Literally could not have been looked after better. Was a pleasure to stay there.
The last who runs the place is absolutely amazing! And the breakfast was better than any restaurant I went to in Japan. Not to mention the street the ryokan is on is easily the best in all of Kyoto
The host was wonderful and really sweet.
It was a little small for me but I that is the fault of me being big!
The breakfast was ample, delicious, and made with care. Our host anticipated our every need, and the room was peaceful and comfortable. We loved the view of the garden out our window.
There was nothing that we disliked!
The host is an amazing woman! She is warm, hospitable and adds a personal touch to the ryokan. She was waiting down her lane for me, when I arrived. And gave me a parting gift when I left (besides placing my shoes at the door for me on my way out- Japanese culture?). Its a ryokan after all, and I got a glimpse of the authentic Japanese way of life. It is not a hotel. So if people are expecting the regular hotel facility, they should go elsewhere. The neighbourhood is beautiful. What's important is that I informed the host that I am vegetarian and the breakfast she prepared was par excellence! I would always return to Uemura on my next visit.
Well, the toilets are a bit of a squeeze. But thats Japan. I've been to hotels in Okinawa and Tokyo and its the same story. But in Gion- Kyoto its a very small price to pay. August is a terrible month, though. I'd love to go back when the temperatures are lower.
