Great location for Highclere Castle and very comfortable.
The mattress was very very hard, but otherwise the room was lovely, if small.
Location was amazing and so close to Highclere for the Christmas Markets event. The check in and check out service was brilliant and everyone was extremely helpful with that. A lot of parking was available. All rooms are ground floor level apart from two rooms which is great. There was a good hair dryer in the room and a portable heater. Breakfast was excellent and really good service in the morning.
One room was extremely cold and the other extremely hot. The road noise can be disturbing as the motorway is very loud. The room needs a refresh as there were tiles, toilet seats and toilet roll holder was broken. Also I found sweets and plastics on the floor and toilet cleaner sitting on the sink so the room cleaning could be better. This was taken on board on check out. Evening waiting staff were very disorganised despite not being busy, also took almost 20mins to get the bill despite following up three times with 2 members of staff.
We absolutely LOVED The Carnavon Arms. The reason for our stay was we wanted to be somewhere close to HighClere Castle (where they filmed Downton Abbey) and The Carnarvon Arms did NOT disappoint. We arrived quite late the night before our booked tour and on arrival at The Carnavon Arms were we’re greeted by the Staff who were ALL so friendly and so welcoming. Beautiful hotel/pub with beams and such a lovely and charactable place. As it’s December, of course decorated for Christmas which adds to the charm. We were checked in and went to our room which was a superior room and it was gorgeous. Lovely room with very nice en-suite and so cosy and warm. We had a fantastic deep wooden tray with a Nespresso Machine with pods and home made biscuits and kettle with the usuals tea and coffee plus hot chocolate too! The bed and pillows were so comfy and honestly best night sleep in a long time and just such a shame we couldn’t stay for longer. My husband is a snorer but not sure how or why but he didn’t snore and I think it was because the bed was so comfortable and the pillows were just out of this world, honestly I’m being serious. A lovely room. Had the choice of eating in the dining room or more relaxed in the pub area which is just as nice and we chose to be more relaxed. The bar staff were so friendly and funny and made us feel so welcome. Our food was amazing. Beautifully presented and tasted delicious and extremely generous portions. 10/10 Breakfast the following morning was so nice, again either a cooked breakfast or buffet continental and it was really really delicious. Again staff were so accommodating and asked if we wanted anymore and if we were happy. We were so relaxed and didn’t want to leave. The comfort of The Carnavon Arms and the friendliness of everyone that works there were just wonderful and we would 100% recommend to stay here for that reason. Location is superb too. Great parking and no charge.
