Overview Reviews
This lovely hotel is set in Etretat. The establishment consists of 63 rooms. Travellers will not be bothered during their stay, as this is not a pet-friendly establishment.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We have enjoyed our stay at Dormy House! The rooms, good breakfast, the terrace, the area, the views, and the service - everything was perfect and made us feel relaxed!
7,5 Good
Pros: the view
Cons: this was our honeymoon, the bride expected at least a welcome smile, but nothing happened, despite request
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Our view from the room was wonderful. We ate dinner in the restaurant and it was the best meal we had in France.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: We like its situation. Staff are very helpful. When sunny it is lovely to sit outside in the deckchairs and have a drink. The room we had was lovely and nice to have a balcony to sit out and look over Etratat.
Cons: It would have been nice to have had perhaps a sandwich whilst sat outside on the lawn but you could only have lunch.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location and setting of this hotel is stunning. Although not a fan of big hotels, this one has all the old world charm you could want.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Cozy room, close to the beach, nice terrace with a view
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent buffet breakfast. Very well placed.
Cons: Restaurant gets fully booked quickly so needs to be reserved before travel - something the website could make easier
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It is beautiful. We expected a room with a back view, which we had, but it also had a view of the cliffs and the town. Our room was large and well appointed with a great bathroom and amenities. A short walk to the beach and town meant we didn’t need our car. A plus was free parking. A very good dinner in their restaurant which has a panoramic view.
Cons: Nothing
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Extremely nice location, friendly staff, very calm.
Cons: Carpets are a bit dusty when you have some allergy. The rest is perfect. Missing a spa or a pool and would be the paradise !
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location and room layouts. The restaurant, the bar and the staff were just excellent.
Cons: Rooms a little dated and poor WiFi.
5,3 Okay
Pros: The location in Etretat of the Dormy House is wonderful. Our room had an incredible ocean view. And the restaurant at Dormy also had a wonderful panoramic view. There was a short footpath which led directly to the beach.
Cons: The individual rooms are quite dated and dusty. It doesn't have all the modern comforts of a newer hotel such as in-room internet access. And the design of the rooms and hotel was a bit antiquated - it simply looked outdated rather than Old World.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Bedrooms need to be updated, Price of restaurant meal & slow service.
7,7 Good
Pros: We had a very comfortable stay in this lovely hotel with its fabulous views. The food was excellent if a little expensive.
6,0 Good
Pros: Magnificent view (ask for seaside view)
Cons: old plumbery probably, since water temperature changed in the shower (I particularly do not like that), price is rather high but the view compensates for this

Pros: Superb location, balcony room with superb panorama across the bay at Etretat. Pretty gardens, again with superb views. Fabulous room and bathroom and excellent food with good service.
Cons: No.
7,6 Good
Pros: the staff were superb! They couldn't do enough for you and accommodated every request promptly, cheerfully, and to your total satisfaction. The view was also among the most spectacular we have ever had from a hotel room!
Cons: No elevator, but that's quite common in European hotels that are not part of a chain. They carried our , and we miminzed trips back to our room. Not a problem.

Pros: Everything in this place was wonderful! Big cozy house, friendly and careful owner, clean room, beautiful garden. Any question, any issue - Rafael is ready to help and give an advice. It seems that he is enjoying his guests. Very pleasant! Recommend to everybody. Best staying in Etretat :)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious light room with a view on the ocean (we booked standard room). Very beautiful house - especially the dining and the main rooms.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: It is an giant old house with a beautiful garden and plenty of space for children. It has an atmosphere of 50’s, being there is really an experience. Mr Raphael, the owner, and his wife are incredible persons and will do everything to make you feel at home. Great breakfast offered by them. The room is huge and clean, the furniture is amazing. I do want to stay again with my family!
Cons: The house does not have elevator and the space for parking is very limited, however that details does not compromise the overall experience.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: We had a delightful stay at this old house. The owners are nice people with an eye for history and arts. Breakfast was delicious.
Cons: The bathroom ventilation was insufficient for towels to get dry.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The property had a lovely homely feel about it and the hosts very friendly.
Cons: The internet connection was not good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room in beautiful house. Great atmosphere and excellent breakfast. Very friendly owners. Property a little up the hill and a few minutes walking to the beach and center. Can be reached by car (use access for residents).
7,5 Good
Pros: It's a beautiful old mansion uphill surrounded by ancient trees overlooking the falaises of Etretat. We enjoyed the seclusion, the beauty of the house and the fact that we didn't have to worry about parking, which can be a real hassle in Etretat. We had a big comfortable room elegantly decorated and with a beautiful view of the village and the bay. We also appreciated the freshly cut flowers in the room. It's not so difficult to find the place by car as many other travellers complained in their comments. It's actually quite simple if you follow the host's instructions (and not the navigator's).
Cons: The bathroom could have used a bit of refurbishing, the toilet seat was sliding sideways….Breakfast was unsatisfying.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: You feel invited at someone´s home. The owner is courteous, flexible, and the home is just superb. We had a view on the bay with the cliffs. it´s all so quiet and peaceful. The reakfast in the dining room is very nice, great quality of products.
Cons: Everything was great, i do think however that shower gel should be in the bathroom. That´s my only remark.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Magnificent view over the city and the cliffs. Very warm welcome by the owner. Historical building. Cosy and truly charming. Highly recommended when you go to Étretat.
Cons: Parking at the residence can be complicated when there are many guests.
7,5 Good
Pros: The location was perfect plus super quiet and peaceful ! Breakfast very cery good!
Cons: Rooms where not cleaned for 3 Nights Wifi upstairs too weak had to go downstairs

9,5 Excellent
Pros: The host was most friendly and helpful. The room was tastefully decorated and the gardens were very large and peaceful filled with interesting animals, including llamas, peafowl (with a one day old chick), etc. Breakfast had a great variety of food and very pleasant ambience.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
7,0 Good
Pros: The garden
Cons: Breakfast was nice but we were all squashed together. Would really benefit from slightly more table space.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely place in the middle of french countryside, animals all around the farm.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The place was fantastic! Quite, conformable, clean. The room was spacious and the owner Sebastian amazing. Exotic animals all around it could be a zoo, but there was no oder. A beautiful black swan greeted you as you walked in an out. The French breakfast cost extra and was worth it. Just an amazing place. Close to Etretat. Thank you so much Sebastian for creating this lovely place and allowing us to stay as tourist. I can not recommend this place enough. Not to be missed.
Cons: Not a thing.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Good wifi. Lovely private cottage and parking in secure gated grounds. Shower and constant hot water. Plenty of towels, hair dryer. Mini kitchenette, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, hot plate. Plenty of china, glasses, cutlery, pots & pans. Enjoyed sitting out on the patio beside the pond after a day out sightseeing and nice to walk around looking at the varied animals and unusual plants. Our host was always on hand and happy to make our stay more enjoyable.
Cons: Bed mattress a bit on the hard side. If you like soft pillows bring your own. Plenty of bread but no croissants for breakfast.
7,5 Good
Pros: Good location, friendly hosts
Cons: Thin walls so you hear everything happening in the building. Luckily there are not that many rooms.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The black swan in the pond next to the front door always greeted me in the morn. The peacock screamed a greeting from time to time. The farm animals were fun to watch from a nearby road. We did eat at the restaurant but did have picnics and wine on the grounds. Short drive into town of Etratat where there are many fine restaurants.
Cons: There was no sink in the kitchen but the coffee pot and refrigerator were sure used a lot.
7,5 Good
Pros: Breakfast, the cottage, very quiet. Convenient location. Great idea to recommend nearby places to eat
Cons: A sink in the kitchen & coffee pods for the coffee machine would have been a good idea!
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property and nice farm animals
Cons: Checkin/ out times are very specific so pay attrntion! Likewise breakfast yime is only 9-10
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, knowledgeable and helpful owner, good breakfast, lovely grounds. The rooms we stayed in had twin beds upstairs and a double downstairs - perfect for a family.
Cons: We were there during the heat wave so this might by atypical but the upstairs rooms were incredibly hot. There is no fan in the room and we couldn't keep the windows open because there were no screens and lots of mosquitoes. We had to sleep on the floor of the downstairs room due to the heat - a few fans and screens would have made a big difference! But again, maybe this was all due to the rare heatwave and isn't an issue at any other times.

9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and quiet location yet close no the seaside and restaurants, parking within 5 minute walk. Room very clean and cosy, not as small as I expected, WC freshly renovated, and the reception person very friendly. Nice place to stay and definetely worth the money.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff who gave very good information and the restaurant recommendations were spot on. Delicious breakfast. The bread was excellent. Hotel location: in the middle of the town. 5 minute walk from the beach and some nice restaurants a couple of streets down the road.
Cons: Would be great if the shower gel was provided in a bottle as the little packs were not handy. It would also be great if there were a holder in the wall to put the soap or shower gel on under the shower
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel. Location is perfect, 2 mins walk to the center, 5 to the cliffs. The guy who’s running the hotel is very nice, friendly and helpfull...gave us heaps of options to eat and very good advises ! The room is very comfy, clean and nice. Breakfast was simple but good!
Cons: Lack of parking but as most of the hotel in Étretat apparently...
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The owner gave us great tips on places to eat at. His recommendations were fantastic
Cons: The check in time is only at 15:00, which is quite late. That's because they have to clean up the place. They were kind enough to let us leave our luggage.
Detective Hotel - Étretat - Bedroom

8,7 Excellent (707 reviews)
R1 738+

Each room is individually decorated to represent a different detective's story and character. All rooms are equipped with private bathrooms and a TV. There is a private garden, a tearoom and a library so guests can relax and enjoy a drink. Free Wi-Fi is available. The Hotel Detective is close to the shops and restaurants.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic quirky hotel with stylish rooms each with the theme of a famous literary detective. Ours had a secret sliding door a small salon, bathroom and toilet hidden behind elegant mirrored wardrobe doors. Very comfortable bed and every detail well chosen. Wonderful location 5 minutes from the each with its spectacular cliff formations at either end. Highly recommended
Cons: Road was busy with Sunday traffic but this subsided by late afternoon and was then no problem.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Cozy, charming, clean, nice staff, a wonderful apricotmarmalade
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was just amazing. Well decorated, stylish, with 2 levels and window with a beautiful view. The bed was comfortable and clean. You can feel yourself as a part of a movie.
Cons: Nothing
7,5 Good
Pros: Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean and we liked decoration of the room. Detective theme was fun and the location of the hotel was excellent.
Cons: We were together with my wife and had some time to be without children. Somebody came to our door at the evening (10 pm) shouting; walls are thin and we should stop that (what adults do sometimes, expecially when they are on holiday). That felt bad and ruined our staying at hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very quaint and something different from the normal stay. Breakfast was lovely. A lot of attention put into the the theme of the hotel. Great location in a lovely village.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location & atmosphere
8,3 Excellent
Pros: We liked the quirky nature of the hotel and the curated collection of memorabilia and detective 'prop-ery'. The salon was a terrific spot for breakfast and breakfast was good too (very friendly and helpful staff)but the upper floors / rest of the hotel couldn't quite keep up, looking a bit tired or trying too hard in other places. Staying in the duplex (up three flights to sleep on the second floor) was a little odd and too cramped for a family of four. The central location of the hotel is a hit but comes with the usual caveat about plenty of noise and drifting vehicle and smokers' fumes if your windows are open and you overlook the main thoroughfare. Turn right out of the hotel and right again to head towards the seafront and find 'nicer' restaurants. We loved climbing the cliffs and the beach front along with everybody else in town it seems.
Cons: Parking is a faff. You can find spots about 5 mins away for 5 euros a day but it's not easy when it comes to loading/unloading. Eating 'reasonably' is a bit tricky also in Etretat - £60 plus per meal - so best to head to a boulangerie for a sandwich on the go. Then run the gauntlet of the gulls....
4,5 Okay
Pros: Clever rooms
Cons: The only parking in town is limited duration, for pay parking - which means you have to get up and move your car. No staff was readily available when we arrived, and they did not give us the password for the internet when we checked in, and no one was around when we returned back to the hotel. The shower was filled with mold - not just on the ceiling from poor air circulation on the bathroom, but on the shower walls and floors, from lack of regular cleaning. The room smelled musty. The breakfast was 9 euros per person additional, so we purchased croissant au chocolat and coffees from the boulanger across the street at a total cost of 4E20.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the detective theme. One or two fun surprises which showed our ‘detective’ skills weren’t as good as we thought they were! Really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back for a longer stay.
7,5 Good
Pros: Good location, right next to attractions and restaurants. The beds are clean and fresh, clean showers. The hotel is very small and charming, with its "Detective" decorations, being located right to the Maurice LeBlanc's house, Arsene Lupin 's "father".
Cons: May be pleasant to people used with antiquities, old smell of wood and, generally, historic buildings, but I couldn't get over the smell...

9,5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is lovely. We really enjoyed having a glass of wine in the evening in the common space. It has wonderful ambiance. Also, there is parking available and the centre of town is just a short walk. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
9,3 Excellent
Cons: we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. we are vegetarian and there was a vegeterian option but only one and it was only OK.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very cosy and individually styled rooms.
Cons: There was someone repairing chairs both days in the entrance to the hotel which was an odd place considering it is the first impression you get of the hotel. Similarly the space seemed to be being used for a discarded table football and coats...
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very pleasant staff and good hotel setting
Cons: Breakfast not included for that price shouldn't be acceptable
5,0 Okay
Cons: The bed was very cold. There was not enough covers. I find the price overrated comparing to higher standards. Also the location is to far away from the center which should make the price go down
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel, in a perfect location, allowing for great views over Etretat. The room we stayed in was one of the most interestingly decorated hotel rooms I've ever seen: full of character, while at the same time very comfortable. The dinner at the hotel's restaurant was a unique experience.

Pros: Amazing building itself, good and welcome staff, nice room and bed. I really enjoyed every minute of staying there
Cons: Everything was good, the only thing there was not tea/coffee spot in the room
6,8 Good
Pros: Centrally located in a beautiful half timbered old building.
Cons: Room was very small, especially the shower. No proper headboard to the bed. Need to be fit, four flights of stairs and no lift.
7,5 Good
Pros: Unusual very old building, authentic! For one night is good for interesting experience. Very good location- just one minute to the beach!
Cons: 1.No air conditioning, so you need sleep with open windows 2. All night seagulls and drinking people from restaurants did not let us sleep
9,3 Excellent
Cons: One of the reception ladies do not speak English, communication was difficult to check out and break fest.
6,8 Good
Pros: Amazing view from the room window. Comfortable bed.
Cons: The room was slightly to small and their was no air conditioning and lots of stairs. No lift.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location, very kind staff, beautiful building itself. It has undoubtable charms of the old times that I personally love.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect ! The hotel is beautiful as much as the room. The staff is really nice and very accomodating. We definitely want to come back !
6,3 Good
Pros: We booked the large family room for 5. The room was classy, cosy, spacious enough and partical.
Cons: The big problem was the noise from the street. If you want to sleep at night, just don’t book here. The street itself was not that busy but the single glazed Windows, so old that They don’t even shut (large gaps) Made that you hear everything. From people talking (just normal volume), to knives touching platen in the restaurant below to chairs moving. From the emptying of the dumpsters to the seagulls (a lot of them). A period hotel is great but for that price you expect some degree of comfort...
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel occupies a historical building, tourists stop to make pictures of it. It’s authentic inside. The hotel is clean, location is great.
Cons: The room was really small, but the price was adequate. The administrator was inattentive at our check-out and tried to double charge. After some discussion she checked the documents and the situation was settled, but I was ready to pay because we had a scheduled transport and to try to settle the situation with booking.com. Of course it would have taken a lot more efforts afterwards.
7,0 Good
Pros: The feel of a 400 year old building: with all modern comforts. Very clean rooms. Four poster bed was comfortable.
Cons: In keeping with the architecture; the windows were single glazed. Unfortunately it meant a lot of noise instruction from the busy street below.

Cons: Every Person in the Hotel was unable to speak english or anything other than french. Even when they recogniced that we were Not of french origin, they did nothing to improve their communication with us. When we ate breakfast, there was a disgustingly bad smell. Pros: I loved the lady at the reception, she was very kind and helpful.
Cons: The service was a bit slow. I sat down in the restaurant downstairs alone. Although the waitress had a kind smile, she took my full order and after each dish kept asking me if I still wanted another dish.... in the time I sat down, clients came in after me, had a main course with desert and left and I was still sitting there. At the end for a slice of home made pie, I waited 17minutes.... there were only 6 people sitting in the restaurant :/ and she continued to serve everyone else faster than me... very strange feeling

Overview Reviews
With a stay at New Windsor, you'll be centrally located in Etretat, within a 5-minute walk of Etretat Beach and Alabaster Coast. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
7,5 Good
Pros: Nice modern look of the room.
Cons: Only 1 plug for electronic devices. Not very handy if you are a photographer, which there are alot of in etretat.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location was perfect, just in the city centre. The room was clean and the water was warm. There were some funny paintings in the room with caricatures of sailors and fisherman.
Cons: The room was small and the bathroom was old. It was not soundproof. It was ok for one night stay but overpriced, considering it was not high season. I had high expectations from the pictures and was somewhat disappointed. It was still ok because we spent most of our time outside.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: Not a lot. It was poor. Just a massive rip off. We left a night early and took the financial hit on the chin.
Cons: Smell of fried food from kitchen going in room as the extractor is near the rooms at the back. Dirty sheets.Tired bathroom facilities. Absolutely overpriced as well.
3,0 Mediocre
Cons: the reception staff were disinterested when we asked about parking facilities in the town. just shrugged shoulders. We had booked for 2 nights but it was an awful hotel. not what we are used to with booking .com. room small and the hotel needs a complete makeover! we decided not to stay so we lost our money for 2 nights. tourist Info found us a Chambres D'Hotes which was excellent.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very good location
4,5 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Poor breakfast, small room
6,8 Good
Pros: Perfect location and clean rooms.
Cons: The rooms were not all renovated as shown in the main picture.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Location is close to the older part of town where you find all the restaurants and bars. The beach is a 5 min walk and the cliffs are also on walking distance. You can rent a private parking space in a very nearby garage for 8 euro.
Cons: The rooms A LOT less nice as the photos. Old and small room, old bathroom (shower was fine!) and not really clean. We asked if they could provide us with a baby bed, for which they wanted to charge us 9 euro (we are never charged extra for a baby bed). On top of that, the hotel charged 3 euro extra for the baby. Ridiculous since the room is already too expensive compared to its value. The “restaurant” is everything but cosy, we had dinner elsewhere. The hotel is fine as long as you have no high ecpectations.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Good hotel in center of Etretat, just 5 minutes from Hotel de Ville and bus stop to Le Havre. Hotel is small, and we have lovely room with entrance from the balcony with nice view! Room was pretty big, bed was comfortable, shower - normal. We even had rest-zone with coach and small table in our room. Easy check-in and check-out

Pros: The hospitality is awesome. The person always welcomes you with smile a good joke. Your mind will be refreshed. The bar in this farm house is good.
Cons: Only thing is it is around 30 min walk from Etretat bus stand. So, its little far from the main attraction point. If you have a personal vehicle, then this place is perfect. But the hospitality is awesome.

We feel that we felt we are being comfort and look after not just with the language is the warmest personality. We had flat tyre when we left the hotel at Etratet we couldn’t find anyone help but when I phoneed hotel ask the help but the phone was run out battery we couldn’t finish the conversation but it’s really suppressing me about 15 min later the owner came to the car park find us ask us what he can do to help which is great support attitude toward the costom who has already check out . We are really thankful for the owner and good luck for his business.

9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great location - only a couple of minutes from the beach and close to the bus stop (both Flixbus and SNCF). Very clean and comfy
Cons: everything was great

Cons: The room is very small. The minimum of the comfort, no even the glasses provided . However, the bed is comfy - no complaints. Suitable for overnight - and just once.
6,3 Good
Pros: The location was really nice. Near to most of the attractions.
Cons: The staff behaviour could have been better. They outrightly refused for flexible check out which I think was rude.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is basic but OK, Location is perfect, in the center. Everything is at walking distance
Cons: The rooms are getting old. No amenities in the bathroom
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: The bathroom had been recently renovated and was clean.
Cons: The hotel is above a Tavern and getting to the rooms required entering through the tavern, going to a side door and up 2 flights of steps. This hallway/stairs needs desperately to be refurbished. The rooms smelled must and although clean can also use an updating. The hotel is located in the center of the town in a section of town that reminded us of Disney with lots of tourist, souvenir shops and bars. Not a very pleasant place to stay.
5,5 Okay
Pros: A bed of 1m40 for a double room for 2pers ??
Cons: No Parking you have to use public parking which is expensive
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building right by the beach. They have a good breakfast and were nice.
Cons: No A/C but that’s no big deal. Parking is limited (market closes the area) in the area so be careful. 500 meters away there is ample and cheap parking but I recommend you off load near the hotel to avoid a long walk.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location is great, staff is friendly, not everyone speaks English, but it’s not a problem. Beautiful window view
Cons: I just expected at least cozier room, maybe some decoration inside)) and shampoo would be a good idea for that price, I think.

7,0 Good
Pros: Location of hotel is perfect. Wooden interior makes it a bit romantic :)
Cons: Was not very clean in rooms. Very narrow steps upstairs, difficult to carry luggage. Etratat is very overmarketed, really nothing to do here for more than an hour.
2,5 Mediocre
Cons: I had to cancel my trip and called them before the arrival time to cancel. They said it was ok on the phone but my card was charged. This is what I call a rip off
5,5 Okay
Pros: The location was perfect to view the cliffs and go to the jardins of etretat.
Cons: It was right over their restaurant and all I could smell was the food in my room. Made me nauseous.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing!
Cons: Tiny dark wood pannelled third floor attic room with no lift and 59 stairs! Toilet was in a tiny cupboard. Staff offhand and couldn't care less attitude. Fire door at top of stairs was wedged open.

Cons: No kettle in room to make drinks
5,8 Okay
Pros: The property is located close to the beach.
Cons: The room, the table were dusty. The matrass was rough.
7,5 Good
Pros: Amazing view from the window on the square, cliffs, church on the cliff. Cute small balcony where you can sit and admire the view. I loved the interior, it was super cozy and authentic, just like the pictures. Separated bathroom and toilet- small but clean. Perfect place to stay for a few nights and explore Étretat (situated in the heart of the town) and feel as the part of this amazing atmosphere.
Cons: After 22pm entrance from the backdoor, the side street had a light which only switched on when you stay bu a certain angle right by the backdoor- so it is a bit creepy when you go there in the darkness. The manager seemed a bit unfriendly.
