Beautiful historic hotel. Very nice wine and cheese event offered complimentary every evening between 7 and 8 pm. Multiple lovely areas offered to sit and nice outdoor patio also, where were lucky to observe a wedding and a joyful funeral at the church below.
The room was smaller than it appears in the pictures. It appeared that we had a small balcony in the picture or at least a window that opened, but we did not. We went to breakfast at the restaurant and the waiter never came back to check on us. My husband liked his but my blueberry pancakes tasted like they came from an aunt Jemima box. For an expensive meal I was quite disappointed. I did receive a refund on mine though.
Lovely staff. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. We arrived at a terrible time of 4 am expecting to have to sit in the lobby for a few hours but no they gave us our lovely room immediately so we were able to have a nap before starting our day of sightseeing. Everything wAs just great.
I think we could only book for 2 consecutive night stays so we had to stay one night elsewhere. Such a shame as we’d rather have stay here.
A beautiful peaceful pleasant hotel with an amazing history in central old San Juan. The staff is plentiful and uniformly well trained.
My only issue was the internet service was inconsistent. Sometimes you had to reconnect or had to find a different server.
Since the moment of the check in the staff were friendly and professional. Since it was our honeymoon, they give us a bottle of Spanish cava courtesy of the hotel. Thanx for making us feel special! The staff and service it's just perfect. I also like the free wine and cheese from happy hour. The property it's very clean clean and well located in old San Juan. It just a historical building and gorgeous hotel.
The bed it's quite uncomfortable... they should improve the bedding.
Had some cigarette smoke coming into room through the vents I assume for some time. Very uncomfortable. Also, didn't appreciate the women yelling and protesting outside the hotel. We realize there's little control over that.
Once a convent for 252 years, today Hotel El Convento is a European-style, romantic boutique hotel in the medieval, charming city of Old San Juan. It’s considered the neighborhood’s top upscale hotel filled with history presented thought Spanish antique treasures and modern amenities. This hotel is made for romance, yet business travelers and families find plenty here to love.
Old San Juan is a 500-year-old historic district within Puerto Rico’s sprawling capital. History buffs often visit just for the surrounding of history itself. Hotel El Convento is located on the picturesque Cristo Street and near the city’s second oldest park, Plaza of the Nuns, and the second oldest cathedral in the Americas, San Huan Cathedral. Guests are within walking distance to San Cristobal Fortress, Pablo Casals Museum, Galeria Nacional, and San Felipe del Morro Fortress. While located near key historical sites in Old San Juan, the hotel lacks in proximity to the beach.
El Convento's prime location is walking distance to many restaurants and bars within Old San Juan, but the boutique property offers three restaurants and bars on-site that often draw guests, locals, and tourists staying elsewhere. Two restaurants offer a very romantic setting and menu, as does the bar where large candles flicker. The third restaurant is casual and offers pizza, pasta, and craft beer. The outdoor terrace features a plunge pool and hot tub with gorgeous views, plus La Veranda Terrace includes daily wine, cheese, and crackers. For guests having to work, the lounge, library, and business center provide all necessary components. Meeting spaces, salons, a fitness center, and a beloved herb garden are also on-site.
Hotel El Convento is a destination unto itself with grand accommodations, unique historical atmosphere, and a romantic ambiance everyone falls in love with.
