Looks great from outside.
Needs major updates. Staff not that attentive. Food was poor.
The hotel is a beautiful throwback to years gone in the italian riviera and has a lovely charm about it. Some facilities are newish and clean and look good however see below for what lets it down.. It has ambience and charm - lots of steps though no lifts so be careful if you need to take lots of luggage. Decent breakfast.
Waited for 20 minutes before greeted at check in - the lady then wen tot leave our passports on top of reception desk to show us to rooms and didn't like it that I asked to place them secretly or return until later time. In fact was very rude then following this. No explanation of hotel and rooms need a lot of updating to get them looking fresh - mould on some walls in our room and handles missing from wardrobes etc. The hotel was obviously beautiful in its high days but now very run down - the external features and new pool however do go someway to making up for the lack of maintenance.
The location was nice with lovely restaurants along Gardone riviera.
We booked what looked like a high spec junior suite but on arrival when the front of house opened our booking we were taken to a basic room room. We disputed that we had paid significantly more for the better room which they knew. We were then told the reason they tried to hide this and put is in a sub-standard room was because the junior suite wasn’t available for the duration of our stay and that we could only stay there for 2 nights as other guests would be coming and that we would then be moved to a standard room (even though we had booked the junior suite for 4 nights weeks in advance). The junior suite was very average - no complimentary water, very limited toiletries and no hand towels until half way into our holiday. We had been looking forward to the spa bath but this did not work despite reception saying that someone would come to fix it when we first reported it on the first day. None of the electric sockets worked either or the shaver plug so we were left with dead shavers and electric toothbrushes. Breakfast also very average with the majority of the time having to ask for something as the buffet was empty. Reception staff were generally very rude when we tried to sort things out and when we asked to cancel the last few nights so we could go somewhere better the hotel refused, despite us asking numerous times and even booking.com requesting this on our behalf! Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.... it is grossly overpriced and not value for money at all.
The View was breath taking - the property outside good - inside Bedrooms -especially- terrible - Frig did not work - Telephone did not work - Hair dryer Broken - no light in Shower very dangerous - no draws to put undies - socks - etc., in just a Wardrobe - Balcony needed a good sweep and table cloth dirty plus cushioned seating falling to pieces - very sad as this property has great potential but sadly no money has been spent on it and Reception staff do not care when told about the above - they just tell you what you want to hear and do nothing - the SPA is not a SPA and has none of the facilities one would expect from a SPA and the credibility of the person giving supposed massage was laughable - she did not speak English and no certificates on wall and could use an aromatherapy oil that is not suitable for those with Blood Pressure or Diabetics or getting over Cancer. They should have had a form you fill in outlining any problems all SPA's have that - the Hotel had no understanding of this. Also the Hotel is NOT 5 mins from the Lake it is a good 25 mins walk down a terribly steep hill. It cost us £20.00 a day in Taxies - totally not suitable for older people or anyone without a Car - we were so disappointed as the brochure and the internet is totally misleading they are photo's taken years ago not current.
See the above - food was adequate but they never had enough at Breakfast time and Guest went with out or had to complain to no avail as they just did not have enough ordered each day for the Guest levels staying. Evening meals were very average - the staff serving were the best Customer Service the Hotel had - but worked 15 hrs a day and were put in positions they could n0t alter
Waiters tried to make up for the avaricious nature of the owner. Room maids were also accommodating and polite. View was beautiful and hotel had once been a grand villa, now in need of investment.
Waiters (who did everything)including room repairs were overworked. WiFi seemed a huge favour. Rooms falling apart/ dangerous No water in fridges - you had to pay for it except at breakfast. No night reception so early check out was through a fire escape down many flights in near darkness. Inadequate warning as to location of rooms - up many flights of outdoor steps.also fact that a car is essential. A very steep 15 minute walk to reach hotel and downward slope to main road.
