Friendly reception and safe place for our bikes
Good value . Parking at rear for my motorcycle. Helpful friendly staff. Basic room clean bathroom. Good for an overnight stop.
I don't enjoy publishing an overall poor review because all the staff I met, which included bar & cooking staff, the manager / proprietor, and a cleaner, were very pleasant and friendly people. The food was also good, and the cafe/restaurant/bar had a pleasant atmosphere.
The entire stay was dominated, for me, by the vile and extremely strange toilet in the room! I've never encountered anything quite like it in my (possibly sheltered?) life. For a start, the toilet was the first thing encountered upon entering the hotel room from the corridor - there it was, right in front of me (well, slightly to my left to be completely accurate), along with the rest of the bathroom ( a sink and a shower). The bedroom was the room beyond. This peculiar toilet was like nothing I've ever seen and I hope I never have to see another. I have stayed at eco-communes in deserts with absolutely no running water and where the toilet facilities were nothing more than a seat over a pit, but they were better than this. THIS consisted of a toilet bowl with some kind of weird electrical-mechanical macerating contraption which is presumably intended to mince what ends up in it into fine enough particles to be disappeared down the small diameter waste pipe. It did no such thing, and I had to spend 20 minutes at least, prodding and poking and re-flushing and checking, then prodding & poking again, and repeatedly re-flushing, before I felt able to leave the thing for the Hotel's cleaning staff. I will not create unnecessary or unpleasant work for cleaners, because I respect the work they do and I regard them as very important members of any hotel's staff. So, I usually aim to leave hotel rooms at least as clean as I found them. In this case, I found this impossible, but not for want of trying. Finding a clump of bushes in a park or piece of waste ground would have been preferable to the Hotel's facilities. I would never stay there again, nor recommend anyone I know to stay there, unless I knew for certain that that disgusting device had been replaced with a normal equivalent. None of the above should be interpreted as reflecting negatively on any of the staff, who were without exception very pleasant and helpful.
Beware: online the hotel is called "L'Escale de la Gare", but the sign outside says "Hotel d'Ecuyer". And number on the door "14" is so small you must be right next to it to see it. "14 Ave David d'Angers"
It was nice and clean, but a long climb up to the second floor, the room had a view from the rear of the building out to the country side
