For me, breakfast was underwhelming but my spouse enjoyed the breakfast very much: hard boiled eggs, miso soup, croissant/toast/sweet pastries, rice and a rotating type of entree, coffee. It was included, so this was nice for budget travelers. We stayed in a private room and bathroom and our experience is that the hostel is sparklingly clean. The bath and body products provided were surprisingly of high quality (Japanese brand called Pola and Shiseido) and I actually tried to find out how to purchase them at the shopping malls, but could not immediately find the specific type that the hostel used. Loved that they had a washer/dryer in the basement, which was very clean and easy to use. Detergent was already included in the wash and I was able to do our laundry in less than 90 minutes. Area was absolutely perfect since we were central and could walk everywhere; we only used Uber twice and that was to get to/from the Kyoto station (the Shinkansen bullet train stops at Kyoto Station to/from Tokyo) but that was because we had 4 suitcases and two backpacks so it was too troublesome to walk the half mile.
The private room was painfully stark and lacking some 'personality'. I was surprised by this because the entire aesthetic of the hostel from the lobby, reception, bar/breakfast area -- pretty much everywhere else, was impeccably well done; the aesthetic appeal was also the main reason we decided to stay in this hostel rather than a hotel. I would recommend adding a little more aesthetic appeal to the barren looking rooms to liven them up a little.
Calling Piece Hostel a hostel is a misnomer. It is more like a boutique hotel. It is a new facility on a quiet street near a metro line. The rooms are clean, the beds very comfortable and contain name brand toiletry products. Extra pillows and towels are available at will The staff are amazing - very interested in making sure all guests are taken care of. My husbands cane needed repair and they found a shop for us. Their “simple” breakfast consists of a wide variety of foods for all tastes. Coffee and tea are available any time. The rooftop patio is wonderful for end-of-day relaxing. Jazz is offered on the weekend. We liked this hostel so much we made reservations for our return stay.
Very clean, friendly staff, great breakfast options.
Booked a room with two double beds (bunk beds) for a friend and I, assumed that booking said room with two beds would allow for a second guest, it did not. Had to pay an additional fee when trying to check in.
The location was excellent and it was so stylish and modern. The breakfast was great and the staff were really helpful. You can also rent bikes for 500 yen per day which was great to see all that Kyoto has to offer.
The bed sheets were a little damp from the air conditioning in the room (I assume). The staff immediately offered new bed sheets but some of our clothes also ended up a bit damp.
The position of the hotel, the style of the hotel, the room.
