Nice lively bar downstairs which serves excellent food (awesome roast dinners) and a good choice of drinks. Breakfast was pretty special as well. English breakfast is cooked to order rather than buffet style. The rooms are distinctive and full of character. The beds are comfy and the shower was really nice. All for a decent price.
The wi-fi wasn't the best (good enough for SD but not HD streaming) and the TV absolutely had a mind of its own. Although it didn't affect me personally, the stairs to my room were difficult to negotiate, the bathroom has an awkward layout and is next to a busy road without double glazing (presumably a listed building). Therefore it might be worth calling ahead if you are an especially light sleeper or someone with mobility problems. Also not the most convenient location if you drive as the nearest parking is a 5-10 minute walk away and is oversubscribed. Place is still worth it if you can get a space though!
The coffee machine and home made biscuits were delicious. Nice touch to have a fridge with water in .
Friendly staff, central position, good food, large rooms, comfortable bed. Great place to stay but.....
We were not informed that central heating in the bedroom was not working. Whilst 2 small electric heaters were supplied in the bedroom ( already there on our arrival )this meant the bathroom was always cold. Poor WiFi connection in the room and TV connection very poor and intermitent. Neither of the 2 tv remote controls worked. None of these things spoilt our stay however an acknowledgement or warning of these issues would have lessened our irritation.
Very comfortable. Jem was very pleasant and helpful.
