We visited in the winter and the lovely and cozy Hotel Wellies was such a joy to come home to each day. I especially loved the library/bar/living area- What a beautiful room! I noted all little personalized touches in every nook and corner of the room, there was so much loving attention to detail. We enjoyed the English breakfast on the 2 days we stayed- do not miss this! Pros: So happy that we can bring breakfast to our room. As my kids cannot wake up so early, they always unable to go down for breakfast. Thank you!
Cons: Hope you can be more flexible to extend a bit more time for checking out if the rooms are not fully booked. Families with kids will usually need more time to prepare... I requested for just half an hr late check out and was told that it will be chargeable. In most hotels, they will usually allow free late check out so long the rooms are not fully booked.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel with excellent sized room for our family of 5.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed with my family. Clean and large public bath and perfect size of rooms. Close to grocery store and convenience store.
Cons: Nothing to complain.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room we stayed in (entry price one) was really spacious so perfect for us four. Actually the hotel used to be apartment hotels so there is a kitchenette which is not furnished (no plate, cutlery) but with a large fridge/freezer and a microwave. So quite handy if you don’t want to eat outside all the times. There is a onsen which is a plus. It is actually a good 20min walk from the station and there is nothing around the hotel but there is a shuttle bus every hour - when we stayed in January. But taxi is less than 1000jpy from the station so ok if you can fill one! The hotel actually rent skiwear for free! And snow-boots as well. The breakfast buffet is quite Japanese and great for those who like Japanese food - our case. For non Japanese, it is ok but a bit limited. Also, if you are coming for a ski trip, the shuttle bus brings you to the ski station where you can rent ski gear and ski passes. The domain is quite small so would not stay more than a weekend but you still can have fun. Quite family oriented. There is a children park at the foot of the station with slide, giant trampoline for 1200 joy great for little ones.
Cons: Nothing in particular.
7,5 Good
Pros: Price, breakfast , public bath
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Clean and spacious
Cons: Slightly far away from station
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Rooms are large with kitchenette. Big bathroom with great bathtub. Have balcony for relaxation.
Cons: A bit far from train station but shuttle bus is available.

Pros: The breakfast is very delicious.
7,5 Good
Pros: recommand!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I had a fantastic time at Bellscabin, and am happy that I could stay for two nights because one wouldn't have been enough! The owners are friendly and warm, willing to help and answer any questions they can. The setting is incredibly beautiful and if you're an avid walker or hiker it's an ideal base with plenty of interesting things to check out in the immediate vicinity, and if you're willing to put in a 45 minute walk uphill, you can get to Karuizawa town easily enough. I visited Bellscabin during winter and the warm, cosy atmosphere was truly a blessing to come home to. The dorms are small and comfortable and the amenities offer everything you need from a backpackers. They make a solid BLT and a delicious cup of coffee so you can start your day on a good foot. I will definitely be back, hopefully in the Spring this time!
Cons: I wanted to stay longer!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: - It's a common private bathroom, good privacy. - Nice hot tub, love it. - Big bed. - Nice and helpful host. - Have shuttle service back to train station when check out
Cons: - Little bit far from train station. It would be hard to get there if you have a big luggage. - Very little spacing in the room, because the big bed takes quite a lot of spacing.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We have 2 nights there & everything is great. My nephew left his blanket there and we contacted them via email, very quick response. They manage locate it and send to our hotel at Tokyo. Thanks for all the hassle & help.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was simply perfect! The owners are super friendly, welcoming and ready to help. The breakfast is freshly prepared and looked delicious (unfortunately, we didn't have time to try it). The lounge is very cozy. And you can even have a nice warm bath after a long day. Right next to hostel there's a small restaurant with delicious food as well. After some walking you have Conbinis if you need them. You can explore Nakakaruizawa by foot and reach Karuizawa by train very easily. All that for a really cheap price that is hard to beat around Karuizawa. I wish we would have stayed longer!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had such a nice stay at Bells Cabin - it's a super cute cosy cabin in a beautiful spot. The owners were very kind and helpful and the breakfast is delicious. The room was basic but the bed was warm and comfortable. Loved Karuizawa too!
Cons: The bathrooms are 'shared' showers (separate mens and women's though) which is normal for Japan but could be a shock for other travellers.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breathe taking view, professional service and great English communication. We only stayed for one night and wish we booked 2 or 3 nights more to fully enjoy facilities so I recommend 2 nights at least and more if you’re in to skiing.
Cons: Shuttle bus to facilities and shopping zone is too crowded at peak time so you should get on a bus at least 30-60 minutes before the last round.
7,5 Good
Pros: Fabulous view
Cons: Small and pricy
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The Prince is nicely situated from Karuizawa Station with easy access to skiing, onsen and shopping. We stayed in a small cabin which was cozy and comfortable. The onsen is clean, with nice water and very relaxing, there were lots of families so having children did not feel like a burden. The ski slopes are very accessible, we didn't try this time but definitely will next time. The shopping complex is very extensive and there are lots of fun options.
Cons: The beds are a bit hard in the cabin we were in. It is a big complex, so getting around take some planning especially with kids. The hotel is very accommodating with pick ups and drop offs, but its best to know where you'd like to be in advance.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We were looking for comfort in nature, and this hotel delivered. The view over the woods and pond was special. The rooms are roomy, comfy, and importantly WARM!!. The shuttle drivers and concierge were super helpful and positive. Standout was the breakfast. If you stay at this hotel, BREAKFAST IS A MUST, that view, decadence, and silver service to start the day was a highlight of our trip, and the food was superb. Not sure how they made a fried egg a sublime experience, but they do!!! Highly recommend this hotel. Also if you absolutely have to go to Japan in December and want to see snow (see negative comment below), go to this hotel (resort area), the amount of man made snow was AMAZING, and so fantastic, for someone wanting a snow holiday when it hadn't snowed yet. Full credit to resort for the snow facilities before the first snows had even fallen.
Cons: No fault of the hotel at all, so not sure I should mention here, but don't go to Karuizawa in that 1 month void between the last of the autumn leaves and first snow. It is a bleak, bare and very cold place, with a lot of the local town closed for their down time, and lost of muddy renos going on everywhere. Understandable as the place must be packed every other season. Definitely go to the Karuizawa Prince and Karuizawa in general, just not in early december.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great atmosphere: quiet and beautiful scenery from the guest room. if you like to hide away from a commercial district (as there is a big outlet mall in front of Karuizawa station) and spend a relaxing time in typical Japanese mountainside, I recommend this hotel
Cons: Restaurants and Bars: Like other Prince brand accommodations, bars and restaurants serve so so food with excellent (very high) pricing. If they (group wide) changes their mind (i.e. to serve great food with (a bit) reasonable price, or ordinary food with competitive price - i.e. exceed guests' expectations - I would like to give the highest rating.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Very scenic location with great views from the room that has a nice picture window
Cons: F&B is a challenge. Hotel only had a stuffy and pricey European restaurant. Restaurants advertised are spread across the property which is very large.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Beautiful view
Cons: Bus times were irregular. Especially lunch time and last bus is 9 pm. Dining options severely limited

Pros: Confortable, staff is friendly, natural impression
Cons: Location is quite far from shopping area
9,2 Excellent
Cons: My only gripe is that the walls were a bit thin.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: cThe owner is incredibly warm and friendly. She made our stay very enjoyable!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very kind and helpful.
Cons: The facilities were clean and well maintained, but not very modern. It was very nice to have own bathroom, but it was small unit found in tiny studios back in 20-30 years ago. It was difficult to close and open the door of the room with the key. I did not like the smell in the room, but I can't tell what it was (air freshener)?
9,2 Excellent
Pros: I like the quiet place, very accomodating owner and staff. The morning breakfast served was truly delicious. Two thumbs up .
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Yuki, the owner, is a gem. Very helpful and kind. Quaint little place, will definitely be staying again.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Thanks to the owner, Yuki San, she is kindly and friendly. She also prepared delicious breakfast. It is nice place even though it is far away from convenient store and eatery
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The owner of the hotel, Yuki-san was an extremely friendly and kind owner. We recommend staying at the Japanese futon style rooms and breakfast was delicious! thank you, looking forward to coming back and staying here!
Karuizawa Hotel Longing House - Karuizawa - Building

7,5 Good
Cons: I booked two nights on this hotel 1 month earlier, however, when I arrived there, I was told that they confirmed my reservation but did not make sure the room for me. In the end, the staff was kind enough to find me another hotel to stay, which was just ok, but at least my partner and I didn't have to cancel our trip.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Room most luxurious of all we had in Japan - huge and roomy. They told us we had been upgraded.
Cons: Restaurant very expensive (knew this ahead of time) but managed to eat in the bar. The hotel is far from town so there are no eating facilities nearby for travellers who aren't driving.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Most of the furniture are made up of wood and the feeling is so warm
7,1 Good
Pros: The room was excellent and the hot spa provided was more than excellent. We loved it. Most staff went out to see to our needs. We were very happy with these staff.
Cons: The place/hotel looked very empty. Staff present were invisible. Common areas need improvement. Maybe the hotel have to consider more shuttle trips to and from the hotel for visitors without cars.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are really nice and large, the bathtub was lovely and the whole hotel was really well done. The associated restaurant is expensive (mostly cos its a 4 course min) but the food was amazing. Would stay again.
Cons: If you are hiking the nakasendo like we were and don't have a car, its a good half an hour walk to the station. There is a shuttle but the times were pretty unhelpful.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location in greenery, away from the tourist crowds. Staff are so cheerful and helpful throughout the resort-like hotel. The vegetable varieties and meat produce at the restaurant are amazing. Breakfast is healthy with superb vegetables, eggs, bread and fruit dessert options, including sparking wine at breakfast. There is also a wine bar with food, pity we didn't get to try as the menu looks delicious. The private hot bath is relaxing, though the access is only for 45 minutes a day. There are nice restaurants nearby. Town centre is 15 min bicycle ride away (or shorter by cab). Hoshino onsen 20 min bicycle ride away. If you are looking for a place to relax in Karuizawa, make no hesitation to stay here.
Cons: Would be nice if we could have access to the private bath for more than once a day.
7,5 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, spacious room, nostalgic feeling. The weekday price is very good.
Cons: The narrow, winding road without any street lights from the exit of highway to the hotel was a bit scary.

Cons: No onsen/ofuro
7,1 Good
Pros: Cleaning
Cons: Every required things need to concern staff. Like humidifier in winter season.
7,9 Good
Pros: Clean, sufficiently equipped with basic essentials. Breakfast was very good and value for money!
Cons: Rooms were small and tight. Was confused by the self service ‘make up room’ so ended up with some days of uncleared trash n towels... location was abit far out from outlet mall and ski slopes and most accessible if drive.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The place is clean and it’s what you see in the photos.
Cons: It’s half an hour paced walked into the township. There is no courtesy shuttle and the bus runs infrequently so be prepared to walk. The beds are rock hard. The staff would not store our bags for us on our last day. We wanted to store our bag for 1 extra hour after checkout and they said no. We also called them from town to ask them to call a taxi as the only way to get a taxi at night is for your accomodation to call the taxi company or you can call taxi if you know Japanese and they also said no and hung up so we waited over an hour in town in the rain. Not very helpful staff sadly. I don’t like complaining but we did not have a great experience and wouldn’t stay here again :(
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very good location
Cons: Bad smell for non smoking room

Cons: Dining ambiance, suggest to have a more cozy atmosphere.
6,0 Good
Pros: The hotel is 5mins walk from the station. Great value!
Cons: APA hotel is known to be in good locations but basic amenities/facilities
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very helpfull and friendly. The hotel is clean, the room is clear. The twin room has 120cm size bed. Near to the karuizawa station. Walking distance.
Cons: Everything is looking good
8,0 Excellent
Pros: You pay for the location and the convenience. 2 minute walk to JR station. Hotel is just one road across Prince shopping plaza. The Single Room actually could fit 2 persons well. We booked 2 rooms for 2 pax, but as a couple we ended up staying in 1 room only and wasted the other one.
Cons: The checkin area looks damp and unclean. It might not be hotel's fault, it might be because the wet and slushy ski/snowboard gears from staying guests right behind the front door and next to lift. Hotel can do better by finding a more appropriate space for guests to leave their winter sport accessories.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Near to the station, walking distance. the staff is very helpfull and friendly. Bathroom is clean. View ok. Twin room has 120cm bedsize, single room has 150cm bedsize.

Pros: Beautiful view
Cons: Bus times were irregular. Especially lunch time and last bus is 9 pm. Dining options severely limited
