Pros: Excellent value for money. Andre has everything in place and just superb. A great welcome, with a super room and so quiet, ensuring a great nights sleep. The shower was great, the breakfast was fresh and tasty. We could not have asked for any more, and finally Andre is a great host. Thanks so much.
Cons: Nothing to add.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property was fantastic! It as modern and comfortable while still being warm and inviting. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating. They were helpful and patient with our poor and limited French. They were happy to speak to us in both German and English and gave us a great tour upon our arrival. The kids really enjoyed seeing the farm animals and playing outside. The location is great with close proximity to the city center and fairly good dining. We will stay here again and will recommend it to friends.
Cons: The restaurants within walking distance were just ok. However, it just wasn’t that far of a drive to better dining.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Andre was a wonderful host. The room was very spacious and the price was fair. There was a lovely garden view as well. For food and entertainment options, downtown Metz was within a 10 minute drive.
Cons: Everything was perfect.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was very clean and breakfast was perfect
Cons: Everything perfect
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly hosts who made us feel very welcome and gave us good recomendations for the local area. There was a nice outside seating area looking out onto a well-kept garden. The breakfast was delicious and set you up for a great day. The property and local area was very safe. Our dog was made as welcome as us. I would definitely recommend this property.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very kind hosts
Cons: We missed some cheese for breakfast, but there were enough orther things
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Andre made a big effort to make us welcome - even though I only spoke a little French, he liked the fact that I tried! Lovely big clean room and ensuite, with patio and garden view. Breakfast had fresh croissants and jam, fruit, yogurt.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Meat, cheese and eggs could have been available

Pros: Fantastic little guest house with the most accommodating host. My children loved the way the room was set up and our little dog was so happy in the garden. Breakfast was just beautiful and nothing was too much effort for our hosts. Only regret is that we arrived too late to enjoy their company and beautiful house and gardens.
Hôtel La Citadelle Metz - Mgallery - Metz - Building
2
8,4 Excellent (2 382 reviews)
R2 481+
Overview Reviews
Opened in 2005, Hotel de la Citadelle, near the historic and cultural heart of Metz, is worthy of top recognition for high-end hotels. A large military building, built in 1559 to preserve Metz square, conquered by King Henry II. This simple and pure building has 68 rooms: 2 suites, 4 meeting rooms, 1 lounge bar, 1 gourmet Michelin starred restaurant "le Magasin aux vivres", directed by Christophe Fosse.
5,4 Okay
Pros: Location was good, central for cathedral and main area.
Cons: We found the hotel overpriced for what it was. Average decor, average fittings, nowhere near a 4 star in our experience and twice the price it should have been. No towels or tea provided for our 11yr old (i.e 3 people in room). Extra for parking and breakfast and had I not challenged an extra 20E per night for our dog who was small and didn’t impact anything. Reception staff unfriendly and unhelpful on arrival, thankfully much more polite and helpful on checkout. Would not recommend compared to others available.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful checking in. Several staff spoke English very well. (Something we needed since we didn't speak much French and the trip had been spontaneous so no time to brush up on it.) The location was SUPERB for easily walking to shopping, eating, local venues, and historic tourist attractions. Peaceful and in the middle of things all at the same time.
Cons: Hard to find where to park and then parking was said to be included but wasn't. The shower didn't function as a stand up shower. It was more a sit in tub and spray off.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The position of the hotel and the a la table restaurant
Cons: The room could be more updated
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The tea in the bedrooms was very bad. Give a choice ok exotic( you did) and proper breakfast tea
Cons: See above
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Ideally situated, spacious room, huge and very comfortable bed, nice in-house restaurants.
Cons: Maybe the staff could be that bit more attentive, they sometimes made us feel a bit as a disturbance or distraction. I‘ve seen more contemporary bathrooms.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent! The water left in the room daily and the treats and weather forecast in the evening was nice. Pierre at the front desk was very helpful and knowledgeable. He answered our questions daily as he always seemed to be working.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful, location in Metz It’s super, breakfast was one of the best I’ve experienced
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The building is 500 yrs old and was built as part of a military fort. The rehab is very new and has five star furnishings, finishes, accommodations and services. The staff was ultra friendly and could not have been more helpful. Short stroll to town (5 min) and Metz is very cool.
Cons: Nothing to complain about. And I'm normally a grumpy old man about things
5,8 Okay
Pros: The room was spacious. Good location. Lovely building.
Cons: Could do with a little updating and the room could have been cleaner. There was plenty of parking and it was a shame that we had to pay extra for this.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location and parking
Cons: The air conditioning very noisy
8,8 Excellent
Pros: brilliant location and nice and quiet
Cons: staff were indifferent

5,0 Okay
Pros: Nice location, friendly staff.
Cons: The breakfast. The kitchen was not well organized. They forgot to buy eggs or the pancake mix and there were not anough people to clean the tables and to bring more food so breakfast was to long. And with no eggs or pancakes....

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast. Good WiFi. Gentle staff. Child-friendly. Centrally located. Close to the central station. City center within walking distance.

Pros: Nice hotel. Fantastic stuff. The guy at the reception, Roman, helped us with all we asked about and even more. We also got a very good advice for the dinner restaurant with a discount. Big rooms.
Cons: The breakfast could be organized much better. Lots of things were missing at 9, no cooked eggs, few pancakes left. It took another 15-20 minutes to get new in.
10,0 Excellent

Pros: - big room - powerful conditioner - comfortable chairs - tidy bathroom with useful things - big wardrobe - fresh air
Cons: - no mini-bar - expensive breakfast - located outside the city and Google maps don't know about buses
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We just needed a stay for one night and it was great. If I was going to Metz on business, it would have a great location. It is a little far out to enjoy the town without walking a lot or taking transportation. We drove into town center and parked to have dinner. We had been to Metz before and enjoyed the area down by the cathedral. The staff could not have been nicer. The room was very clean and spacious. High marks
9,6 Excellent

10,0 Excellent
Pros: the parking though 11 euros was excellent right behind the hotel with secure gates and door entrance into lobby
Cons: could have spent longer there
5,8 Okay
Cons: Hotel really needs renovation
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good location, own parking, comfortable rooms, all in all, we like this hotel
Cons: Sorry, but the breakfast selection is a little bit poor ... Unfortunately, this characterises not only this hotel, but characterises all French hotels. There are never any kind of vegetables: no tomatoes, no peppers, no onions, no cucumbers, nothing! There is scrambled egg what made from egg powder... What I hate... This is a fake scrambled egg, what is inedible! You can find cold boiled eggs... I could recommend the French hotel managers to look around at some Italian, Spanish or even Polish, Hungarian or Czech hotels and they will see immediately what a good breakfast is... And in exchange for giving us such weak breakfast, at least they do it very expensive... Never included in the room rate:( This is the truth, once again sorry ...
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Reception staff excellent, really good location.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The entire package
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was particularly helpful and we appreciated the secure parking. The close walking proximity to the Centre Pompidou as well as the centre of the city is very good.

9,5 Excellent
Pros: Good quality bed linen & generous continental breakfast
4,0 Okay
Pros: The location at the historical center
Cons: Cleanliness of the room, the bed covers were stained and not clean. The bath needed improvement as well the closet was clearly an issue. Also they advertise parking. But do not have it. I had to pay my own parking about 700 mtrs from the hotel.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The lady who runs this Hotel is wonderful and so helpful, she has a vast amount of local knowledge and was excellent at answering questions and giving recommendations. The central location is very convenient, and it is much better to walk around the city than to drive.
Cons: As the room we stayed in was overlooking the street it was quite loud in the evening, the room was hot but we were provided with a fan and it was 33C outside so that probably isn't an issue all year round.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Fantactic, helpful staff
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, comfortable and clean room with a great shower. Friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Nil
8,3 Excellent
Pros: As the name suggests, this hotel is very central to all the attractions in the city. On this score, it can't be beaten. The price was very reasonable which compensated for the negatives.
Cons: Reception is on first floor, up steep stairs. Rooms are on second and third floors, up spiral stairs. The rooms and decor are old and tired, although some will pass this off as "character". The window opened onto a street with at least three noisy restaurants. Double glazed windows shut out the noise, but we roasted in Europe's heatwave without air conditioning. There is no storage for bikes. We paid €5/night/bike in nearby underground parking, which was locked at night, but anyone could walk away with the bikes in daytime, as the garage remained open and there was no staff.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, good breakfast, cute rooms.
7,5 Good
Pros: The room was huge. There is a door after you enter the room and you can lock the bedroom.
Cons: There is no lift. I have to climb 5 levels. Luckily I did not have a luggage with me.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location. The hotel was right in the old city. Room charming with some real old retro style. Close to shops and restaurants.
Cons: Hard to get the car in as we where driving. All of inner city closed off with bollards. Bath room tiny. Narrow stairs so hard to get luggage up. No lift.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful welcome with good recommendation for dining and places to visit Hotel is in a great location; easy walking distance to cathedral, shops and restaurants.
Cons: There was some street noise that disturbed some members of our party - the down side of being in such a central location

Cons: Nothing. It was comfortable.
7,9 Good
Pros: Good location and good breakfast
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is very good and location is close to main station.it is very centrally located so it is a bit difficult to find parking place near hotel. But there is a big parkhouse near hotel which cost extra nearly 9 euro perday.
6,3 Good
Pros: Staff was very nice, big thanks to Laurence who took care of us !
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast
7,9 Good
Pros: Good breakfast. Well located in the centre of the town. There is local parking in side streets. Convenient overnight on a touring holiday. Decent room is as the pictures. Quiet despite being on a major junction if you ask for a quiet room. We found a small cafe/restaurant close by in the back streets - Doesn't look much but locals eat there - very good.
Cons: The room was somewhat rather smelly. Opened the windows to clear the air did improve the situation a bit.
7,9 Good
Pros: Location was great to walk out to restaurants and bars and see all of the fabulous architecture Metz had to offer. Good that the hotel offers a voucher for discounted parking.
Cons: No air con in room so it was very warm.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved Metz. The hotel was nice but what made our stay even more special was Aurore, the concierge, who was more than accommodating and friendly. Thank you, Aurore for everything.
Cons: Nothing.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and prompt to help. They speak good English, which is something quite rare to find in Metz. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the breakfast was quite complete and had everything we need.
Cons: The windows are turned to the street, which, for sensitive people like me, can be a tiny bit of a problem with the cars. However, the traffic is not that big, so I was able to sleep peacefully either way. They should consider air conditioning too. The fan is fine, but very loud. Perhaps if we went on the summer, we wouldn't be able to sleep properly because of the heat.

Cons: No air conditioning, typical for European hotels. Parking is terrible- you have to park in a lot that is 5 minutes away from the hotel and hail your suitcases there.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel is a little faded glory. Grand perhaps refers to the number of rooms. We were given a spacious triple room at the quiet courtyard for two people. Oldfashioned furniture, but well maintained and clean. Breakfast was simple, but sufficient and everything was replenished quick. Friendly staff.
Cons: Toilet and bathroom were very small so we hurt ourselves several times at all sorts of corners.

7,5 Good
Pros: Located in an old part of town. Many buildings already renovated, many more in the process of. Many shops closed, business for sale. Hotel good and friendly. Car Park entrance very tight. Received guidance from the receptionist. And she helped me get on line. Good hotel at the price.
Cons: Everything was fine.
4,2 Okay
Pros: Nothing particular
Cons: We booked provided we could secure parking. We had received the answer and they said parking would take 10 Euros. We accepted it. On the day of arrival we found we could not park our car there. What could we do except driving around for two hours to find parking. Many of the parking places were "complet" and at last we found one that cost 17teen euros overnight. We had to walk 15 minutes to go to the parking and drive to the hotel to pick up our luggage. If we had been told it was possible we might not secure parking, there are a lot of other hotels. So our lesson is we will never ever stay at Comfort Hotel.
4,6 Okay
Pros: The location.
Cons: The room was not very clean. My friends' room had a leak in the bathroom sink. The garage was over booked and I had to leave my car keys at the reception where I discovered later there was no one with a driving license able to drive!
7,5 Good
Pros: Location is good and in an historically interesting area. The secure hotel car park is a bonus in this busy city. Helpful staff and our room & bathroom were well-equipped. Over-all, very good value for money.
Cons: No air-conditioning. Our bathroom needed refurbishment. The entry to the car park is narrow, so care must be taken.
7,9 Good
Pros: The staff in reception and around the hotel were extremely helpful. Good advice when it came to sights and car parking received. Our room was basic, however this did not bother us as we weren't there for a long stay. Hotel close to dining options, the impressive and grand railway station and the Pompidou Centre.

5,4 Okay
Pros: Location was handy
Cons: Run down bath rooms, awful courtyard (full of pidgeons), staff were training new hires that wouldn’t even smile upon arrival at reception neither at check in nor checkout - very unwelcoming, overpriced for what it is

Pros: Room was very spacious and light with excellent view. Good location and easy parking close to hotel. People at reception very welcoming and helpful.

7,1 Good
Pros: Location was good if a city centre location - albeit parking is not convenient like most city hotels and price was very fair and refelcted the downsides of that stay
Cons: Room was very small with only less than one metre space on 3 sides of the bed. Probably OK for single occupant but not comfotable for a couple
6,3 Good
Pros: It was calm and the bed was very comfy.
Cons: No shower door.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: the breackfast is excellent
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Continental breakfast - self-serve. As a solo traveller I liked that there was a big TV in the breakfast room - allowing me to try and understand the news (in French, obviously), while eating. Location: Perfect. I was travelling by train so the location near the station was ideal. Also check-out was 12 noon. That was great because my train departed at 12.10.
Cons: Whilst my room was bright, nicely decorated and quiet, the entrance, reception area, staircase and corridors could do with some improvements to make the hotel more inviting.
2,9 Mediocre
Cons: We had to change rooms because we found bugs in the bed, I was doubled charged for “rate adjustment”.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean and quiet. Very good breakfast for a reasonable price. Public parking is available nearby.
Cons: Nothing
4,2 Okay
Pros: O.K.
Cons: Everything. The hotel was very run down. The window in our room overlooked the garbage cans and trash. The halls smelled musty and like old rotting carpets. The elevator was inadequate and could only fit one person and bag at a time and we had to wait for a 20 min. to use this service.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Near lots of restaurants, the train station was across the street. Had a window facing the train station and the water tower. Thank you it was lovely to look out.
Cons: Hot water service for tea or coffee in room would be a lovely addition.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very good location
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
5,4 Okay
Pros: Personel was very friendly and helpful
Cons: The room smelled of cigarettes
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient for me as my daughter is studying and living at Georgia Tech, Lorraine which is in Metz Technopôle. The staff is very friendly, the property is clean overall, food is good with nice menu options. The surrounding greenery and lake are beautiful ! Easy commute to city centre with multiple bus stops around the hotel, all within 5 mins walking distance.
Cons: Because the property has a lot of greenery around, there are spiders and cobwebs... and the cleaners somehow don’t clean the cobwebs on the walls and therefore the spiders keep coming back.. it wasn’t disruptive as such, but not a good sight. The cleaners must clean up the cobwebs diligently
7,5 Good
Cons: For the leisure traveller breakfast finished a little early at 9am. I was only allowed to eat at 9.20am as I had already paid. It was a rushed breakfast and they were clearing away the buffet as I ate. The manager did ask first but as a guest I felt I was in their way.
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: The receptionist was very polite, attentive and had knowledge of the area.
Cons: The room was basic, old paint flaking off, bins outside room full of beer cans. carpet thick with grime.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was on the way to the euro tunnel. It is an excellent hotel and have been going to the hotel for many years. The food quality is great and the room is comfortable.
Cons: The hotel is looming a hit run down. All it needs doing is the paint work. Apart from that it was good
5,4 Okay
Pros: A comprehensive breakfast was available.
Cons: Not a hotel.... box like rooms with metal shutters. Rather expensive for the ‘superior’ rooms.
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: An awful looking hotel in the middle of nowhere.
Cons: Everything
7,1 Good
Pros: Pleasant location with a nice outlook. Good parking. Not far from the motorway and services.
Cons: Maybe it’s just me but I didn’t sleep well and generally don’t sleep well at Campanile hotels, I don’t know why. I’m not comfortable with the general layout of these hotels I guess, I worry about security with the rooms opening directly on to a park. However I’ve never experienced any negative issues related to this so I guess it just my feeling about it.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very comfotable staff were lovely all in all very good value.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Room is very comfortable and warm. Bathroom is new and clear. Wi-Fi is good. Tea and coffe at the room. I will recommend this hotel to my colleagues.
Cons: Only TV program on French.

7,1 Good
Pros: Basic and convenient for motorway. Located in new suburb so boring surroundings but a number of restaurants around and a big supermarket and petrol station near by. Did the job for a motorway stop.
Cons: Compared to other hotels of the same price, tight on space.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Good for a night over when travelling, I arrived at 1.30 AM and there was still an OK receptionist to welcome me! For a cheap hotel that's good. I left at 8 Am again so only there to sleep and shower.
Cons: Real plates in stead of plastic throw away cups and cuttlery. A good decent baguette would have been nice as well.
7,5 Good

Located 5 minutes from the St Etienne de Metz cathedral and the town center, it is the perfect p lace to visit Metz and its historic center. Easy access from the A31 highway.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, very good breakfast Good location.
Cons: A bit tired decor.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was quiet. The walk to the sites is pleasant. The breakfast was very good. The beds were very comfortable. There was a bathtub!
Cons: It was a long walk from the train station!
7,9 Good
Pros: Location was great. All major attractions were within walking distance and as you need to cross over the river to get to the hotel and around, it is imossible to miss the picturesque scenery. The staff were very nice and friendly.
Cons: For longer stays I would prefer rooms / bathrooms to be and to look cleaner. I never liked the bathroom curtains which quickly get damp and look old and when I see them in hotel bathrooms, I try not to use the shower - which is OK for a night's stay. A brief renovation in the bathrooms would be great.
6,3 Good
Pros: Near to the center.
Cons: The hotel is worn.
7,5 Good
Pros: good beds and aircondition in the room. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. Is very close to City center, which easely can be reached by food. The breakfast is good. It's possible to rent a parking place in nearby garage.
Cons: It was a compact room we rented, but 2 persons can stay without problems.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Staff were very welcoming
Cons: Hotel was very dated and smelt like an elderly care home. Parking is terrible
7,9 Good
Pros: The Ibis Metz was more business type hotel. The room was clean and comfy but it looked “used”. The bathroom needed a good updating. The toilet seat was cracked and needed replacing, we notified the front desk. I get the feeling the French do things on their own timeline, so I’m not sure when it would get done.
Cons: Cracked toilet seat. Shower head had to be wedged to work right.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We left my wifes make-up bag in the room when we checked out and didn't realize it till we got home in Germany. I then called and Ambre (I think) was extremely helpful as she found it quick and then went the extra mile and had it mailed back to us. GREAT customer service!
Cons: The breakfast room was a bit crowded and we thought needed a bit more staff.
7,1 Good
Pros: Location, and very friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Small and tatty room and an uncomfortable bed
