The hotel was cute - very traditional and just at the foot of the castle
As it is at the foot of the castle it is a hike up a very steep hill. In October all transport stops around 5.30 to the castle so had to do this on foot with a suitcase as arrived from the UK after this time. The restaurant closes at 6:00pm and there are no facilities for residents after this time.
Staff not friendly or helpful.
The included breakfast was meh - but the other meals we had there (the ones we paid) were tasty. At night when the castle was closed and the pedestrian foot traffic was gone it was silent and beautiful. You are a 5 min walk from the castle.
The king size bed in our room didn't have top or bottom sheets on it (there was just a terry cloth cover), and the bed was broken on the one side so the mattress sagged on the side my husband slept on. There is no staff on at night, so if you have an issue there isn't resolution until the next day. It's really hard to get up to the hotel during the day because the road is covered with pedestrians walking up to the castle. That was nerve wracking.
You were given a pass for a small discount on the castle tours
First you have to find it. Good luck because the lady turned us around and wouldn’t let us drive up the hill to the restaurant at first. You are driving through large crowds of people as well while trying to do this so that is stressful as well. When we got there there was no check in desk. You check in with a waitress. As it says there are no private restrooms. It’s like you are in a college dorm. Our rooms walls were paper thin and we could hear everything from the other people near our rooms. The location is not as convenient as you would think anyways. You have to go down to the bottom of the hill for the second castle and you have to go down there to get tickets. The restaurant closes as 6 which means ALL staff leaves at 6. There is no hotel staff. It is just a rented room. So no dinner at the restaurant late and as you are so far away you can’t walk to anything. Just stay somewhere else in fussen is my recommendation.
Can drive up close to the castle.
The staffs can be nicer.
