The staff sent me a message beforehand letting me know they were waiting for me. They had our booking available promptly and even though their printer wasn’t working, they resolved the issue quickly. I could tell they’re trying to make every guest’ experience remarkable. The breakfast wasn’t very big but it was tasty! I can’t believe I only paid about $25 with two free breakfasts included! It was pretty awesome. The property is also very traditionally looking. You feel like you’re staying at an old Chinese house, like the true Beijing haha. They had an actual bed (not the thin mattresses but a big one). And they have 24h reception. What I mostly loved was the staff though! Super nice and helpful.
The shower is in between the toilet and the sink haha. It’s quite the experience but it works I guess haha.
The hotel is in a great location, with very good transport links and within walking distance from some of Beijing main attractions, the area is very lively, and with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel itself is beautiful, with Chinese style courtyard and nice decor, and prices were really affordable.
However, our check-in experience was not great. On arrival, we were told that the room we had booked (Delicate Double Room) was not available, and we were offered a twin room instead. After some discussion, we have been offered a Family Suite for the first night of our stay, to be moved to the room we had booked the following morning. We spent the first night in the Family Suite, which was nice and spacious and with a modern bathroom and shower. The room we spent the rest of our stay in, however, was a little outdated, with wallpaper coming off in some places, and the bathroom did not have a proper shower (just the showerhead hanging on top of the toilet, no curtains or shields of any kind), so it was messy and there was water everywhere after showering. However, this was one of the cheapest rooms available, so we were not expecting much more for the price. If you plan to stay here, I would suggest choosing a nice, big room (like the family suite), as it really is worth staying here because of the location and the price is still reasonable, but the cheapest rooms may not be up to your expectations. Also, beware that the staff at this property does not speak English, so communications can be tricky if you don't speak at least basic Chinese.
Location, hotel architecture and staff were good
Small rooms, walls in bad condition, the breakfast was poor. Clothes were hanging in front of the room.
To anyone who is weighing up whether to stay at this property let me give a fair and honest assessment: - It's cheap (you wont get much cheaper in BJ) - Location is great lots of good places to eat and near many tourist sights + two subway stations. - Staff are very friendly and will do all they can to help you - It's clean - the property is essentially being constantly cleaned throughout the day by some very hard working cleaners. - They have a nice bar / restaurant area. - They have a kind of travel / concierge service if you want help organising your time in BJ. - It's a old Hutong building which is in many ways good (pretty) and very typical of 'old Beijing'. - they let me check in super early which was nice. - people say the breakfast (Chinese style) is very good, it looked and smelled pretty good but I never tried it. I can vouch for it's freshness though as I watched it being cooked each morning. - The property has a cute cat.
Okay let me first start by saying "what you pay is what you get" if you want a 5 Star hotel, go pay for one! With that in mind let me tell you the negative aspects of staying here: - The beds are very hard (even by China standards), however the staff did what they could to make my bed more comfortable, if you sleep on your back - you'll be fine! - It's in a hutong, meaning the building is old, it's still pretty clean but it's facilities are well worn! My room didnt have a bathroom so I had to use the commual bathroom. Eastern toilets - are clean but not very private, the showers are powerful but also lack privacy. There are also actual Chinese families who live in amongst the hotel rooms, don't mistake this for a complaint, but it doesnt have a hotel or even a hostel vibe - it's literally like you're living amongst the Chinese - take that as you will. - Staff don't really speak English... okay for me as I speak Mandarin, but expect a conversation through google translate... - All guests have to do a pointless security check where the receptionist looks inside your bags, don't mistake this for being overly invasive, it's more pointless as he just looked at my pants and shirts and was like "meh... okay". - No where really secure to leave your stuff, i.e. no lockers and their luggage storage room is just "leave it under the table in the main reception". - My room only had a tiny window - and the decour was lacking - but like I say - you want the ritz... go pay for it. - No laundry service, I found this odd as most Chinese hostels offer a laundry service as a payable add on. There is a laundry place about a 5 minutes walk away, but they are pricey and again - only speak Chinese. - Don't stay here if you are allergic to cats.
Small room for $80/night, mole in the bathroom, window view is actually the view of inside the courtyard! Not the outside. First of all, it was my mistake that I ordered 3nights instead of 4nights(I thought I ordered 4nights), found out that they got into my room and packed my stuff transferred to front desk when I came back at11pm! Ended up I have no room to stay that night and paid half of the price for that day as penalty or they won’t get back my deposit!
