Pros: La Banasterie is a delightful Bed & Breakfast. Our hosts Véronique & Fabrice were charming and helpful. They organised a taxi for us at each end of our stay, which was very much appreciated and they went beyond what was expected in so many ways. They are a couple who seem to genuinely enjoy welcoming visitors into their home. La Banasterie is in a great location, only minutes from the Palais des Papes and within easy walking distance of a number of squares, cafes & restaurants. We really enjoyed use of the terrace beside our room. There were a number of other shared spaces for relaxing in that were scattered throughout the home, each comfortably & attractively decorated. The breakfasts were delicious and presented with panache. I would highly recommend La Banasterie as a welcoming and restful base from which to enjoy Avignon.

Cons: We arrived by car and found it impossible to stop at hotel, with no advance knowledge of where to park. We spent around two hours circling Avignon and eventually found a space to park for 15minutes. After walking to hotel, we were directed to a multi-story car park only a few minutes walk away. Unfortunately, to reach it by car involved driving out of the walled city and back in via another entrance, another 20 minute drive. Part of the problem was the numerous road blocks for road repairs but knowing this the hotel could have been more helpful by telling us in advance the names of the city gate and car park along with directions for walking to hotel. We wasted the whole afternoon nd were exhausted on arrival.

I stated I had already paid, despite this she stated it was a holding amount, I stated it had already come out of my account so it is not held. The receptionist stated she would reimburse the amount back into my account. I took her on her word, but on return not amount had been put back into my account. I raised a complaint with booking who contacted the hotel, they were advised they would reimburse, yet I am still waiting for £107. I have to now go through the bank. Therefore this review is based on total disappointment and dissatisfaction

The room had just two small windows - one where curtain needed to be closed all day or there was ground to ceiling view in from courtyard with no net curtain and rear window with any potential view seriously blocked by fire staircase. However room had bright interior lighting so for one night these issues were of little importance. My partner suggests a handrail on the couple of steps to get into the room would be an improvement as steps are deep. It was nice that we didn’t have to climb long flight of stairs to get in though. Courtyard/bar outside room was closed (on Mondays) so no evening drinks available - bit disappointed as it looked so inviting - but we did wonder whether it might have been noisy if it were open. There are other bars that were open just along the street. Courtyard was available for sitting out if required though. Breakfast nice and fresh in room with airy feel and view out to street.

Entrance to suggested carpark difficult to find but we were eventually lucky to find a vacated place on street pay parking which was not too expensive even though in orange zone. Cons: The location of the hotel is great. Right in the middle of the town centre. Rooms are also clean. However, this hotel is basically only a place to sleep. If you want to get up early in the morning, get out and come only back in the evening this place is good. If you expect a little bit more from a hotel you should look further. This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. Clean but very small rooms and everything a bit dated. I assume the hotel's target guests are larger groups of people who travel through Europe on an all-in basis. This hotel should be downgraded to a 3 star hotel. I would not pay again this amount of money to stay here.

The breakfast is a little expensive, but actually worth it, it is so good and generous. ALL the staff exceptionally friendly. The AC of corse first class. Cons: The one downside to be prepared for is that there is only one single approach to the one public parking area immediately adjacent to the hotel. You must enter through the northern gate to the town with the sign to the Palais Papes Public Parking sign, and the lot is 3 stories, underground , and popular and congested. But after one deals with that, all is well, and the hotel entrance is at the doorstep. The hotel can’t really help that parking availability is what it is.

We understand that it is hard to transform a historical building like this into a comfortable hotel, but they did a nice job maintaining the integrity of the structure while making it relatively comfortable for guests. The front desk staff, Kenza was very pleasant and helpful. The location was amazing-5 minute walk to the Papal palace and the Avignon bridge. There was a rather large parking area but it was expensive to park. It was very quiet in our room and the water pressure in the shower was good. The bed was comfortable, on the firm side which we liked.

Cons: My room at on the top floor which is usually a good thing except for the amount of money I was paying, I could not stand up in the shower to shower because the ceiling was there. I literally had to squat down to shower (I'm 5'11), so I'm not very tall. If I were 4 feet tall then it would have been ok. The sink and mirror for the bathroom were exactly the same issue. Could not stand up to see myself in the mirror. Had to be on my knees to look in the mirror. Also, since my room lacked any windows, the only natural light was from the skylights only a view of the sky through those. Horrible experience for the amount of money I paid for a "standard room"

Cons: We were not impressed by the staff in general. There was a bell person who showed us to our room and seemed pleasant, but never once asked to help us with our bags. We would have carried our own bags, but he should have at least offered. We saw an elderly couple who were forced to carry heavy bags to their room. We also were not impressed with the breakfast. Although there were simple foods; breads, cheeses and fruits, we felt the selection could have been much better. We also had a hard time finding a server there at all. When we came in, we had to seek out a person to ask where to sit. After that, we did not see another server for the 30 minutes we were there. There were tables that had not been cleared. It just seemed as though the staff's attention to detail and hospitality was lacking. We felt the price of the room was too much for the service and room provided.

(no other bars nearby). Not a huge issue, and at these prices who can complain really.

Cons: - the hotel is not the picture as shown on sites, it’s behind this beautiful building and had almost no windows at all - room was really warm - air-condition worked hardly and made a lot of noise - room wasn’t cleaned (was still stuff from previous visitors) - rooms are much smaller then the promised 20m2 -widow faces the air conditioning units so you can’t open them without pulling in noise or hot air - hotel is located beneath a hostel which generates a lot of noise/shouting/music till very late

Cons: the gate for the parking didint work. the elevator didnt work we were on the fourth floor and there was no staff to help because it was 15th of Aug and they were on holiday. there was a mix up over the breakfast we paid for. the bed was only a coach bed it was ok the pillows and bedsheets were clean but the cushions were not it looked like either someone wiped their nose across it or a snail slid across it.

Cons: The bed cover and blanket were not clean. It was as if it was used by the people before us and not washed. The location was a bit far from the city center. It was also a bit of a hassle without a proper reception to leave your bags if you arrived early.

Cons: Lots broken in the room: Shower, shelves, Air-con. Elevator was broken and we had a 4th floor room with a car full of stuff and a dog. Student block also means parties till early hours but no Air-con means window open and so couldnt sleep!

Cons: Room was very filthy. Blanket, bed sheets and towels were full of stains. It smelled bad. Bed was extremelly uncomfortable. There was a lot of mosquitos in the room. A lot of dust on the floor. Actually, the whole buillding was filthy. Also, we didn't feel safe in that neighbourhood.

Cons: Windows facing a busy street and railway track, a bit run down, could be improved, very modest room equipment, offer of weekend breafast is a clear rip off (for 7€/ person = paper bag with biscuites, powder coffee, sugar, teabag and small marmelades...). In the evening the neighborhood is not particularly inviting. Overpriced, due to the July Avignon festival.
