The location is really the only good thing about this hotel.
Our visit to the Chelsea Pines Inn was absolutely terrible. The staff were cold and unfriendly (good luck getting so much as a hello when you walk in the door), the room was filthy and falling apart, and the complimentary breakfast was stale and felt like it had been sitting out for days. The television looked about 15 years old and most of the channels were just static. This is not at all what I would expect from an expensive New York City hotel. It was particularly disappointing because we stayed there about 9 years ago when it was still being run by the original owners, and we had an incredible time. Our experience this time was shockingly bad in comparison. Despite the hotel being filthy and unwelcoming, we were still planning to stick it out for the duration of the trip because it would be too expensive to cancel at the last minute and pay for another room. However, on our second night, the people above us had a super loud party. They were blasting music and had guests coming and going all evening. I finally walked down to the front desk to complain, and the girl working there seemed annoyed that I was bothering her. She begrudgingly agreed to ask them to turn it down, but then never followed up with us or checked to see if they quieted down (they didn't). The guests upstairs also seemed to realize we had complained, as they proceeded to stomp and kick the floor repeatedly afterwards. By midnight we had had enough and opted to book a room at another hotel for the next night. In the morning, we got up super early and went to check out. The guy working the front desk seemed confused but didn't even bother to ask us why we were leaving (we assume this isn't the first time they've had guests leave early after a negative experience). Overall, it was a terrible stay and we will not be returning.

Breakfast was very good. Plenty of choice, Great location and close to West Village and subway to JFK. Comfortable and clean room. Friendly and helpful staff and good value.
We arrived after midnight, and Sean at the front desk was wonderful. He welcomed us, took our luggage upstairs, and gave us information about breakfast and other amenities. All the housekeeping staff and weekend front desk folk were friendly and helpful. Bathroom was spacious, had new fixtures, and was very clean. Our room faced the back of the building and was very quiet and restful. The hotel location is awesome! It's half a block to a subway stop, lots of great restaurants/food hall on 14th street, short walk to the High Line park and Chelsea Market.
The carpet in the room was tired and needs to be replaced. The weekday front desk person was not friendly,
