Pros: Niyagama House is the perfect getaway spot in the middle of tea, pepper and cinnamon plantations - it feels like a calm oasis in the middle of a jungle... once you arrive at the lobby, all of your stress is istantly gone! Beautiful and very clean rooms. The staff was very friendly and the food was great (vegan options available). They really care for the environment, so they use many local ingredients, have a fresh water pool etc. We had a massage, which was also really nice. We booked the mini yoga retreat package and did not regret it. Elke is a great teacher - thank you so much! We would definitely come back.
Cons: Not all of the staff speaks English, so at times it was a little difficult to communicate.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The perfect getaway to relax, reboot and connect again! Niyagama House is not only a charming and beautifully designed house but it’s the team that makes this place special. They are there to cater to your every need with such kindness and care. The food is outstanding, yoga and meditation always available and a XXXL pool amongst the trees is just amazing! I would recommend to anyone looking for some TLC!

Pros: Jungle sounds.
Cons: Staff could speank English better.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we stepped in to this beautiful hotel we felt relaxed and made very welcome by the staff and also by Elke. We were given an upgraded room which was stunning, a huge luxurious four poster bed, large en suite and a balcony. The surroundings are amazing, views across to the tea plantation and the forest. The wildlife is plentiful and watching the monkeys is a real treat. The pool is area is quiet, clean & comfortable with loungers and the is pool refreshing. The food is sensational something different every day. The staff are amazing anticipating your every need and yet totally discreet. Rasika’s table decorations are creative & beautiful. Elke you a wonderful person always there to help and advise. We have been inspired by your introduction to yoga and meditation. We could not have asked for more. A truly unforgettable stay. Thank you x
Cons: All totally amazing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This might sound like a cliche, but staying at Niyagama House helped me shift focus and acquire new knowledge that has helped me to get my life back on track. Suffering from severe burnout, my girlfriend and I decided to end our round trip in Sri Lanka here after being recommended the place by a friend. The beautiful surroundings and architecture, extraordinarily hospitable staff, and conversations and yoga classes with Elke gave us a desperately needed fresh start of the new year. And not to mention the healthy and mouth-watering food! Will definitely return again some day.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We absolutely loved our stay here- it was the highlight of our trip in Sri Lanka. Elke is an amazing host, yoga teacher and life coach. The venue, location, food, team etc- everything was just amazing. We can’t wait to come back!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Elle and Prasad were very helpful before and during our stay. Thanks to Elke for preparing the birthday cake for us. It’s a pity that our stay is too short that we can’t enjoy the yoga class with elke. Hope to come back to this beautiful place.

Pros: quite private place, kind staff, clean area, delicious food
Cons: far
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We absolutely loved our stay at Kahanda Kanda. Unfortunately we were only there for the one night but could have stayed much longer. Set in a working tea estate, it’s location is idyllic. Although there are several villas around, we couldn’t see them from ours (Hibiscus) and so felt like we had our own private villa with a beautiful pool. It felt really intimate. To top it off, the food was excellent and nothing was too much for the staff. We couldn’t recommend this place enough!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property is lush and stunning. I loved our villa - we had two huge open bathrooms, everything was eco friendly and there was literally no plastic in sight. The bed was super comfortable, the living space tastefully done and we even had a mini library in our room. Every morning we were woken up by singing & dancing peacocks. The staff were very friendly, efficient and extremely courteous. The food was fantastic -lots of local produce. Totally enjoyed not have TV in the room - we spent evenings in the lobby area playing scrabble/ chess and drinking prosecco. Everything was perfect!
Cons: Mosquitoes and insects. But then its expected as the property is amidst a jungle and tea plantations.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff worked very hard to make it a wonderful break. They couldn’t do enough
Cons: Nothing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff is incredible. Everyone is so sweet and very attentive. While small, the grounds and views are beautiful. The hotel is beautifully decorated and everything was incredibly comfortable.
Cons: The water in the shower was not hot. I also wish the spa was a little more relaxing. It's small, shades closed so you can't really enjoy the scenery, and the lights were on. Would be great to see a little more investment in this space.

7,0 Good
Pros: Right next to a beautiful beach that allows for swimming. Lovely views from the hotel grounds. Mattress comfortable. Property appeared clean throughout. Air con almost a bit too powerful! Staff friendly and approachable. Free breakfast not too bad.
Cons: We were in the family room that really was quite old and dated (although clean). The same problem will exist the whole way along this strip, but the train line directly behind is incredibly loud, with horns starting at 05:30am. Vegetarian food in the restaurant wasn’t great.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The Sri Lankan breakfast (and coffee) was excellent!
Cons: Wished the hotel was right on the dive site
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Nothing special. As already mentioned prices in the restaurant are slightly higher but food is really good and this is not a budget place to stay so I wouldn't count this as a minus - also this way it keeps it from getting crowded. Keep in mind that the place is not exactly in Unawatuna - it is ~2km away from Unawatuna beach and if you want to walk you cannot go all the way through the beaches but have to walk by the road. But of course tuc-tucs are always available for ~300 rupees so not a problem at all - all drivers know the place.

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Great view from the window. Nice breakfast though a bit "formal" compared to other places we found in Sri Lanka. All in all, very positive experience even though the weather wasn't as good as we expected.
Cons: The only negative thing that triggered us was the beach. It wasn't as good to swim as in nearby Mirissa, though the protection from waves could be very good for families with kids. However, the worst part was the tourist behaviour. Having big sea turtles nearby is amazing. How you threat them is not. It's not the direct responsibility of the hotel to protect the nature, but we would really suggest if not having one person arranged by all hotels altogether who would teach some *not so smart* tourists how to behave, at least put some signs in the beach that kindly asks to leave some space for those amazing animals and don't try to touch or put their kids on top of them....
7,0 Good
Pros: Anthony was always there for us to help with anything and with a huge smile and excellent attitude.
Cons: The bedding lacked in a big way. Basically you had a sheet that didn’t even cover the bed to sleep under. They really need a full size flat sheet and thin duvet or blanket to sleep under. There was a fitted sheet to sleep on top of but other than that it was pretty sad.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Staff, especially Antony! He is helpful and hard worker. He makes that place special
Cons: Sound of the waves are to loud. And the owner is so strict.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place, beautiful views and great if you don’t want to be in the busyness of Anawatuna but only a short trip in. Beautiful Wijaya beach at your doorstep and you can swim with wild sea turtles straight out the front. Food was really good and the staff were always so helpful and friendly and the room was really nice, spacious and clean. I’d recommend this place to stay for couples wanting a relaxing beach holiday.
Cons: The only thing that I found a tiny bit negative was that the trains were really quite loud from my room and ran all night. Otherwise it is truly great!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Super Nice staff and great location by the beach !

Pros: Charming , friendly staff
Cons: No clear reception
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere is sublime The staff were personal and attentive The facilities are beautiful The place oozes charm and history There were jars of treats in the rooms: an excellent touch I like that they don’t use single use disposable bottles in the bathroom: this environmentally friendly move is a step in the right direction
7,0 Good
Pros: The ambience of the property and its location
Cons: The booking.com website gave us to understand we would have a flat screen TV in our room. There are no televisions in the hotel whatsoever, not to mention flat screens! This is misleading for potential customers and should be corrected immediately.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff made our visit memorable - Shiroma, Chamara and Kusal deserve a shout out.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, meals, room. Very helpful staff. Great value for money.
Cons: Bed a little short for tall (>185 cm) people bu nonetheless very comfortable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Such an outstanding property and experience from the team, above and beyond in every way. Stunning property, facilities, staff, food, loved it all, will be back and can’t recommend highly enough! And I love that they give you drinking water in reusable glass bottles - no plastic bottles in sight, thank you!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Wonderfully located in the heart of Galle. The staff were polite and very attentive. The Chef was outstanding !
Cons: Lack of facilities . Other than the formal lobby area, and the area around the pool, there was no area to unwind and relax .. put your feet up so to speak. The pool was small and the deck area around the pool could have been more lush and inviting .
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast with a huge choice of Sdi Lankan and Western items. Loved the colonial charm of this beautiful hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Would highly recommend staying at Galle Fort Hotel. The staff are exceptional. The decor is very stylish. Our room the Terrace Suite was very spacious and tastefully decorated. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and the food was of a very high standard.

Pros: The bilding was very impressive.
Cons: The swiming pool was cold. The TV was too far from the bad. They didnt serve alcohol in the bar. Everything was very expensiv (room service, laundray, restaurant)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely perfect! We were staying at an Airbnb next door, and so we first came here for drinks, which turned into dinner. Everything was lovely and in such a beautiful setting, so we decided to return for breakfast the next day, which then turned into us booking a stay! The staff are lovely, and everything property wise is perfect. I’ve already booked a return for in a couple weeks!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Stunning heritage building, beautiful colonial architecture, vintage digs, incredibly spacious rooms, very tranquil and away from crowds, good breakfast, friendly staff, close proximity to Galle fort (not walking though)
Cons: Use of plastic water bottles (please stop!), No free shuttle services to town, services offered are pretty basic (pool and spa) - they can uplevel their offerings a bit and add a few more extras to make the stay more engaging.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: A lovely hotel in a colonial style with a nice decor. Just a few minutes away drive from Galle centre.
Cons: The next door neighbour was burning rubber or something every day especially that the smell would easily travel across the wall where we wanted to relax by the pool.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Good quiet location, short drive outside bustle of Galle city. Beautiful building, very attentive staff, high quality breakfast and lucnh but we didn't have dinner here. The room was stunning and our bathroom in the Captains Suite bigger than some rooms we've stayed in!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was lovely and relaxing with top class facilities. Loved the historic setting. Swimming in the pool whilst monkeys climbed overhead in the trees was a magical moment,
Cons: Everything inside the hotel confines was exceptional, however, the approach to the hotel along the scruffy road could have been better. But that is the one downside of Sri Lanka, rubbish everywhere. Obviously not at or in the hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is classical luxurious hospitality. Old fashioned buildings with traditional styling (and size) coupled with excellent service make this a treat!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Bedrooms were really big and spacious. Beds were very comfortable. Shower was great. Lovely small intimate hotel.

Pros: Very peaceful
Cons: little away from the fort....u need a car or tuk tuk to go to the old town
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Tamarind Hill is a spacious colonial house with wonderful rooms, artefacts, design, space, and feeling. We took a long time to select the right place for us and are certain we made the right choice. It's close to everything you'll need e.g. Galle Fort is 3-mins, etc The staff were fabulous. The food was exceptional Our stay was perfect.
Cons: The pictures on booking.com need to be improved. We overlooked it on our early searches.

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel location is great, but you can not go out and stroll the area, as there are no pavements. You need transportation to go out anywhere.
Cons: Outside of the hotel is in stark contrast to the inside. The road is not safe to walk and very noisy. We tried to walk out one evening and had to return back to the hotel after 30 steps. Also when you are outside the hotel, Tuktuk drivers can be over insistent to offer a ride and can be annoying sometimes.
7,0 Good
Pros: Small intimate hotel. Great staff and swimming pool is good for children. Swimming pool attendant was really helpful and was very attentive for the children's needs.
Cons: It's beginning to look tired as we have visited this hotel for the past 6 years 3 times and it is not as nice as it was 6 years ago.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Super facility. Staff was very nice and we enjoyed every moment of our stay.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Nice boutique hotel in a quiet location steps from the beaches of the Indian Ocean. Staff were very attentive and friendly. And there was a complimentary New Year’s eve dinner with an incredible dessert spread.
Cons: The culinary creations were average. And the price tag of the room was a bit outrageous; however it was over New Years so maybe to be expected.
Main Reef Guest House - Galle - Bedroom
9
9,1 Excellent (136 reviews)
7,0 Good
Pros: Location! This hotel is in an ideal spot especially to surf straight out the front. It’s also in the middle of everything and just a short walk to everywhere in Hikkaduwa and Narigama beach. Plenty of food and drink options as well. The staff at Main Reef were lovely and looked after everyone well.
Cons: We booked the ‘Sea View’ room which shows pictures of a total beachfront room and when we arrived we were put in just a standard room with no view at all. The view from the room was the whole reason we decided to book at Main Reef so to be given another room with no sea view was extremely disappointing :( there are only 2 sea view rooms there and were both taken. Also bedding such as sheets and pillows smelled terrible but that’s what you get for a budget accommodation! Despite all this we were still happy overall with the stay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location , amazing staff who went above and beyond to make our stay awesome , which was brilliant for mum. we had the room over looking the beach great vibes all round.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: Simple, clean and superbly located. Very friendly and helpful staff who treat you more like a friend than a guest.
Cons: Good WiFi, but available only in the restaurant.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean place, located near the beach. You can even hear ocean from you number. Also they have good kitchen and very kind personal.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Right up at the beach, with all the top-rated local restaurants within walking distance (<12 mins). It is listed as a 2-star property and is very no-frills as it should be. The owner is very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Stayed here for 2 nights in the sea-facing delux room on the 1st floor.
Cons: Beach has coarse sand, so if you are like me who can't swim and depend on waddling in the water, you are going to have a bad time.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel resides on the ocean beach. Also, restaurant is in the same building and placed right on the beach sand. Big size of dishes. Friendly owner and staff. Sunbeds are completely free. Owner did advice us couple of famous places near the hotel such as turtle beach and safari. There are supermarket in 3-5 mins, fish and fruit local markets in 10 mins, bus station right near the main entrance.
Cons: You cannot pay via card because owner said that "card machine is broken". So be ready to have some cash in LKR or USD. Hot water is available only during the day, and you have to wash yourself in cold water after the sunset.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was ok Owner mr Ruwan and his staff was extremely helpful and kind! if visit again Hikkaduwa, i will prefer this place!
Cons: Stray dogs on the beach but this happens everywhere in Sri Lanka!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beachfront location, very clean rooms, one of the best breakfasts I’ve had during my trip in Sri Lanka. Very nice and helpful staff and the owner. Definitely would recommend!

Pros: The pool, location and the staff are excellent .Well designed hotel with easy access to beach .
Cons: Mini bar water bottles are unnecessarily expensive ,5 times of their retail value . They provide you with 2water bottles and expect you to survive the day .This is basically impractical and they should make water more accessible and less expensive .Better add more complimentary water bottles .
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious hotel with plenty of sun loungers. Very helpful pool boys to provide the towels and move loungers for you. Situated right on the beach, although current too strong to swim. Excellent breakfast with lots of choice. Rooms all have sea view and are beautifully cleaned every day and always smelled perfumed. Wonderful king bed with lovely linen and plenty of storage in the room for clothes. The staff are all very polite.
Cons: If you are not on an "all inclusive" package the drinks in the bar are very expensive. Beer costs twice as much as the local bars around the hotel.

Pros: Lovely and very helpful staff. Walkable every where in the fort. Only Shame was it was raining when I felt like a swim. Spa on sight was great at well. Makes a mean mojito.
Cons: Unfortunately the area was experiencing brown outs so the air con dropped out.
7,0 Good
Pros: The closeness of the property to the main streets for shopping/dining etc in the Galle Fort
Cons: Pool area was smelly and hot and as Galle Fort is very hot to stay in, a decent pool would have made the stay more enjoyable. Dinner was good but breakfast was average.

Pros: The location is stunning. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful property. The room was large and the private balcony was beautiful. The breakfast was very satisfying too.
Cons: The one small negative for me was that the AC remote did not work and it was stuck on a temperature that was uncomfortably warm.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The place is magical - beautiful house with a soul and marvellous garden with a hidden pool. While swimming we could observe monkeys on the nearby trees and appreciate company of peacocks strolling around the garden. We have enjoyed every bit of our stay. Our room was just amazing and we were sorry to leave Apa Villa Illuketia. In addition we loved the food - the chef is excellent and the way that the food is served meets standards of the best restaurants. The staff is caring and attentive to detail. We have travelled with our 2 year old daughter and we felt that we couldn't have been better treated.
Cons: One room for improvement is that the bathroom could be a bit more carefully cleaned. Other than that it was perfect. So far our best stay in Sri Lanka.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is so beautiful surrounded by nature, the staff who is running the place are so friendly and accommodating the food was excellent, it was a wonderful experience
Cons: There was nothing to complain everything was perfect
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The gardens are beautiful and teeming with fauna - its an oasis from city life. The food is quite nice.
Cons: I'm really nitpicking, but the staff retires for the night and you cannot get anything after; the villa is around twenty minutes from Unawatuna (costs around 800 LKR for a tuk tuk trip).
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the villas secluded nature and was in love with the place. Absolutely amazing. I think it is a steal for the quoted price. Defnitely a couples paradise
9,0 Excellent
Pros: -We loved the surrounding jungle and gardens. -The staff were amazing and attentive, they made sure our honeymoon stay was special. -The food was delicious -great facilities. We loved the pool and the ability to rent bikes/scooters is a lifesaver
Cons: The only issue is that it's far from the beaches. But you can rent e-bikes or scooters... The latter will get you to the beach in about 15 mins. Also, the wildlife might jump on your roof and wake you up at night... But that's part of the charm.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: the location is absolut fabulous ! We enjoyed every minute of it. The staff is super, and the kitchen prepares delicious local meals. What a great hospitality.
Cons: we can't come up with any negative aspects about Villa Illuketia.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Exelaint nature and peaceful time.
Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: At the end of our 3 wk round trip in Sri Lanka we booked a pond room at Apa Villa. We stayed with 2 adults and a 6 year old. The room is at a wonderfull location next to the pond. From the swing you can look over the rice fields and spot wildlife. Langurs (monkey), monitors, paradise birds, peacocks, brahmini kite, and many more. Breakfast is served at the wonderful and large villa, that is all at your disposal. The staff was so kind to our son, playing, making musik, letting him 'help' in the kitchen, and let him feed the fish. He says that 'next time we go to Sri Lanka, he only wants to go to Apa Villa and stay there for 3 weeks!' We stayed 3 nights. One morning made a trip to Galle Fort, that is wonderfull. The other day we made a trip to the beach. The owners and staff have very good advise where to go and will arrange the transport. The rest of the time we stayed at the premises, spent some time at the pool, or explored the surroundings (rice fields, temples). Last but not least the food is really very good. You can let them know in the morning if your want to stay in for lunch and/ or dinner. Unfortunately we stayed too short to try the whole menu! Breakfast is also very good, and well taken care of. Make sure you try the Sri Lankan breakfast including delicious hoppers.
Cons: Mosquito's were harrasing me when outside, especially at dusk, and even when I used DEET repellent. I was stung even through my clothes. So if moquito's like you, make sure to bring the highest % DEET repellent you can find, and bring this from home. (local replellent did not work for me) The pond room was free of mosquito's, and it has a large and good mosquito net for extra protection.

Pros: Staff is lovely. They went out of their way to assist me. I had lost my flip flops and they sent someone to buy them for me in my size! The beach access provided by the hotel is one of the best on the shore.
Cons: Breakfast options are limited but better than other options in the neighborhood. The hotel is called a retreat but their spa room is very dark and small.

Pros: Friendly staff Views/ Greenery Visits from monkeys Food Ayurvedic consultation & massage Yoga
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are lovely and clean. Breakfast was good. The staff couldn’t do anymore for you. We ended up staying another night as we liked it that much. Easy access to beach and in walking distance to the local strip of bars and restaurants. Lovely vibe here.
Cons: Everything was great.
7,1 Good
Pros: It’s very well located, in midst of nature. Quiet clean environment and room. Best part is about the staff. They are very sweet and you will fall in love with them.
Cons: We were given property at 6 th floor room number 106 and it was too difficult to climb and get down for everything. If you are not physically fit, you will get exhausted. A lift would have been good. Climbing 6 floor uphill is too strenuous. Also water force is very slow on 6 th floor. You get frustrated to finish shower...
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Located on a little street, which is fulls if shops and restaurants. Just opposite the beach, very clean, beautiful old furnishings, great staff and great breakfast! We’ll be back
Cons: Absolutely nothing
