Close to restaurants and nightlife and the interesting red light district.
Tiny room, challengingly steep stairs, noisy neighbors, uncomfortable bed.
The location is amazing.
They engage in false advertising. I booked what I thought was a hotel room as advertised, and they tried to have me stay in a 10 bed hostel style dorm room and refused to cancel my reservation without a large fee when I arrived. 1) They are called "Dam Hotel", not "Dam Hostel" 2) The picture on the kayak.com booking page shows a regular room, not a 10 bed hostel type room 3) On their on website, they state "All rooms at Dam Hotel Amsterdam are comfortable, clean and equipped with modern furniture and one or two beds per room." and the photos they list clearly show this. It's true, in the room fine print on booking.com (where Kayak.com redirected me), in hindsight, it describes a hostel type room. But the Kayak.com booking page, the room photos (on both Kayak and their website), and their website description mentioned nothing of hostel type accommodations. When I explained the situation to Hotel Damn, they stated they had to give me a 70 euro fee for cancelling (note, I booked this online about 15 minutes before I showed up...). Very unsatisfactory experience.
I didn't really care much for hotel comforts, and the fact that this rooms looks more like a jail cell with a tiny bed, certainly no bigger than one. After all, I only sleep there. But I had bites all over my body after staying there. Location is the only thing this place has going for it. Very poor otherwise.
