9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful and the rooms were very clean. Simona was helpful and very friendly.
Cons: The nights could be a bit noisy as the bells of the church toll every 15 minutes and the windows are not double glazed.
7,1 Good
Cons: I stayed at this hotel twice before in 2015 & 2016. Things that I loved at this accommodation are no longer offered: beakfast in the past offered greater variety...ham, cheese, breakfast rolls & fresh fruit, which is essential for those of us who are prediabetic or diabetic. Simone explained that sweet cakes are the traditional breakfast served in Italy. Sitting outside for breakfast was also no longer offered, which I truly missed. I couldn't help think that these changes were more about creating less work for the person in charge and cutting costs. Sad to see because it had an impact.. The noise level from the next door bar/restaurant made sleeping difficult. You were lucky if you fell asleep before 1am. Lastly, I was told I was unable to store small items in the fridge, something I greatly appreciated in the past, especially given the high temperatures. Ultimately, my experience was very disappointing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: we came with the car and it was very easy to park the car in a parking place about 7 minutes walking. The accommodation is very much in the center. The crew was very friendly. The room is very clean
Cons: To hotel is so much in the center that it is near to the church. The church bells make some noise in the night. They give some ear plugs to reduce the noise.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful charming little spot. Clean, comfortable, central (in the historic center) and we had our own little patio with a table and chairs. Would absolutely stay here again.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Delightful stay and helpful staff.
10,0 Excellent
Cons: Location was excellent and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating - highly recommended!!!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good, the young lady who checked us in and served breakfast was lovely and friendly. Gubbio is so full of authentic Italian charm.
Cons: Would have preferred to be in the main hotel building and not have to access our accommodation via steep concrete steps next door. Room a little stark a few homely touches would make it more relaxing.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Simple room and bathroom, but fine for price
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Grand stylish and very comfortable accommodation. Delightful friendly and extremely helpful host. In a central location in the historic centre.

Castello Di Petroia - Gubbio - Bedroom
2
9,3 Excellent (212 reviews)
R2 709+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Castello Di Petroia Relais in Gubbio, you'll be 10.4 mi (16.7 km) from Cathedral of Gubbio and 10.5 mi (16.8 km) from Piazza Grande. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. This guesthouse has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: 11th century castle beautifully restored & updated. Family owned & run with staff who make you feel like family. Heartfelt hospitality. Wonderful breakfast served with love by Isabella. Terrific restaurant for dinner with an excellent Matre di, Paolo. Chef will try to accommodate special requests. Bucolic countryside with terrific views.
Cons: Not much, except perhaps the 1 mile of unpaved road to the property.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room. Excellent breakfast. The castle is very special. We felt like nobility (just a bit and for far to short a time). A special time to be remembered.
Cons: A bit remote. We were visiting a lots of towns and villages on this trip.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I'm a fan of castles and lets face it, some castles aren't "real" castles. Castello di Petroia is a "real" castle. It's also a luxury hotel out in the beautiful Umbrian hill country. The breakfast was outstanding and the dinner was awesome. The rooms are what you would expect from a luxury hotel. The staff was awesome and goes out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. We had to leave early our last day to catch a flight (before breakfast) and the staff made sure we had whatever breakfast things we needed before we left. My kids really enjoyed the resident cats. The pool was wonderful since we were in the middle of an unprecedented heat wave all over Europe. I wish the weather would have been nicer (not 40 C) as there are many trails I would've liked to explore.
Cons: If only we could fix global climate change so that we don't have 40 C days in June. That said, I have nothing negative to say about anything humans can control at Castello di Petroia.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We particularly loved the view from our bedroom window. It was surreal. The morning fog blanketed the hills and was pierced only by the occasional Italian Cypress and morning crow of a nearby rooster. We watched the fog lift as we drank our coffee. It was an unforgettable morning. Dinner and breakfast both were fabulous, with dinner being served in the on-site restaurant and complimentary breakfast being served in another area. We also appreciated the large desk that easily accommodated both of us as we did have some work to do while on our trip.
Cons: We would have loved to have had a coffeemaker in the room. When we travel we enjoy waking up and making our own coffee right away.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, had dinner in the Courtyard which was magical. Had a slight issue with our room which was dealt with in a quick and efficient manner. The staff are extremely helpful- not often you say that.
Cons: Nothing.
7,5 Good
Pros: Friendly and helpful owner and staff. They will to find restaurant for guest for lunch. Very kind of owner, they send and fetch us, WITHOUT ANY CHARGES, without paying. Good place to stay and have good garden. We will come back in this hotel and recommended to Asia people to stay there.
Cons: The place is a bit far and in middle of nowhere, but the owner is very very helpful, friendly and kind. No various food for asia people, all food are same,
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were amazing, really big. The bathroom has a jacuzzi, so it’s very comfortable. The property has a really good pool, a little far from the main building, but with an amazing view. But the best part was the restaurant. The most amazing food I’ve ever eaten. They have a menu full of dishes with truffles, so you can imagine how amazing the taste was.
Cons: The pool is a little far form the property.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff here are exceptional in every way. Friendly helpful and always available. We ate dinner here both nights. Very good food and a nice atmosphere as well as excellent service. The location is wonderful and the experience of staying in a castle is authentic.
Cons: Not a dislike but one thing really missing here is a bar or lounge to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink when it's too cool outside. There is one room but just with wooden table and chairs so not so comfortable or atmospheric.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This was a fantastic stay. From the excellent reception at the front desk to the breakfast and dinner staff all were responsible for making it a great stay. The restaurant food and atmosphere outstanding! The grounds and rooms of this castle and property amazing with views for a relaxing stay. If you have the time while traveling through the area a must!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and serene location, especially surrounded by wilderness and farmland. Old castello building was a very special place to stay. Staff were friendly and accommodating, with good English language as well. An excellent restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious dinner, the truffle gnocchi was a stand out as was the chicken liver pate with onion jam. Cute castle cats as well!
Cons: Nothing

Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We love how peaceful and quiet the hotel is. The rooms are cool although a little dark. We love the food there which is very high quality.
Cons: When we booked for dinner we weren't asked if we wanted to eat outside and so when we went to dinner and wanted to eat outside it seemed to be a bit of an issue for them. We did eventually get an outside table but we felt a bit annoyed about being kept waiting while they phoned reception to discuss it.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: A tasteful conversion of historic buildings into a luxury hotel. Room well appointed and comfortable. Service in the restaurant was friendly and efficient.
Cons: The Ai Cappuccini is primarily geared for the conference trade and certainly when we were there the result of several conference / business groups was rowdy drunks in the corridors late into the night. Luckily were had a room at the very end of our corridor we were not imune. Regretably, conference trade, which is good income, doesnt always match with expectations of the star rating.
7,1 Good

10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was just the most glorious hotel. I wish I could have stayed longer
Cons: N/A!

Pros: Beautiful lobby
Cons: Noise! You hear every sound in neighboring room... every ... even murmuring. Change the doors at least!!!!!! It’s a huge problem of the hotel!!!! We couldn’t sleep... kids crying, dogs , laughing... nightmare! Breakfast is not Italian at all by quality of food. Coffe is ugly. Main restaurant is closed 14:30-20:00!!! No opportunity to eat in the hotel. Never again( can’t recommend it unfortunately

Pros: The location was excellent as was the breakfast.
7,9 Good
Pros: Beautiful building. Situated in the heart of the old centre. Nice breakfast. Nice beds.
Cons: The pictures all show sweets, cakes and flowers in the rooms. This is misguiding. I found the atmosphere rather business-like, rather than romantic. Also the rooms are noisy. We were notified of every toilet visit from our neighbours.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely old building in central location. Excellent staff. Good breakfast. Comfortable, good size, well appointed room. Patio and gardens very relaxing
Cons: I had pre-paid for the accommodation. The hotel then charged me again, stating that payment had not been made. After some while, they confirmed that actually I had already paid and made a refund. The only blemish on an otherwise excellent stay.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: To be in a quiet Middle Ages castle with only the sound of the bells is so very special.
Cons: There are some stairs to climb, but the attendants help you carrying your luggage to reach the elevator.
7,5 Good
Pros: breakfast outside was lovely
Cons: more use could have been made of the outside rear terrace garden
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great helpful stuff . Place needs a little work , furniture , linens etc Toilet was making a running water noise constantly We had to keep bathroom door closed and it was hot in there
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was as I dreamed. A perfect holiday! Thanks to staff and citizens;memorable experience!
Cons: No unpleasant events,or bad surprises.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Terrific location, big room with interesting furniture, very friendly and helpful staff, magical garden bar areas, overall very comfortable with a lot of character and a great place to come back to at the end of a busy day.
Cons: Shower door was a bit poky and awkward to use, breakfast was substantial and good-quality but would have benefited from more variety from day to day, weather started to warm up while we there but for some reason air-conditioning in hotel wasn't available to use.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Best location in Gubbio. Hotel has character. Excellent breakfast. Nice staff.
Cons: Be prepared for stairs. Rooms on the small side. Parking is complicated.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Internet coverage in room is very bad. Cable tenor working.
Cons: Facilities could have been better.cable tv not working unable to access internet.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: In a wonderful part of the town with little patio areas to relax in and all the main sights are right by the hotel. A great historic building which as been skilfully made into a hotel on many floors with view not to missed from the upper little garden,
Cons: Only draw back is getting a car to hotel, it is in a restricted area and parking some 500M away. Hotel will help but would be nice to be able to drop off and go to parking .
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great location opposite main piazza. What an interesting building! Hidden terraces, gardens and a secret tunnel. Great views across the old town and valley below. Lots of medieval charm. You can have breakfast outside in the piazza which is great. The shower was larger than standard.
Cons: Little bit tricky to get to for first time visitors. Breakfast offering not as good as other hotels we stayed in.

Pros: lovely hotel, nice room, good location....couldnt get a smile from the staff, but you cant have everything.......an excellent breakfast
6,3 Good
Pros: Location and price and breakfast
Cons: It’s an old large building, prob it was the main hotel in town few years ago and now with much more offering difficult to keep all the establishment up to proper level. Still very livable, staff gave great recommendation for food which all proved to be spot on Our room smelled of some sort of spray in an unbearable fashion, we had to keep windows open for 2h to be able to breathe. Not sure when that specific room was used last and what happened there

7,9 Good
Pros: Great location. Good value with excellent breakfast included.
Cons: The room was dark and the couch in our room was tattered.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, history, staff, comfort
Cons: Nothing!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly Staff, free parking in the old town, good breakfast.
Cons: Very basic room, noise from the street during the night.
7,1 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: Several things did not work: bathroom door would not close properly, AC in one of the rooms did not work, no hot water in the shower, shower would not work well.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, beautiful air conditioned room, centrally located, free parking and the best restaurant Boscone Garden behind the hotel overlooking the valley with extraordinary food. Also across the street is a fabulous lunch place run by father who hunts and gathers TRUFFLES and his daughter serves the beautiful meals-- it is called Locanda del Tartufo. Highly recommended.
Cons: All went according to plan
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location is ideal, middle of the main attractions. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Had a storage room for my bicycle. Breakfast is a good buffet and the room quiet. Parked at the funivia lot for no charge on lower levels. Building is impressive and stately. Associated restaurant was good and gave a discount to guests.
Cons: Room and bathroom were small, though the rooms maybe vary significantly. Bed was firmer than I prefer.
7,1 Good
Pros: The location was great and breakfast was excellent choice.
Cons: The WiFi was a shocking situation, clearly it’s an ongoing issue and there’s a trick to getting connected... only one staff member knew the trick. It might be an idea if all staff knew the secret to connection, it’d save all kinds of moaning and irritation at the reception counter... just saying.
6,7 Good
Pros: The location is great right in the upper city center of Gubbio.
Cons: The room was in badly need of renewal. Everything just gave a feeling of 'old', the bathtub had scrapes, no window in the bathroom and the aspirator was missing. After all not a 4 stars experience. Breakfast was just average.

6,3 Good
Pros: Location was great, the on-site restaurant was amazing with all products locally sourced and staff was really friendly.
Cons: Facilities need serious updating. The staff was difficult to get hold of as always been called away and I felt like I was left waiting around for them or needing to go in search of. The swimming pool was open for public use and not just for the guests. And it was mandatory to wear a swimming cap (not a fan!)
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location. Amazing views! Great breakfast...
Cons: N/A
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place with excellent view.
4,2 Okay
Pros: We were here some years ago and we loved it! Now this place are in a decay and Mr Giuseppe and his wife doesn' seem to care any more!?
Cons: Breakfast was not at all as it used to be! Frankly it would have been better if they stopped serving it! We payed 110 Euro/night and for that price one deserves a much better breakfast!!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location, staff were excellent the view was fantastic the food is great recommend highly the restaurant.
Cons: Being non smokers the second you enter the reception and the door to your room there was a strong smell of smoke
4,7 Okay
Pros: Clean rooms, panoramic view, internet in the rooms
Cons: Faro Rosso isn't actually a hotel. It's a well-known rural domain, especially for the locals who drive in en out all the time. The photo's you see are not realistic. For example the swimming pool isn't a hotelpool, but a club where all the locals (especially youngsters - schoolkids) visit the public pool (entrance 5 euro) jump in the water all the time with a lot of noise. Forget the tranquility of the nature... . At the reception they don't know nothing about hiking and cycling, although they mention this in their brochure. As hotelguests we had dinner in the restaurant, but had to pay 6 euro for the "bread & coperto" ! As a external visitor, OK, but as hotelguests ?? Faro Rosso is a complex where hotelguests are not priority to the staff
6,7 Good
Pros: quiet location beautiful views over Gubbio plenty of scope for walking in countryside and able to visit places of interest by car on relatively quiet roads
Cons: was not a problem for us but may have been for families no mention when booking that swimming pool was being renovated so was closed ? when will reopen
6,3 Good
Pros: Wonderful location, good food.
Cons: Accommodation area entrance and stairwell a bit bleak. Bedroom smelt strongly of bleach.

Pros: The room was fine. The hotel is on the outskirts of town which was fine for us and there is parking at the front. The staff were helpful. Perhaps a little more variety at breakfast would have been good.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: A good, fairly convenient to the town centre hotel. Friendly staff

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location
Cons: Pool was not usable and we were only informed about this on our day of arrival Internet and wifi do not work in the rooms
7,1 Good
Pros: Its an old historical villa with great views at Gubbio on the opposite hill.
Cons: The hotel has lost a bit of its glory, must be difficult to maintain such a big old building. We were at the end of season and there was no terrace or restaurant and the swimmingpool was with old stuff. Nevertheless a remarkable stay for one night.
7,1 Good
Pros: The property itself is tucked away from the town providing a serene, quiet location that has a truly rustic feel to the public areas, receptions etc. The gardens have a fantastic view and is only a stones throw from the restaurants of the main town. The staff are lovely and the breakfast includes everything that you would expect. The rooms were well kept and, for the most part, clean and tidy.
Cons: Everything seemed a little old. There is a difference between 'shabby chic' and just old. The bathroom, for example had some old stains that really should have been renovated by now. Bed seemed a little hard too if I was being fussy.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location was good , a quick drive to Gubbio and the bed was comfortable to sleep in.
Cons: The breakfast wasn't adequately topped up & the tables not cleaned. The shower in the room was broken & the water pressure kept disappearing ie no water. The restaurant only had a very limited menu ie only steak & veal so we didn't use it for this reason . The Swimming Pool wasn't available & didn't look like it would be for some time & this was early June when all the other hotels had pools available.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The building is beautiful and the rooms are huge and the bed is comfortable.
Cons: The pool was crowded with teenage locals who did not stay at the hotel, we (the guests of the hotel) could hardly use it, they were shouting so loud that it was impossible to have a rest in the rooms even with the windows closed. Only one receptionist spoke english. A roundtrip to the city with taxi costs 30 EUR, and it is not easy to get one.
7,5 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good. Views were beautiful
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and peaceful stay in Umbria, an old villa used as a hotel, very charming. The view from the room was amazing. The breakfast was very good - a lot of choice. The personal was friendly. There is also an outdoor swimming pool there, but it was closed in September.
Cons: The rooms and bath are old-fashioned, not updated, but it has its charm.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect! Just right in the centre Size of the appart. Facilities. Decoration - simple and white Cleanliness Fast booking. We booked 2 hours before checking in Hostess was so nice. She let us keep our bags in the appart for 2 extra hours after check out We would definitely stay here again
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Lovely setting close to Gubbio, outstanding pool and very helpful staff
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location of the Villa, and the Villa itself. It was very beautiful! Then, the friendly staffs and the food was also very good!
Cons: The size of the bathroom. It was really, just too small. You cannot move at all while showering except for rubbing the body.

7,1 Good
Pros: Beds comfy, pillows comfy, car parking fine! Staff were nice and friendly!
Cons: Overall the hotel inside is very tired, shower door, curtains, and wardrobe door all fell off hinges, adapters dont fit,if you plug in,they are too close to light switches,no info or electric kettle in room as stated! Saying all this,it did not make any difference to our stay!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was charming. Excellent location. Wonderful staff.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was great.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind and the breakfast was delicious. The hotel is comfortable and quiet. It is a perfect place to stay at if you want to explore Gubbio and other settlements nearby, for examle Peruggia, Assisi, Spoleto etc... The hotel has a separated parking place wich is big and safe enough.
Cons: The wifi signal was very weak, in most of the time unreachable in our room. On the corridor and in the hall it was fine.
