The facilities at the hotel were great. The rooms were a bit tired and not that clean and the staff lacked training when it came to customer service. Staff seemed unsure a lot of the time, missed the little things and seemed overwhelmed particularly at breakfast time. Reception staff very rigid and uncompromising when we arrived totally soaking and covered in mud after mountain biking and wanted into our room 40 mins early. Used the pool showers and took all of our luggage down with is only to be told 20mins later when we came back to reception that the room was now ready. More the manner of the staff at reception. No smiling, not welcoming, not helpful. The spa staff were lovely and couldnt do enough for is which really helped us feel welcome and looked after us until our room was ready. Things missing from the menu and not informed until ordering. Tables left uncleared, dance music being played rather loudly at breakfast. No table service at breakfast? Fine but had to run around to find someone for a decaf coffee as not put out. Just lots of little things guys that then leave a big impression. You have a great place in a super location with the peebles hydro as your main competition. You need to up your game and run a tighter ship.
The pool area was very nice.
Small things let it down. Attention to detail. The safe in the room wasn’t working, batteries missing and no cover. Tv remote control, batteries exposed, cover missing. Odd glasses in the room next to ice bucket. These are small things but to me demonstrate that standards are being allowed to slip. A lack of care.i enjoyed my stay and room was excellent.
The hotel was lovely, the meal we had there was nice and the bed was so comfortable.
How expensive food and drink was. I realise it is a higher end hotel, but starting prices for a sandwich at £13 is so extreme. We went down the road into town and there were a few nice places to eat and drink that were a lot more reasonably priced.
Location as it is near to the mountain resort of Glentress
Restaurant menu was very poor. Not enough choice and only 3 or 2 course meals available. No good if you only want a main course and you want a choice. Bar menu was also limited and not much of it but the food was lovely. The hotel from the outside looks grotty. Could do with a paint. Inside is ok tho. The hotel accepts dogs and my husband is allergic so he did suffer with sneezing. Hotel should provide you with a room that has not had a dog in it and should also tell you upon booking that the room may have had dog in it. Probably wouldn't have stayed there if had known this.
Spa and pool
I tried to order a sirloin steak however there was none left! We were the first in the dining room that night!
