Great location, in the old town
Small basic room
Outstanding value for money. Five-star location, historic building opposite beautiful church, and a tastefully decorated room with nice en suite.
Location is excellent. The place is a "hostal", but in fact I got a single room for just below 30 €. Consider the location: you go downstairs, walk 10 steps, and you are in the main spot of Salamanca. It is amazing they are able to offer such convenient rates, given where the place is located. Breakfast was included in my case (so I had some coffee and whatever was on tap). Private access 24/7 via magnetic badge --- which allowed me to tour the city at night and come back at leisure. Air conditioning was very good and had a comfortable stay despite the hot spell.
Car park? The property is on a no-stop zone. Police is always there issuing tickets. You have to keep going with your engine on. So I found it difficult to unload my car, book in at the property, and then move my vehicle to one of the "nearby" car parks. I am more uneasy with booking.com rather than the host. Although such property is in the city centre, it showed up when I searched accommodation with parking. So I set my search engine in order to find a property with a car park. If you browse the Hostal's page, you will see "parking" listed in green as "most popular facility". So I assumed parking was on site. It turned out parking is not on site. If you read the fine prints, the property itself does not have a parking lot. They simply send you to one of the many private multilevel car-parks around town. Parking "nearby" is thus misleading: is 500 m nearby? What about 1 km? It all depends on which car park has free spots for you. I found one at 700 m and paid 16 € for one day. Meh. Why did I get my own car park, if the property could have arranged it for me? Fact is, the property is in a no-stop zone, so you cannot even stop to ask what you would better do. In the end, I arrange my parking myself and then went to the property. Because there was no other solution. Such issue is common to many properties in Portugal and Spain: they are listed as "properties with parking facilities", but, in fact, they do not have parking at all. At best, they send you to a private car-park nearby.
It was right in the centre of the town within walking distance of all the main attractions.
Quite difficult to find and it was not easy to park nearby but such inconveniences were worth putting up with for the benefit f its central location.
With a stay at Hostal Plaza Mayor, you'll be centrally located in Salamanca, steps from Plaza Mayor and La Malhablada. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request), and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
