Sumiyoshiya - Kanazawa - Building
1
9,5 Excellent (421 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Sumiyoshiya in Kanazawa, you'll be a 3-minute walk from Omicho Market and 11 minutes by foot from Kanazawa Castle. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Awesome location close to the market and within walking distance of Kenroku-en, Kanazawa Castle, and Higashiyama-chaya. Both the western and the Japanese breakfast were delicious!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was the best experience in accomodation in Japan. Our host was impecable as hospitality !
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the hospitality of the owner and the traditional Japanese rooms. I felt welcome and got foreigner friendly help when I was confused with a ryokan custom, without making the experience any less authentic. Opt for breakfast - it's filling and delicious!
Cons: Foreigners be warned - the public shower + bath is small and traditional (meaning no bathing suits) so if that makes you uncomfortable opt for the private bathroom.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous place to stay. Great location and very comfortable rooms. The family who own this establishment were lovely and very helpful. Highly recommended.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff. The location is very near the central market and it's very easy to visit the town from there. We had a very pleasant experience in this traditional ryokan, sleeping in the futon, trying a traditional Japanese breakfast, enjoying a warm bath.
Cons: Nothing.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: the location, the ambiance
Cons: no furnitures at all.. sit on the floor.. just one table in the middle.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful traditional inn. We loved our stay here. It's a great location, close to Omishi Market and the castle. The room is beautiful, and the onsen (bath area) is pretty cool.
Cons: Probably my own fault, but I woke up with a pretty sore back from sleeping on the floor. I bet it's not a problem for normal-sized folks, but I'm a little too tall and a little too old...and I guess I need a regular mattress to support my spine!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect, the room was beautiful and the advises to find a restaurant for dinner always good. I will come back with pleasure.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming people, beautiful room and ryokan, tasty vegan dinner made upon request.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Food was very good, clean, nice room, very well located, excellent service, staff spoke sufficient English to understand and have basic conversation.
Cons: Bed could be slightly more firmer. I am heavyweight but normal folk should be ok
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Japanese style breakfast and dinner. Mie was an attentive and kind host. The free use of a bicycle made getting to various sights around town a snap.
Murataya Ryokan - Kanazawa - Building
2
9,1 Excellent (619 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Murataya Ryokan in Kanazawa, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle. Featured amenities include a computer station, luggage storage, and laundry facilities.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan is located 30 min walk from the station, but if you have JR pass you can use it on JR buses. I is in a little alley between a very nicee high street and the "cool" restaurants area. The tatami room was large and had air conditioning, beds, linens, and yukatas were as new. The common bathroom and washing areas were always impeccable. We have been offered great green tea and the water in the thermo flask was always hot.
Cons: They do not manage your payment through booking and they only accept cash. English was basic but enough to cover fundamentals for the stay in a ryokan.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Kimono and japanese style bath
Cons: Nothing
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and helpful staff in this typical Ryokan. Very good location. We could leave our luggage prior the check-in and after the check-out. Room furnished in a traditional way. A must-do in Japan.
Cons: Humidity smell in the room
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous location for sight-seeing, but not close to the train station. This is a classic ryokan-style inn. Great value. The lighting in our room was nice, with a window to a green, quiet courtyard. The staff were so helpful.
Cons: The onsen (hot bath) is tiny, and the bathroom is down the corridor. (Beware of the house slippers on the stairs).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great. Clean and good location. Owners are very helpful.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: It Is a traditional house in the center of kanazawa. It Is very comfortable with a small bit nice public bath.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The stuff ate extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and nice with walking distance to all the main attraction. I really enjoyed my stay there.
Cons: Only one small thing: when I went back for shower after a humid hot day, some guests locked the Japanese style shower/bath place from inside which was supposed to be shared with other people but that is not a big deal: just need to wait a bit.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were so helpful and accommodating. The rooms were restful and calming. We all loved the hot bath
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, clean & friendly - perfect place to explore the city!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was really helpful, they helped us when we wanted to book activity and nights with Japanese speakers. They were really nice and we felt like in a friend's house, thanks to them.

Minshuku Ginmatsu is located in Kanazawa and takes about 10 minutes by bus from Kanazawa Station, near Kenrokuen Garden. Free WiFi is available in each guest room. Yukata are available for guests to wear during their stay. The hotel possesses 5 guest rooms.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: in historic district, clean and spacious tatami room, very friendly staff (basic communication in English was possible), JR bus (can be used with JR Pass) stop only 5 minutes walking distance and the bus stops at all major attractions as well as at the station
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely traditional Japanese accommodation. The property is located in the Higashi Chaya district which is like going back in time! The room was very spacious and well presented and we were provided with traditional yukata and loose leaf green tea in the room which was a nice touch. The hosts were very friendly and overall it was a lovely stay.
Cons: The walls are very thin and our room was very close to the bathroom so which meant a disturbed sleep.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great place and excellent hospitality.
Cons: All
7,0 Good
Pros: walking distance to Higashiyama Higashi Chaya District. ard 5-10min. bed room at 2nd floor with share toilet.
Cons: the road to minshuke ginmatsu very narrow. but lucky is free parking
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Staff was helpful and friendly, and helped us out with Takkyubin, sending our luggages to the next hotel. Shared toilets wasn’t a problem, as they were almost always available when we needed to use them. Room was spacious.
Cons: Located slightly further away from the tour bus route
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I think this was the best hotel I've been in Japan. Parquet everywhere so it was not allowed to walk using your shoes but was mandatory to leave them at the front door...The staff was very very very polite and ready to give you all the info you need...even if they can speak only Japanese. To go around the house you can use the yukata that you fine in your room. We had a fantastic experience in a traditional Japanese house.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: A homestay that has a 2 shared bathroom (1 for male n 1 for female). Above average for the homestay!! The owner could communicate in English+hand language but was very helpful! Try homemade breakfast (very appreciable)
Cons: Quite hard to find in the first place (so many houses there)
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Minshuku Ginmatsu is a lovely family owned Ryokan. Clean, quiet, relaxing, romantic. The wife loved it!
Cons: Our lampshade was a bit dodgy but that's literally it. We loved it and would stay there again!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location
Cons: It was difficult to find it
7,9 Good
Pros: It was a cute atmosphere, the staff were extremely hospitable and the home was lovely.
Cons: The bed mats for sleeping were awful, probably one of the worst sleeps of my life.

7,1 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel was very good for sightseeing. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The hotel seemed old and needed to be updated.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Awesome staff willing to help in anyway they could.
Cons: No pool.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really luxurious couple of nights in Kanazawa, staff were very friendly and professional, some of the best English speaking we encountered throughout our three week tour of Japan. GOod Location as well.
6,3 Good
Pros: Breakfast great! Location great! Staff recommendations for restaurants great! Many of the staff were lovely and tried hard. The onsen was fun! The lobby is welcoming and pretty and the check-in/check-out is easy and pleasant. The free drinks and treats everywhere were a nice touch!
Cons: Some of the staff were not so pleasant. Given how expensive the hotel is, they really should have a staff member who speaks English on duty at all times - given the fact that the hotel was at least 50% occupied with English-speaking/European travelers. Rooms were clean and decent-size. They were comfortable. However, for the price, the decor is really dated and bathrooms were hideous and small. Hallways were depressing and shabby - especially unpleasant to look out on the dirty smoking outdoor area/exit right near elevators. All this was expected based on previous reviews, but when you get the bill - same price point as 5 star hotels in Tokyo!!!! - you realize they need to overhaul. Breakfast room is an example: food and buffet was great - but the set-up is very pedestrian - more along the lines of a lower price point.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and professional staff. Excellent location and breakfast. The hotel has an interesting feature a hot spring that you can use. Also the restaurants in the hotel are very good.
Cons: I feel this was an expensive hotel for Kanazawa and there was not even one English language TV channel which we found odd as most overseas hotels at least have CNN.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great, very big hotel with onsen on site, which was wonderful! The Onsen had everything you could possibly need and the Traditional Japanese Style rooms were wonderful and spacious.
Cons: Maybe the price was a bit expensive and the location slightly less central, but wonderful nevertheless.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Really great facilities, on site washing machine, private baths for couples or small groups, very helpful staff and delicious breakfast
Cons: Get to breakfast early as it’s very popular with other guests
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hot springs were wonderful, everything else was terrific
Cons: It was perfect

The Kanazawa bus transit center and train station is within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and professional. Room was spacious compared to similar hotels in Tokyo.

Pros: Perfect location next to train station. Beautiful view. The price of the hotel is very reasonable. Lot of choices of restaurant. We tried 2 which were very nice. We were given a complementary mattress for our 2 years son.
Cons: The room was small and would need a little update. There are 2 bars in the top floor but none of them accept kids so we could not try.

Pros: The location right next to the train station and the main bus terminus was fantastic. Lots of great shops and restaurants on your doorstep too. Breakfast was excellent and the free drinks in the evening an absolute bonus. I only wish I'd had the opportunity to check out the onsen.
4,6 Okay
Pros: There was a happy hour in the afternoon if you are around for it.
Cons: Location wise it is very far from all the major attractions, the only thing it is close to is the train station. The rooms were smaller than Tokyo accommodation and the toilet/shower facilities were borderline claustrophobic.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel and our room was spotlessly clean with a great location next to the train station. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. We definitely recommend this hotel
Cons: Nothing to dislike
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very close to the beautiful and convenient Kanazawa station, with lots of fabulous restaurants around. The hot spring is very good. The food provided by the hotel is delicious. Staff very nice and can speak English.
Cons: The hot spring is always crowded, especially for the lady hot spring facilities.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff helpful Spa bath relaxing
Cons: Room hot No instructions in English for operating aircon If the property simply stated on its website that it is down a side street right next to Forus department store it would be easier to find
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the natural spring Onsen on the rooftop, the free bar for 2 hours and also the complimentary Ramen afterwards
9,4 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, free drinks/snacks around dinner time, free noodles at night, onsen and sauna, large room, modern and well-equipped bathroom. Friendly staff.
Cons: Just a little more expensive then other hotels nearby.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: the hotel gave us the room next to each other. the free drinks in the morning and happy hour time. and of coz the soba. very comfortable public bath room. if no need to clean room during continuous staying for 2 or more days , free cup noodles or face mask is provided. the Location is very close by the train station. and the car park is very convenient.
Cons: hope can have connection room or family room for family of 3. i also forget to request two twins bed room.
7,0 Good
Pros: Breakfast had a large choice of Asian food and different omelettes. The onsen, the free drinks and ramen in the evening were very nice to have.
Cons: Unfortunately, we booked a room that was way too small for two people and did not expect it to become so stuffy at night. Maybe, for people who are used to sleep with the AC running at night, it would not be a problem. However, for us, the insufficient ventilation was rather uncomfortable.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: The free noodles and happy hour were a nice touch. The location is very close to the train station. The hot spring was relaxing. Room was clean and well-designed. Bigger than I had expected.
Cons: Takes a long time to checkin.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Free happy hour is a great idea that brings everyone out of their rooms and gets them socialising downstairs. Free ramen to follow up the free drinks is also a really good (and much needed) idea.

Cons: Breakfast quality, ie poor orange juice, poor coffee and tea.
Hotel Resol Trinity Kanazawa - Kanazawa - Building

8,5 Excellent (2 081 reviews)
R1 050+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Resol Trinity Kanazawa in Kanazawa, you'll be a 3-minute walk from Omicho Market and 12 minutes by foot from Kanazawa Castle. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a bit far from the station (appx. 20-25 mins walking with suitcases) but you always can take a taxi or ride a bus. The location seemed very central for us - in the middle between the station and the attractions (old district & the garden). The market is very close. We arrived at 7pm and after check in went to the market area for dinner and drink in one of the local izakaya (seafood & sake). It was interesting experience :)) The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean. There are 2 convenient shops just besides the hotel - what else one can want in the morning?! Coffee & sandwiches! Would stay again, no doubts!
Cons: Nothing as I remember
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spacious room with nice lounging couch. Comfortable beds
Cons: Cleaning was slightly lapsed with rubbish found beside and under bed.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are super friendly and helpful. Size of room worked really well for us as a couple, and everything was kept very clean.
Cons: The only complaint we have is that the laundry facility should be complimentary instead of a charge of 500 yen. Everything else was perfect!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were very clean and spacious.
Cons: Although the staff were kind, we made a note in advance to accept an urgent Fedex letter for us. When the letter arrived they did not accept it. We therefore had to extend our stay by another night for fedex to resend the letter. They did not apologize or offer any discount on their mistake which took away from our great stay at the hotel. They also do not have room service and when we checked out stood and watched us struggle with our bags rather than have anyone help us. Good hospitality can go a long way.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good value for money
Cons: Room size, too small
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed and pillows, great amenities. I always stay here when visiting Kanazawa. Great central location as well. Spacious bathroom compared to similar properties.

Pros: The Japanese breakfast is excellent. The Front Desk Staff's English is very good and service is great.
Cons: Need to pay a hotel tax Yen 200 per person.
7,5 Good
Pros: Was pretty good quality.
Cons: Bathroom can be cleaner and newer.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very good personnel, good breakfast.
Cons: Size of the room and a bit steep in price.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location, location, location.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: First stay at a Tokyu Hotel and very impressed with the level of service and overall look and feel of the hotel. If you are looking for a modern hotel in Japan which is still very Japanese then this chain is a good bet. This particular hotel is very well located for the garden, the castle, the modern art museum and the old samurai neighbourhood. Around the back are plenty of bars and izakayas to keep you happy at night. We instead opted to walk to Higashi Chaya-gai, the eastern geisha district, which was very pretty but extremely quiet. Should probably have visited it during the day rather than evening.
6,3 Good
Pros: The hotel is a short bus or taxi ride from the station but in a very good position , near the gardens and samurai district The staff were very friendly and did their best to help ( although our request for soft pillows in English and Japanese only resulted in more hard ones) I liked breakfast but my friend who likes western style breakfasts thought it OK and no more
Cons: The beds were hard which my friend and I could have tolerated had the pillows been soft: a hard rubber pillow and a softer one but with a hard grainy layer ( perhaps buckwheat?). We had little sleep both nights It was my second stay in a year at this hotel. I had booked superior single rooms with club access. There was an element of penny pinching - the room was on the small side, only one towel and even only one teabag! The club lounge was the same - hardly anything to eat with drinks eg three tiny plates ( one with half a slice of salami and pork sausage and a little bit of cheese was the largest offering ) and no generosity in the range of drinks or offering another glass My friend rated this hotel the worst she had stayed in in her four trips to Japan. I thought it only fair this time
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was in a great location, room size was good. Bathroom clean and well sized.
Cons: Mattresses were too hard.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were the most wonderfully kind people. Super accommodating, resourceful and helpful. Extra thanks needs to go to Zhi Yang. I left some items in my room which was my fault alone and had left Kanazawa before realizing. Upon contacting them I was promptly re-directed to Zhi who has been in constant contact with me to organise forwarding my items to Osaka location for pick up.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very central location. Clean rooms. Courteous and very helpful staff.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were great, facilities and public spaces were comfortable and attractive, location was perfect, restaurants and food were delicious. The staff was accommodating and friendly, and they went above and beyond to help with any request.
Cons: There was no Wi-Fi in the rooms, and the wired internet that was provided was very slow. In this day and age, it seems important to provide quick, reliable internet and Wi-Fi, or it will be difficult for business travelers (or anyone who relies on the internet really) to stay there.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: No

Cons: Bathroom a little small
9,2 Excellent
Pros: A well appointed room, near the railway station. The ice machine and microwave on the ground floor near reception was useful. The hot bath in the adjacent building was very pleasant after a day visiting tourist sights, this gets busy later in the evening, 8pm plus.
Cons: Only downside was the internet proved incapable of serving the many guests from about 9-12pm, the management should try to rectify this IMHO. A very popular hotel.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: can't find such a nice location from main station, Kanazawa like this hotel. Please go and try to stay in a severe weather, typhoon, whatever. This hotel helps me a lot with its cozy atmosphere, too. And, this is my second stay. I can't wait my next visit!
Cons: Hmm, hard to figure. A good-looking, not izakaya type restaurant, I prefer.
8,3 Excellent

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient for the station and for getting around Kanazawa. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was right next door to a shopping mall that connects to the Kanazawa station. So the location was superb! The staff were very accomodating and kind enough to upgrade our room to a superior double room which was quite big in terms of size (we could open 2 large luggages at the same time). They all could speak good english as well. We will definitely come back here again the next time we visit Kanazawa as the hotel is central to everything that Kanazawa has to offer.
8,0 Excellent

Pros: The onsen was really nice and I liked all the people moving around - gave the hotel extra life.
Cons: I thought it was too expensive given the size of the rooms, the location and the facilities, I expected more.

Pros: The Spa was really great. It’s very relaxing and has hydro massage. The room was okay for one person, even bigger than other hotels.
Cons: The room was old, the TV specially, the staff didn’t speak very well English and breakfast didn’t have much variety.

Pros: Everything was good for me. I enjoyed the good Japanese breakfast.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean and with all the essential comforts.
Cons: Staff couldn’t speak English but somehow we managed to understand each other. Room was a bit smaller than what I expected.
5,8 Okay
Pros: It looked posh and the staff were helpful but it didn’t meet our needs.
Cons: We had two rooms one single and one double. The double had a double bed that was only slightly bigger than a single bed in the single room and the rooms were so small. I asked for a bigger room which I got with 2 separate beds but it did cost me an extra £44. Then the AC didn’t work properly so we had a very warm room. The staff were friendly but really struggled to speak to them about the issues I had in English. My fault I should have learnt Japanese since I am in there country. I wouldn’t recommend the place to be honest.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Well located atmospheric traditional accommodation with friendly obliging host and his gracious mother who made us delicious and amazing Japanese style breakfasts. Easy to walk to Kanazawa’s main attractions. Pleasant neighbourhood near lots of restaurants and shops. Warm bedding and well heated rooms. Large double room suitable for 2 adults and 2 or more children. Recommended for a great Japanese experience.
Cons: Nothing. Though I speak Japanese so a phrase book might come in handy if you don’t.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The manager Seito is the best thing about Kikunoya because he is warm and welcoming. Even though he speaks only a little English, he helped us with our questions, prepared an amazing Japanese style breakfast -- great value at 1,000Yen -- and even did our light laundry at no charge. Rooms and furnishing, very simple in the Japanese style, are thoughtfully decorated with attention to the smallest details: pot of hot water, tea bags and service, tissues, extra futons.
Cons: My husband was concerned about having a toilet down the hall, but in fact, although the ryokan was full, we never waited to use it or do bathe in the large Japanese bathing room. Both super clean and full of toiletries.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location couldn't be better. Super clean and quiet. Near all the major sights. The owner is extremely helpful and friendly. The small art deco restaurant in front has great food as well.
Cons: Some other guests were smoking in the foyer :(

10,0 Excellent
Pros: This property is in a very good location in Kanazawa and it is a lovely ryokan to stay.
Cons: The room was a little stuffy as it was on a top floor so lacked airflow, it maybe nice to great guests with fresh air from an open window or with aircon at first.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: A warm welcome will wait for you in this family run ryokan 5 min walk from the main shopping street and close to the main attractions in Kanazawa. Delicious and rich breakfast in the morning and very comfortable room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Family run ryokan, very charming people. Clean and tidy, will stay there again if I go to Kanazawa again.
Cons: A little far from the train station, take the taxi there if you have luggages, will cost you approx ¥1400 from the station.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is very good, coming out is JR station and long distance BUS passenger station. and many of the shopping mall around the hotel. so very easy if u want to buy something. the service of the hotel staff is very great, when we asked them where to buy the glucose meter, we have not found it all the way, they patiently help us find and contact the store.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location service
Cons: No
5,4 Okay
Cons: I was generally satisfied by the hotel in terms of staff friendliness and hotel location. But i was terribly shocked to find later that the guest room arranged for me was fitted with window of opaque glass on the lowest floor! This really ruined my mood and thought if there was any wrong with my booking! My booking was made a half year ago with a request for a room on a higher floor (if possible), which i understand is not guaranteed! Just wonder to know your principle to arrange the room for a guest, maybe in consideration of the price, date of booking, place of origin of the guest........
8,3 Excellent
Pros: good breakfast
Cons: buffet lunch a little disappointing
5,8 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: A bit worn out and dated.
7,5 Good
Pros: Great location, right next to Kanazawa train station. Staffs were very friendly, and accommodated to all of our enquiries. Rooms were serviced every day with great care to details.
Cons: The room is slightly small for the given price. Bathroom is a bit cramped.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location near the railway station was very convenient, with no negative impacts from being close to trains. The beds were comfy and amenities good.
Cons: The positioning of the chairs and table is awkward in some rooms - right up against one side of the bed. No gym or pool.
7,5 Good
Pros: Nice location
Cons: Staffs are not very nice, luggages were put in room before we checked in, it’s nice. Very convenient location, easy to catch the train and bus.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: It was just in front of JR Kanazawa Station. I used the hotel on business but it was great place to enjoy Kanazawa as a fine sightseeing city.
Cons: Just little bit dark anywhere in the hotel. I was happy if the bath room was roomier.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location. Ofuro is a must.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Hotel was very nicely placed. It is easily accessible by bus and close to main tourist and visiting attractions.
Cons: There seem to be a crucial difference in booking this hotel (this time) about smoking. Even though we booked a "preferred" non-smoking, the super-expensive golden-week room simply reeked. Hotel claimed to have use special cleaning: mattress smelled super bad and even opening window all the time was barely efficient, it was a nightmare and, clearly, room was not clean.
7,9 Good
Pros: Right next to the loop bus which takes you to station or around the city.
Cons: Room rates were high (at least double the usual rate) ...but it was Golden Week!
7,1 Good
Pros: The staff was great. They haven’t succeeded yet, but they tried hard to resolve a billing mistake that they made. The breakfast is OK, with a reasonable variety, including one of my personal favorites, good chocolate chip cookies. The room was SMALL, but everything functioned well.
Cons: The room was SMALL. There was a line of people literally out to the street when we checked in, but it was Golden Week, which explained the situation. The staff put five people at the front desk and it went quickly enough. But, the woman who checked us in spoke very little English and charged my credit card in US dollars instead of Japanese yen, without telling me. The next morning I saw what she did and complained about it. The staff didn’t really understand what was happening, but they tried hard to fix it. They reversed the transaction and then ran my credit card again and showed me what they were doing. When the screen said touch 1 to pay in yen or touch 2 to pay in dollars I explained that I wanted them to touch 1, which they did. The difference in cost to me was US$41, i.e., I saved $41 by paying in yen. However, unfortunately, I now have two charges on my bill. But I will sort it out with my bank by disputing the first charge. If the staff hadn’t been so willing to try to immediately solve the problem, I would be very upset.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, cafe in the lobby, helpful staff, great location for dining and shopping. Comfortable and large bed for Japan standards, we always love the beds and pillows in APA hotels. Onsen on the roof! We didn’t use it but that’s pretty cool, hadn’t seen it in a city centre budget hotel before. It is close to the garden and castle, which are the main attractions of Kanazawa.
Cons: As is usual for Japan and an APA hotel, the room is small but it’s not an issue, just a little hard to navigate with suitcases. It’s a while away from Kanazawa station, we got a taxi from the station to the hotel which was relatively cheap, only about 1000 yen.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good central location near many of the tourist attractions. The rooms are a decent size for a Japanese hotel, and the sauna facilities on the roof are quite unique.
Cons: I didn't find it a problem, but the area this is in becomes a bit of a red light district at night. Street level is fine, but you might want to avoid venturing into the bars in the higher floors (4th and up) of the surrounding buildings.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location for sightseeing was great. Rooms are small but very comfortable.
5,4 Okay
Pros: The position of the hotel was pretty central and we were capable of going around without taking busses or public transports. The hotel looks modern and there is a big bar in the entrance. Right in front there are several shops.
Cons: The quality of the room was less than average and the cleaningness not perfect. The staff barely spoke English and we struggled to communicate. We choose the Japanese breakfast: worst error ever as we ended up eating in a dirty, lonely and ugly restaurant nearby.
6,7 Good
Pros: Location only couple stops by bus from train station. Very small room but clean and modern.the employees very professional
Cons: The AC is control by the hotel for the cold or heat, couldn’t’ sleep since it was too warm in the hotel. Called the front desk, were fast to respond but couldn’t help. Small location for breakfast and limited with N.A. Foods. Should promote Asian sty’e breakfast
6,8 Good
Pros: Central location to tourist sights and restaurants.
Cons: Room was very compact.

The staff did not speak any English but were very kind and did their best to communicate. The hotel is within a short walk of convenience stores, restaurants, and some interesting shops.
Cons: I was surprised by a high city tax and parking fee. The cost for my stay ended up being over ¥4000 more than the booking.com price. The coin laundry area was also rather filthy and the ice machine did not work.
