We liked that our room (Jean's room) had very good light from several large windows facing south and west. It did indeed have a king size bed. The water pressure in the shower was excellent. We liked having a small TV to watch in the evenings, as well as a dresser and armoire to hang clothes. Breakfast was delicious and the wifi signal strength was good.
Oof, we were disappointed in several things at this B&B. First, the location: Unless you love walking this hotel is just a bit too far from the main strip to be convenient - 15 minutes to the top of the shops. Next, checking in: Our welcome was at first most unwelcome, as though we arrived at 11pm (although we were well within the check-in period) and felt very rushed. Third, the atmosphere: The common areas lacked charm compared to other B&Bs we've stayed at for a similar price as well as other B&Bs in Santa Barbara - especially in the second house, where we stayed, which feels a bit "second class" compared to the main house where breakfast is served. We found the bathroom very small, clearly retrofitted into an old closet, with an awkward sink on a raised platform in the room. I was shocked at seeing such high reviews for the Cheshire Cat Inn upon arrival as it seemed to have so much potential but not quite the care and thought that beautiful historic homes of Santa Barbara would deserve.
We were 10 days here,We booked a room but they were so kind to offer a little Cottage for use with much more space because We stayed for longer time than usually the Guests. Every morning the breakfast was lovely, they make every morning something warm, and some option with cold Buffet.PS: the French Toast, what they did,was the best we ever had,it was so delecious, luckily we could have twice in this 2 weeks. In the Afternoon's or let's say evening's between 5 pm and 6 pm They make some lovely Wine Tasting with some Canapès some Cheese and some tasty sour cream dipp with some veggies, with a nice atmosphere in the Dining Room. Staff were really kind,we met with a lot of them, almost every morning an other Lady, but they were all kind and really Helpful with the Santa-Barbara activities. Thank s a lot for everything We would go back anytime from Europe. Sara & Mihaly
That we stayed only 10 days :)
We loved the breakfast included each morning. We were offered something different each morning and there was certainly plenty of variety of things to choose to eat. The location was great for us as it was just on the edge of the downtown area which we liked. It was a bit of a distance from the beach but we don't mind a good walk. We did have a car but chose to walk everywhere. There was also plenty of good restaurants to choose from which were within walking distance. The happy hour each afternoon between 5-6pm with wine and canapes was a nice little treat too and found it very pleasant having this out in the beautiful gardens.
Charming, quiet. Nice spread of cheese and wine.
Didn’t like the French toast bake. Was hoping for quiche or something warm and cooked. It was more a continental breakfast and not a gourmet breakfast as I had hoped.
There was a man smoking in front of the unit in the day time, night, and evenings. I'm not sure if he was also visiting or lived in the cottages or houses next to our cottage. Unfortunately for this, we couldn't leave our windows open to enjoy the beautiful weather while we stayed there.
