La Civetta - Foggia - Bedroom
1
9,4 Excellent (440 reviews)
Overview Reviews
La Civetta is a small luxury B&B set in an 18th century building in the centre of Foggia. Its designer rooms come with balcony, private bathroom, and spa bath. The original décor at this family-run B&B is inspired by the history of cinema. Each spacious room comes with flat-screen, and free WiFi. Bathrooms are fully equipped with modern shower and toiletry set. A continental breakfast is served in guests' rooms every morning. There are a range of restaurants, bars and shops in the neighbourhood. Staff are available 24 hours a day at reception and can give advice on local points of interest, trips and excursions. The guest house is well connected to public transport - Foggia Train Station is just a 5-minute walk away. The town of San Giovanni Rotondo, gateway to the Gargano National Park, is a 1-hour journey by car or bus.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast (including piping hot croissants) delivered to the bedroom. Beautiful bedroom. Located on lovely walking street just a short walk from the train station.
Cons: Noisy karaoke bar across the street.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The friendliness and behavior of the staff and the perfect location in Foggia.
Cons: The mattress was somewhat hard, although not annoying at all ... it could have been more comfortable.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The value was undeniable. The quality, design, location and comfort was great, especially considering the price the property was charging (given that it was an off season and Foggia is not on the radar of many tourists). All the amenities and interior was top notch and the place can't be more central.
Cons: I don't mind hotels (b&B's) that take up a whole floor in residential buildings, however owners need to be mindful of common spaces and how close they are to the rooms guests are staying in. The main complaint I have is the fact that the reception was literally one step away from the entrance to our room. First, it makes it awkward for guests to talk in the room as I am sure the receptionist can hear everything. Second, receptionist or other guest was watching a TV late at night and it wasn't helping us to fall asleep as it was fairly loud. I have a suggestion: get rid of the reception or at least limit hours to check in time - you don't need a 24 h receptionist in the property with 5 rooms.
9,6 Excellent
Cons: Difficult to find, sat nav brought us to street at b back of property. Parking on street
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very large room and bathroom.
Cons: Twenty steep stairs to reception maybe a problem for guests and no parking in the immediate area to unload bags.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room we were in was very spacious; very high ceilings, huge bathroom, bartable with stools, little balcony facing the central square. At the square there were lots of people chatting and strolling around, kids playing, very nice to watch from the balcony. Bathroom was very beautiful, large and clean. Personnel was very nice and showed us on a map what was there to see and where to eat. Unfortunately we arrived on a Monday night, so most of the restaurants she mentioned were closed, but with some help from the nice paople of Foggia we found a nice pizzeria. The city itself doesn't have a lot to offer, since it got bombed during WW II, but it's great base for trips in the area. We went to Monte San Angelo, very nice trip on a mountain where it's was nice and fresh and with a great view.
Cons: Breakfast is served in the room, which is fine, but when we arrived we immediately had to order breakfast for the next morning. It would have been better if there was a menu in the room from which you could choose, so you had a bit more time to decide. Breakfast itself was very well!

Pros: Each dining room is beautifully decorated, with paintings on the walls, classic / vintage design, a drawing of the building itself, tastefully laid out tables, the food delicious, the juices squeezed in the place, a magical Christmas atmosphere, the homemade pastries and everything very delicious! The hotel is a unique building with a family history, decorated with pictures, paintings of family figures and the history of this magnificent house. The location in the center, we left the hotel and we were already in the vibrant and magical holiday atmosphere of all the wonderful events and music, restaurants and decorated streets. So beautiful !!!

Pros: Fab location. Great building. Great breakfast.
Cons: Hot! No A/C.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was spectacular with a beautiful fresco on the ceiling and great balcony overlooking the Basilica. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The B&B is in a large palazzo right in the heart of Lucera (in fact in the Piazza Duomo), so it is very easy to walk from it to most destinations in the town. The owners, who also live in the palazzo are descendants of the family that have lived here for generations, and, for them, restoration of the house is very important (from the heart as they said to us). They have done an excellent job of offering modern facilities while at the same time recognising the house's age and significance with sensitive furnishings, colour schemes, etc. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and had an enormous bathroom as well.
Cons: The breakfast was relatively limited in its offerings> However, what was offered was to our taste, and our hosts kindly also offered boiled or scrambled eggs if you wish.
10,0 Excellent

Pros: The biggest room and bathroom literally overlooking Lucera’s duomo. Antique furniture and a very comfortable bed.
Cons: Just be wary that Lucerans come out en masses on a Saturday night - and they stay out until very late.

Pros: Not much
Cons: The arrival was a disaster. 40 degree heat, we waited outside for 50 minutes not realising the owner was inside. He knew we were there as we had phoned to say we had arrived, but we had to phone a second time to get the door opened.

Pros: The property was exactly as described, a delightful authentic family home that we felt very welcome in. It was authentic and quirky, very personal and well loved. The breakfast was spectacular and original, we felt very well attended to, wished we stayed longer. Really interesting lively little town. 10,0 Excellent
Pros: The immensely large room suite . the very large and nicely decorated bathroom with old floor tiles. the frescoes on the very high ceilings of the room.the pavement in ancient stone in the room.the nice little garden with centenary old trees where breakfast is served in Richard Ginory old pottery with nice silvery cutlery and an old crystal water carafe.Fresh juice is from the oranges in Gargano. The cherry jam is home made by a lady who has fruit trees in her garden ( only 12 pot were done!).The palace building of this B&B is a family loved one and well cared of: very clean and beautyfully decorated with antiques and old objects, mirrors and paintings. The linen huge white curtains in the rooms were disegned in the 80' by the family and hand embroiderd by local women. It is an exceptionally nice B &B!
Cons: Nothing.everything was exceptionally good!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property is loved and respected and this came across in its decor. The rooms were not pretentious, but elegant and in keeping with the palazzo and how it would have been used in its day. Antonio and his father are friendly and interesting people, with a passion for Lucera. Breakfast was outstanding, in the little courtyard garden with history dripping off the walls! Antonio presented us with a true feast and my gluten intolerance was not a problem with the tremendous spread of options he gave us. Excellent coffee, too!

7,5 Good
Pros: The friendlyness and willingness of the staff
Cons: The notices pinned everywhere in the room: "don't throw anything into the WC!" (everyone should know it ), "don't do this!" , "don't do that!" , but the best was: "don't try to tune up the air conditioning system, only the specialist is allowed to... you guest can only turn it on or off ...." What? To forbid to tune the air conditioning? It's not a nuclear power station !
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was perfectly located for us a short walk to the station. The room was spacious and the staff were very attentive and helpful. They gave us a wonderful restaurant recommendation too.
Cons: Because our room was in street level we needed to keep the curtains drawn, which was a shame. The breakfast was very basic.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff, Anna, was very helpful in planning a family party Staff was extra helpful in making calls for us We had a two room suite with painted ceilings, lovely view of countryside And very quiet

Pros: Swimming pool surrounded by a really beautiful garden
Cons: If I could would rate them more that 10! Impeccable under every aspect and the ground is fantastic.
4,6 Okay
Pros: It’s definitely past it’s prime. The first suite we where given had a broken latch on the door so it would not lock, we then moved to another suite where the shower was broken .... in 1985 I’m sure it was the best place to stay in town. Morano chandeliers and nice old world charm but badly understaffed and at most there where 5 people staying there.
Cons: It’s definitely past it’s prime. Cons: Breakfast
5,8 Okay
Pros: clean and quiet, more for events than for individual travellers
Cons: certainly not a 5 star hotel on international level. rooms are old.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast
Cons: - very poor wifi - in the build there are 2 swimming pool. One of this is unmanaged and water is very unclean
7,5 Good
Pros: The stuff was really friendly, the room was spacious. It is nice to be able to open the full window, that overlooked the pool, and get some fresh air in the morning. The breakfast options are brilliant! You can make your own fresh orange juice from the best oranges ever!! :)
Cons: The mini bar :( Considering the quite remote location of the hotel, it would be nice to be able to have some food and drinks out of the usual lunch/dinner hours. Having said so, the stuff were really trying to help out with whatever they could , but it would be better to have it as a room service menu option.
7,9 Good
Cons: No shop no transportation
7,0 Good
Pros: Beautiful hotel with great facilities if only they cared about guests staying rather than just on weddings being held there.
Cons: pool bar could not even provid a snack, coffee machine broken. Most the staff are extremely rude and unhelpful apart from Monica on reception who bent over backwards to help.
6,7 Good
Pros: Good pool, great reception area
Cons: Felt a bit strange. I think it’s because it’s a bit out of town and when there are not many people staying there it’s just a bit weird. Nothing wrong with anything at all, just a strange vibe.

5,0 Okay
Pros: The location was great, very close to the old centre (which is very nice). There was free parking.
Cons: The hotel might've been four stars 30 years ago. It has aged, and not well. The room smelled like the sewer and smoke. The ac was old, also leading to an unpleasant smell. The breakfast was mediocre at best, a small croissant and some fruit, along with some packeged sweets. The pool does not look like the pictures (at least when we were there) it was green and didn't smell great. The beds were very hard, some might like that, we didn't. The bathroom had broken handles.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location was perfect for seeing the old city. Staff were very helpful.
Cons: Small bathrooms with a shower cubicle that was designed for very thin people. The hotel is ready for a refurbishment.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location close to train station
Cons: Met my expectations
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was plentiful and it was served in nice dining room. The rooms were clean and the hotel itself is peaceful. It's got a nice lounge area for the guests, very comfortable. It is very central-- we had gone to see Bryan Ferry play a concert in the main square, and the hotel was five minutes away from that. The desk clerks were professional and we felt safe in our hotel and in our room. Overall, it's a quiet , clean, respectable hotel that seems managed well. Not "fancy" but not bad at all, either., for the price (I paid 69 euro for a double room stay on a Saturday evening)
Cons: They could have told us they had a bar by the lounge. It looked out of service but a rummage around discovered cold refrigerated drinks available, including beer, and soft drinks. The night desk clerk was a bit annoyed I'd rummaged around but it was only a check to see if there was anything there, not to help ourselves-- to his credit, he then took over and served us drinks. It would have been less awkward if we had been told from the start that there was a bar with a limited number of drinks and we only had to ask. Other than that, no complaints-- a good, comfortable, friendly, and reasonably priced hotel.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The ambience in general esp. the breakfast room.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location fine, Breakfast standard
Cons: It was a little tired

Pros: Excellent location very near the train station and in face of the the best restaurants in town, good quality and value of the room
7,9 Good
Pros: The concierge on reception during the day was very friendly and helpful. The staff I interacted with during my stay were very good.
Cons: The breakfast area of the hotel was pleasant enough, but sadly it seemed to be under staffed. Nearly all of the tables had not been cleared of previous breakfast items, luckily I managed to find the one remaining table that had not been used. Whilst the one member of staff did his best, he could have done with some assistance. Eventually the cleaner who earlier I had seen cleaning bedrooms, finally came in to the area to help out. My room was small but clean, however, the shower was broken and did not work properly. Although the bed was comfortable, it seemed to be a sofa bed rather than a proper bed? A genuine bed with head board would have been nice. The bar is not a bar, and needs a lot of attention, we were able to get a drink eventually, but it either needs to become a fully functioning bar or it should be closed down.
8,3 Excellent

Cons: Wifi - not able to connect

Pros: The biggest room and bathroom literally overlooking Lucera’s duomo. Antique furniture and a very comfortable bed.
Cons: Just be wary that Lucerans come out en masses on a Saturday night - and they stay out until very late.

Pros: Excellent location. Free parking at the street. Staff speaks English. Anita in particular was very nice and helpful Alenora as well. It's kind of a boutique hotel. Small and friendly. The family has a great restaurant near by, excellent for lunch and dinner called New Parco degli Ulivi (Sandro's). It was so good that we ate there twice.
Cons: No elevator
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is situated on one of the main entrances to the old town. Staff were very accommodating when we asked to be moved from our first room because it was noisy. Breakfast left a lot to be desired, very small selection.
Cons: No lift and 3 flights of stairs with luggage. However young lady receptionist did help us with our cases
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The double glazed windows really cut out the traffic noise. Bedroom was spacious with moderately high ceiling. The position was excellent to the centro historicio, while the free parking was close by just outside the city walls.
Cons: Three flights of stairs to the bedroom, though the staircase was comfortably broad enough.
