Enjoying a peaceful location in the Buer district of Gelsenkirchen, just a 3-minute walk from the town’s shopping area, this hotel offers easy access throughout the Ruhr area. All of the classic-style rooms at the Ambient Hotel Zum Schwan come equipped with a high-definition TV with satellite TV. Most rooms have air conditioning. A 3-star superior hotel, the Ambient Hotel Zum Schwan lies just a 30-minute car journey from the exhibition grounds of Essen and Düsseldorf. Nearby, you find the popular Schloss Westerholt golf club and the Veltins Arena. The Movie Park Bottrop lies at a distance of 15 km, and promises fun for all ages. Small snacks and drinks are available in the hotel’s bistro with terrace, while a variety of restaurants can be reached on foot in 5 minutes.
Pros: Everything was good, the stuff very helpful and the room very convenient! Will return for sure in the future.
Cons: Nothing, everything was great!
Pros: Very clean and well taken care of and friendly staff
Cons: Mattress a bit on the tough side but nice and clean linen Breakfast a little bit too simple but still well taken care of and a clean breakfast area.
Pros: Very friendly staff, clean hotel with parking places located near the hotel.
Cons: Everything was perfect!
Pros: the breakfeat is very nice and location is good. near the movie park and easy to get to other big cities, like Köln. the hotel is near the city center and easy to go to different restruants and Dom. The people of hotel is very nice and helpful.
In a central but quiet location in Bochum, this modern hotel features stylish rooms with a diverse breakfast buffet and a terrace. Bochum Main Station is just 700 metres from Claudius Hotel. Decorated in warm tones, each room at the Claudius includes a flat-screen TV and a desk. Free toiletries, a hairdryer and a walk-in shower are also provided in the private bathroom. Drinks and homemade cakes are served in the trendy bistro with wooden floors and warm lighting. You can also relax with a book in the hotel’s small library area. Enjoy the clubs, restaurants and bars in the lively Bermudadreieck area, approximately 1 km away. The Schauspielhaus Bochum Theatre can be reached in 1.2 km.
Pros: Big and comfy bed in the room
Cons: The hotel is in an almost unreachable pedestrian area, surrounded by general road constructions, which make the access even more problematic. The inner style of the room is very much like a youth hostel, except the bed which was actually big and comfy (at least). The breakfast is in another building, which again, is a youth hostel style. And while at breakfast: at 8.45 am all the warm food (scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon) were already finished. One of the guests asked for a portion of ham & eggs, and even though there were many other guests having breakfast at that time, the lady from the kitchen made really only 1 portion for that guest, not thinking about filling up the whole plate at the serving table. You get strictly 1 cup of coffee or tea, not more. Unless you pay extra for it, of course. That's a cheap style. All in all, this hotel is OK for students for a trip in the region or in the city, but definitely not for an overnight during a business trip.
Pros: Super comfortable bed, beautifully designed room and spacious too. Staff friendly and helpful, albeit a little stiff in their way of communicating.
Cons: The bathroom could have been a bit more logical. While opening the shower door, the bathmat slides away and by that creating a puddle of water and the bathmat to move further away from you. Also no towel rack on the right (actually left) side of the shower door.
Pros: Nice modern style with lots of color. Close to railway and centre. Quiet
Cons: Thermostat was at 28 degrees.
Pros: Quiet, clean, good breakfast
Cons: No tea making facilities
Pros: Nice clean, new hotel. Friendly staff.
Cons: WLAN unreliable, slow
Pros: Absolutely the best hotel I have ever stayed at! Family run hotel, they were SO accommodating, friendly and kind. Room was great, beds were great, the power of the shower was phenomenal (UK ones are often so bad), and it was great to have a fridge in the room. Breakfast was lovely, small buffet that they kept filling up as people arrived. Hot drinks to your hearts content.
Cons: I would have loved to have a kettle in the room so that you could get a hot drink in the evening. Being a tea and coffeee addict, we were really pining for our hot drinks!
Pros: Nice little hotel with nice rooms and beds. Just stayed 1 night to go to Dortmund the next day. Would do it again. Great breakfast with lots of choice and freshly made scrambled eggs and coffee.
Pros: The location is at a walking distance from Ruhr University, Bochum and also from food joints near the university gate. The kitchen is fully furnished. The rooms are spacious and clean. A table fan was also there, which could be useful if travelling during summer days.
Cons: We had to dump the waste in the common dustbin, which was difficult to understand. It would be better if we could only segregate the waste in our kitchen dustbin.
Pros: Everything was very convenient and friendly. Looking forward to come again!
Pros: Small, well maintained hotel in a quiet location. Good breakfast, and nice staff.
Located in Gelsenkirchen, Heiner's Parkhotel is within a 15-minute drive of Veltins-Arena and Alpincenter Bottrop. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
Pros: location was perfect for us--we were on a business trip and it was close to where we needed to be. Breakfast rich and plenty--we also had dinner at the hotel's restaurant as we enjoyed it tremendously--both food and service alike...the vibe is unique as well. This hotel is built on what used to be Cole Mine storage rooms so everything is loaded with history and old pictures of the area 70-80 years ago. The entire place looks and feels new with a wink into the past. We were impressed with the fact that there were fewer rooms only in this hotel, and every room is large and specious, comfortably decortated and welcoming. We will for sure stay there again.
Cons: Hotel immidiate parking is limited and is often taken by people who just come for dinner and drinks. We thought that the fewer parking stalls the hotel has right by the enterance and around it, should be kept solely for people who stay at the hotel. Otherwise there's a parking structrue nearby (not of the most conveninet arrangements, but available) for those who come to wine and dine only.
Pros: excellent breakfast and lovely room. We were attending a concert at the Amphitheatre - which was a 10 minute stroll from the hotel. Past the lovely beer garden. Liked the coalmining theme
Cons: I'm not keen on glass doors on bathrooms.
Pros: New, clean, very modern hotel. Nice modern comfy rooms, good service.
Cons: Nothing to do around. Have to rdive to center or Essen. Train noise
Pros: Super helpful staff. Very comfortable bed & room. Excellent spa. Good food.
Pros: The rooms are very comfortable, quality of food is very good, staff - friendly. The hotel, itself is in kind of industrial zone, but around was quite, except the train passing by in close distance.
Cons: The noise of the passing trains.
With a stay at Schloss Berge in Gelsenkirchen (Buer), you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Veltins-Arena and ZOOM Erlebniswelt. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The breakfest and the bed!
Cons: That i could not pay with my bankcard.
Pros: Breakfast and the service of the lady at breakfast.
Cons: Old school hotel... needs modernisation It is clean but messy
Pros: Customer service
Pros: Friendly and welcoming staff. Nice location and atmosphere. Free parking.
Cons: Breakfast not included. Limited sights in the vicinity (apart from the Schalke 04 football stadium).
Pros: Nice locations with lovely grounds. Friendly and attentive staff as well as excellent food.
Cons: Nothing at all.
Pros: Brilliant character hotel, really nice modern restaurant built on to a classical mansion in formal gardens, a really good find if you are in the area. There's even a bier garden in the grounds, perfect weekend hotel (well positioned for the landschaftspark). The staff are very well turned out, snazzy dressed a 5 star attentive.
Cons: Lots to like, only negative is the distant roar of the autobahn, and the cluttered reception (but that's quite charming in a way).
This country-style hotel is quietly located on the outskirts of Bochum. The Starlight Express Musical is 12 km from Hotel Restaurant Zum Neuling. Bright rooms include cable TV, free Wi-Fi and a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Each one is homelike in style, with pinewood furnishings and soft lighting. Seasonal and regional specialities are served in the hotel’s elegant restaurant, where a hearty buffet breakfast is also available. Drinks can be enjoyed at the well-stocked bar. Guests at Hotel Restaurant Zum Neuling can take a trip to the Kemnader See Lake (9 km) or Bochum Zoo (12 km). Bochumer Golf Club is 4 km away. Free on-site parking is provided.
Pros: Friendly staff and great food
Pros: Frendly staaf, nice room and pleasant restaurang.
Pros: Good breakfast, helpful and friendly staff did help us every morning to start the day with a smile. Easy to reach. Hotel parking place gives enough space. They did help us to store 3 parcels from our exhibition stuff in their private storage.
The Courtyard by Marriott Bochum Stadtpark's location directly at the Stadtpark Bochum and yet in close proximity to the bustling city center mirrors the region's versatility. The hotel in quiet surroundings is yet ideally located near highways A40/A43 and easily reachable by public transport. Once an industrial center the Ruhr has been transformed over the course of the last years and offers sites of industry culture as well as natural recreational areas like parks, gardens and lakes. Take a stroll through the old Stadtpark at our doors or go for a shopping trip at the nearby city center. The Ruhr area is still the place to be for leisure and business trips alike and the Courtyard by Marriott Bochum Stadtpark offers comfortable guest rooms with all amenities you need like our plushy Marriott bedding, air conditioning, HSIA and spacious working desks.
Pros: enjoyed almost everything in this hotel, except the old-fashioned character of the dining room, which requires refreshing, I think. See later ........................................................................................................
Cons: I enjoyed almost everything in this hotel, except the old-fashioned character of the dining room, which requires refreshing, I think. And their magnetic card system to get out of their parking, which required to return to the reception to replace the card (park the car, make the journey, change the card and return to the car), to have the same problem again to get out of the car park again! I had to call via a sos button, to free myself from this barrier. In short their system has a problem.
Pros: Quiet, spacious and clean
Cons: Its 2019, stop charging extra for wifi
Pros: Great location Fantastic stay
Cons: We were send away of a table for four at breakfast, and there were enough free tables.
Pros: Very comfortable room, clean and the shower was great. Plenty of space to store your stuff. Hotel is between two tram stops, just 5 mins from city centre. Excellent for the football stadium and the congress centre.
Cons: We left the room at 13:00 on second day, returned and the room had not been cleaned. Went down for breakfast 30 mins before breakfast closed. There was no warm food available, all trays were empty. Watched a member of kitchen staff check the trays, just walked away and no refills. I do not like muesli, bread etc, which was all that was left available, so all I ended up having was two glasses of pink grapefruit juice. . So paying for breakfast was a waste of time. Also the coffee was not up to much.
Hotel Excelsior Bochum offers inexpensive and quiet accommodation with excellent transport links. The city centre of Bochum with central station and trade fair centre can be reached in about 15 walking minutes. The rooms are bright and comfortable, equipped with 3-star amenities. Some are located in the basement and feature large windows with locks. Carmelo restaurant serves Italian cuisine. In direct vicinity of the hotel you find the Zeiss Planetarium, the stadium, the Ruhr Congress Centre as well as the Starlight Express musical theatre.
Pros: No foreign hairs in the bath room. nice
Pros: Personnel was very kind. Breakfast not satisfying for my needs but was nice. Also the breakfast room was small, but very nice and well arranged
Cons: Reception wasn't guarded in the morning and notes for guests were written just in German
Pros: When I arrived there is no one in the hotel to answer me
Cons: No air condition
Pros: This motel-like property is out of the town centre and has an uninspiring location, but it is quiet and has plenty of parking. Decent breakfast. Good size comfortable room with a desk, and enough chairs. Not too far from the autobahn, so convenient for a stopover. Most of our fellow guests were business people, for whom this would be a decent budget option.
Cons: We had dinner in the adjoining Italian restaurant, which I think is a franchise semi-detached from the hotel (there is a door directly to the hotel, but it has its own independent entrance and car park). Our waitress was rude and offhand, and the food wasn't great either. Regulars seemed to get better service.
Pros: breakfast was good, room was clean
Cons: hotel restaurant was closed, reception was bad, all restaurants in the vicinity were closed.
Pros: Very helpful and friendly staff went out of their way to make it a good stay. The accommodation is spacious and has everything you need. It’s not luxurious, but we were’t expecting that. It’s also very close to the Planetarium U-Bahn, but in a quiet location. The breakfast was good, with lovely fresh bread, cheese, meat, fruit and cooked items and we had no problems with space or availability of food, despite the hotel being fully-booked. Everything is spotless. The Italian restaurant is lovely - delicious food, friendly staff and good prices. We felt we’d made a good choice with this hotel.

Pros: The people in the reception were so kind. Great breakfast. Near to the train station, bars etc. The room was clean they lend towels and a locker with a key before you ask for it. Overall it was great and i was satisfied.
Cons: Noisy working people at 8 o'clock in the morning
Pros: clean room and bathroom, quiet by night, even if it's close to nightlife area, good breakfast
Pros: bus service from air port, water boiler in the room. Internet+computer in the lobby.
Cons: room was too small.
Pros: The hotel staff was friendly when I complained
Cons: Didn't sleep at all. Don't come here if you want to sleep. Noisy the whole night.

Pros: Neat and spacious room with a coffee machine and a kettle, plus some complimentary water. The staff was very nice and there was soy milk waiting for me at breakfast, as requested during booking (doesn't happen often even in Germany for some reason). Perfect hotel to stay when coming over for a show at RuhrCongress!
Cons: Perfect neben starlight express-theater
Pros: Perfectly clean and well-located hotel. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: The "free" coffee machine in the foyer was only for people attending conferences. Seemed a bit mean.

Pros: Enjoyed our stay and were most impressed by the staff, everybody was very friendly, helpful and competent. I would book the hotel again.

The Mercure Hotel Bochum City is just a short walk from Bochum's main train station. The hotel's two modern high-rise towers are an architectural highlight of the city, the upper floors offering spectacular views over the Ruhr region metropolis. And the c harm delivers on what it promises: The Mercure Hotel Bochum City is the only 4-star hotel in downtown Bochum. All 162 Comfort Rooms are air conditioned and have WIFI. You can park your car in the hotel's secure indoor car park.
Pros: Great location, room as good size and all very clean. Staff was friendly during check in/out process. Breakfast had good options and overall very tasty. Easy and straight forward stay, would go back and recommend it.
Cons: Very hot in the room
Pros: Friendly staff, clean rooms, I stayed in December so Christmas market was very near. Nice neighborhood.
Cons: They do not offer shuttle service as stated on booking website, AC was very loud.
Pros: Friendly staff, spacious room, bathtub :). Good location (we needed to take the train everyday so it was perfect, but also it is 15 minutes walking from the center and restaurants). Good breakfast with lots of foods to chose from.
Cons: My colleague left one towel on the floor to be changed and the cleaning lady didn't. It was a minor issue for us.
Pros: Exzellent breakfast.

Pros: Location: Close to the stadium
Cons: Price paid via booking was significantly higher than direct booking via Marriot
Pros: Close to our final destination
Cons: Couldn’t control the temperature in the room
Pros: Very central location and parking for reasonable price. Nice hotel with quiet but little bit aged room. Good restaurant and very good breakfast with light from large windows.
Cons: Room looked a little bit aged and room smelled a little bit.
Cons: A lot of unexpected extra money (10 euro) for a parking spot
Pros: Very nice hotel with best beds in Bochum
Cons: 2 times knock on the door to ask to leave the room, after a well spend night on vacation 8am is too early ( yes we should have hung a no-disturb please sign on the door ) . Other than that it was a perfect stay
Pros: I was there for 2 nights. I don't travel to Europe very much at all so don't have a ton of comparisons. Overall felt like an American hotel except gym was very very limited. Nice staff that spoke English fluently.

Pros: It was quiet while very close to the highway. The bed was quite comfortable.
Cons: It’s quite old and especially the bathroom needs refurbishing. There is no heater in the bathroom. I don’t like sleeping in warm rooms but I like a warm bathroom and there was no way just adjust the heat in the bathroom. They charge for WiFi and water in the room while being overpriced already.
Pros: Very good food
Pros: We loved the spacious room and comfortable bed! We also enjoyed the breakfast. The location was also close to supermarkets and restaurants when you’re driving a car. We also appreciated that the staff were friendly (especially Josephine from the restaurant during breakfast) and spoke English so it was easy to communicate with them. Overall, we recommend this very nice hotel if you plan to stay in Gelsenkirchen! ☺️
Cons: We were surprised that you need to pay for the wifi internet (extra pay) especially if you’re not a member. And there’s no coffee maker (even a simple one) in the room (which is rare for a 4-star hotel).

Cons: Absolutely nothing to dislike!
Pros: Good breakfast, parking and area.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and multilingual staff. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
Pros: The room was comfortable
Cons: We got a room that wasn't cleaned after the lasts guests even though we arrived 2 hours after the start of check-in time. We only found out after entering the room since the reception didn't tell us anything.
Pros: Easy reach of the town but limited parking
Cons: Booked double bed but looked at three rooms all with singles in. No double beds.
Pros: Very clean and comfortable
Pros: Nice staff. Very helpful
Pros: Very clean, good service- towels changed daily without any exceptions. Very nice!
Pros: The breakfast was better than I had expected with bacon and scrambled eggs (and soft boiled eggs), fruits, coffee vendor machine and fresh vegetables. The opening hours of the breakfast area is great.
Cons: The room had a bit of a smell like it used to be a smoking room. The bed seemed a bit uneven. We also hoped there was some lounge area or somewhere you could sit and play games etc.
With a stay at Hotel Schmidt-Mönnikes in Bochum (Waldring), you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Starlight Express Theater and Messe Essen. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Friendly staff and comfy bed.
Pros: Everything. The room was nice and clean and a good size. Breakfast was good with a nice choice including bacon and scrambled eggs as well as the other European choices. Off road parking round the back so the bike was out of sight.
Cons: The fact that there was no internet.
Pros: Location, ease of free onsite car parking, lovely reasonably priced food.
Cons: Small point.I arrived midday Sunday and the reception was shut. I later saw that there is a key drop and the hotel had sent me an E mail during the day whilst I was driving from Berlin. I did not see the message until the evening so had to find somewhere to sit in town until the check in opened at 6PM. I'll know better for next time but it would have bene nice for someone to tell me the check in position at the time of booking months ago, and not on the day itself as I was driving and was unable to see the message.
Pros: The room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful
Pros: very good breakfast, fresh products, calm place, kind people
Pros: easy to find with good parking facility. Good breakfast and lovely restaurant with good evening meal options of a high standard.

Pros: The room was very well designed with a very comfortable bed. The hotel was modern with a Hygge feel to it. Nothing to complain about.
Cons: A hot tub but for the price that would be asking too much.
Pros: Nice airy room with a very comfortable bed. Easy parking.
Pros: Friendly welcome. Excellent beds and superb breakfast. We shall return and stay for longer.
Cons: The parking. Lots of it but a steep climb up to the hotel. Thank goodness they have a good lift. Excellent to keep fit,not kind to the disabled.
Pros: the breakfast was so amazing, i could literally stay there and eat it all day long. bed was so comfortable and warm, the room and bathroom were much bigger than i expected it to be.
Cons: walls were pretty thin, we could hear other people in their room in the evening. one night someone was having a very good time, the other night two girls were yelling at each other.
The Hotel + Hostel Aleo exists in Bochum since 2001. This property is only a short walk from the centre of Bochum. Hotel Alepo offers modern, individually furnished rooms with satellite TV and free Wi-Fi, as well as a hostel with triple and quadruple rooms with shared bathrooms. A hearty breakfast can be enjoyed at the hotel’s café, where a free internet computer is available. There is also a children's playground. Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Underground Station is 100 metres from the Aleppo, offering a direct link to all Bochum's main sights and Bochum University. Essen is 30 minutes away by public transport. Free public parking is available opposite the hotel. The Hotel Aleppo offers easy access to the A43, A1, A40 and A44 motorways.
Pros: Very sweet owners!!! Rooms nicely furnished!
Pros: Helpful staff, it was quiet inside, the underground station behind the corner - although be prepared to have the exact fare and coins.
Cons: It is way too expensive to what it is. The photos of the rooms must have been taken just after the hotel was built - now the room nor the hotel don't look as fresh. The area around the hotel is not nice. Well, the whole Bochum made a surprisingly negative impression on us as of a dark city full of suspicious individuals wandering at night. It was similar to Poland in 1990's. We wouldn't go there again.
