Lovely looking hotel from the outside and in a peaceful location. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was tasty.
Staff seemed mostly miserable and only begrudgingly helpful, except for one member of the housekeeping team, who was exceptionally friendly, helpful and polite. For example, there was no explanation at check-in of the breakfast arrangements, and upon calling to find out and making my way to the sparsely populated dining area, not one member of staff approached me to offer me a table, drink or mention that it was a buffet service. Great customer service, guys. The bedroom was lovely at first sight, if cheaply equipped, but the double bed was a couple of bolted together singles and consequently had an uncomfortable solid ridge down the middle, the frankenstein-esque beds also creaked like they were going to fall apart at any second which really limited the athleticism of our sexual escapades. The walls were paper thin, which meant that our German neighbours (we could hear them talking) in the adjoining room probably got very little sleep between the creaking of our siamese-twin beds and the fact that my girlfriend snores like a dying walrus. Oh, and the room was also loving placed right underneath a spotlight which was mostly unpleasant, except for the fact it made me feel like I had finally made my West End debut... All night. Seriously, if you want to stay somewhere in the £70-£90 bracket go to a nice B&B or a Travelodge, rather than risk disappointment in Oakwood House.
