The staff was amazing, the beds were comfortable, the decor was very charming, and while I only stayed in the dormitories the cubicles were more than spacious enough for me (6'2" or 182cm man) to spread out comfortably and keep my stuff in the space with me.
The bikes they have for rent are good except for one major flaw - the seats. Hard as a rock and so small it took a whole day for my rear to stop hurting. First off, the terrace provides a nice view of the sky, which I enjoyed as I ate my convenience-store dinner in one of the rocking chairs they have up there, but the high solid walls don't allow for seeing anything *but* the sky and the occasional building taller than the hotel. Secondly, there's nothing up there to provide warmth, so bundle up, it being a roof-top lounge it can get chilly. Lastly, the elevator only goes to the 10th floor, from which you'll need to take the stairs to get to the terrace.
This is in a great location, not far from the subway stations, and only a few blocks away from the Nishiki Markets. Very clean, and set-up was good. There was heating throughout, and even in the bathrooms (which is good in Winter). The free breakfast has Western and Japanese options. And the staff are super friendly, helpful with travel/tour options, and speak English well. Great value for money. I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend this place to anyone travelling to Kyoto.
Great central neighborhood. Comfortable room in a nicely designed hotel. Free breakfast too!
Staff are so friendly
Too few USB sockets
Everything was perfect, I throughly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto to stay here, brillant.
