Beautiful place! Very green, pretty gardens and rice field view. At night I loved to listen to the frogs and insects. It's a beautiful view at sunrise over the rice fields with the birds and ducks. Loved the outdoor shower with a view too! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the afternoon tea and basket of fruit that included many varieties. Shuttle service much appreciated and available rather quickly for dropoff or pickup. In spite of the shortcomings, I'd likely visit again for a few days if I felt secure in the room.
Not an easy room to live in. Insecure. Door to room difficult to lock/unlock yet not secure when locked from inside. Poor lighting. Inadequate AC. No easy place to plug in devices for charging as outlets near all horizontal surfaces are already in use. No coffee/tea DIY in room. No fan on balcony so can be very hot with no relief. Can still hear the roar of traffic from bustling streets in town, all day and all night. Closet and bag stand are located in the outside bathroom so all will be 100% humid and hot. Bathroom doors lock from bedroom side which is good for security, something I'm quite aware of due to several personal experiences of attacks & thefts during my travels (including in Bali). However I was locked in the bathroom at night accidentally as the lock stays in automatic lock mode when the door is opened and re-closed. I had had to open a window and call out for help to be rescued! That was a bit difficult as both the gate to the house and to the room lock with a wooden bar on the inside across double doors. Suggest replacing the bathroom doorknob with one that will come open and STAY unlocked when the bathroom door is opened. It could be relocked once back inside the bedroom. Lucky for me the Futbol game was over and my room was near reception! And also that the fasteners to secure the bedroom door to the outside at top and bottom don't work well, so the door wasn't actually secure as it could be rattled, the bolts would fall down so the door could be pushed open.
It is interesting place, nice views and surroundings, with authentic architecture and Suite inside style. It is really spacious, but divided into 3 floors, so it is difficult to be together. It makes really good impression on arrival, but later you began to feel and concentrate mainly another points. Breakfast was good served and nice choice. But such option we can get in private properties commonly in Bali, nothing special. It is not far ( 800-900 m) from Monkey forest, can walk yourselves. Pleasant staff, but... some details below.
We have really some very serious negative points, that we should know before booking. And than never would book it if know. -Our Cendrawish Suite is the most expensive option in Alam Jiwa, but there is NO air conditioning inside. Our family wakes up absolutely wet because even at night its very hot weather. - the is no closed roof (from walls to roof on sides are wide open spaces), so you have unexpected guests every night. We had big lizard, 50-60 cm long, inside catching big insect on the roof. Next evening we had scorpion on the floor near tne bed, my husband noticed and kill, before I stepped on it. We didn’t know what expect more inside...snake, monkey or others more. Insects can fly inside, you really need to go sleep under bed’s net, because you never feel safe and comfortably even in bed. - even they declare, but they really don’t have safe in the room. You can keep your important things in the reception general safe??? (how it could be together with their things- passports, money, cards, insurance), but it is closed from 22:00, so you depend on them then. And you can not keep it in suite, because it is absolutely open and staff can come when they prefer. - we’ve got welcome fruit plate with lot of fruits, we left 4 big mango for kids to eat in the evening, but after housekeeping they were stolen or stolen. We informed reception, but fruits weren’t replaces. - long distance to town centre, we tried to go one time on foot, it is not relaxing. You can use free shuttle, but it is not on time sometime. But it is better than taxi, which is expensive in Ubud. - swimming pool was too much chilly, comparing to weather temperature. - it is very very expensive comparing to facilities, location and service you get. We stayed in the 4 and 5 stars hotels for the same price in Bali. After such experience we had to change our stay place.
Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Serene and beautiful garden and surrounds, close to nature and a lovely pool. Beautiful and inspiring building. Thank you so much for making our stay in Ubud so special.
We returned to Alam Jiwa after 10 years. It did not disappoint. We loved everything. The staff, the incredible surroundings, the breakfast... I could go on. The village is a little more developed now, but still maintains its relaxed charm and has plenty dining and spa options. We will be back for sure!
Nice location, quiet, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast; nice large rooms with view; highly recommended.
