The private external bathroom comes with a bath, shower and bidet. 10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good an quit location Cosy and very clean. An old charming place. Good bed very good breakfast and friendly host.
Cons: Nothing, although the city is hardly not reachable by walking. You have to use the car.
6,7 Good
Pros: Nice project, however it needs a car to reach it.
Cons: Host rigidity - the refuse of offering a second coffee in Italy is not genuine. The bath (shower) does not have ventilation at all.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and well kept accommodation. Quiet location, nice view to Urbino. Very good breakfast.
Cons: Minor things, otherwise almost perfect! Hosts just speak Italian, fortunately it was not a big problem for us. We asked for an iron for our clothes upon arrival but in that big house there was no iron available. It was a bit strange as it seemed to us we are asking for something absolutely special... Breakfast was - especially compared to Italian standards - very good (tasty ham and cheese, etc.) but as we stayed 3 nights it was every morning exactly the same. No eggs (although they are selling own eggs), no vegetables, no fruits.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing.

7,1 Good
Cons: I stayed at this hotel twice before in 2015 & 2016. Things that I loved at this accommodation are no longer offered: beakfast in the past offered greater variety...ham, cheese, breakfast rolls & fresh fruit, which is essential for those of us who are prediabetic or diabetic. Simone explained that sweet cakes are the traditional breakfast served in Italy. Sitting outside for breakfast was also no longer offered, which I truly missed. I couldn't help think that these changes were more about creating less work for the person in charge and cutting costs. Sad to see because it had an impact.. The noise level from the next door bar/restaurant made sleeping difficult. You were lucky if you fell asleep before 1am. Lastly, I was told I was unable to store small items in the fridge, something I greatly appreciated in the past, especially given the high temperatures. Ultimately, my experience was very disappointing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: My room was located two flights of safe stairs up in another building a few steps away from main reception. The bedroom and bathroom were compact, pleasantly decorated and very clean. I loved the view from the little balcony (outdoor table and two chairs provided). Breakfast choices were a variety of sweet cakes, bread roll with butter/jam/Nutella and good coffee. Pleasant staff.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location and lovely room. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Loved it. A special place and special town.
10,0 Excellent

Cons: Location was excellent and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating - highly recommended!!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Although the room was small we had a lovely balcony to our room. Great location and value for money in a tourist town. Friendly and vibrant host who didn’t mind us asking for an early breakfast- the cakes seemed homemade and were delicious.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The location, the room, the amenities, actually everything
Cons: The place is amazing, once a monastery and today an impressive hotel, with all the required services and more...!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Massive comfortable beds, huge property full of interesting corners, great sun area. Staff pleasant and helpful. Surrounding area is stunning. An excellent base to see Umbria.
Cons: Lighting was a bit dim and we did have great difficulty in obtaining a device to charge our phones. The staff did everything possible, but even then it was quite limited.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We love how peaceful and quiet the hotel is. The rooms are cool although a little dark. We love the food there which is very high quality.
Cons: When we booked for dinner we weren't asked if we wanted to eat outside and so when we went to dinner and wanted to eat outside it seemed to be a bit of an issue for them. We did eventually get an outside table but we felt a bit annoyed about being kept waiting while they phoned reception to discuss it.

Pros: It was just the most glorious hotel. I wish I could have stayed longer
Cons: N/A!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast in their historic dining room with an amazing view Dinner in the very atmospheric courtyard under the stars A very special visit to chiesa di Caprignone organised by the hotel. An arduous walk there and back but so worthwhile to see the incredible frescoes with Valentina to guide us.
3,0 Mediocre
Cons: This was one of the biggest rip-offs I’ve ever experienced in Europe. The building is old and has history, yes, but that is no excuse for old and tattered linens with questionable cleanliness, a bed as hard as a rock, hideous mauve-colored paint, and an overall lack of warmth and hospitality. There wasn’t even a shower, just a hose. It was hard to fall asleep in this creepy, bizarre, and uncomfortable place. I do not recommend at. all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The setting of the castle in the Umbria countryside was magnificent. Our room was delightful and dinner superb.
Cons: Difficult to fault this hotel
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great Great Great experience, would love to go back again. Highly recommend
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The castle is a charming boutique hotel of great elegance and antiquity. The beauty of its location and its panoramic vistas are breathtaking. The owner and his staff have achieved the epitome of hospitality. A short stay and evening meal will remain any visitor as a wonderful memory for many years.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, beautiful setting, clean and comfortable room, lovely meals.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A spectacular castle to spend a night or two. So much history it was amazing. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to make our stay special. The rooms were beautiful and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. Was a highlight of our time in Italy.
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast, similar to other nice places we've stayed in Italy. Good service. The location is unique, because it is a real medieval 'castle', located at the top of a hill (to protect from approaching enemies!). Therefore, it's not very close to town, or anything else, and takes some driving skill to reach it. But once there, the vistas are amazing, and the grounds are lovely. I loved the history of the castle, as told to us by the very pleasant and helpful concierge/desk person as she gave us a quick tour on arrival. We ate dinner in the restaurant twice. Great atmosphere, good service, elegant food (it was truffle season!).
Cons: The bathroom in our room was large, sleek, and very modern-looking. However, the shower stall was badly designed. It looked great, but had not a single shelf or rack to place soap, shampoo etc. on while showering. Also, the glass door didn't seal properly, so water spilled out onto the bathroom floor. A minor problem: medieval windows, with iron bars across, but no screens - meant that when we opened the window to let fresh air in, we also let moths, etc. in. The price of medieval architecture, I guess! And the views from the windows were spectacular!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location is great and is very well taken care of. The choice of breakfast is great. Also really liked that you could buy the wines and other products that are made at the resort.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Urbino Resort comfortably exceeded our expectations and we would very happily return. We particularly enjoyed the wine tour of the estate.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect! A peacefull place!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location on a wine estate near Urbino, accessed via a long private road, so secluded and quiet. Beautifully landscaped grounds and vineyards right up to the door. Well appointed rooms in a series of buildings so short walk was needed to get to excellent breakfast or the swimming pool or the spa. Pool area was well used, good sized pool and sufficient loungers for most people. Our room was contemporary and sparsely furnished - there was plenty of room for one or two comfortable chairs, but only a giant pouffe to sit on. No pictures on the walls. Good storage/wardrobe/dressing area, air conditioning extremely effective. Large bathroom with huge oval bath - no separate shower, hard to stand up in the bath to use the shower - loads of hot water. On-site restaurant was in fact 1km walk through the vineyard - it was excellent with friendly, efficient staff and set beside a lake, so really pretty - worth the walk but a bit of a surprise that it was so far from the rooms.
Cons: No chairs in the bedroom - plenty of room for two armchairs which would have added to the comfort. Guests were encouraged to walk the 1km through the vineyard to the beautiful restaurant - a stunning stroll, well lit for the return in the dark; however a complimentary golf buggy service (or similar) to ferry people in the rain, especially older guests, would have been good. We drove the car one evening during a particularly heavy thunderstorm - we would have been drenched otherwise.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The landscape, peacefulness, the space- you never feel crowded.
Cons: No bathroom ventilation, only the bedroom had insect net at the Window, the other Doors didn’t have. The stone floor was allways dirty of dust-you can feel it on your feet.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful resort, nicely restored
Cons: A bit far from nice places

Pros: View and location. Also very clean.
Cons: Hard beds.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: A great place in an amazing location. The facilities were very good and the breakfast was great (with an astonishing view!). A great place for a weekend of relaxation, a romantic travel, or just for a trip to visit Urbino.
9,2 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast can be improved
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful breakfast room overlooking the valley and good selection of breakfast items (including an excellent cappuccino - hand made!)
Cons: Use of the swimming pool should be included in the room reservation; we shouldn't have to pay for spa services to use the pool.
7,5 Good
Pros: The location was great! Although on the longer side we walked to and from Urbino. The place was v clean. I suggest getting a room w a terrace as the views are amazing. Staff v friendly. The breakfast was ok. There were a lot of cakes and sweet pastries, but if u wanted something savory very limited. The wellness center did not appear to b manned that often. Every time I went down no one was there. Looked well appointed and I was keen to have a massage but I was not able to fine someone to talk to. When I went to the reception to ask my Italian is v limited and the man behind the desk had no English at that particular time, so we found it hard to communicate abt the wellness center. The place was charming, easy to park and spectacular views.
Cons: The breakfast could have more savory items such as eggs.

Overview Reviews

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast, well located with pleasant staff. A superb value as the rooms are quite clean and comfortable.
Cons: There isn't parking close altho it would have been a lot easier except the road was closed. If you can't do stairs would recommend.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Value was great and breakfast fine. Helpful staff and an elevator.
Cons: A little hard to find and parking could be issue for some but once there all is good and then the rest of wall city is walkable if you can walk.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Located right behind the Ducal Palace, just a few steps from the back entrance, it is so close, it might as well be part of the palace complex. You can walk virtually to everything worth seeing in this city. Stayed here for 2 nights in a twin room and was pleasantly surprised to discover that you can take the lift from Borgo Mercatale up to Corso Garibaldi and walk just a few steps to the hotel – we had earlier schlepped uphill on Via Mazzini with our luggage! Maybe the lift access should be emphasized in the hotel description or an advanced message to guests would be handy. Our room was on the 4th floor and it was quite spacious and airy with high ceilings and huge windows (what a treat to look out towards the Fortezza Albornoz on the hill across). Strong and reliable wifi signal in our room. Beds were a little hard and the pillows thin, but we slept well anyway. Breakfast downstairs was fine – usual continental spread of pastries, bread, ham, cheeses and boiled egg. The lovely serving staff made good cappuccinos to order. Overall, probably the best hotel to stay in Urbino, for its location and value alone. I’d stay here again.
Cons: Very basic bathroom amenities though, just wall-mounted soaps for the sink, shower and bidet. No shower caps, vanity kits, tissues etc.- every hotel we’ve been in had them. And the wall-mounted soap dispensers were almost empty! For such a well-positioned hotel, I wish they tried a little bit harder in this area.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and informative staff, very clean rooms and a more than adequate breakfast. The best thing though is the location, great views from our rooms, close to all the major sights and best of all, only a short walk from the public car park lift at the base of town. Urbino is a beautiful hilltop town with restricted car access, you park either above or below the Centro Historico section, so this hotels location makes arriving a breeze.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: After getting used to just brioches, pastries or wrapped biscotti for breakfast in Italy, it was a great surprise to have a good selection of cereals, salume, breads, juices, fruits, and EGGs(!!!) for breakfast.
Cons: The bathroom was a little cramped.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. Well appointed room. Helpful staff advising on parking in the immense public lot, which used to be the Ducal parade ground just below the old town.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent.
Cons: Nothing

6,3 Good
Pros: Location was great, the on-site restaurant was amazing with all products locally sourced and staff was really friendly.
Cons: Facilities need serious updating. The staff was difficult to get hold of as always been called away and I felt like I was left waiting around for them or needing to go in search of. The swimming pool was open for public use and not just for the guests. And it was mandatory to wear a swimming cap (not a fan!)
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location. Amazing views! Great breakfast...
Cons: N/A
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place with excellent view.
4,2 Okay
Pros: We were here some years ago and we loved it! Now this place are in a decay and Mr Giuseppe and his wife doesn' seem to care any more!?
Cons: Breakfast was not at all as it used to be! Frankly it would have been better if they stopped serving it! We payed 110 Euro/night and for that price one deserves a much better breakfast!!
4,7 Okay
Pros: Clean rooms, panoramic view, internet in the rooms
Cons: Faro Rosso isn't actually a hotel. It's a well-known rural domain, especially for the locals who drive in en out all the time. The photo's you see are not realistic. For example the swimming pool isn't a hotelpool, but a club where all the locals (especially youngsters - schoolkids) visit the public pool (entrance 5 euro) jump in the water all the time with a lot of noise. Forget the tranquility of the nature... . At the reception they don't know nothing about hiking and cycling, although they mention this in their brochure. As hotelguests we had dinner in the restaurant, but had to pay 6 euro for the "bread & coperto" ! As a external visitor, OK, but as hotelguests ?? Faro Rosso is a complex where hotelguests are not priority to the staff
6,7 Good
Pros: quiet location beautiful views over Gubbio plenty of scope for walking in countryside and able to visit places of interest by car on relatively quiet roads
Cons: was not a problem for us but may have been for families no mention when booking that swimming pool was being renovated so was closed ? when will reopen
6,3 Good
Pros: Wonderful location, good food.
Cons: Accommodation area entrance and stairwell a bit bleak. Bedroom smelt strongly of bleach.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent. Breakfast was good.
Cons: difficult to get to with a car.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Location in the historic center, quiet and safe, friendly staff, delicious breakfast.
Cons: Not really a dislike but a suggestion: It would be nice if there is always at least 2 staffers during breakfast. It gets to be very busy for just 1 person to manage all the guests.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Decent breakfast. Pleasant staff. Nice location in heart of old town. Stylishly furnished in room.
Cons: The room was cold. The shower cubicle was tiny. The room was smsll.
7,1 Good
Pros: Central location in the historic district close to sights with public parking nearby. Reasonably priced with very ample breakfast included. Elevator.
Cons: Because the hotel is in the historic district it is necessary to park in a public lot; I was aware of this so I emailed the hotel the day before to advise that we would be arriving at noon to drop off luggage before parking and inquired if that would be ok. We were told yes. We arrived at noon on the dot; the hotel was locked with a note on the door to call a number that rang busy constantly and the other number on my booking confirmation did not work either. We left, found the public parking, parked the car, went to lunch, kept trying the numbers, no response. At 1:45 we returned. There was another guest, an Italian, also trying to call; we both finally left. At 2:30 we returned, the door was open and there was someone at reception who said there had been an electrical problem and that the phones did not work...if that was the case why not have a person there to deal with clients in person? We did not feel the reception staff was at all accomodating- it was as if we were a nuisance, a bother. Not at all apologetic about inconveniencing us. I had requested a room with a bath tub when booking and received a confirmation but upon check in only a shower was available. The room was ok, the bedroom was small, not really a superior double in furnishings/decor although it did have a small entry room with sofa bed which we did not need. On the positive side the room was neat and clean and had a view of the church.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good. The English speaking of the staff was limited, but adequate for a non American tourist town. The location was fantastic, inside the city wall, next to a church,a d with parking right outside the door. There was no personality as it was just a hotel, but clean modern and good staff.
7,9 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good. Parking was a nightmare!!!!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect. Packaged gluten free foods were available for breakfast Friendly staff
Cons: No car access to drop off luggage Staff not on duty at night Breakfast only average— many choices but none outstanding

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location - perfect. Right on main square by the museum. We had suit with terrace and the view was absolutely spectacular! Good breakfast in the cafe downstairs, excellent customer service. Dinner in Taverna Del Lupo was a delight and hotel made our reservations .
Cons: The only parking options are public lots around the city that do get full pretty quickly. If you lucky and get a spot by the funiculare - it is a short walk. But still drive up and unload your bags and take a taxi ($10) back to parking after checkout. They will give you very good and detailed instructions on how to find them
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Charming antique-filled hotel; wonderful room with terrace and fantastic view; excellent location for walking the town.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Terrace beside the room was a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the view.
Cons: Nothing ... although I have to admit my gps initially took me on a bit of a wild goose chase. I’ll blame the GPS or my lack of attention, but it was tricky.
8,5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is simple, but what can compare with eating it outside in the ducal piazza! The staff were really lovely especially when they learned it was my birthday. As always it was fascinating to stay in this quirky warren of a building in such an atmospheric & historic town. I paid for a room with a view and the view was spectacular, especially at sunset & sunrise. However I know that the cheaper rooms are also comfortable and with unique charm.
Cons: There's a few stretches of stairs with no correspending lifts ... but always staff on hand to get luggage up. The parking is a little awkward, but the use of the public car park by the funicular works well enough. I always get lost trying to get back to the hotel from the parking, but again, a cheerful porter walked my luggage all the way there. These are small prices to pay for the unique & charming situation, but the older & infirm might wish to think carefully and check first with the hotel. It is an old building; that is part of its appeal.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Being able to step out the front door and onto the central square was very convenient and a pleasant surprise. Everything was within walking distance, restaurants, shops, supermarket, etc. We also loved that there was a bar just inside the front doors of this hotel for an afternoon espresso with a sweet treat or a nightcap and a savory bite. There was a note when we were researching this hotel that made us aware that we could drive up to the front door, unload our suitcases but then have to park our car a few blocks away. We didn't need our car at all during our stay but anyone that might be doing day trips, could find this inconvenient. Be prepared to carry your suitcases up a flight of stairs to the reception area and then an elevator is accessible from there. Breakfasts were amazing with lots of choices to suit everyone's tastes. The breakfast rooms were so beautiful with art and artifacts on the surrounding walls. Our bedroom was filled with lovely antique furniture, (as was the rest of the hotel), lots of closet space, mini fridge and safe. There are sitting rooms and gorgeous terraces with spectacular views on every floor. The staff always had smiles on their faces whenever we asked for their assistance. A smile goes a long way ! We highly recommend staying here !
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, very friendly staff, nice rooms
10,0 Excellent
Pros: place to be
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is quirky in layout with delightful surprises (such as beautiful restful gardens at different levels) in an ancient palace annex and built up a steep hill. The staff ensure there is no problem with baggage up the first stairs to the lifts. The location is in the historic centre, accessible by car, with the parking lot a few hundred metres away after dropping off luggage (which the staff ensures is in your room when you return). The view is magnificent – over the ancient city of Gubbio and the whole valley. Breakfast is fantastic and a delightful light meals with local produce (prosciutto, cheeses, fruits and vegetables) are served at any time inside, or outside in the old square opposite. Wonderful recommendations for nearby restaurants are given (the Lupo is a standout). A great base to explore the fascinating town, its history and current local creative jewelers, ceramicists and artists.
Cons: There were no negatives!

Pros: Very central, stuff nice. Very good breakfast and very flexible with the time for check in and for breakfast. Really, would recommend.
Cons: All good
9,4 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location and attentive staff
Cons: Limited air con and WiFi coverage
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel San Marco is not a 5-star hotel. It is, however, very clean, comfortable, friendly, well located, perfect for our needs, and a bargain (price compared to all the pluses). There was no in-room mini bar or coffee/Nespresso maker in the room, but the breakfast (cold-cuts, fruit, yogurt, granola, breads, croissants, coffee & cappuccino) was quite nice and in a beautiful breakfast room (see the pictures on the hotel Web site). Do with a little less in the room (how much time do you spend in your hotel room (other than sleeping & showering, etc.) in Italy? Hotel San Marco is located right across the street from (actually, the hotel is part of) the most beautiful medieval town in Italy. We recommend it highly.
Cons: Parking was a bit iffy. We were fortunate that we always found a free spot at the very nearby gas station around the corner (tho' we once had to drive around the block because there were no spots, but when we drove by again, one had opened up), but I'm not sure where we would have parked had we not.

Pros: The breakfast was very good. I had a lot of variety and fresh baked goods, not the prepackaged ones.
Cons: The floor was not very clean. Had a lot of dirt on my socks after walking around. The rest was very clean though. I had to pay extra 5€ for parking my bicycle in the garage. Besides my bike, the garage was compeletely empty and I would expect this to be free of charge for bicycles anyways
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Walking distance from centre, great location.
Cons: You will need to find your own parking.

7,1 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: Several things did not work: bathroom door would not close properly, AC in one of the rooms did not work, no hot water in the shower, shower would not work well.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, beautiful air conditioned room, centrally located, free parking and the best restaurant Boscone Garden behind the hotel overlooking the valley with extraordinary food. Also across the street is a fabulous lunch place run by father who hunts and gathers TRUFFLES and his daughter serves the beautiful meals-- it is called Locanda del Tartufo. Highly recommended.
Cons: All went according to plan
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Room was small but comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Gubbio is a very interesting and a beautiful city.
Cons: Room was a bit small and with no view.
6,7 Good
Pros: The location is great right in the upper city center of Gubbio.
Cons: The room was in badly need of renewal. Everything just gave a feeling of 'old', the bathtub had scrapes, no window in the bathroom and the aspirator was missing. After all not a 4 stars experience. Breakfast was just average.

5,4 Okay
Pros: Position and parking possibilities
Cons: Rooms are not cosy with tasteless bathrooms
7,0 Good
Pros: Superb location. Room very confortable.
Cons: Shower not so friendly for old people Little supply in the minibar
9,2 Excellent
Cons: Would have liked a more comfortable beds and more comfortable pillows. Also better shower facilities
7,9 Good
Pros: Great location very central
Cons: Couldn’t get the shower to work. The hotel was very impersonal with no nice communal space or friendly bar. It felt cold and lacking atmosphere was perfectly functional and comfortable but I wouldn’t stay again.
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: The only positive about this hotel is that the Ducal Palace/Museum is literally across the street. And of course Urbino is lovely.
Cons: Not a 4-star hotel in service or facilities. Public areas and room (especially room) were shabby and broken-down. (We actually made a list of the things broken in the room.) Reception was understaffed and disorganized. Afternoon receptionist was plain rude in response to a simple request. No bar (only a service window open during breakfast for coffee, etc.) and the restaurant was closed. We were allowed to check in (along with other people staying longer than 1 night like us) WITHOUT BEING TOLD the boiler had broken down earlier and that there was no central heating and no hot water. We were given a 20% discount on the bill at checkout, though we would have preferred that the hotel had lived up to its rating. Area around the hotel deserted in the evening. To rate this as a 4-star hotel makes a mockery of the rating system.
4,0 Okay
Pros: Location is right across from the palazzo museum. Parking in the gated courtyard right on the premise
Cons: The rooms are outdated and has not changed since we stayed there 10 years ago. This is in no way 4 star hotel - very basic. They has an issue with the boiler and there was no hot water. Since it broke on Fri before weekend - the eta to fix was on Monday. We stayed for only one night but I do not know the rest of folks survived for three days with no hot water. Staff was apologetic and all, but not a 4 star service you would expect.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The only thing this hotel has going for it is a perfect location.
Cons: This is not a four-star hotel. The whole building is tired and shabby. The bathrooms, furniture, and common spaces are poorly lit and are long past needing a renovation. The staff is grumpy at best.

Pros: The location is great and is very well taken care of. The choice of breakfast is great. Also really liked that you could buy the wines and other products that are made at the resort.

Pros: Urbino Resort comfortably exceeded our expectations and we would very happily return. We particularly enjoyed the wine tour of the estate.
