Situated in the Historic Seaside town of Pictou is the welcoming and charming Willow House Inn Bed & Breakfast. This spacious home was built in 1840 for David Matheson, a Barrister, who became Pictou's first mayor. You are greeted with warm Maritime hospitality when you arrive at the Willow House Inn B&B. Park your car in our large parking lot - you won't need it to explore Pictou. It is a short walk to the picturesque downtown waterfront area where you will find unique shops, galleries, museums, entertainment and a variety of restaurants. Along the waterfront is the Hector Heritage Quay featuring the reconstructed Ship Hector and interpretive center. Here Pictou's history and Scottish influences dating back to the late 1700's will unfold for you. The Jitney Trail begins at the marina and follows the shore of the Harbour. It is perfect for a stroll or cycling. From it you will enjoy beautiful vistas of the town or watch the bald eagles soar above the water. This is the prefect location to unwind and leave all the hustle and bustle behind. The pace is very relaxed and the people friendly. Located on Nova Scotia's North shore, we are an 8 minute drive to the ferry to Prince Edward Island, 75 minutes to the Robert Stanfield International Airport, and a perfect location to stop on the way to Cape Breton. Other Activities If golf is your favourite pastime you are in luck. There are three eighteen hole courses within a twenty minute drive. If you want something smaller there are two nine hole courses within a five minute drive. There is something to suit all skill levels. Make the trip to Sherbrooke Village to visit this living history. A reconstructed village, it depicts life in Nova Scotia in the 1800â??s to the early 1900â??s. Stroll through the streets, enjoy a treat at the tea room or check out the saw mill. Why not try tidal bore rafting on the Shubenacadie River? The highest tides in the world are in the Bay of Fundy. As the tide comes in and forces the water through the narrow neck into the tidal Shubenacadie River the bore is created. This is sure to please those of you who want to experience the bore first hand. Take a trip out the Sunrise Trail stopping along the way to visit the Lismore Sheep Farm. A working sheep farm, there is plenty to see and do here. Continue along and visit the Balmoral Grist Mill, a working mill near the village of Tatamagouche. A little further along the Sunrise Trail is the turn off for Jost Vineyards. Stop and have a winery tour and sample some of Nova Scotiaâ??s finest wines. Watch out for some of the special events that take place around the County. If you're an athlete, you won't want to miss the Johnny Miles Running Event Weekend in celebration of a man who surprised everybody by winning the Boston Marathon as a complete unknown. In May and June, local fisherman catch lobster in the Northumberland Strait. This catch is a valuable part of our local economy. During the second weekend in July, we celebrate their role during the annual Lobster Carnival. 2009 marks 75 years of celebration for this event. The Summer Sounds is held at the deCoste Entertainment Center every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from early July until the end of August. Featured are wonderful local and Nova Scotia talent. The people of Pictou County take pride in a colourful past and an unparalleled quality of life. While you're here, take some time to enjoy a celebration of our heritage or relax and enjoy! In late 1760's, a group of business people in New England, including Samuel Harris, John Witherspoon and Ben Franklin, acquired a grant that became known as the Philadelphia Grant. The first settlers arrived on the shores of Pictou in 1767 aboard the Betsy. This group of people prepared the way for a big arrival - the Ship Hector in 1773. The ship arrived from Scotland in the early autumn carrying almost 200 passengers after an extremely difficult Atlantic Crossing. Along the waterfront is the Hector Heritage Quay featuring the reconstructed Ship Hector and interpretive center. Here Pictouâ??s history and Scottish influences will unfold for you. In the early 18th century, the wave of Scottish immigrants increased in volume. As the settlers spread across Northern Nova Scotia, Pictou became known as the birth place of New Scotland. These people brought many influences to the area. The town of Pictou was a hotbed of political discussion and dissent, particularly over the issues of religion and education. Pictou Academy, founded in 1816 was emblematic of many of these discussions. Today, the people of Pictou County have many interests. The headquarters for one of Canada's largest supermarket chains - Sobeys, is up the road. Just around the corner from us is the Grohmann Knife Factory outlet, where knives are crafted with special quality and care and renowned around the world. For those of you who love to stroll on the sand or just bask in the sun check out Caribou Provincial Park beach. Just a 5 minute drive away this is one of our most beautiful beaches. Swim in the warmest salt water north of the Carolinas or hunt for sand dollars on this beautiful crescent beach. 10,0 Excellent
Pros: The house is beautifully decorated and in good shape. Bedrooms are a nice size and lots of attention to detail. The bathroom is spotless. The house has two staircases so although you may be on a floor with other guests you are on a different side with your own bathroom. Brenda and George are very welcoming. Breakfast is included and is very good. Large parking area on side of the inn.
Cons: There wasn’t anything I didn’t like. I would love to come back again.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location, dining & staff were all good ingredients for a great late summer break.
Cons: The fact that hurricane Dorian kept us from using our entire stay due to power outages.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location, history, atmosphere of the lido. Our room had a nice decor considering it’s age and the staff were great. The nice sitting area by the giant fireplace was great.
Cons: We stayed in 12C and 12D which were nicely appointed but the walls and floors are evidently paper thin as I was awakened at 2:30 am by people stomping around next door and then I could literally hear every word they were saying. It really ruined a nice stay.
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: Bed were comfortable
Cons: Very outdated. Lots of dust and rust; several spider webs in corners of room. Unfriendly staff.
1,0 Poor
Cons: Very old and dated. Door broken..lock would not work on front door. Told front office.. moved . Very disappointed stay..won't be back.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: the room and the beach and the canoeing and the walk were great! The formal dinner was crappy!
Cons: Not happy at all with the "formal" dining. We sat at a table that had the air conditioning blowing at our feet. The party beside us at the next table was very loud ..... Kind of killed the "romantic" dinner we had planned. The bill came to over $140.00 for two entrees and a soup with no drinks …. pretty sure we paid someone else's bill. We placed a menu on the floor to cover the air-conditioning vent ….. the waitress seemed to know it was an issue (so unprofessional). The room was perfect ….. will stay again when we come back next year ….. we will plan an alternative to the "formal dining". We had a great time canoeing and swimming at the beach!
6,3 Good
Cons: To busy, too many guest for the property size. Overpriced in comparison accommodations and food.

8,0 Excellent
Cons: Climbing 36 stairs to the 2nd (in reality, it's the 3rd!) floor with a heavy suitcase is very hard on seniors, especially those with a heart condition. No mention on the website about no accessibility from the 1st (main) floor (which actually has no number, I guess). When people are on vacation, I don't expect to have to be awake and dressed in order to have breakfast before 9 a.m. Therefore, I guess we paid for breakfast for 2 days and got none (might have managed if we could have had it in our room).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful inn that has a very nice library/sitting room downstairs, which the hosts were very gracious to allow us to use for daily music practice. Our room had a view of Pictou harbor, also!
