Everything it couldn't have been more perfect, from the room to the food and staff.
A microwave in the room is needed.
Being huge fans of HG we enjoyed our stay, albeit out of a sense of loyalty and not necessarily because things went according to plan. The views, quality of the food/wine, and the quality of the room were all fantastic - as usual.
This was our 5th visit to HG and it was a shame to see that the management of the Dinner service had lost it's shine a bit. Although the food and wine flight were fantastic, the service seemed to be a bit frantic and unfortunately, at times, attention to detail was lost. On numerous occasions the food came to the table but with no cutlery, the wine flight came out before the food, and a couple of dirty glasses. At one point (although hilarious for us), hard core dance music was piped into the dining room. We found it funny but the more discerning guest may have found it inappropriate. Coffee then a wait for the petit fours (a bit disjointed). Tables that had been cleared were left as they were and not re-dressed so looked a bit scruffy (like last orders at the pub). By the end of the evening there was a feeling that we didn't get the whole value for money for the dining experience that you may have got in neighbouring restaurants (of similar cost and profile). It was also apparent that a 'chef's table' experience was running concurrently, I suspect that the added pressure of this and a full dining room proved a bit of a stretch. Could have been mitigated with an extra member of staff? All of the above was remedied by the staff, but we did feel a bit sorry for them, as it seemed like they were trying to manage things as best as possible under pressure. In the morning, our breakfast came to our room 15 mins before checkout as the breakfast order card had been misplaced during the night. Probably my fault for giving it to a member of staff and not hanging it on the door as instructed - slap on wrist for me. Breakfast had obviously been rushed and was nowhere near the quality of the previous visits. Having said all this, we still enjoyed our stay. We laughed a lot of the issues off and have a pragmatic appreciation that sometimes things go wrong. But, at £500 a night (all in), these issues should be few and bar between.
Loved staying at this gorgeous property. We were allocated a large comfortable room with panoramic views over the lake. The staff were friendly and welcoming.I would recommend and plan to return.Glad I ignored the negative reviews.
The food for what we received was overpriced.
