Pros: Perfect house!
Cons: Everything perfect!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staying here was a wonderful experience. Every day started with an exceptional breakfast, there was good wi-fi coverage, pool towels were provided (which I have not found at other places of this size), the possibility to use a (sparkling clean) kitchen was great, even if we only used the fridge. The nearest beach was in walking distance (about 1 km away). Great value for the price.
Cons: No complaints whatsoever.

Pros: The best breakfast during our 2 week holiday Tranquil setting & beautiful pool & outdoor space Close to a gorgeous unspoilt beach Useful kitchen for guest use
Cons: Mattresses on the plastic sunloungers would've been welcome Our room & bathroom were tiny Although Booking.com stated that dinner is available, this doesn't apply in summer - so we had to eat out

Quinta do Monteverde - Viana do Castelo - Building
2
9,3 Excellent (103 reviews)
R1 814+
Overview Reviews
Located in Viana do Castelo, Quinta Do Monteverde is within a 15-minute drive of Cabedelo Beach and Esposende Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, multilingual staff, and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The Quinta is set in beautiful gardens with a lovely swimming pool, fountains, and places to relax. Our ‘casa’ was luxurious and had every convenience.
Cons: Absolutely nothing. You’re best to have a car in this area of Portugal but we managed 3 days without one. It’s short bus or taxi to Viana. Breakfast was delicious each morning, although perhaps a slightly earlier start than 9am. But you get into the relaxing swing of things.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great facilities, very peaceful and welcoming.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hostess’s welcome is kind and VERY (too?) detailed, but a tad too directive and overbearing. At times it makes you feel like a little child who needs to be taught house rules. Too much content is imparted upon you, whether you find it useful or need it at all in the first place. The room we had was a “suite” and thus featured a little anteroom with a kitchenette hidden in a large closet. The bedroom itself was nice, spacious and well appointed, although in that category, the bed could have been at least queen size —and wasn’t. The real downside is that there was NO WINDOW! The walk-in door was glass but needed to be curtained against the heat of the blazing afternoon sun (and the passing other guests!), and there was a minuscule vasistas around the walkway to the bathroom, but no window at all in the bedroom itself, which made it cavernous and claustrophobic. The room was not in the main building. Not one free power wall socket in sight! Don’t those hoteliers know that their guests have smartphones, tablets, cameras, portable computers, and all manners of assorted electrical appliances that need regular recharging? I had to unplug a lamp in the anteroom to recharge our things. No air conditioning, except for a very small unit in the bathroom, useless to cool the bedroom. The only appliance available was one of those column-type fans that worked more or less OK, except that it was on a 2-hour timer that forced me to get up several times during the night to get it started again! Unacceptable in that price range. The WiFi worked... until it went down, and couldn’t be restarted until the morning. You must avoid this place if you depend on a fast WiFi connection, for example for work purposes. (Read rest of review below)
Cons: The bathroom was good and in general well provided, but there are no red and blue markings on the taps, so you don’t know which way is hot and you’re kept wondering for quite a while as hot water takes that long to come on... Shower products are in quantities adequate, yet not overly generous, but strangely only shampoo and a strange little plastic bottle labeled “body lotion”... but no obvious shower gel in sight! Had to use an old one taken from previous hotel. Finally, the breakfast is good but nothing to really write home about as the hostess seemed to think: for example, no smoked salmon or other fish, eggs scrambled but not otherwise cooked, etc. AND you cannot have it before 9am, which is again unacceptable for an establishment in that price range: not all guests are on vacation, and even those who are may need to have an early start now and then! One last word to the wise: hotel owners and managers sometimes reply to guest advice and critique, and sometimes quite sharply. Remember then that I have no vested interest in saying good or not so good things about the places I stay at, while owners and managers do have a vested interest in selling you theirs products and services...
9,5 Excellent

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning views, beautiful building and surroundings with a lovely pool area. Excellent stay!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The view of the basilica and surrounding area from our room was incredible. The reception rooms were beautifully decorated in very tasteful colours and style. Had the weather been better there was an outdoor swimming pool.
Cons: The coffee at breakfast was awful. A self service coffee machine would improve things greatly. There was a nasty whiff of cigarette smoke outside the front door. It was drifting over from the area where the staff smoke. A shame as it lets the hotel down.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location at the top of a hill with an amazing view on the coast, the city and the hills. Beautiful, historical building. Great traditional, regional food and wine and excellent breakfast. Super friendly staff at the registration and especially in the restaurant.

Pros: Beautiful location. Nice food though on more expensive side for Portugal.
Cons: Bed quite firm. Our rooms faced car park- ask for church side.
7,5 Good
Pros: Beautiful view, nice breakfast (except coffee)
Cons: Instant coffee at breakfast, slow internet, smelly pipes. Grounds could be much more pleasant if they were better kept.

Pros: The room was spacious with a small sitting area, very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a selection of food to suit most tastes. The location was good for visiting various places. We left the car at the hotel secure car park and travelled by train to Porto and Viana do Castell. The small stion is five minutes walk from the hotel, with very helpful staff.
Cons: You need to let the reception know your approximate time of arrival in order to have the gates open. After the first time you have your own key.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was spotlessly clean. The pool and the tennisarea was nice. Short distance to Viana do Castello.
Cons: It was very hot and the rooms didn't have aircondition. The hotel has a lot of stairs everywhere -inside and out (also to the pool) - but no railings to hold on to, which was a problem for my mother. On the webpage it says that its handicap friendly. This is really not true, eventhough the host was kind to change my parents room to one on the ground floor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet and relaxing 6 nights in the one-bedroom self-catering apartment. Plenty of room for a family of four. We travelled by train (flew to Porto) , the property just 5 mins walk from the station, took a couple of day trips to Praia da Ancora and Viana da Castelo on the cost on spearate day trips, relaxed by the pool the rest of the time. Pool is lovely water-no/low chemicals.

9,5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very central with good private car parking. The staff are lovely. As soon as we arrived, Eduardo came out to the car park and carried most of our luggage into the hotel. He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, as were the rest of the staff. The older lady in the breakfast room was so sweet and kind. The breakfast was very good, with tea/coffee brought to the table. We got the funicular railway up to the cathedral. The views were wonderful plus there was a wedding taking place. The ferry to the beach was quite quick and it was lovely there. There was a good cafe. It was a nice town with lots of good places to eat. The architecture is great and for a seaside town, it is pretty much unspoiled.
Cons: Storage space was a little limited in the hotel but we managed fine. We got ripped off at one restaurant in the town. It was on a street just off the main corniche. It had very distinctive table linen/crockery - all blue and white. We were given a generous plate of "amuses bouche" which we hadn't ordered and they slapped EUR9 on the bill for it. You lives and learns!

Featured amenities include laundry facilities and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
7,5 Good
Pros: It's a very beautiful and quiet setting, the bed is probably one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in.
Cons: The breakfast was good, but small quantity. If you happen to not like one of the items then you'll be hungry. Exzample, 2 very thin slices of cheese per person, one thin slice of ham and 1 small slice of marmalade. If you do'nt like any of these items (I don't like ham) so I was stuck with 2 minute slices of cheese and a tiny bit of marmalade. While we were there the internet did not work at any time, and the tv didn't work either, so it wasn't very possible to just chill out to watch a film in the end of a sightseeing day. We requested if there were some dvds we could watch but the only solution we were given was to hang out on the common room. We had taken a weekend to hang out with each other and chill so it wasn't an option for us. On the last day, there was no electricity in our flat, so we couldn't shower. When checking the lectrical board it became apparent that the wiring was old and it seemed a bit unsafe. None of these things are the end of the world, but for the price they charge, I would expect a little bit more professionalism.

6,8 Good
Pros: Spacious rooms and overall good facilities, most of the staff extremely kind and trying to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Cons: We traveled as a family of 3 (2 adults + 1 toddler) and requested an extra bed beforehand which was confirmed by the hotel. For our surprise the toddler bed had no mattress only a big blanket folded and meant to be used as mattress. Situation was immediately reported to the staff but it took 2 hours to have it solved. On top of this, shift manager did not speak a word of English which made communication almost impossible.
5,5 Okay
Pros: rather nothing
Cons: Restaurant and food. very poor choice of meals, which were fatty and low taste
5,0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was good. Bathroom was spacious with good design. Great mountain view from basically anywhere in the hotel. Breakfast staff was nice.
Cons: Booked a double room but the beds were just 2 singles joined together, wouldn't expect this from a 4 star hotel. The pillows were awful. Staff was very disorganized. Asked to check in early, didn't get an answer and room wasn't ready when we arrived. This was ok because we were travelling by car, but could have been annyoing if we weren't. Then, half an hour after official check in time, we went and they still had no clue if our room was ready or not, so we had to wait more. But the worst part was when we finally were in the room, resting from the trip, we were abruptly interrupted by cleaning staff who had no idea that the room had been cleaned already.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Big room, central location, great breakfast
Cons: Hot water was not working properly
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very comfortable and very quiet at night for a good night sleep.
Cons: I came with my 9 year old and expected a swimming pool with different depths but the swimming pool is just for swimming lengths and is the same depth all the way. No ball games allowed.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were spacious and the staff was very helpful, friendly and professional. The breakfast was quite rich with a big variety and the facilities was quite good with 3 pools ( one of the outside). The architecture was amazing. The dinner and drinks at the bar were quite affordable.
Cons: Beds could be more comfortable. The windows were too dirty outside and the curtains should be cleaned.

9,3 Excellent
Pros: Location and design

Pros: This place is excellent. I stay at this hotel every other year for a few days because of the high quality and the relaxing location. I never had any complains. Staff is professional and nice. Hotel is fantastic and location in front of a quiet beach is amazing. I use the 2 salty water pools and the sauna every time i go there.
Cons: everything is perfect. If I want to be picky I would like to see more variety in the cheeses and cold cuts at breakfast.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location is very good because you are right there by the ocean and there is a path in the back of the hotel where you can go for a relaxing walk. The room with ocean view are spacious although minimalistic in furnishings.
Cons: The rooms need a bit of more furniture or an update in the furnishings.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Stunning view of the Atlantic from the balcony, beautiful & minimal yet warm and welcoming rooms, swimming/steam/sauna facilities good, 20 minute max walk to the station, excellent breakfast selection and friendly breakfast staff. Free cycles to cycle north along the Atlantic coast path was a highlight alongside pilgrim walkers. The hotel, in a revamped area, felt like a local spot versus touristy. Sea pools nearby, and the stunning sandy beach south of Viana was worth a day's stroll along too.

Pros: Our room was spacious and from its balcony we had an uninterrupted view of the sea, just metres away. We arrived late in the day, in time to have drinks on the terrace as the sun went down. Our two rooms were interconnecting which was fun! We were a few minutes drive from the town centre with great seafood restaurants, and a coastal walking path passed in front of the hotel. Breakfast was good.
Cons: This hotel was large and lacked atmosphere. But this was more than compensated by its great location.
5,5 Okay
Pros: View from the room was great
Cons: Pool service was non existing. The pool belongs to the gym. We could not use it sunday afternoon and were kicked out afterwards because we did nor have swimming caps??? The pool in the pic with the view cannot be used by children. Big dissapointment

Pros: The location is very central overall. Very friendly staff. Very clean. Breakfast is simple (no warm dishes) but sufficient. It’s a cute cozy hotel.
Cons: The only downside of the stay was that it’s close to a main street and it can get loud sometimes at night.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is on the river side, few steps from the city centre. We got a warm welcome, and special attention. The breakfast was also really good,
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is very convenient. The owners and all the staff working here were extremely friendly.
Cons: The room we had was small and there is not a lot of space to place anything in the (toiletries) the bathroom. Unluckily it was also very loud at night on the street due to a tapas bar nearby.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location was superb. The room was clean and the bed was big. Crib for the baby was perfect
Cons: Breakfast was too basic, just bread and croissants, bur it is still great value for money.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location. Modern, very clean, renovated style. Lovely staff.
Cons: Missing some comfort details . e.g. the shower head is badly attached and wobbles about, very limited shelving in the bathroom, there is no where to put your toilet bag, air con did not work.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location to walk to all the sights and to restaurants.
Cons: Noisy at night from street sounds. It was a weekend and bars must have been open very late!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: It is all about the host Christine who could not have been more welcoming or helpful. She did everything to make your stay a good one, and was happy to provide recommendations and advice. She made all the difference in our stay in Portugal. Our room was beautiful, and stylish. There was plenty of space. The wardrobe was generous in size.
Cons: The room was stylish, but it was not very practical. For example, we struggled to find places to put things in the bathroom. At first, we were not comfortable in the bed, because being from northern climes, we found the duvet much too warm. Being fair, Christine did manage to get us blankets and by the end of our stay we had it sorted out.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Location and room. Good staff

Pros: Unique experience really. We stayed in the apartment #1 for the family for 4-5 people. It was beyond our expectation - great atmosphere, spacious and very, very comfortable. The adjacent territory of this accommodation is amazing - impressive landscaping, parking insight. This place clearly has historic heritage! If you travel by a car with family, this is the best choice ever - at least it was for us. Very friendly personnel. Lastly - breakfast! Not Sofitel range of choices but everything was delicious and fresh. Great serving of the tables. If we are ever around, we will definitely select this location.

Pros: The shower had hot water (first place we found in Portugal with any). The bed itself was fine bar the noise everytime you turned around. The breakfast was filling and the staff friendly enough. The area is good and you could see the sea from the window.
Cons: The hotel and the rooms are very dated, with bad colours. The bed frame is very noisy. There was a large section of damp above the window. There was a club that started playing loud music after we went to bed that you could hear clearly in the room. The shower room is very dated. There was no free water in the room.
