Lots of hidden fees from Hertz. Sneaky wording in the email as well. We anticipated paying $340.73. The email we received had a total of $509.66 - I had anticipated some fees and taxes. When we got there we ended up paying $1176 for 2 days. The email was as follows; Due at pick-up: $340.73 Base Price: $88.38 Taxes and Fees: $252.35 You will pay AUD 509.66 at pick-up Which is far from the $1176 that we paid for a 2 day car rental. Very misleading and they don’t tell you until you get there so you’re stuck paying for it.

Sales tactics were a little dodgy at pick-up. The reception staff tried to convince me to pay for an upgrade to a larger vehicle which I declined. It turned out that the company did not have the compact I had ordered and knew this, hence the hard-sell for a larger vehicle. I opted to stay with my more modest choice and was rewarded with a 'free upgrade'.

Compact SUV

Pick up from the airport took a long time and then the actual handover of the car took over 45 minutes. I was given a hard sell on upgrade of car and insurance. Car itself was fine and drop off was easy. There were a number of upset customers unable to get on the mini van to the airport and one family missing their flight all together.

After booking for a 12am pickup my reservation was changed to 12pm. When i contacted Apex they told me that i can only book aa after hours pick up directly through them. Had no choice but to cancel my original booking and rebook only to find that the price directly through Apex was $400 more than my original booking. Need to specify these things prior to booking through 3rd parties. Not happy and will not use again

pickup people were great. Location was a bit out of the way but easily reachable on public transport. My huge problem is that we returned the car about 90 minutes over a 24 hour period so they charged us an extra day of rental (at half price) which I was ok with. What I was NOT ok with is that they also charged (full price) and additional day of ALL the fees--insurance, tax, one way drop off, administration recovery, Vehicle rego recovery, credit card surcharge and prepaid tolls. All these additional fees were over $100 extra. I was not told at either pickup or return that these fees were charged daily. When I contacted them they would not refund ANY of these fees, not even a 50% reduction. I had a rental from Hertz during the same vacation and picked up the car a day early and was only charged ONE day of all those fees (for a 4 day rental) I will NEVER EVER rent from Thrifty again--it was highway robbery how much they charged and now I have to get the credit card company involved and it's wasting a lot of my time. For approximately $100 they would have been able to have a reasonably satisfied customer, but they sure don't now!

If one could find the BP service station at the airport as I drive over there much I believe I now I have been fined as I was looking around for sign where to go and lights change I asked the police where the BP service station was and then I still couldn't find it, I think it's wrong what you do to your customers about the fuel $5.40 a litre . I was getting upset and and confused as I went up into the carpark the one that as a bridge I had ten minutes to get out before I had to pay I went around in circles to find the service station.

There was no signage that thrifty was at the hertz. I was it the que for two hours and they didn't have the small car I hod booked, and upgraded me to a lg station wagon

Intermediate SUV

Terrible, why say pick up at the airport then send you off-site to collect the car. I specifically booked airport pickup because I travelled with an 11 week, 2 big suitcases and a baby capsule set.

Compact SUV

Europcar has many locations, one at the terminal buildings and one off site accessed by a shuttle service. The 2 do not match up. Firstly Kayak website clearly advertised the car as ‘terminal buildings’ when in actual fact after booking and paying and luckily checking my email says south centre road - the offsite location. Europcar (terminals) were terrible to deal with they just wanted me to hire a car twice as expensive. He also told me to call the shuttle ( which they are supposed to do I was told) so I called Europcar at Sth centre Rd. They were better to deal with overall and the shuttle was prompt and the sky park driver was lovely. Be aware before booking! If you were looking for a quick pickup at the terminal because it is NOT the case with Kayak.

The car was in good condition with good pick up and drop off service. Just the back seat door a bit hard to close.

Compact SUV

Staff were great but when I hired the vehicle the add said Melbourne Airport and it turned out the pick up was 5km away My wife has stage 4 cancer so the extra time walking and pick up location was unacceptable
