The pickup staff did their best in a bad situation (limited cars). The return staff was very helpful and friendly.Cons:
The terminal counter was closed and there weren't enough clerks in the garage area, to which we were redirected. They ran out of mid-sized cars and they initially wanted to put me in a tiny, Yugo-looking, thing. I pushed hard and got a Jeep; great. Upon returning it, the clerk noted some dings on the roof. I assured her, that I'd not placed anything up there nor parked under a tree or awning. I also noted the pickup clerk had not checked the roof, so there was no way to know when the supposed damage (I couldn't see any dings) occurred. They nonetheless sent me a damage report and it was only after pushing back that they waived it "because you're such a valued customer." Yeah, right. Absolutely nothing. Worst rental experience of my life. Car was dirty upon pickup. Had to make a few changes to my itinerary and their customer service line was busy or disconnected. It automatically more than doubled my charges. When I left a poor review at Avis, I was contacted by a customer service manager who said he would credit me back $200...and after 3 follow up emails over the course of 2 weeks, he has not responded. At th me curb, the PDX airport employee told me that Payless’ shuttle shows up “about every 30 minutes”, and this was at 2pm. I tried to call Payless, multiple times, and found it impossible to talk to any person at all. I just wanted to let them know I was waiting. So I simply walked away from the reservation.
