The room was dirty and cramped. The tatami stenched dreadfully like it hadn't been changed in decades. The room was basically nothing but the futon. Rolling it aside wasn't a good idea as beneath it dirt and loose hair was revealed. The stench was the worst part. You got used to it after some time but every time you left the room and came back it hit you again. Best way to summarize is to say that we avoided going to the toilet just because the idea of having to acclimate to the smell anew was so henious. I don't know why some have written good reviews as they cannot be true. Seeing (and smelling) some other open rooms I came to the conclusion that they were all the same.
They have TV and fridge in the single rooms -- Japanese style with futon beds and tatami floor.
They don't separate men's and women's restrooms. Being a woman, this is the first time in my life I had to go to a restroom that has urinals in it. Ugh. Even though the hotel name has Asakusa on it, it's quite a far walk from the center of attraction in Asakusa -- the Sensoji temple, Nakamise street, etc. It's also quite a walk from the nearest train station, Minami Senju, about 1 km away. Ok if you don't carry heavy lugagge with you; otherwise well... But they do have bus stops nearby, one can bring you straight to Tokyo Station.
I liked that the hotel provides yukata for the customers. There is a password system if you come late. Overall, it feels safe to stay in the area.
The location is quite far from the city center, and I think the price should be lower with such long distance. The refrigerator in the room has weird smells. The toilet did not have spray system, so it's a bit uncomfortable.
Personnel are very kind and friendly, they also know English (which is a rarity in Japan). Rooms are clean and there are free Yukata inside to use. Showers are clean, there are lots free stuff for use (hair dryer, little oven, etc). The price is very good for Tokyo. 5 min away from a metro station.
There were a strange smell on the room and towels. Also it is far from Asakusa for walking. It takes 20 minutes to reach Sensoji Temple by walk.
The location was great, I like Minami Senju
