Hotel Zugspitze - Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Building
1
9,2 Excellent (1 039 reviews)
R3 502+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Zugspitze, you'll be centrally located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, within a 5-minute drive of Garmisch-Partenkirchen Ski Resort and Richard Strauss Platz. Featured amenities include a computer station, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location is within walking distance to the main shopping area so access to restaurants and supplies are abundant. Easy 10 mins walk to Zugspitzebahn which takes us up to Zugspitze. The free parking lots in front of the hotel can get full during mealtimes but the turnover is quick so we had little trouble getting a lot within a short wait. The daytime reception staff seems more confident with English-speaking guests but everyone working there are polite and try to be as helpful as they can. The in-room coffee machine is a nice feature. View from our room is excellent. Breakfast is sumptuous.
Cons: Apart from the price which is high, which is accounted for by the great location, service and facilities, can’t think of anything to complain about.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly, the rooms were very quiet and the location is convenient to the village center of Garmisch.
Cons: The rooms don't have much of a view, but they are pleasant nonetheless.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was simply lovely. So helpful and kind. Spoke English very well and when my German wasn't making sense (a lot), many could speak English. The breakfast each morning was wonderful including eggs, sausage, and bacon. Location within walking distance to both darling downtown area and train station (taxis at train station) as well as to bus line which we took to and from the Partnach Klamm gorge by the Olympic Ski jump. We had a balcony with a table and 2 chairs and views of the alps.
Cons: The shower/tub was very strange. Hard to get into the tub and then needed to some shut a 2 paneled shower glass door over the tub. Beds were very very firm which I don't mind, but others will.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great views! Great Staff!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very close to the center Heritage hotel
Cons: There is no AC be careful during summer season
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great service, good facilities. Lovely Pool. Friendly staff. Nice restaurant. Lovely breakfast. Just down the road from Rail Sation and Mountain Railway.
Cons: Maybe open Pool at 7am for before Breakfast swim.
7,5 Good
Pros: A nice hotel in the middle of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Very nice breakfast, very nice and efficient staff. The evening meal was very, very good. A creative, still a local kitchen. Full marks!!
Cons: Look at the first picture above and you think it is free standing on a Bavarian meadow, not so! The room should get an overhaul, carpet full of stains, otherwise clean.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly, the food was wonderful and the setting was great. I felt this was the nicest hotel I’d stayed in and I’ve stayed at 5 star hotels in the past. I’d highly recommend this to everyone.
Cons: Absolutely nothing. Loved it!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location in the middle of Garmisch within walking distances to restaurants and shops. From the moment we walked in the door, warm greetings and a tour of the facilities by Frank. Our room had a perfect balcony view of the Zugspitze. The saunas were wonderful too.
Cons: I loved everything about this hotel. Will definitely plan to stay here again.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was absolutely amazing, one of the highlights from my stay.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: This was our favorite hotel during our 13 day stay in Europe. The moment we arrived, we felt relaxed. The room was very comfortable and clean with a large bathroom. The food was delicious-- we had a multi course, romantic dinner at sunset and a huge breakfast the next morning. I was impressed by the variety of foods offered in the buffet-- traditional eggs, pancakes, OJ, etc but they also have a variety of pastries, muesli and yogurt bar with innumerable toppings, cheeses and meats. The view of the mountains is stunning and the hike down to the Partnachklamm should not be missed!
Cons: We failed to read about the parking situation before we arrived-- this was our mistake but future visitors should be aware. You cannot drive all the way up to the hotel. You have to park in a lot just outside the entrance to the Partnachklamm Gorge and then take a mini gondola up to the hotel. We had some difficulty finding this and ended up driving places that we shouldn't have!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Superb view and location. Greatest mountain view from the room. Nice spa. Nice F&B. Almost perfect.
Cons: If only there is a swimming pool. And kids could be boring as SPA is for adults only and there is nothing could play for little kids.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The most wonderful hotel, the best we have ever stayed in!!! Everything from start to finish was first class, the room, staff, food, location all excellent. You access the hotel via a small cable car with spectacular views over the gorge. I honestly cannot say enough about this hotel - you have to come and see for yourself!!! Well done to the hotel owners and all their staff - keep up the good work!
Cons: I wasn’t keen on the open plan bathroom! I do like a little privacy, however the view whilst having a shower to the mountains beyond was fantastic!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, cleanliness, excellent breakfast and breathtaking views
Cons: Since its not allowed to drive to this property, taking the heavy suitcases up and down using the gondola was challenging and tiring. Little help was offered by the staff for this purpose.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great!
Cons: Dinner took quite a long time and the waitress was not as friendly as the rest of the staff. It took him like 10 minutes to get us noticed and then like 20 minutes to bring our drinks. Since it was taking sooooo long we got the menu ourselves and he was quite mad and unfriendly because we took the menu. Food was excellent but again it took ages between dish and dish...
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great
5,4 Okay
Cons: The room services
9,2 Excellent

Pros: Setting is unbeatable. Access via small cable car is fun. Half board - four course dinners and breakfasts are superb. Staff very friendly and professional. Bed comfortable. Room modern, clean and spacious. Spa facilities great - worth paying for a treatment. Special table laid for our anniversary which was kind. Highly recommended!
Cons: We stayed in very hot weather - no AC or fan available. Not adults only (inc in the Spa).

Pros: - Location - Cleanliness
Cons: - No in room service at all, reception never answers. - had to open windows (no AC), but then the noise from the street became a problem. - overpriced for the service received.
7,9 Good
Pros: the wine we chose for dinner!
Cons: We had Nature double room ( 325 EUR / night/bb) , which was smaller than we expected. Ref to the restaurant after reading the reviews, we wanted to have dinner here. I gave up other restaurants with good reviews to enjoy a wonderful dinner at the hotel; Unfortunately the experience was not a pleasant one, because although we were initially told that there are no places, we were eventually offered a table; I found out later that there were plenty of empty tables that evening. Dinner was below expectations, for example, I ordered a tuna steack that came in insufficiently cooked (my belief is that it was removed from the freezer and put on the grill); we expressed our dissatisfaction with the dinner, and the waiter who served us told us that in that evening the chef is not in the kitchen and that probably the one who takes his place is not as skilled! Also I have to mentioned that I received a glass of wine with traces of lipstick on it. After we finish the dinner, we kindly asked to bring our wine glasses on the terrace but he refused us because he did not offer services on the terrace in that evening, because during the day had probably rained 30 min .( as we noticed) .. so complicated ...... we were disappointed considering the high cost of this hotel and especially the reputation;

Pros: The location would normally be considered very good, as it is near the old section of Partenkirchen; however, our room was above the restaurant/Biergarten, and the facility is close to the town church, which has a loud, ringing bell.
Cons: Please see above re the noise factors.

Pros: Location, breakfast, view, restaurant . Great biergarten and Bavarian night twice a win the restaurant. Comes with bus pass which was super convenient.

Pros: Very helpfull staff, free parking right in front of the hotel, very good breakfast
Cons: No mini-fridge in the room, no A/C
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was quite attractive boasting a typical Bavarian facade. The room was very large with high ceilings and two large windows allowing for ventilation and natural light. There was ample closet and storage space to unpack. The front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. The location was in the heart of old town Partenkirchen and surrounded by an impressive selection of restaurants. Cable cars/ ski lifts to mountain tops and a variety of hiking trails were a 15 to 20 minute walk from the hotel. The quaintness of the area can be summed up by noting that every morning we were gently awakened by cow bells as the cows spotted to drink at the fountain right outside the hotel on their way from the stable to pastures up in the mountains. Finally, breakfast was included and was delicious with multiple choices from scrambled eggs to meats and cheeses to fresh fruit, homemade jams and muesli.
Cons: Nothing.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: I am an American and was traveling for fun with my family. Blindly booked this hotel on booking.com. This hotel was the perfect European experience. It was not like a Hilton, it gave you a true German experience. I love the staff and the hotel was so pretty with amazing mountain views. If you are an American traveling and want a true German experience book this hotel! Also very walkable to the city center with all the food.
Cons: No AC in the rooms but if weather is nice you are fine with windows open.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: This hotel location offers an outdoor patio for breakfast dining with a breathtaking view of the Alps! I could drink my coffee here every morning. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating of our late night arrival. Parking was free and easy to locate. Easy walking distance to the central downtown and the park. Quiet area with good restaurants right around the corner. Room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: Everything was to our liking. Would return and recommend to friends!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: This Traditional Bavarian hotel is excellently located a short walk to the centre of Garmish with fabulous views of the mountains from our balcony room 43, staff so friendly and attentive and great breakfast from the terrace with a view of the Zugspitze!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful hotel! My room even had a balcony... I wasn't expecting that! And the view from the balcony was so beautiful. Everything from the lovely decor to the friendly staff exceeded my expectations. Breakfast was delicious as well... Sitting in their gorgeous breakfast room gazing at the alps was such a great way to start the day.
Cons: This hotel was great... I can't think of anything that I didn't like. The constant church bells were distracting (the ring every 15 minutes) but I got used to them over time.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location - about a 5 minute walk to the downtown pedestrian area. Very nice hotel in a pretty setting. Good breakfast with many choices.
Cons: The typical European mattress on a wooden base is a bit firm for my tastes. No A/C could result in some pretty warm rooms in the summer. The road leading to the hotel (Loisachstrasse) was under construction at the intersection with route 23 in early June. I would check out Google maps ahead of time to find the alternate route to the hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a beautiful place and it's in the middle of the city. The hotel staff was very polite and humble exceeded my expectations. Got a good room with mountain view and the breakfast was superb! Hotel staff gave us tickets for the buses so din payed anything. If you interested in biking .. hiking.. you can rent bike and climbing stuff also. Near by is middle of city which has all daily need items , restaurants, shopping stuff like clothes , souvenirs, electronics and many more. 30 mins bus ride to eibsee lake . The mountains is very close to this place. I really like to thanks all the staff who were very professional and humble for service. 4,2 Okay
Pros: Free bus pass to town is provided by Reception.
Cons: I booked a room in this hotel some months ago, only upon arrival to be told that we were being placed in a room in a different building across the street. I was not told this would happen - if I had been, I would have cancelled and booked elsewhere. The room itself was quite spacious, but very noisy - the road outside is a main through road, with cars, trucks, motorbikes and tractors all day and night. It's a longish walk into town, and the air quality is very poor, so use the free bus service. There is no air conditioning so having a window open is the only choice. There was a dvd player in the room, but this was useless as there was no remote control. The room lacked the usual folder of info about the hotel, the area, etc - would have been useful as crossing the road to ask a question at Reception wasn't easy. Breakfast was disappointing - items were slow to be replenished, if at all, and dirty plates were not collected, leaving customers sat amongst piles of plates and bowls.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Room 109 was smallish but charming, with one complete wall being a window, which was nice, and it did not face the street so it was quiet enough if the door to the balcony was closed. There is no air conditioning in the room. The front desk staff was very helpful with everything, including selling us Zugspitze tickets. The breakfast was OK, not anything really special, but it had a broad selection. We ate dinner in the restaurant twice, the second time having only a large dinner salad, which was exceptional. Overall the hotel’s price/value relationship was excellent.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful hotel, short walk to centre of the town with restaurants. All the staff is very helpful and friendly.

5,4 Okay
Pros: Easy to get on free hop on/hop off bus in front of hotel. Potential for decent views in right room but my view was Partially blocked with adjacent building. Staff is friendly.
Cons: Pool wasn’t what I expected- was right next to dining area so no privacy, also I think you enter from dining room. Privacy fence would take care of that real quick. Pics are deceiving. Cars on main road loud so could not sleep well as with no AC needed window open. Bring your own toiletries as there’s just one all purpose soap dispenser in shower. Have to catch the bus to go to main part of town. For the price it just wasn’t equivalent to other places in Europe. Bathroom needed bleach for urine smell
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Friendly service Liked the breakfast and the dinner Stayed here before and will be back
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was probably the cleanest hotel I’ve stayed at in a long time! It was spotless, we were super impressed! We loved the view from the balcony! This was a great stay! Comfy beds, good breakfast, exceptionally clean room! Highly recommend!

Pros: Every thing was great .. except the food

Cons: Very small room.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Location good. Great balconies with views over GaPa. Free parking. Lunch at the restaurant was good.
Cons: Breakfast comparatively expensive so we didn’t have it. Rooms basic and smallish. No AC or fan so needed window open, however, balcony overlooked beer garden which (despite being closed in the evenings) was used by other guests to drink and talk late at night.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Breathtaking view first of all. The rooms are cosy and the breakfast restaurant and outside patio are nice. Very friendly staff. Klatterveld (tree top climbing) is just up the hill and we had lots of fun there (kids from 6 YO).
Cons: The little reception area could need some touching up - first impression when I entered was a little dubious. Also no shampoo in room - would have been nice to have.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The views from our balcony we're breathtaking! Excellent breakfast, comfy bed, very friendly, spotlessly clean and helpful owner with good English.
Cons: The bar and restaurant were closed when we stayed as it was early in the week. Missed out on enjoying dinner and drinks on the wonderful terrace! For me personally, I would only stay here with a car as it is a bit out of town.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: every thing, and the staff
Cons: nothing
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The view is spectacular, very nice room and bathroom.
Cons: Downside is the stairs and the fact that there is no one on the reception somedays, we needed forks and knifes for some food ans could not get it.

Pros: An excellent choice for staying in this area!

Pros: I stayed at the Bavaria Hotel for 4 nights. The place is beautiful. It is just beautiful. Everything looked pretty, the lobby, the rooms and the breakfast area. You just feel that you are in an old beautiful well maintained house in Germany.
Cons: However, I visited in the Summer and it was REALLY hot. There is no air-conditioning system and the hotel does not provide fans. I opened the windows at night so that I can sleep but my room was filled with insects. They were everywhere . There were bugs on the towels and when I screamed my neighbor knocked at my door to complain because the walls are not soundproofed. So i bought a fan! A very basic and limited breakfast was included in my room rate but it did not look tempting even to my empty stomach. The scrambled eggs looked funny and the bread did not look fresh. I wanted some tea and the person who was cleaning the tables with her hands grabbed the tea pot and two of her fingers were inside the pot and that was it. I did not want that tea any more and I decided to skip breakfast after that. in terms of location, the hotel is 10 minutes walk from the main train station but a bit far from the old town. I won't stay there again
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent, mainly healthy breakfast. Excellent service by staff. Nice garden and lounge. Excellent location in quiet road close to town centre.
Cons: No opportunity to make tea for oneself in bedroom or elsewhere. Plasticky feel of under-sheet.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and made us feel super-welcome. Really nice location (actually perfect). This is a boutique style hotel, and not a big branded type - which made service in this case seem better and more personal. Breakfast was good - every morning the same though.
Cons: Our room was right next to the kitchen. In the mornings (early) you could be woken up. Room-door was sound-proofed. This potentially could only be a problem for this one room as it is the only room in this area, however again not too much of an issue (you want to wake up early anyways, right...:)?
6,3 Good
Pros: Good helpful stuff Private parking
Cons: Small room
9,2 Excellent
Pros: I had a fabulous stay. The reception staff were extremely helpful and forthcoming. The breakfast area was beautiful with a gorgeous veranda and gardens. The buffet was delicious with regional and organic food and the lovely lady serving coffee knew exactly what coffee I have every morning. The spacious room was very clean, quiet, and had everything I needed. I can highly recommend this hotel and will be back!
Cons: If anything, the mattress was too hard for my liking, but I guess that’s a personal preference.
7,9 Good
Pros: Close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen center ans spacious rooms. Clean rooms.
Cons: There’s no lift. If you have many bags make sure to stay at first or ground floor. Quiet old building and rooms
9,2 Excellent

Cons: Nope

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine. The hotel is very well situated, near a bus stop and with the free bus passes available to visitors this made travelling about most convenient.
Cons: I little more 'housekeeping' would have been welcome but this is not a complaint
9,4 Excellent
Pros: It's obviously family-run, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The walls were thick; we couldn't hear our neighbors, and they couldn't hear our screaming 18-month old. Breakfast was probably the best value -- all included and absolutely delicious.
Cons: You can't blame the Almenrausch for this, but it was terribly hot when we visited, and like most European hotels, there's no A/C. Opening the windows helped a little, but the way the rooms are laid out, there's no crossflow of air unless you open the door to your room, which isn't really an option. Just FYI if you're accustomed to A/C and you're visiting in summer.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were met with smiles at check-in. Breakfast was very good.

Pros: Location
Cons: They didn’t have flexibility
7,5 Good
Pros: The location and staff were very nice.
Cons: We stayed here before and loved it. It was charming and the dinning was excellent. It was not disclosed there was was a major remodel going on. It impacted our stay. The dinning area was so small and no bar area. It was so hot you could not enjoy our meal. I feel there should have been some compensation for the inconvenience and noise we had to put up with. Our room did not have a refrigerator or in room safe. Very run down. I am sure our room is on the remodel list. Hopefully it will be nice when completed but it will have lost its charm. If modern is what you want while in the mountains this could be your place.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: -beds were very comfy, plenty of pillows and soft bed -bathrooms were spacious -bath robe -great breakfast, a lot of options and it was included -friendly/helpful staff -5 minute walk from downtown -Pool was great -steam/Sauna was great
Cons: -WiFi was intermittent and slow Telekom, repeatedly got disconnected if I closed my phone -we were there in September, a lot of renovations and construction going on I wasn’t aware of but thankfully not too distracting
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, great staff. Best breakfast we've had in Germany. Amazing location.
Cons: It's not very modern, looks quite old and not as good as the photos.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: We loved how convenient the location was 5 minutes to pedestrian downtown district and 8 minutes walk to main train station/Zugspitz station, and 8 minutes to walking trails. Lovely breakfast included in sun room, nice amenities - spa, sauna, pool, and gym. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Cons: Beds are hard, and decor is a little dated, but not offensive. We arrived prior to check in and they made us wait a few hours to officially check in - not unexpected. However, their accommodation for holding luggage leaves you with reservations. Instead of housing the luggage in a secured location we were instructed to place it in an unused conference room that anyone could walk into. We trusted it would be sufficient monitored and we did not encounter an issue - the set up is unusual in my experience.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Really great location and the room was nice and roomy. The breakfast was really good as well. The swimming pool was nice, not as big as I thought it would be.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Room good. Staff friendly.
Cons: Swimming pool are too hot to use

Pros: Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Nice breakfast.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good and spacious rooms, nice breakfast and good location. Many restaurants are nearby, also there is a restaurant at hotel, but we did not try it. Even they declare there is no parking place, but there is a place in their yard for few cars. Just ask for it - if place will be available you might get it for free.
Cons: There is no A/C in the room, but at least for us it was not needed even one day was really hot.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is an excellent hotel in a great location. The staff is excellent and friendly. The breakfast had an excellent selection and the server was very efficient and friendly. The Restaurant had a very good selection of food and it was excellent. All the waiters were excellent and friendly. A beer garden in front of the restaurant also was another nice feature. Parking was free on the property and garages were available for an additional fee. The room had a comfortable bed and nice shower. The balcony was a plus and provided beautiful panoramic views of the center of Partenkirchen and the mountains. Has an elevator and refrigerator, which all are added bonuses. A special music program was provided free of charge on Sunday afternoon for all in the restaurant and beer garden. We plan to stay here again.
Cons: No negative comments.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at Riessersee 8 years ago and really enjoyed returning. It's fair to say that nothing has changed since then with the decor but is a very clean and comfortable hotel with great facilities. Location is fantastic with great views of the Zugspitze and down into Garmisch. Restaurant and bar on site so no need to leave the hotel if you're looking for a relaxing holiday or alternatively a perfect place to base yourself and enjoy everything the area has to offer.
Cons: We booked two rooms as we have two young daughters. Prior to arriving we contacted the hotel to ensure the rooms were next to or close to each other which they confirmed they could do. When checking in at the hotel, we were advised the rooms were in completely different buildings which they then charged us an additional 20 Eur per night to have two rooms opposite each other.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The staff the next morning was very nice and the breakfast was clean and tasty and the staff were friendly.
Cons: The hotel is excellent, clean and quiet but there is a woman staff at reception very Bad to talk and treated us insulted and would not repeat booking at this hotel because of them.

Cons: The room is old and there's no water kattel I ask the reception for it they told me to go to the lake cafe shop and order hot water from there

Pros: The property itself is beautiful. Our room was clean and very nice. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was absolutely incredible. If you want to explore Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you’re close enough to walk. It’s about a mile into town along a pathway that leads directly into town from the hotel. Highly recommend this place!

Pros: The hotel is very nice and view is fantastic. I love to visit again. Very easy to access all the Bavarian City. We drive 1-2Hr to get hot place.
Cons: Short of parking, but still able to get underground parking after not able to get parking at ground floor
10,0 Excellent
Pros: First visit and we were amazed at the beauty of the facility and the surrounding area! We had to make a last minute reservation somewhere in garmish for a single night and found reissersee online. What a pleasant stay!
Cons: Nothing at all!
7,9 Good
Pros: We enjoyed the location, town was 5 min away but you could enjoy hiking trails right from the hotel. The view was great and it was very quiet at night.
Cons: The facility showed some age, but was still a nice place to stay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Pool was fabulous! Rooms were great!
Cons: Breakfast was like eating with cattle. Would prefer ordering a meal.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: nice big hotel half way on the mountain, a little far away from the town, with several different buildings, which are linked together. the reception was in haus C and our room was in haus A, it took us a long time look for the way to haus A, and we cannot find it. we have to go back to the lobby and ask the stafffor help. even the staff took a hard time finding the way to haus A, with some detours...the breakfast and the dinning room was nice and beautiful. the room was big and tidy. the most funny thing was, our room was on 2nd floor, but when I open the door to go out to the balcony, I found myself on the ground at the back of thebuilding, which means I can just walk out to the road and parking place.
