Santo Stefano Home & Breakfast - Polignano a Mare - Bedroom
1
9,1 Excellent (294 reviews)
R1 775+
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Santo Stefano Home & Breakfast in Polignano a Mare, you'll be near the beach, within a 10-minute walk of Statue of Domenico Modugno and Grotta Ardito Promenade. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Santo Stefano is not accessible by car so we arrived by rickshaw (hotel sorted car parking which was useful). Breakfast with a view from a roof top terrace. Hotel is in a great location and very central to the town and main square.
7,9 Good
Pros: The roof terrace for breakfast had lovely views.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A unique experience in an unusual setting. Wonderful view from the rooftop terrace and staff could not have been more helpful.
Cons: We certainly struggled with the stairs up to the breakfast room and terrace but then we are 70 and 77!! Well worth the effort and they do say exercise is good for you.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, charm of the building and area
Cons: Steep slippery steps... and LOTS of them. Almost fell a couple of times, especially when the stairwell light wasn’t on (it doesn’t come in automatically). Also, wi-Fi didn’t work most of the time unless you went outside. Even the. It was spotty.
7,5 Good
Pros: The location was great and the roof top views were amazing.
Cons: The room was small for the money and the AC basically didn’t work. It was so hot in the room with no air movement.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, breakfast, views
Cons: Nothing
7,1 Good
Pros: Location was really good, the room was very clean and functional (albeit a bit small). Staff were very friendly and helpful (after initial difficulties checking in).
Cons: It was a bit overpriced for the size of the room we had. Even though the staff were super friendly and helpful once we had checked-in, checking in was a bit of an issue. The hotel closes between 11:30 and 15:00 which means that there is no one at reception and even though I told them we'd be arriving at 14:00 on the phone they did not inform me of this. It made the start a little difficult in the heat and after a long journey from London.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived at about 8.00pm on a Sunday nite - the old town is not accessible by car - we contacted the property, they came to meet us with a rickshaw, showed us to the car park & took us to the property. Amazing!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful experience. The owner was helpful and provided excellent restaurant recommendations. The breakfasts were amazing. We will definitely return.
Cons: WiFi was a bit spotty but that is to be expected in an old building with lots of stone.
7,5 Good
Pros: Perfect location and lovely host. Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: We booked a room for 3 people. The third bed was just a roll out. Very uncomfortable. Nothing we could do about that. But for the money we paid, I would expect a proper bed.
San Tommaso - Polignano a Mare - Building

With a stay at San Tommaso in Polignano a Mare, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Statue of Domenico Modugno and Lama Monachile Beach. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and an elevator. Guests may use a train station pick-up service for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: All
Cons: Nothing, everything was good!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely historic villa with beautiful grounds and gardens. Bedrooms had interesting arched stone ceilings. Good breakfast served in a room also with a vaulted stone ceiling. Great to sit in the historic courtyard in the ev linings enjoying a nice cocktail to soak up the atmosphere.
Cons: They have wedding parties every day but this did not disturb us as it was interesting to observe the Italian style of the different wedding parties. We stayed 3 days and thourougly enjoyed our stay. Also the fact that the hotel is situated 2 KM outside the town is a advantage as parking in the town is a nightmare.
4,5 Okay
Cons: San Tommaso needs to make a decision if they want hotel guests or if they want the facility to be a wedding venue only. If you’re not part of the wedding party this is a noisy place to stay. The facility literally has a wedding every day with loud music and the noise carries throughout the facility Don’t stay here if you want to go to sleep before 23.00 pm The facility is nice. Rooms are not that great. Bathroom is less than satisfactory. Sink drain does not work. Bathtub drain does not work. Shower door does not adequately close and the water goes throughout the entire floor creating a safety issue.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is delicious! The hotel is so lovely and the staff is very helpful. Would stay there again hands down!
Cons: We didn’t realize the location was outside of Polignano, so we had to take a taxi to and from the hotel. But that was only a small deterrent and the hotel itself was impeccable!
6,7 Good
Pros: Easy parking, close to Polignano and beautiful grounds.
Cons: We did not know it was primarily a wedding venue. It was noisy, beds were not comfortable and we felt we were in the was of the wedding preparations.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Spotlessly clean. Easy trip into Polignano by tuk tuk just 2 miles and only €7. Cheaper than taxi’s. The reception staff were very helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We were also very grateful that our late checkout was granted.
Cons: No bar or restaurant available for hotel guests. It’s mainly a wedding venue, with rooms for other hotel guests if available. When there is a wedding there is no separate area for hotel guests, you have to go out or stay in your room, otherwise you are intruding on the bride & grooms special wedding day. A separate small courtyard area wld be a good idea for hotel guests to relax. Breakfast was just ok.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wow - we loved it here... loved the castle, loved the people, loved the owners and got to meet them, loved the staff, enjoyed staying there just so beautiful, close to centre and got tuc tucs which they ordered, all staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was fantastic (not that they had to to much - it was all perfect) Of all the chateaus in France and places we stayed this was up there as one of our very favourites. Breakfast was just so amazing - huge with so many choices and a banquet every morning and all silver service. Love, love, loved it here.
Cons: Only thing it would have been nice to have a pool or if it did we didnt see it but gardens and fountains really beautiful.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful place with great service and room. Very good breakfast. Location a little off the old town Polignano a mare but can reach it easily with a rental car.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful Hotel. Stayed there just for one night to go to Grotta Palazzese restaurant and we enjoyed out stay.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The setting was to die for, room was fabulous, however the light in the bathroom suddenly stopped working and the water was cold, not sure if it was linked. We didn’t report this as it was late evening before we discovered it. Although we did report it when leaving.
Cons: There is no bar, and no evening meal available as it is on the main a wedding venue. However we got transport into Town which is delightful.;;
7,9 Good
Pros: Hotel is located in a nice Villa surrounded by a beautiful small park. The hotel is actually rather an event/wedding venue that is also offering some rooms. We only stayed one night there and a large wedding party was going on. However there was no noise disturbance in our room. Room was very nice, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was ok as well. Only the staff at reception and restaurant were not very friendly and you did not feel very welcomed here unfortunately. To reach the center of Polignano a car is required.
Cons: Unfriendly staff

Pros: The property was clean and in a amazing position. Much bigger than expected and the staff was super nice. They did check on us and called while travelling giving us indications on how to find them. Really friendly and cozy environment . My son loved it!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely loved our stay in the executive suit. The most amazing place I have ever stayed in my life. Amazing view, amazing room, amazing staff. Don’t think twice just book it. Beautiful town to explore with private parking not too far away.
Cons: It was perfect, wished I could have stayed longer.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. Right in the old town and just by the viewing point. Bars and restaurants are virtually at doorsteps. We enjoyed people watching and great vibe at Mojito Bar around the corner. 2 bedrooms with sea view terrace is stylishly well appointed and very spacious. Breakfast at the sea view cafe is lovely. There is the office you can pop in and communication via whatsup is great. Would recommend to friends and family.
Cons: Nil.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We absolutely loved our stay here at the Serafini Suite!! The accommodation had so much charm.... beautiful stone walls, ceramic interior details, Mediterranean floor tiles, a jacuzzi on the top floor and also a relaxing terrace - what more can you ask for! Extremely clean & very presentable. Thank you to Angelo for such a warm welcome & always looking after us. We would love to come back and stay again! Amazing!
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Executive Suite was like a dream. Views of the breath taking Adriatic, balcony right off the cliffs, staircase down to the cliffs and a personal private CAVE!!!. Breakfast on the balcony was first class food service and taste. Loved every minute of it.
Cons: None
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect! Right in the old town, east to get to and easy to find whenever we needed to go back. Central to everything.
Cons: We couldn’t figure out how to get the hot tub upstairs to work. We turned the heat up and checked that it was actually heating up which it was - then when we went to go in later that night it was cold again.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the room , cleanliness , friendless of staff , loved the breakfast staff as well . Perfect !!!
Cons: Loved everything !!!

Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and multilingual staff. 7,9 Good
Pros: People from the hotel are very nice, helped with parking, rooms are spacious and ours had two bathrooms. Location is perfect! Breakfast very simple but good.
Cons: Air conditioning was not working properly in one bedroom nor the living room, and it was June, very hot. They should have it checked before guests arrive.
6,3 Good
Pros: Room itself was comfortable w/ good shower.
Cons: We bought a "budget" room, and I'm guessing for that reason was given a room in an "annex" location -- away from the other rooms and what I thought was promised -- a shared view of the harbor. While the room was fine, there was only a tiny 1x1 window (opening onto a noisy sidewalk), and it felt like a cave. Made for a very disappointing stay, as I expected from the description to have access to, minimally, a shared view.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and large. The location is excellent. Breakfast had a lot of choice and was excellent.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The room with the church view was spacious, the other rooms also nice size. The bed was very comfortable, breakfast was very good. Francesca is a wonderful hostess and her brother was also very nice when we called to change the dates. The location is great for touring the old city. We parked 3 days for 6 euros in a parking lot 10 minutes walk from the b&b. Lecce is so beautiful.
Cons: The quality of the coffee at breakfast wasn't great. One little inconvenience is the transparency of the bathroom door.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Locations, facilities, access, parking, service and property look
Cons: Breakfast is a little limited, no warm breakfast.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation was perfectly located in the historic centre of Polignano and it was easily walk able to the beach and restaurants. We originally booked the cave room (which looked lovely) but were offered a different room with a balcony instead due to a cancellation, which we accepted. Both rooms were very clean and modernly decorated and furnished. The shower was great! We also liked the option to cook/make coffee in the room although we only used the kettle. Staff were very helpful and stayed open past office hours to allow us to check in.
Cons: Nothing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, lovely decor, very clean
Cons: Parking charge is too high
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Quirky little B&B in a fantastic location with excellent staff. Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Nothing, possibly stairs at front of B&B may not make it accessible for some people.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very good location. Very friendly & helpful staff. Quiet& restful at night. Lovely terrace.
Cons: I felt the mattress needed to be replaced as it sagged at the edge.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the old quarter and minutes walk from bars, restaurants and the local small rocky beach. Our room was on the first floor of this old characterful building with a pretty terrace overlooking the main street. There is another entrance/exit down to the old quarter. Polignare a Mare is the birthplace of Domenico Modugno of 'Volare' fame; an Italian classic. There's a beautiful bronze statue of him near the Centro. Staff were really helpful and suggested good restaurants and a great beach- Cala San Antonio. 50 euros a day for sand, 2 loungers and an umbrella. We were 20 feet from the sea which was warm and shallow for 50 meters out. Again loud music from the neighbouring beach club was a bit off-putting but nothing we could do about it! There's a bar for gelati or pizza, salad etc - Caffe crema was amazing! The bar opposite Antico Mondo on the town side is a piece of history. Bar Mario Campanella serves fab gelati, breakfast, prosseco, beer, coffee at very reasonable prices. We loved it. The staff arranged for us to park in a local car park as no parking near the property. It was only 5 minutes walk and they arrange a rickshaw type shuttle service for luggage transfers. 45 euros for 3 days.
Cons: It was a bit noisy. The bar downstairs played thumping bass tracks which was a bit annoying. Didn't go on late and didn't stop me from sleeping but it got to my husband. The mattress was too soft for me and after 3 nights my back was aching.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Everything was fine the breakfast the comfort of the bad also the shower and room was great and clean. The staff is really gorgeous and helpful (thanx again). Good terrace on 2nd floor.
Cons: The room was a bit tiny compared to a huge bed. Closet could be a bit bigger there's not enough space for two persons. Parking lot a bit far from the facility but bearable.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, the room was small, but all the great facilities you need ! Big terrace to use almost exclusively! 2 mins from all bars and restaurants! Great for couples!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Marianna was a very good host, always helpful and attentive. The location is excellent you can walk around the city.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality was fabulous, lovely and clean, excellent location.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location couldn’t be better. Lots of restaurants & cafe bars around & beach a few minutes walk away. Staff are lovely & so helpful
Cons: The stairs are steep & getting the luggage up is hard work. Not suitable for people with mobility issues
7,5 Good
Pros: Marinella at front desk was lovely! She gave us fantastic recommendations, not only in Polignano a Mare, but also of restaurants and bars across the surrounding region. Location was great - a very short walk from the old town. Room was clean.
Cons: The room was very small and it didn't help that the bed was large, round & awkward, taking up a lot of space in the room. A normal double bed would create more space in the room. Fine if you're travelling solo, but not enough room for two people and luggage. The decor and fittings were modern "kitsch".
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean. Great location. Excellent budget accommodation. Friendly and helpful staff. Real value for money.
Cons: Room was small but we expected this and up 2 flights of stairs
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful Rooms were clean Amazing location Good facilities Great parking option off site
Cons: Bathroom was quite small and a little tired Beds were very firm

7,0 Good
Pros: The view from the breakfast balcony was fantastic the
Cons: The sea view promise was misleading it had a slit window in corridor which meant you could not really see the sea view. Did not realise there was not a balcony on all rooms. I’m not sure whetherbalcony rooms are available on booking.com
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The host was really friendly . Lovely comfy bed . Beautiful views from the terrace , lovely area to sit and eat breakfast. Fantastic location , just a couple of minutes walk to the historical centre.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great room with access to terrace which was an upgrade. Views over the sea were lovely. Very close to the small beach and the old town. Local recommendations for restaurants were appreciated. Enjoyed our stay.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We liked everything about the room and the location of the hotel . We had a room with a view of the Sea which was spectacular . The staff was very friendly and helpful and arranged for some tours . Overall we are very happy.
Cons: What was served for breakfast was good but I would’ve loved something hot. It was a continental breakfast and that should be specifically indicated when booking .
7,1 Good
Pros: Great view of the sea from our room and bfast deck
Cons: Bed was rock hard and uncomfortable, also very little extra toches, sofa in room was worse for wear
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved this place. Stayed for 5 nights. They gave us the top floor room that had access through a glass door to the sun deck where breakfast was served with a view over the sea. Room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good - usual pastries, cakes, cheeses, meats refills on espresso. Staff were great Alessio and his cousin were welcoming. Alessio even provided us a room at the last minute when I realized I had erred on the booking date arrival. Great stay!
Cons: Only thing to mention was they are closed for lunch/reposo until 3:30 pm. We arrived before that so had to wait. Plan to arrive after that time.
6,3 Good
Pros: Location and view
Cons: Walks in a rooms are dirty needs repainting
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked this b&b because it is on the less crowded side of the bridge, so I always found a very close parking spot. Check in was very easy and everything was thoroughly explained to me. My room was clean, the bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in while in Italy. Everything was great about this place and this town! Thank you.
Cons: If you are a light sleeper bring earplugs. The walls, like all in Italy, are very thin! But this is not a complaint about this hotel, because it's true of every place I've stayed in Italy! Just giving you a suggestion
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice breakfast
6,7 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, balcony sea-view room and location. Recommended.
Cons: As usual Italian breakfast does not appeal to other national tastes; would it kill them to provide some basic breakfast cereals. Cake at breakfast, save it for afternoon tea! Limited choice for common dietary intolerances.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good and I liked having breakfast on the terrace.
Cons: Our room was small and needs refurbishment. The hair dryer needs to be changed. It was powerless!

7,9 Good
Pros: The receptionist at the check out. Cannot recall her name but she was really kind and helpful.
Cons: The room was old and worn out, also it was not a 4 people room they just put two single beds in the corridor right next to the door of the flat and called it 4 people room.
7,1 Good
Pros: Staff and food are the highlights. Everything fresh and delicious. Location was also good, but you need a car to move around visiting other cities like Bari, Matera, Alberobello, etc.
Cons: Advertising said it was a kids friendly hotel, but there was only a playground available. They were preparing the hotel for the high season and even the kids room on the basement was closed and opened the last day we were there. Playground was painted in the meantime and our kids could not use it for two days.
7,1 Good
Pros: Good buffet food. Friendly staff.
Cons: Its a bit like a holiday camp and the bed was not comfortable.
7,9 Good
Pros: Very peaceful and quite, food was nice and staff where great.
Cons: Not all the facilities were available from what was advertised, 2 swimming pools closed due to it being out of season, which was no mentioned when booking, no access to swim in the ocean, wifi signal was rubbish inside the room. Transfers were not available when requested. Sauna area could be open later and earlier.
6,3 Good
Cons: The restaurant too big and with pretty poor quality for a 4 stars hotel
7,1 Good
Cons: Canteen style dinning & food. Not the real Italy.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The food was amazing, and very considerate towards my gluten allergy. Plus there were rabbits all over the resort, which was adorable.
Cons: The majority of the staff were amazing, however a few waiters let them down. We were two 26 year old girls travelling and some male waiters would not leave us alone, pinched our cheeks, leering, despite us showing no interest (and them old enough to be our fathers).
8,8 Excellent
Pros: A huge variety of goof quay food.
Cons: Shortage of staff who spoke English
7,1 Good
Pros: Great activities kids on resort awesome
Cons: Resort ok food good poor parking lot unless u upgrade your room they are small not enough room with 3 luggage

Cons: Nothing
9,6 Excellent
Cons: Beautiful property with stunning views, courtesy bus into town was great
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff, firnedly, kind and efficient. The hotel is gorgeous, the room is beautiful and the bed VERY comfortable! Which is rare because usually hotel beds are too soft for me. This bed is ideal! Also, the breakfast is delicious. Amazing scenery, you feel like you are in a movie!
Cons: The wi-fi in the room was really weak, intermitent. It was very difficult to browse online. Also, the shower doesn't have enough draining so the bathroom can get flooded.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The pool and surrounding grounds were very beautiful
Cons: Getting food at this hotel was very difficult; the hotel restaurant opens at 730 and the menu at the pool is very limited and actually ordering food was problematic. We weren’t able to order anything hot and y salad never came. The food at the restaurant is fine dining and very small portions. Our shower completely overflowed and they did clean it up but a request for coffee pods for our machine never came. The AC doesn’t seem to work very well. Breakfast was abundant but the hot station wasn’t open at 730. I’d say at one point this was a 5 star hotel but not any longer.
7,9 Good
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Parking lot. External pool with no heating so could not be used.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Staff is extremely kind, helpful and nice. Hotel is gorgeous, delicious food and very comfortable room and facilities.
Cons: The wi fi signal is extremely bad, a hotel with this wuality should improve that.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel with lovely pool area. When we were there it was lovely and quiet so plenty of choice about where to lie by the pool. Staff very friendly and helpful including booking a table at a restaurant for us. Smart restaurant but we also ate from the room service menu in the bar one evening while watching Seria A! Lovely breakfast on the roof terrace.
Cons: More casual eating options would have been nice.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: A very quiet tranquil location which is great. Breakfast was great, dinner too. Very good beds.
Cons: It proved difficult to find the hotel - car navigation was of no use. Bathroom looked a little tired and in need of patching up (new paintjob). Smoke alarm on the ceiling in bedroom was flashing all night, another system would be preferable since this was disturbing sleep.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: This was the last placed we stay in Italy on our honeymoon and were so happy to see a chef at breakfast making omelettes. Was so nice to have something freshly prepared that wasn't ham and cheese! The hotel is gorgeous, the pool is lovely and all the staff were very attentive and welcoming. The hotel also runs a free shuttle bus into Polignano a Mare so I would definitely recommend organizing this for your evening meals, as we were disappointed with the evening restaurant food in the hotel.
Cons: The restaurant is overpriced and the portions are small and bland. We were really disappointed and should have just gone into Polignano and spent half the money on something better. We are real foodie's and the restaurant seemed very posh - wait staff all in suits and very attentive, impeccable manners etc. When you see the menu you will see the options are limited and very fussy, like a high end restaurant. Unfortunately the quality doesn't match that and the prices are really high. We only ate here as we didn't want to drive into town but didn't think about the free shuttle bus. I would definitely recommend doing this and not eating in their restaurant. Breakfast and lunch by the pool were great - just not the evening dining in their restaurant. Another issue we had was our room was right next to the restaurant. This wasn't a problem for us as they told us service stopped at 10pm but on our last night there was a big group still in there until 11:45pm and we could hear everything (talking, laughing, chairs moving, etc). We would not normally complain but we had to be up early for our flight and needed to get some sleep, but we had to complain 3 times before they did anything. The staff at reception the next day told us if it's before midnight they can't ask people to be quiet and made excuses for the restaurant being open late so we were not impressed - especially after how much we had paid to stay.

Pros: So much charm and great location. Cinzia was very nice and took pride in her place. Left baked goods and coffee for breakfast.
Cons: Historic part of town so building old and cavelike. Bathroom very clean but mold issue. Not bad mold issue but I have allergies so more sensitive to it.

Pros: The location of the property was absolutely perfect - a couple of minutes walk away from the bars/restaurants! The room itself was idyllic. Very cute, cosy and well equipped with everything that you needed for your stay. The facilities were also good. The host met us, a very lovely lady who showed us around the property and made it very easy to contact her via Watsapp! The added touch of meeting he owner and knowing you can contact them at any time really makes you feel more at home. Overall we had a fantastic stay and if you want a very pretty and traditional BnB close to the centre of Polignano, you must stay here!
Cons: The parking was a little difficult at first (not the properties fault at all - just the car park around the corner wasn't signposted very well and it wasn't clear which space that you could park In! If you can travel here without a car I would recommend that, as the roads are very narrow and difficult to drive on. Our host was so helpful when we got there though and she asked us where we had paid and she told us to move quick as we would get a ticket! She came with us and found us a space, which was very helpful of her.

4,6 Okay
Pros: Position and hilarious staff. Step aside John Cleese and Manuel!
Cons: Paid for balcony but blind collapsed on it so we couldn’t use it.. but still had to pay extra for a balcony. Shower so tiny you can’t fit anyone except a small child in it. Also leaks everywhere flooding the bathroom. Wi-fi pathetic.. why do they bother? Overrun by your groups so no breakfast left by 8 am... get in early and fight off the competition... unless you just want to eat cake... actually fantastic selection of cakes! Very noisy hotel.. constant clanging and banging staff... They proudly display a rating of 8.5! Who stayed there and give it that rating???!!! Your bus tourists...
