Mansion & Home Margaritis - Portaria - Building
1
9,4 Excellent (495 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Situated in scenic Makrinitsa, this traditional hotel is housed in a Pelion mansion, built back in 1848. The carefully restored Mansion Margaritis features rooms with fireplace, a breakfast room and a bar. Wi-Fi is free. Rooms are decorated with traditional furniture. The beamed wood ceilings, rugs and the traditional fireplace offer a warm and homely feel. Most enjoy beautiful views of Mount Pelion and the Pagasitikos Gulf. The mansion's restaurant prepares regional recipes and offers excellent wines from its cellar. Continental breakfast is served daily. Mansion Margaritis is 17 km from Volos, and only 12 km from Pelion Ski Resort. Free private parking is provided on site.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location is in a quiet village with a magnificent view over the Volos town. The entire location has modern facilities but with an antic aspect. The designer made a great job, when you stay there it’s like a travel in time.
Cons: The parking is down the hill, you should go approx 100 steps to a narrow path. Is better to travel light, otherwise will be a little difficult to get your luggages in the room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I highly recommend this place to those who appreciate real home-made breakfast and hearty hospitality. Combined with stunning views of the bay and the city of Volos, as well as the authentic atmosphere of the ancient Pelion house, the stay will leave unforgettable memories for everyone who visited the Mansion Margariti
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Traditional building with a lot of atmosphere, located high on the slope with great views over Volos bay. The building and all the interior evoke with fidelity the traditional Greek mountain houses, from the thick masonry walls, rough plaster to the wood furniture and stone roof. The hosts are warm, dedicated and heartily and they do everything they can to treat their clients at best. Breakfast was prepared with warm heart and lot of effort by the lady of the house: we had to leave quite early and warm packed breakfast awaited us in the morning as a take away - it was a great way to say goodbye to this nice property and their care-keepers.
Cons: An extra blanket in the room.

Pros: Extra traditional mansion in a great location. With an awesome view, from the yard and the room, of the Pagasitic Gulf. Delicious coffee and breakfast is served in the garden of the mansion every morning, with local specialities included. The hospitality of Mr. Stefanos and Ms. Vicky is exceptional. Totally recommended an would definitely visit the place again.

Pros: The hosts are a couple of amazing people, it has been an honor to meet them. The property is in superb location 2 minute walk from the central square of Makrinitsa. Places of interest are within walking distance. We left our vehicle in the parking and just forgot about it. Makrinitsa is the place to be!!! The property is extremely well maintained and extremely clean. Warm water was available 24hrs a day. Bed sheets were conditioned and clean, spotless. When you are at the property ask the landlord of the properties history which was first built in 1858!!! There are no words to describe the breakfast, make sure you include it!!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything. The hosts are extremely kind, helpful and warm-hearted people who take care of the comfort of their guests at any time when you look for them. Breakfast is only with home-cooked meals and fresh produce, extremely hearty. The house is authentic and you really go back in time, without missing out on modern conveniences. I would again visit the place with pleasure.
Cons: There's nothing I don't like.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We spent a wonderful week here. The owners are so lovely, kind-hearted and helpful people. The house and the village are amazing, they have a really special atmospehre. Our room with a sea view was simple perfect, and very clean. We got a home-made excellent breakfast every morning and after great recommedation for daily planning; where to go, what to see, where to eat. We spent days by the seaside and had hiking days too, but there are many nice places, many opportunities in Pelion.. it’s like a little treasure. I absolutely recommend Archontiko Reapa for everyone, who would like to jump out for a little from the rush of daily life and enjoy the beauty of the nature with a real Greek hospitality.
Cons: -

Also the host - Demi and Stelos are very welcome to recommend you the best one to see :) Enjoy!

Pros: Above all; the mountain view. You can see Volos city from above, the village of Makrinitsa, and a glimpse of Mount Pelion. Staff were very helpful in planning our activities and hikes. The room was also quite a beauty, with a classical look. Free parking just across the street. Wonderful shops next to the hotel.
Cons: Late October it was a bit chilly at night and heater wasn’t working. Reception is not available 24/7 (they close from 12:30 AM to 8:00 AM) - however, they handed us hotel keys if we want to be late, and promised to wait until 1:00 AM if we’re late for check-in. WiFi was quite weak and unsecured. Breakfast was a bit boring with limited choices (their local Nutella is stunning though!)

Cons: Breakfast can improve , room is a bit small
7,5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: I booked a "executive double room with panoramic view" and my room was changed to a bigger room BUT at the back of the hotel with a street view. When I asked for the room I booked, I was informed that my room was no longer available. Be careful to get what you booked!

Cons: The lack of parking
6,0 Good
Cons: The receptionist
9,2 Excellent
Pros: We have visited Volos for a conference and stayed in Volos Palace for 6 days. Both, relatives and the organizers of the Conference recommended this Hotel. It is the best in Volos and I highly recommend it. Our room was spacious enough and super clean. The staff was very attentive, smiley. They will make you feel like home (from Housekeeping to Reception and Restaurants). Breakfast options were satisfying (everyday they offer new additions - however some of them were too cold). We also attended a Gala Dinner there, the food was nice. The Hotel is conveniently located in the city centre (attractions and the waterfront area are reachable by foot).
Cons: The rooms need refurbishing. However, as the Housekeeping Department does a good job, you can forget about it and feel very comfortable. Lighting in the room was not so good. More attention to detail is needed.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and professional personnel at a very nice hotel in the heart of the city. High recommended
Cons: The matress was a bit harder than the preferable
6,3 Good
Pros: The architecture of the building, the lobby and the bar, good location
Cons: Very unfriendly receptionist, most of the items from the breakfast were not fresh and not tasty, we do not recommend the house wine, the carpet in the room was very, very dirty, we had no handle to the door of the minibar so we did not realize there was one, they have no parking and the cars are parked on a public place.
5,6 Okay
Pros: Ideal location for the port and shops. Easy to get to by coach, train or car as we did and the hertz office is just over the main road from the hotel. The staff are all very helpful, especially the reception staff.
Cons: Our shower door fell off its runners because it wasn't fitted correctly and the breakfast coffee was really poor.

7,5 Good
Pros: dream location, very clean and well maintained, host very ok.
Cons: water problems ... I did not have bathing water and personal needs in the evenings and in the morning.
7,5 Good
Pros: The view is magnificent. Rooms are VERY clear, cozy... Bathroom - exceptionally clean.
Cons: Location of the hotel. You should NOT use Google Maps or navigation since you will end up going through veeeery narrow streets between houses... We came by night and it was even more frustrating. There is a road (a bit longer, but much better) but google won't take you that way. We've came on a day of the local holiday so it was very noisy (after midnight) but that was just our bad luck. I'm sure I would have better experience if I came by day and on a regular day. Hosts in the morning were not very pleasant. We had to leave early and we were not offered "take-away" breakfast which was included in the price.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The little village is beautiful.
Cons: We had to walk about 300-400 meter to get to the hotel. many stairs, no lift. No help from owner.very poor breakfast.no hot water to shower.

Pros: We stayed at the Archontiko building which is a big old house with the characteristic architecture of the area, fully renovated but still fully maintaining its charm. Our room was at the top floor. The floor has a very nice living room setup in the common area which opens to a balcony with a wonderful view of the city of Volos and the bay below. Very relaxing! The bathroom is worth mentioning as it is big and it can is accessible behind two cupboard doors; opening them might feel like going to Narnia

Cons: Beds were stiff, not what you would expect from a 5 star (or 4 star, come to think of it!).

Pros: Very nice hotel with great view (make sure you get a sea view room). They slightly renovated it by changing the carpets which previously were in really bad shape.
Cons: Some of the woods in the room also need improvement.
