Everything was perfect. 1. The food still stay the same like hundred years ago taste. But the culinary arts level up. 12 course menu dinner. I mean wow. 2. The room is perfect. I book the 6 tatami. Its a small place but it have a garden. I felt like i was in the anime. Samurai X. 3. The staff is older and some are young. But the old staff are so nice. They still carry our luggage care for us. Like our loving grandmother after you dont see them for a year the treatment they give you there. On they dinning room ,while checking in and out. I will come back. I want to go back. Best thing in kyoto.
Everything about my stay was perfect. The inn and garden was absolutely beautiful with an amazing attention to detail. My room was wonderfully appointed and spotlessly clean. I arranged a private bath which allowed me to relax in comfort before the evening meal. The dinner and breakfast were excellent, the dishes were of the quality I would expect from a 5* restaurant. All of the staff we extremely helpful and ensured my stay was a magical experience.
The dinner was far what I would expect. Don’t think the ingredients were fresh. Absolutely waste of money. We were waiting this to be the best part of our Japan trip, and it turned to be a disappointment. Futons were not comfortable as well.
My wife and I stayed here for four nights during our honeymoon and it was fantastic. First time staying in a ryokan, definitely a huuuge step up from the hostel I had previously stayed in in Kyoto. The garden is magical, the staff is kind (they speak English well but their breadth of the language is limited), and the location is magical (it really is the best term for the goon area). The biggest surprise was that the beds they roll out are 1) conducive to being queen sized and not like two sleeping bags adjacent and 2) waaaay more comfortable than I’d expect. Did I mention the breakfast yet? Amazing, but for those who don’t feel as adventurous that early with the Japanese breakfast there is a western style option.
I suppose we would like to have slept in a bit more while still having the in house breakfast (options are 730, 8, and 830), but this is such a tiny thing.
The staff were exceptionally, and genuinely, friendly and helpful. The location was magical and we were in walking distance of countless attractions and the atmosphere of the Gion section of Kyoto was very special.
Located in Kyoto (Gion), Kyoto Ryokan SAKANOUE is a 3-minute walk from Yasaka Shrine and 7 minutes by foot from Gion Corner. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
