Lost items

After checking out of the hotel, and a several hours down the road, we realized we left a body weight scale. When we were able to verify that we left it behind, approximately 8 hours later, we contacted the hotel (Sunday evening). We were told no one could help us until Monday. We called Monday, no scale to be found, but we're told they would keep looking and call us Tuesday; no call on Tuesday until we initiated, no one could help until Wednesday. Called Wednesday, no scale, but there were a few more places they could check (House Keeping homes or eBay?! Whatever...). Thursday (Thanksgiving). Called Friday, informed the hotel that we had reservations to stay on Saturday and if they did find it (hopeful, but no longer expecting), we would pick it up on the way back through. I was told if it was in the hotel, they would have it for me. I suspect someone already sold it on eBay, garage sale or wrapped it for a Christmas present. The loss of the scale was less an issue than the concern of our society's lack of integrity. I guess the "entitlement" bug is everywhere. I will spend a little more money next time and go back to my Marriott hotels. Lesson Learned: integrity is spotty EVERYWHERE. Do not expect to have items returned to you if you accidently leave them behind.
