Pros: Beautiful property Nice pool area Good gym Great spa Very good breakfast Friendly staff
Cons: The bed was too soft, no pillow menu Rooms need an update Food was ok but in a Hotel like this you expect better Wines were overpriced
8,8 Excellent
Cons: They did not offer information about their services
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional stay at a unique property. Staff were wonderful and everything felt special.
Cons: It's difficult to explore the area by public transport from the property, and cars booked via the resort are expensive. Regua is the closest station and a 10 minute drive €12. Best to hire a car if staying a few days here.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding service, went above and beyond. Spa was great as well and the facilities are top notch.
Cons: We didn’t luck out with weather but that is out of their control! An outdoor hot tub is the only thing missing here.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: staff were excellent; breakfasts excellent; wonderful spa and treatments; comfortable bar area
Cons: storage in room was average; we has a free wine tasting but sadly some of the others at the tasting were rude and talked over the staff member; telephone etiquette at the outdoor pool should be enforced
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting over the Douro River ... felt like we were in a private villa - timeless!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hotel, incredibly helpful and friendly staff
Cons: Its expensive ... but you do get what you pay for.

Pros: Staff
Cons: Everything was excellent. Can't wait to go back...
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Loved the peaceful environment, great facilities and top class staff. We had a great stay.
Cons: BBQ but management dealt with it very well.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect and the hotel's infra is incredible. Everything you would expect on a Six Senses hotel in terms of environment and activities offered. The décor has more to an American luxury chain such as like Four Seasons rather than the local Quintas', but that is the price you pay for the comfort offered, after all, the place is huge! Concierge on arrival was very efficient and promptly arranged the specific visits to local wine producers we requested, as well as transportation. Another positive point was the private wine tasting and explanation provided by Mario from the wine cellar. He surely knows his bottles! The wine cellar's variety is excellent and allows you to access the best available in the the region, which sort of mitigates the considerable price mark-up. Food is just ok, not outstanding. Our overall experience was within our expectations.
Cons: Service. It isn't exactly bad, but tends to be slow and confusing. Unfortunately, this seems to be a major problem in Portugal when it comes to luxury services. Examples: breakfast "table arranging" system is confusing and you struggle to get your hot beverages without having to order 2-3 times. In addition, the guy entitled to operate the eggs (at an open bar in the middle of the main restaurant, which makes some heavy smoke and smell) is frenetically speaking to the staff, constantly clinking his tools and when I ordered egg white omelettes, not only he made that "turning eye emoji" face as slipped the interjection "misericórdia" (something like "for God's sake"). The sommelier at the main restaurant took so long to appear that we had already given up waiting for his advise when he came to take our order. I don't think the problem are one or two employees, let me be clear. Staff doesn't treat you bad, they just lack the training needed to service at a place like Six Senses. Gym should have more cardio machines, as only 2 treadmills seems little in peak times. I would highly recommend a stair simulator. The SPA massages are above average but really guys, "best in Europe" is a bit pushy. Definitely not comparable to the service offered by the Six Senses chain in Asia. Bonus: management team should really advise staff to be careful when addressing Brazilian clients (which are considerable in the hotel, for obvious reasons). I do understand there's a difference in the way Portuguese people are more "straight to the point" when communicating, but it is very easy to be misunderstood as rude. This is probably what happened when I called reception asking for an iron for my room and was told that there was none available. By the way, really? At a 800EUR/night 5* hotel?
Quinta De Tourais - Lamego - Building
9,8 Excellent (121 reviews)

10,0 Excellent
Pros: A little gem in the Douro Valley. The owner recommended a place for lunch which was fantastic. We have missed the wine tasting but asked if we could try it the next day. It was worth the wait. I could have stayed to whole day eating breakfast as the food was amazing. The room was large and comfortable and everybody was extremely welcoming and friendly.
Cons: There is nothing not to like.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Manuela was so kind and helpful. She even drove us to a restaurant in town and came to drive us back
10,0 Excellent
Pros: comfortable and relaxing. Manuela is an energetic and accommodating host!
Cons: not much natural light in the bedroom, but that is to be expected when staying in a farmhouse / winery with extra thick walls. should be delightful in the summer heat!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean. Friendly. Excellent breakfast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: If I could give this a higher rating, I would. This property had the highest rating we had ever seen on (9.9), so we decided to give it a try. I can't say enough good things about this place- It is on the Quinta de Tourais winery, run by an amazing family. We were welcomed and offered some samples of their wine. Then "Melita" arranged for us to have dinner at a nearby winery and arranged to DRIVE US THERE. The breakfast she served us the next morning was amazing- all directly from their property-the eggs, fruit, cheese. It was amazing. This family obviously loves what they do, and delivering this superb service comes to them naturally. THE BEST PLACE I HAVE STAYED ON BOOKING.COM!
Cons: The only thing I didn't like was that we only stayed for one night. I would have loved to stay longer. We will definitely be back. :)
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Manuela and her son made us so welcome. This is a great little Quinta in a beautiful location.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely stay at a family run B&B. The staff were fantastic, they picked us up from the train station and gave us some great recommendations. The location was peaceful and it was nice to relax in the pool with some of the wine made there. I would definitely recommend a stay here.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The property is very close to small town of Peso Da Regua. The owner, Manuela, gave us excellent suggestions for restaurants and they were all very good. The breakfast is very good and the view of vine covered hillsides from the patio is beautiful. The suite is large (ours had 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms) and very quiet. You can request a tour of the winery facility on the property. The friendly and helpful owners of the Quinta made the place extra special!
Cons: The bed is of average comfort.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely bed and breakfast. The rooms are gorgeous and well-appointed with wood floors and inviting tile restrooms. Quiet, gorgeous views of the Douro Valley hillsides from every angle. Nearby town of Peso da Regua fronts the river and is a lively spot with several very good restaurants. We dined at the warm and charming Tasca da Quinta -- highly recommended. Best of all, host Manuela and her staff are warm and inviting and offered a delicious breakfast on the terrace upstairs. Excellent wines for sale as well.
Cons: Nothing to report here. We enjoyed it all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Charming Quinta with delightful hosts. Manuela, her team and her family did everything possible to make us welcome. We loved the relaxed atmosphere and delicious breakfasts. The wines are very good, as is the family restaurant in Regua - unusual small plates and local dishes. We would love to return.

Cons: Location (no food options close by)
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Quinta do Terriero is a hidden gem. It is located not in Lamego itself but in a little village called Lilam about 9 km from Lamego. It is a simply gorgeous setting with amazing character and an easy drive to Lamego and other points such as the Douro Valley. I can't rave enough about the level of service we were given by the staff. We had bought things for a picnic dinner on the grounds. They set a table for us, provided everything and more of what we needed. Simply a lovely experience. If you are looking for a change from a city hotel and are looking for a quiet and romantic place to relax and truly enjoy the surroundings this is the place for you.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: There in winter rooms were a little coldjust the room being cold
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful surroundings, excellent breakfast. Feels like staying in a manor house.
Cons: Nothing to not like. Would have been nice to have a coffee making station in the room and more info on local attractions and restaurants, but did not detract from the stay.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place Nice breakfast Comfortable stay
9,5 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about Quinta do Terreiro. The accomodation itself is fabulous, so much history. Then the grounds are beautiful, the breakfast on the veranda is delicious and the the staff are wonderful. In my opinion they could not have done more to make our visit more welcoming, comfortable or memorable. They’re suggestion for dinner lead us to a delightful little restaurant that we would never have found on our own. It was nice to stay in smaller village away from the hustle and bustle of the larger towns. Quinta do Terreiro was a highlight of our visit to Portugal.

Pros: We loved our stay. The accommodations and grounds are beautiful. The staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. The staff made excellent suggestions for sight seeing. With little notice they went out of their way and served us a 4 course meal in the private dining room that was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Highly recommend a stay in this beautiful place.
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Everything was perfect from the breakfast to the kindness of the staff!
Cons: They should be more careful on maintenance: bathroom door and TV set were not working, toilet cap was loose and the curtain that allows you to see the river from the shower was not working. Small issues that did not reduce our overall satisfaction with the hotel, just an alert to the management!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, lovely hotel, superb food and wonderful, friendly staff. The view from the room was amazing, likewise from the restaurant and terrace areas. 9,5 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely lovely bed and breakfast in the Douro Valley. That staff and owner could not have been more welcoming, helpful and engaged. We had both breakfast and dinner at the Casa and enjoyed both. We particularly enjoyed the wine and port that were served with dinner and the amazing jams for breakfast. The property is lovely and is a very short drive from Lamego. Rita was incredibly engaging and its clear that she values service and is very interested in sharing her beautiful country and Valley with all of her visitors.
Cons: I cannot criticize the Casa in any way as it is lovely. My comment is more general and applies to most beds in Europe--they are so hard compared to American beds! It is just a fact of life and I would not let that fact deter you from visiting this lovely property.
9,5 Excellent

Pros: The breakfast was fabulous. Good views. Clean rooms and spacious bathroom. Recently refurbished. Great location to explore the surrounding area (which is stunning).

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay! Pool, restaurants, staff, room were all great.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was nice.
Cons: No help when arriving and struggeling with car and luggage. Not enough chairs by the pool!!!! Big issue and I had the impression, also not hotel guests were using the pool. Nobody at the bar selling any drinks!!
9,3 Excellent

Cons: Dinner at the restaurant was below expectations.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great facilities and attentive staff. The rooms were also very spacious and comfortable, especially the bathrooms which, for European standards, was quite large. The breakfast served was also very good and comprehensive.
Cons: The hotel was located a little bit further than similar properties, lacking a better view. However, it was not very far from the city center provided you were going by car.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice Hotel with great breakfast! Staff are super kind and helpful Pool is very beautiful and warm
Cons: No shampoo in the spa facility Only one jacuzzi - so take under consideration you will need to wait in line to go in ( if the hotel is full )

7,5 Good
Pros: Check in / out very smooth. Staff top quality.
Cons: Pool out of action for over a day. Steam room not always on. Breakfast room tiny for size of hotel, get there early or expect to wait over 10 minutes to find a seat.

7,0 Good
Pros: The beautiful Surroundings
Cons: Lack of hospitality (seemed very understaffed) Very uncomfortable beds No fans or air conditioning in the rooms which made is unbearable to sleep even with the windows open The evening meal (EUR35 pp) was simply an over priced buffet for the standard food and wine
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel situated within a wonderful landscape The hotel is decorated marvelously Dinner was exceptional
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was just amazing
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious and clean and we had a large bathroom.
Cons: The style of eating was strange for a hotel as we were all expected to sit together on a communal table with a tepid evening buffet for all. Breakfast was a similar situation and a tense feeling between all nationalities.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really rural with a great history and beautiful setting.
Cons: Beds boards squeak but otherwise it was perfect.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Everything was was beautiful and the evening meal was served to us by lovely staff. 35 euros each including wine which we thought was great value.
6,8 Good
Pros: The location and surroundings are amazing but I think the hotel is trading on this a bit and we were shocked at the lack of basics given the price and compared to similar prices hotels.
Cons: No replacement of water in the rooms, no wi-fi, no coffee making facilities in the rooms, no mention that they offered lunch, overpriced dinner and cheap instant coffee at breakfast.
6,3 Good
Pros: The building, the common rooms furniture and lots of classic pictures on the walls, as well as the large collection of decorative items. It is a very impressively maintained country home. The vineyards and gardens around it are equally impressive.
Cons: Our room could be more clean.
4,5 Okay
Pros: The old building and gardens were beautiful.
Cons: We arrived to find they were hosting a wedding which no one had pre-warned us. From our room the music was deafening so I went to find a member of staff to ask how long the party would continue for and was confronted by the property owner. After explaining my issue she began screaming at me, telling me I was crazy and that if I wanted to go I could because she was already rich and didn’t need my money. On top of this my wife is pregnant and her response to this when I told her was she didn’t care because she’d been pregnant once and had twins so I didn’t know what pregnant was. Needless to say we checked out immediately the following morning, with only a muffled apology from the receptionist who either didn’t seem to care or was just terrified/exhausted by his boss.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful home steeped in history. Beautiful surroundings. Very obliging staff. Excellent food.

Featured amenities include a computer station, laundry facilities, and an elevator (lift). This hotel has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: A very nice location with a nice view to Douro river. We only stayed fro one night but it was a nice experience. Staff were nice and helpful and treated us with a great respect.
Cons: I felt a bit cold all the time. However, there was an extra blanket to use during the night.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Large rooms, nice view.
Cons: In the area we stayed, internet connect was terrible. Excellent in most common areas. That’s my only complaint, but important to me.
4,5 Okay
Pros: Good breakfast.
Cons: DO NOT STAY HERE without checking the temperature of your room before paying for it. Be sure to ask at the desk if the air-conditioning or heat is working depending on the circumstances. It had been a warm day and our room had baked in the sun all day. Apparently a few days prior to arrival it have been cold so the manager decided to turn off the air conditioning and turn on the heat. There was no way to cool off our room except to open the doors to the balcony which would allow anybody to walk into our room all night long. When we checked out the next morning the front desk would only make excuses, they offered no apologies for the room being so hot that it was really unpleasant to try and sleep in. For 140 euros we should have been comfortable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Dinner amazing no words just speechless The terrach to the duro river The bath room so nice Decor with the stone Kids until 12 free amazing. Thank you
Cons: Nothing bad all very good
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Good location for our needs. Wonderful view from our room. Spacious room.
Cons: Tight underground parking.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is modern and luxurious. The room was enormous and had a balcony with superb views over the river. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: There is very little to see and do in the town of Regua across the river, so if you want a good meal, you may as well eat in the hotel's own restaurant, but the food there is good and the prices are reasonable.
7,5 Good
Pros: Bed and bedroom clean and very comfortable. the bathroom was very good and clean too. The view over the douro river and the whole scenery is tremendous! This is the perfect hotel for a romantic weekend or just for a quite and relaxing escapade!
Cons: an urgent attention is required to the sewage system and drainage as once we arrive at the main entrance the smell is nauseous. I am really amazed how the staff can work and stand so many hours within this kind of atmosphere! Although I must say the receptionist was very efficient and proactive. However the crew in duty at the F&B were a total caos. They have no idea what they are doing. They need to be trained! This should be a priority care situation because I can´t see any better location for an outing to a great restaurant or just for a cup of tea with friends overlooking the douro valley! Hopefully, on my next visit to this cozy hotel, this situation would have been fixed by the management!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Lack of extra coffee and water in room
10,0 Excellent
Cons: The room as such was great. But the heating in the room did not work when I was not in the room. So it became very cold and needed to be heated again when I came back to the room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Manager was extremely helpful and professional. The hotel was a delight to stay at and we would love to return

Overview Reviews
Located in Lamego, Casa dos Varais is in a rural location, within a 5-minute drive of Douro Museum and Museu do Douro. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
7,5 Good
Pros: Large breakfast with many options to choose from. Freshly pressed orange juice.
Cons: The place gets locked down at night and nobody responds to any phone calls or ringing of the doorbell. Thus I had to pay for a night to sleep in my hirecar in the parking lot. Quite angry about that
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The house is full of history and character, and located across the river from the town of Regua. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and we were welcomed with a glass of their own vintage port. Breakfast was very good, continental with a good range of breads and all the usual breakfast fare.
Cons: Being an older property, some of the usual amenities were missing, but that was part of the character and charm of the house. A few days without TV won't do anyone any harm, but maybe not the best property for children to stay.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: the garden
Cons: noisy location. too expensive for this standard. staf with hardly basic english, feels more like museum-archiv tham hotel
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Case dos Varais is probably unique as a bed and breakfast. Like staying in a stately home, richly ornamented and historic. A real experience. The current occupant and host Joao and his wife were charming and attentive, the breakfasts excellent. We had a suite, which was actually a bedroom, bathroom and a huge drawing room lined with photos of royalty and a fridge with two bottles of excellent (estate) wine at no charge. The suite was expensive but really unnecessary for us
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A great, comfortable and calm, interesting place. We felt very welcome and taken care of, got great tips for what to do in the area. The food was amazing, and, of course, the wine and port. I recommend to try their dinner, it's a very special, and delicious, experience. Thanks for having us,
4,3 Okay
Pros: nothing
Cons: the price is too high
5,5 Okay
Pros: Breakfast. Owner
Cons: Drains smell in room. Bed uncomfortable. Hotel on very busy main road and so impossible to have windows open
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent, very special service provided by Joao, Ernestina and Luisa. You enter a time capsule with all vintage furniture and relicts of magnificient past. Vineyard above the house and its products are worth recommending too.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great in a palacial setting. Our hosts were warm and welcoming and Maria served a beautiful breakfast.
Cons: I cannot think of anything I would change. There did not seem to be much signage indicating the location of the Manor House but in retrospect that was fine as it added to the charm of a get away spot.
