Pros: Amazing staff and they even surprised me with a birthday cake and sang at breakfast! The team looked after our bags while we on the Inca Trail and when we got back they had our bags ready in our room along with a Pisco Sour. The bed was comfy and the hot tub was also great.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel was great. On a quiet one way street, but only a short walk from restaurants, and bars. The hotel itself is beautiful and typically Peruvian. The gardens were lovely with many water features. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of options. The bathroom too was great with a bath and separate shower. Wifi too was very good. We found all of the staff to be extremely helpful.
Cons: Nothing really, we were over all delighted with our choice of hotel. My only slight criticism would be that the check out is very early, they are happy to store your bags, so it wasn't too bad.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, breakfast,
Cons: Tea making facilities not always topped up. Night porter on our last morning was rude and unhelpful. Room 12 decor too modern given the age of the property but that is my personal opinion
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property itself, the way this XVII century building has been renovated, the attention of the personnel, the amenities, the pisco sour teaching course... the spa... the breakfast, ..., everything !!!!

Pros: The only thing better than the facilities was the service of every member of the personnel.
Cons: Everything great.

Pros: Trio of women traveling the Inka trail; lovely room with outstanding beds. Service was outstanding, to include hotel arranging for a clinic visit for one of us with an injury. Bar was good, breakfast was excellent. Spa also used, to include massage service.
7,9 Good
Pros: Great historical property with excellent location.
Cons: Everting was good
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Upgraded to beautiful suite. Everywhere was walkable. Bathrooms offered outlets with your choice of voltage. The breakfast accommodated late and early risers. The property itself was worth wandering and exploring.
Cons: I wish I had received an email about the tour offerings before I arrived so that I could have planned my days with those in mind.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel is a gem, it’s beautiful has this historical touch, actually I think you can make a mini tour about the hotel and the antiques. The buffet was really delicious, you have loads of variety
Cons: The room was small, and we have a problem with the shower as the water went out and made a little mess, apart from that was perfect!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is very unique and beautiful. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good. I really enjoyed the ambien during the breakfast - beautiful pan flute music and a very lovely baby alpaca in the courtyard :-). Highly recommend.
Cons: none
7,9 Good
Pros: Very beautiful space with much history. Extremely good bedding and pillows, shower pressure was fabulous. Very nice breakfast buffet although service for tea and eggs was mediocre.
Cons: Our deluxe suite was facing a busy street and our bed was literally shaking from traffic on the street. I actually believed we were experiencing earthquakes until I realized the shaking had to do with the acceleration of buses on street.
6,8 Good
Pros: Location, view
Cons: At checkin, Roger sat us down and energetically told us our room was not ready (we were early) and suggested we upgrade. I said no, so he asked me if we "really wanted" the room we had reserved. I explained we were tired from the long trip and asked if he could watch our bags and we would return later. He persisted in excitedly selling the upgrade. At checkout, no one could explain why I was charged 40 dollars more than what was listed on the bill. (The visa receipt did not match the folio) Of course it was the 10 percent charge at checkout that does appear in the booking email. These games were surprising at an spg hotel. .Everyone Was very nice while they created a sense of confusion that (of course) costs the traveler money. (I am sure worse for those who speak no spanish).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent customer service
8,5 Excellent
Pros: Attentive staff like I've never seen before. Taking care of every need and going above and beyond to make you happy.
Cons: The hotel is a little old and could probably use a face lift.
Belmond Hotel Monasterio - Cusco - Building
3
9,5 Excellent (952 reviews)
R5 595+
Overview Reviews
Belmond Hotel Monasterio is centrally located in Cuzco, only a two block walk from the Plaza de Armas, Cuzco’s central square where the cathedral and most important museums are located. The hotel’s history as a former monastery makes its inner courtyard a quiet haven from the city outside. Its central location provides an ideal base from which to discover Cuzco and the ancient ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Pisac and several other archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. Machu Picchu can be reached via a spectacular three-hour train journey from Cuzco. Belmond Hotel Monasterio is only a ten-minute drive from Cuzco airport. Originally built as a Monastery in 1592 on Inca foundations - the historic attributes of Belmond Hotel Monasterio provide a unique blend of historical architecture and artwork - including a beautiful chapel adorned with extraordinary gold ornaments. The hotel combines the solemnity of a colonial monastery with the luxury, elegance, comfort and excellent quality of a modern five-star hotel. The original architecture and design has not been significantly altered and thus the rooms do reflect their origins as a home for Jesuit seminarians. There are no two rooms alike and they all vary in size and format. Facilities and services include world-class international and local cuisine served in two restaurants, fully-equipped business center with cabled and wireless broadband internet access, meeting rooms and banqueting facilities, accessible rooms, boutiques, 24-hour concierge and room service and a unique bath butler service to revitalize after a long day amidst candles and fragrant bath oils and salts. Luxurious accommodations include 106 guest rooms and 20 suites. Décor and furnishings combine the best of modern and traditional Spanish colonnial style. Many rooms and suites feature charming views of the city or the colourful rooftops of Cuzco. The hotel is the only hotel in Cuzco that has counteracted altitude sickness symptoms by introducing an oxygen supplementation system in most of the rooms. All rooms include full buffet breakfast and are equipped with all marble bathrooms with double wash basins, wireless Internet access and every modern amenity one would expect in a luxury hotel.

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breaktast (included) was very good. Restaurant was clean and servers attentive.
Cons: The shower door did not prevent water from leaking out into the bathroom. We didn't think to ask for additional towels in advance - they would have come in handly for getting excess water off the floor. Not fault of the property or reflection on it but visitors should be very vigilant in the area especially at night. My friend and I were approached on several occassions by individuals offering to sell us ililcit drugs and people aggressivley begging for money. This, of course, can happen any where - just pay attention to surroundings in /around the tourist Squares.

Cons: Our room did not have good WiFi coverage.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is great, location , room, bathroom , staff and breakfast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Out of all the 5-star hotels I've visited, this was definitely the most comfortable and luxurious! Since I was sick for a few days, I really wanted a room I would enjoy, so I asked for a room with a nice view. Unfortunately, the classic buildings in Cusco are built to face an inner courtyard, so unless you book a suite, you'll have a window facing a hallwal. Luckily for us, there was an upgrade available and we got it free of charge. This room was gorgeous with a super high ceiling. Really impeccable. The rest of the hotel is beautiful enough to take a stroll through, just like a museum (they even offer an audio tour). We were also very well taken care of, as we got our very own vegan breakfast spread served at our table!
Cons: No netflix in the room. Instead, you get DirectTV which is annoying to manage.

The hotel is just 10 minutes by car from the four most important ruins in the Cusco area, as well as the White Christ statue. The bohemian and hip neighborhood of San Blas is a 10 minute walk away, and the hotel is only minutes by foot from both the Plaza de Armas, where Cusco’s Cathedral and most important museums are located. Mentioned a birthday celebration in my initial communication with the hotel, and my daughter was surprised with a beautifully decorated plate of birthday cake on the day. Pros: Breakfast was really good. Location was excellent.
Cons: Bed was too soft.
5,1 Okay
Pros: Nothing... The staff told us that they don’t have rooms available becuase some problems they had in part of one of the floors.
Cons: The room they offered to us wasn’t good as the room we booked. We didn’t get any message prior to arrival and we saw at least 2 people checking in while we were waiting for the taxi to go to the other hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very clean. The bathrooms were newly remodeled and very very nice.
Cons: The internet worked sporadically in our room but always worked in the lobby area.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was a pleasure to stay at this hotel in Cuzco for a few nights. The hotel is in a beautiful building, the staff are excellent, the room was very comfortable and the breakfast the best we’ve had in two months of travelling in South America. Fantastic location too, highly recommended!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Its ok for the price, good location, average food for breakfast and few options, bar cocktails and bar tender is less than what you spect for a known hotel chain. But again price-value was good. They gave us a dish with small desserts when we arrived and pisco sour.
Cons: The shower had a good pressure but sometimes the temperature changed for a few seconds
9,6 Excellent
Pros: It was very beautiful building. An old heritage property very well maintained. Staffs were very friendly. Breakfast spread was good with both local and international options. Location is very central, few minutes from the plaza mayor

Pros: The location is convenient. The room was clean and well kept. The breakfast in the courtyard was pleasant. The lobby staff was helpful.
Cons: The interior rooms are stuffy and have no flow through ventilation. If you open the one window to the courtyard the noise from talking is amplified by the acoustics making it difficult to sleep.
6,3 Good
Pros: We took a suit and it was nice not more than that, breakfast was good and the patio was very nice , good location. Yet for the money paid I could have received much more in other hotels in Cusco and the staff were very unprofessional.

Pros: This was an adorable boutique hotel with the friendliest staff! Our room was nice and comfy. The eating area was in the center of the hotel with a glass ceiling. On the second day at breakfast there was a local lady selling her wares with a real baby alpaca! We had breakfast one day and dinner one night and it was very tasty. Another great thing for us was that they happily kept our bags while we hiked the Inca Trail and came back for one final night before departing.
Cons: I can't really think of anything bad other than I wish we could have stayed longer!
7,5 Good
Pros: Fantastic staff, good location, large room, excellent breakfast
Cons: Room was bright very early, water was often warm at best and wifi was very poor in our room. For a room that is over $200 per night these should be much better
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: -
Cons: It’s my second stay here and just found out I’ve let on the bed a bancnote of 200 soles. Called them to ask about. They said they did not find anything. Extremely disappointed. Moreover the Wifi is poor in the room + made a mistake on my breakfast I had to pay extra because out of schedule. But despite their mistake, I had to pay it !
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Staff was so nice to us. They even provided free airport transfer at the end of our stay:) breakfast is AMAZING!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The service was just exceptional. The hotel went beyond : When we went early for a rainbow mountain tour, the hotel packed us an early meal box so that we could have it in the bus. Furthermore, the lady in the middle who sells alpaca goods in the morning is actually very reasonably priced, wat better than the market. Most people don't talk to her because they think she's expensive but it's totally worth buying from her. She also allows you to touch the baby alpaca for free as well. Definitely worth talking to her.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property has amazing customer service and go beyond. For example, the property gave us boxed breakfasts when we went out earlier to catch for the rainbow mountain t

Pros: The dining room in the courtyard is beautiful...but if it’s raining some of the ceiling leaks. The large bathtub in the mini-suite.
Cons: The bed wasn’t very comfortable.

Pros: Friendly staff, clean room, location is within walking distance to stores, tourist sites and restaurants. We checked out early and they were nice enough to prepare a bag for breakfast.
Cons: It was only because I had heavy luggage that it made it harder for me to walk up the stairs.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is amazing it was an oasis for us. We had the most amazing room and the place is beautiful with a great terrace on the roof with an awesome view. It is quite at night. The staff at this hotel are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is every a problem for them they went over and above for us. The receptionists were so friendly. The breakfast was amazing lots of fruit fresh juices and good eggs. Francisco our breakfast chef was so friendly and a delight to see in the morning he always had breakfast perfectly prepared and anything we needed he made sure we had. He was super friendly and even gave us some advice on things to see. We truly would stay here anytime again.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Clean room and bathroom. Good dinner made by the host. Location is better than Cuzco if you want to climb rainbow mountain.
Cons: The (twin) room had no private bathroom. This is not very clear when you book, make sure to double check if you want this. Wifi was weak.

Pros: Amazing staff- when I told them we were leaving early in the morning (2:30am) before their buffet breakfast they OFFERED to leave pack lunches for us at the front desk so we'd have it for our trip. When we woke up the next morning for our trip the front desk guy gave us our lunches as they promised at 2:30am. They went above and beyond my expectations for customer service. Great Location - RIGHT next to the Plaza De Armas in Cusco, and next to some great restaurants Beautiful Room - our room had two levels and was very elegant looking inside. The bed was comfortable, tv worked great, and the bathroom was really nice
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like about this hotel!

7,1 Good
Pros: Great location, close to Plaza de Armas.
Cons: Hotel is next to a couple of discotheques which could bring undesired noises at night. Also, they seem to be understaffed in the kitchen. The same person Sets up tables, prepares eggs and coffee at breakfast and has to monitor when anything is running out. It clearly created gaps where there was either unprepared tables or lack of food and beverages
7,0 Good
Pros: The bathroom was my favorite part.
5,0 Okay
Pros: the hotel overall is ok
Cons: Extremely loud location due to the proximity to the square
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, incredible people, nice rooms, nice amenities (breakfast, laundry).
Cons: Stairs.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, excellent breakfast.
Cons: Staff needed more customer service skills but polite.
6,0 Good
Pros: The property is well located, near Plaza del Armas and with a gorgeous view over the city rooftops and surrounding hills. Coca tea was always available in the lobby, along with wi-fi. Staff was friendly and breakfast was hearty. Beds were super comfortable and the shower was nice and hot.
Cons: The main problem is that the property is surrounded by two nightclubs, that went until 2AM one night and 4AM the next night. Now, I am a sound sleeper usually, and the noise of the music was so loud that I found it impossible to sleep. So be warned.... if you're an extremely sound sleeper or if you yourself want to be out at the clubs and then pass out in a comfy bed or if you bring your own earplugs and don't mind the vibrations then this is a great hotel! If not... sleep elsewhere.
7,0 Good
Pros: The hotel is in a good location, nearby the main square.
Cons: The hotel entrance is in a small hill (hard for old people to walk, due to the altitude). Also, I expected a bit more luxurious place for the price. No food service at the hotel (but there are many options nearby).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very Awesome They went all out to help me with Taxis and recomendations.

Pros: location , breakfast, service
Cons: Very noisy street, traffic... people were talking and fighting all night
7,1 Good
Pros: The location is the best, easy access to everything.
Cons: The bathroom is quite small.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location and the view from the room. Make sure you go to the roof garden for an amazing view of the city. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Cons: The restaurant bathroom had no toilet paper. There is a lot of street/traffic noise. It didn’t bother me because of my noise cancellation headphones. I probably got sick from drinking the tea in the restaurant. I was very careful to not drink the water. I think they heat up tap water and don’t boil it long enough to kill germs. Every American I talked to had contracted Montezuma’s Revenge. (2 of the photos added below were by mistake, I can’t delete them—the shopping cart and blue door)
7,9 Good
Pros: This hotel is in an AMAZING location! Super central to everything. Really enjoyed the beautiful terrace overlooking the Plaza de Armas. We were there during the Christmas Eve market, so it was quite busy, but provided great access to the market for browsing and shopping.
Cons: Albeit the great things (location*, terrace, views, etc) there were a few things that wouldn’t have us coming back. First of all, the location is great, BUT, there are many other locations that would prove to be better in neighborhoods (san blas, or just even the other side of the Plaza). Also, the rooms on the right side of the building are SO NOISY. The street outside is where all the taxi’s are and that comes with BEEPING NON STOP ALL NIGHT. If you are a light sleeper, be advised, you will have a tough time. Moreover, during Christmas, they were shooting off fireworks until 3am in the morning. Rough night of sleep to say the least.

Pros: Beautiful old building in the Cusco historic center within walking distance of most points of interest. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms had big beds and generous ceiling height.
Cons: Some services offered by the hotel (room service meals, laundry, massage etc.) were overpriced by local standards which meant we did not use them much.

Pros: The location is perfect. Near historical center, shops, and several good restaurants. The staff is outstanding from front desk, waiters, to housekeeping. Breakfast varied everyday and was scrumptious.
Cons: The facility needs a little updating.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Really enjoyed my stay here. I stayed at a Novotel in Egypt and this was very similar. Good size room, really amazing staff. They could use some upgrades but it's the charm of Cusco. Very centrally located. Beautiful interior
Cons: The breakfast was good - not great. If you come down late, a lot of it is gone. That said, there are really amazing restaurants in the area for breakfast, also. This is the only criticism.

Pros: We loved the lobby and historic charm, wonderful breakfast, great location where you can walk to everything and delicious restaurants near by. The rooms were large, comfy and beautiful. Overall I would stay here again and recommend the hotel.
Cons: They don't have dual temperature control so without AC we were very uncomfortable while sleeping. We opened our window and it does get chilly at night but we were at ground level facing an alley way therefore no breeze. We requested a fan which helped but it was loud.
