The huge rooms are very good as well as the unique atmosphere at the bar/restaurant downstairs that feels like home, it's awesome.
We have stayed in this hotel before and liked it a lot - and so we were happy to see that the house kept its high standards: Pleasant, quiet rooms with good beds and all the useful amenities, such as mini bar, personal safe, big TV, good shower, plus a very good breakfast and always friendly and competent staff. We also tried the diner offering for the first time (a three-course buffet) and were pleasantly surprised. Further, our biggest reason for complaint during our last stay has been eradicated: The WiFi reception was this time up to modern standards (with enough speed for streaming applications and films). All in all, this hotel is definitely a recommendation for people who want to enjoy a stay in Bad Zwischenahn.
No complaints here, only a suggestion: Some rooms with walk-in showers would be nice. But maybe some rooms do already offer this (Note to self: Maybe worth checking when booking the rooms ...)?
A pleasant view over the lake from some of the tables in the dining room.
It's a soulless place. In need of a refurb and a style injection. Not much attention paid to detail - an odd mix of artwork on the walls, a glass container on the tables half filled with pot pouri and dry leaves (4 star hotels would probably have fresh flowers). No coffee making facilities in the room and no complimentary water either. A mini bar to purchase though. The restaurant staff have clearly been told never to be seen doing nothing, so there's a constant laying of table cloths and cutlery etc, only for it all to be cleared away and replaced with the next mealtime necessities. Breakfast was ok, but you have to ask if you'd like smoked salmon. Apparently this is because they don't want to waste it if it's not busy! A nice selection of rolls and breads though. There's a small bar area, but the doorway was too narrow to accommodate my cousin's wheelchair. We were offered a side room which had all the atmosphere of a railway station waiting room. I arrived after 9.00 pm and was told the kitchen was closed, so no food available. The waiter was able to rustle up a dish of Bombay Mix. Not quite what I would have liked to eat. The hotel wasn't overly busy, so I asked if I could have a later check out, 3.00 pm instead of 11.00. It wasn't possible, but I could have midday. That didn't help me. I wouldn't recommend this hotel or ever return.
Excellent location and views
Great location and helpful staff.
The hotel is looking a little 'tired', especially the public areas. The corridors need to be decorated and new carpet to brighten and freshened up - all looking and feeling a little gloomy. Time to invest in the property.
