10,0 Wonderful
Pros:We stayed here with our two children, ages 10 and 15, in a family room. The room had a nice bed for us and two bunk beds for the kids, and a private shower and bathroom. Everything was very clean (except our outside balcony which was covered with bird poop, but whatever; the birds were there first). The food was amazing - yes, it's institutional food, but it's great for families with picky children - you can eat as much of the thing that you like! There was a TON of vegetarian options, also (we are vegetarians). Best variety of eating in all of Israel. There is also a cafeteria in the Masada museum, so you can get falafel and other types of sandwiches - even pizza. The workers there are also very friendly and helpful. It is also a nice place to meet other travelers and families. It's also a perfect location to climb the Snake Path; you wake up early in the morning (4:30am for us) and get started with everyone else. The Egged bus public transportation is right outside the door so you can easily go to Ein Bokek beach the day that you climb Masada - in fact we took public transportation all throughout Israel. The pool was incredible - it was so hot outside and so it was wonderfully refreshing - as you swim or sit in the pool you can enjoy the gorgeous view of mountains - we only wish the pool stayed open later! I'd stay here again and again. Also there is a great video to watch before you climb Masada and there is a museum attached. In fact, staying here is like staying in a museum / learning institution - do be prepared for student groups, but be happy that they are learning along with you.
Cons:I wish the pool stayed open longer, and maybe a little less bird poop on the our room's balcony. There was a lot of cigarette smoking in the hallways, but other than that the place was perfect, one of our favorite places to stay.

3,4 Poor
Pros:Location if you want to hike up the snake trail early in the morning, close by to the bus station (2 minutes walk)
Cons:Staff (Daniel) was not friendly or welcoming at all, no help given whatsoever, for the reception as well as for the dinner. No one was available when I wanted to do an early check out at 5:30 am (the plan being to go on the snake trail for sunrise, like I guess 80% of their guests). I was told that you can basically check out between 8am and 10am, which kind of ruins the purpose of having a hotel close by to Massada if you need to come down very early without having the time to visit. No locker rooms available to leave your stuff, at some point a security guard told me to leave it in the hall !!? He reluctantly accepted to store it in their offices. Muddy footsteps in the shower, with two lousy shower gel portions available. Dinner is strictly between 6:30 and 7:30pm. It didn't feel like a hostel, more like a boarding room at an old lady with a cat place.

Pros:Location to Masada, able to walk up Masada before sunrise and then watch the sunrise over the dead sea .
Cons:Room not clean and 4 school buses full of very loud children
