We absolutely loved this hotel. Their guest book is full of glowing reviews from all nationalities. It was almost empty, probably due to the bad reviews on booking.com etc. Our room was clean, spacious and cool with amazing views and the staff we’re attentive but not intrusive. The air conditioning and Wi-fi worked well. It’s a beautiful old colonial building with all the quirks which come with age. Yes, it’s not in pristine condition, but in a way that adds to its charm. It’s got a great infinity pool overlooking the bay from which we could watch the surf schools. Very entertaining! It has a private entrance onto the beach (a bit dilapidated which made us giggle) where we had a long swam at twilight. Some staff have worked here for 35 years and more. We applaud its owner for keeping the original furniture and preserving its history and hope the negative reviews don’t force this glorious place to close. We’re not hippies. Just a returning professional couple exploring the world. We’ll be recommending it to all our friends
Amazing views over Galle Harbour. Incredible infinity pool. Very friendly helpful staff many of whom had worked their for over 30 years.
Beautiful old hotel sadly in need of a bit of updating.
I have never had mixed feelings about a hotel. But this is such a property. Positives: location. When I say location, it’s a 10 star property. Every window is worth being photographed.there is a very decent beach nearby where surfing is taught. It’s also one of those few places where both sunrise and sunset can be mesmerising. It had ample space for our sons to run around( they are 2 and 6 respectively). Galle fort is 1.8 km away, so you can go to fort easily. Staff:- they are genuinely good people who want to make your stay memorable. Food: its great tasting food even though menus is limited. Swimming pool is located with a great view.
Negatives: It’s rundown property. Rooms themselves are good with a functioning bathroom and bathtub. But drapes are coming apart. There are two snakes in the property which staff is aware of. While they are harmless, after seeing them once I could not leave my kids in the open alone.Garden was tended in our stay once. It’s a huge garden and can really shine if well taken care of. And that great swimming pool looks unclean. While it was ok for us to go in, another family did not let their kids in and I don’t blame them as it’s does look very rundown. Service: this is slow. We preferred getting our water bottles extra on our own to reduce effort. Also, there is practically you can call housekeeping from room. And even though food was good, it used to take them a long time to serve They don’t have an alcohol license. So overall, we wanted to like this place a lot, but basics need to be covered by this hotel.
Place needs a little more TLC. Beautiful location though, and that's what you're paying for.
View of the location is superb.
Room arrangements are not in the optimel level. They do not consider the booking .lk special request like room arrangements.
