The ambiance, the pool, the friendliness. The location. We were able to travel everywhere using public transportation which allowed us to see more of the city.
All was fine
The location is strategically positioned to access popular attractions but is in a more residential area. The staff are very accommodating and seem more alert and resourceful than at national chain hotels. The old style Hollywood theme is well executed and consistent throughout. There are events for young people to socialize, and lighthearted guests enjoy the excellent beer selection out by the pool. The restaurant is an A++ for a hotel, with its nutritious, fresh and varied menu, presented by experienced servers. The lotion, soap and hair products are well chosen and tasteful. Housekeeping was irreproachable.
The events in the lobby over Halloween were a bit noisy and intrusive, crowding the common areas. The water in the shower had lower pressure and was not as hot as in our cheap Airbnb in Tijuana. A good shower is an important feature during travel. In general the bathroom was cheap: fiberglass “tiles” in the shower, oxidizing chrome light fixture, worn faucets. The beat up lobby floors and furniture pass for shabby chic right now, but need refreshing desperately within the year. Hopefully there will be budget for that, as the hotel has a lot going for it.
The hotel was great. Our room was a quite large king room on the first floor, but at the back of the hotel. The front of the hotel was great for rideshare (Uber, Lyft) or taxi pick up (either on the street or directly in the driveway). My partner and I were in town for my best friend's wedding. He and his partner were in a pool side room, which was a nice but small standard room. His sister, mom and other friend were sharing a standard room on the second floor with 2 queen beds. Again, that room was small. But the jewel of the hotel was THE POOL!! It is wonderful! Lots of sun and there are umbrellas if you prefer shade. They serve food and drinks poolside. Great location. Good Russian resto across the street and fantastic Mexican a couple blocks west. Will definitely stay here again.
The bathroom in our room was a bit dated. TV was at an odd placement. Not much else.
Quite interesting hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Pool atmosphere is special. Has history. Parking is good. Restaurants and shops nearby.
No fridge in the room
Breakfast was outstanding. Staff exceptional. Room great.
