Pros: Nice breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. Lots of wildlife in the resort; sloths, monkeys, parrots, lizards... Great service overall!

Pros: Amazing hotel! Beautiful property, fantastic views. We paid an upgrade to Vista Suite and adored it. Staff was very friendly and helpful, we especially like Jeffrey who was just greatч
Cons: Food and drinks are pretty expensive. 11$ for a glass of wine. Also service during dinners was very slow.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: magnificent location, extremely helpful, hospitable and attentive staff, very good food.
Cons: the bathrooms in the room are quite old and would benefit from renovation works.
5,7 Okay
Cons: I forgot some things at my room at check-out. I came back 2 hours later and asked for them. They told me to wait while they got them. After 1.5 hours of waiting I just couldn´t get my things back and lost 1.5 hours of my day waiting. I kept asking what happened and they always said 2 more minutes. So I ended up spending 1.5 hours of my weekend in the lobby arguing with the employees for them to tell me we can´t give you your things back

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Best customer service from a hotel, ever ! Sebastian and Jordan are friendly and super helpful. Nelson, the manager, went above and beyond for us. Plaza Yara really shines as a boutique hotel in every way. The rooms are huge, the showers amazing, the private balconies looking into the jungle supreme, the pools exceptional in cleanliness w more chance to see birds. The breakfast so nice and delish (chocolate pancakes ! YUM!) Art gallery by one prolific artist. We left w a painting and some ceramic hand painted geckos and frogs. Long live Yara. My highest compliments. I didn't shut up about its charm the rest of my trip. Was sad I did not have longer to spend there.
Cons: not one thing to complain about, not one

Pros: Best service at a hotel, EVER ! Sebastian and Jordan were lovely and helpful. Nelson (the manager) went above and beyond for us. Thanks again ! Really lives up to the boutique in "boutique hotel" Lovely giant rooms w amazing showers. Wonderful private viewing areas into the jungle. Nice clean pools offer yet another bird viewing area. Breakfast delicious (chocolate pancakes!) as was coffee. Awesome gallery w art by one prolific artist. We bought quite a few things here. I did not shut up about the amazing service and charm of this place for the rest of my trip. Sets the bar high. I only got to spend 3 nights total here and was pining for more. I absolutely adored it !
Cons: zero complaints

Pros: The restaurant was closed (which was not mentioned) I was there with my girlfriend and we wanted a romantic early breakfast, instead we had a pool exercise class going on right in front of us . The instructor was yelling his instructions . Absolutely a “buzz kill”
Cons: Restaurant on site was closed. Which was not mentioned prior to booking. Had to do unnecessary traveling for diner. And a lot of grounds was closed due to maintenance.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location great staff ; very spacious apartment
Cons: Breakfast could have started earlier given early morning tours
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful. Apartments are large with good living/kitchen area. Pool was great. Views of the Pacific from the pool are stunning. Kids loved the self designed pancakes for breakfast.
Cons: The lift directly to the apartment opened unannounced a few times, with people in the lift. This was a little concerning regarding security.

Pros: Such a beautiful property I will definitely be back!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was excellent. Beautiful views from the pool. Lovely sunsets. Very spacious living space.
Cons: Private beach had no surf.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We got an enormous apartment. Spot clean, all the imaginable facilities and amenities in the apartment and in the hotel. We stayed for one night, but would be an exciting experience for several relaxing days. Very close to the Manuel Antonio national park.
Cons: Nothing.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The 3 bedroom appartement was beautifully designed and very confortable with 2 bathrooms, a terrace, 3 balconies, an equipped kitchen and nice living room. The service is great and beachtowels are easily provided. The pool is beautiful and the small beach wild. We enjoyed yoga classes on the yoga platform and unfortunately we missed the free cooking classes
Cons: The proposed activities through third parties on the website were a little disappointing, for example the catamaran for whale watching embarked almost 100 visitors.
7,0 Good
Pros: This was our second visit to this resort, and as usual, the staff is always attentive and friendly. Nature, staff and pool area and room size will always be the highlights.
Cons: I was very disappointed this time with several things that were extra points the first time: 1) master bedroom had a TERRIBLE humidity smell 2) master bedroom bathroom didn´t have a trash can 3) master bedroom shower had moss and black stains - cleaning is definitey not properly done 4) no extras in the fridge as before, we were looking to have some drinks at the apartment as we didnt have time to stop by 5) breakfast was still good but it was a big disappointment not to be told in advance when making the reservation that their restaurant was out of service, it was an inconvenient with a baby to go out and look for a place to have dinner and lunch 6) in the main level, the area to the right, nearby the elevator, smelled terrible, not sure if it was the bathroom area, but I just couldn´t stand the smell when I had to go upstairs

Pros: Great location. Excellent Breakfast. Huge apartment layout. Elevator opens into your suite.
Makanda by The Sea Hotel - Adults Only - Manuel Antonio - Bedroom

9,3 Excellent (712 reviews)
R6 518+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Makanda by the Sea in Manuel Antonio, you'll be on the waterfront, within a 15-minute walk of Playitas Beach and Biesanz Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
6,0 Good
Pros: Makanda hotel is beautiful. It looks like an art piece in the middle of a beautiful jungle with some amazing wildlife around it. The breakfast is really good, the Eggs Benedict dish was amazingly good! Dinner was also pretty good, although over-priced IMO. Leo from the front desk is SUPER! Funny and pleasant with a really good attitude. Javier and Johnathan, the bell boys, will give you a great service as well. The sound system in the room is very nice!
Cons: Unfortunately, with the beautiful design, comes a lack of practicality, and lots of it... The hotel is built on hilly area with crazy slopes and very slippery roads. So to get in/out of our room, you almost always have to call a golf car. During rain, there is no chance you could do it without it (and it rains every evening). The driver will tell you that you can always use the service, but in fact, it is available only on a certain time period, and after a few times we really felt uncomfortable to order it. Keep in mind that the way to some of the rooms is extremely dark at night and you could easily stumble. The room has a shower, but without a door, so whenever you take a shower, be prepared to make the whole bathroom floor wet. The room has electrical curtains, but they won't close fully due to their length, and there is no way to avoid the sun in the morning because the curtains are translucent. The room service was a bit incompetent. When I called to get two robes, it felt like it was too much to ask because, apparently, only the spa has robes (that had oily smell stick to them). The spa area supposedly has the most beautiful view in the hotel, but you will have access to it and its facilities only if you make a reservation for a rediculous expensive treatment. To use the "natural" sauna, you'll have to make a reservation 5 hours in advance because they have to burn woods for you to use it. The hotel has wifi around the property, but in almost every location the wifi strength was low. The room TV is old and without any smart TV capabilities. Generally, we had a good experience, but we feel that we paid for a luxurious hotel, while getting an average hotel experience.

Pros: Incredible hotel. Perfect for a honeymoon. Everything about it exceeded my expectations from the rooms to the wildlife to the food to the staff. Could not recommend enough.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is nothing short of exceptional. We stayed in Villa 9 and it was the nicest hotel "room" I have ever stayed in. The breakfast omelette is a 10! The sushi bar at the second pool is a 10. The staff is a 10. Makanda cocktail is a 10. Lounge swings at the pool a 10. Wildlife sitings on the grounds are epic. We cannot wait to come back here.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Private beach (you get there in a golf cart), AMAZING pool views (from both of them), unbelievable (and spacious) rooms and incredible wild life encounters.
Cons: It was a bit tricky to find good price/quality places to eat outside the hotel. Manuel Antonio can be quite expensive for casual dining.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The service and the facility were excellent

Pros: Loved seeing the toucans, monkeys, macaws while we were eating lunch.
Cons: Door was hard to lock, close, etc

Cons: Thunderstorm but not sure the hotel has a line to Him upstairs !!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: What a fantastic hotel! Since we arrived to the hotel everything was amazing. The staff was nice, the Check In process was quick, we got a welcome drink and they took us to our room which was ready before the Check In time. The room was really big and had a private hot tub, and the shower is huge. We had some kind of living room, that was really nice to hang out and watch a movie before going to bed while still hearing to monkeys from outside! lovely experience. The view from our room was breathtaking and it was fun to wake up into it. The staff was beyond amazing and helped us with all we need. You can really trust the guards at the parking lot - they was super nice and let us know that we left one of our car windows open. A minor thing that we found really helpful is the laundry service! Free, fast and made our life much easier. The pool area and the private beach is fantastic - clean, comfortable and has a lot of space to rest.
Cons: That we didn't had more time at the hotel
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Most friendly and knowledgeable staff I’ve ever encountered. They all remembered our names and wee incredibly helpful and kind. Beautiful property. Lots of fun activities and a great beach for chillaxing.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Incredible location. Amazing staff. Exceptional service. Delicious food. Sustainable and eco friendly. Beautiful property. Located where the rainforest meets the ocean. Magical place.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice combination of shade and sun. Lounge chairs and hammocks.
Cons: The beach is kind of steep so the lounge chairs were difficult to keep level so you didn't feel like you were sliding out. A wedge for leveling would be a nice amenity

Pros: Beautiful property. Private beach. Situated on edge of jungle. Lots of wildlife viewing onsite. Laundry services and a la carte breakfast included.
Cons: very steep, narrow road to enter.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing!!! The rooms, the food, the view everything! We stayed for 3 nights I wish we'd stayed longer, not only did we have an amazing room etc but when we we're lying around the pool there were monkeys an array of birds and a sloth! It was just amazing would recommend this hotel to anyone.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The facilities were beautiful. The staff was amazing.
Cons: There's no real separation between the toilet and the room. Fine for us, but some may not like it. There was a separate bathroom right outside.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view ! Food was excellent, worth every penny. Staff is very friendly and helpful, specially Alexander! He made sure we were happy the entire time. The beds were so comfy , my husband wanted to bring one home.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Small personal attention was great. Very clean throughout.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms, ocean view, staff was friendly, owner was friendly and helpful, private access to beach, nice pool, good cocktails.
Cons: The omelette in the breakfast.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The room was just incredible! Panorama view of the ocean (and sunset) overlooking the jungle. Amazing pool and sunlounge area with great views, excellent pool. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great, evetything very clean. Shuttle service to beach and shopping area. There are only few rooms therefore there is no mass tourism.
Cons: Lunch and Dinner is much too expensive. But very good quality of food.
4,2 Okay
Pros: View and location
Cons: Most everything, old hotel, ants all over the place, including our bed. Insanely over priced coffee in the room ($33 for four capsules of coffee...) And on. Really, unless you have no other choice...
7,9 Good
Pros: - very nice and spacious room with a truly fantastic view - staff very helpful for organizing trips - nice pool area
Cons: The room rates are actually like a 5* hotel, but the hotel fails to deliver on certain element in accordance with that pricing level, eg - breakfast only with cheap filter coffee (if u wanna have a proper coffee, that makes $5 extra) - overall the breakfast was good, but as it’s a la carte, the choice isn’t to broad - this was the first hotel in my life where the coffee machine in the room did cost money ($2,5 for a filter coffee, $5 for a capsule coffee) Overall, I think that the hotel management is trying to squeeze out some money from their guests where it’s actually a bit ridiculous
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing! Staff was great. Amazing view!!!! Loved it
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Ilvo, who is the personable, warm owner, and his staff, were exceptional. They made us feel like we were at home. They encouraged us to explore and they served our every need. The staff was so kind and willing to please. Thanks Luis Carlo, Francisco and Grindr! Yet, they were sincere and approachable. All of them spoke excellent English. The food for breakfast was very tasty and filling. It was nice that they changed up the breakfasts every day which is unusual for a breakfast included place. The added bonus was the New Year’s eve dinner that was included in our stay. We would definitely recommend this place for anybody traveling to Costa Rica. I’ve been to Costa Rica over 20 times and can say that this is one of our best stays. It’s away from the beaten plant but close enough to enjoy the other shops and restaurants in the area with a short walk or ride. It was lovely to wake up and go to bed with the toucans right outside our veranda. Also, we enjoyed seeing the scarlet macaws come home around 5 PM. In addition, we saw white faced monkeys. We really liked the fact that the owners and staff encouraged guests not to feed them. They are very ecologically minded. That is why we come to Costa Rica.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: I can’t say enough about the facility, the staff and the the food here at Issimo. The first night we were greeted by the owner and the staff have been simply amazing. The food is fresh and delicious. The grounds are very clean and we have only good things to say about this Boutique hotel. Location is great and close to anything in Manuel Antonio. I would recommend in a heartbeat.
Cons: Nothing we didn’t like. It is a little on the higher end price wise but it’s worth the stay. Only small thing would be the sunset. There is a rolling hill that blocks the total view but you can easily watch it from the beach or a one of the cafes down the street.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Wonderful stay! Professional and friendly staff - a special word of thanks to Geiner for positive customer approach

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Didnt realize there was a tour of the property
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Gaia is located on a hill with incredible views from the bar/ restaurant. Highly recommend watching the sunset from the restaurant. It was amazing! Also, the private reserve is incredible. We did the free tour run by Juan and it was honestly better than any of the paid tours we did in the national parks. The story behind the reserve and the owner Boris, who very kindly greeted us, is also very inspiring. Couldn’t recommend it more. Last but not least, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome. Sirit and Nancy at reception are the best. They made our stay so comfortable by sorting out all our requests/ questions and even had a little package of food ready for us when we left to drive to our next destination. The buggy staff were also so helpful taking us around the property and providing towels when we went to the beach. An added bonus is the free shuttle to Manuel Antonio.
Cons: There was some machinery like a generator running near the room at night so it was a bit noisy. Would be nice to have a kettle in the room as the room had tea bags but no hot water for the tea.
7,5 Good
Pros: The pools are really nice and the shuttle service is very good if you do not have a car but only runs till late afternoon. Rooms are nice but there is a bit of wear and tear. Good hotel but not 5 star.
Cons: Breakfast could be better.

Pros: Stunning views, excellent hotel and impeccable customer service. Triple threat hotel.

Pros: Best view of Manuel Antonio
Cons: Its old and the renovations are ok...but not good...You only pay for the view

Pros: We loved the view. The staff was awesome.
Cons: Nothing to say. Because everything was great

Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The view was absolutely breath taking. There was nothing better than sitting by the infinity pool and sipping on some cocktails from the the pool bar. Amazing!
9,4 Excellent
Pros: Incredible views of the area especially at sunrise and sunset. Helpful and accommodating staff. Included shuttle is very helpful to get to beach and I especially appreciated how our shuttle driver brought us right to the park entrance (went a bit further on the road from the beach drop off).
Cons: Restaurant was a bit overpriced for dinner for food that was not very flavorful, however the included breakfast was excellent. Had many difficulties booking and paying through website, though was able to resolve by fax reservation.
6,8 Good
Pros: The view is incredible, the rooms/beds are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. Falafel Bar across the street had great food too.
Cons: Some of the staff were rude and came off pretentious. This is especially annoying when you're on vacation and just want to let loose. TOO MANY KIDS. They pretty much took up the entire pool, were loud and spent all day there. I didn't have a moment to enjoy it until I went after 10pm. DO NOT GO TO FRED'S next door. We stepped in for a minute to check it out and the guy immediately hollered at us from across the place that we had to spend at least $10 or we had to leave. Um bye. The Wi-Fi also went down for an entire day, for the price you pay to stay here this was unacceptable.
6,8 Good
Pros: Beautiful hotel. Close to activities & great ocean views
Cons: Beds are horrible. Old & no box springs. Seven nights was almost unbearable. Ant's in the room. Overpriced for the supposed best hotel in town.

With a stay at The Falls Resort at Manuel Antonio in Manuel Antonio, you'll be in a national park, just steps from Manuel Antonio National Park and a 2-minute drive from ADR Adventure Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
7,9 Good
Pros: I like the location and accessibility to parking.
Cons: The room has no phone to dial front desk. The lighting in the room was very dimmed, and outdated. In addition, we could hear the guest in the next room, very annoyed by this. When we check out we had a bill pending from the bar, but we never visited bar. I didn’t appreciate that anyone can just give a room number without proof. When we checkout the front desk woman kept asking if we were sure it wasn’t us. They should have a better method to verify the guest and the room number.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very accommodating, I was sick on arrival and they allowed me to check in really early to rest.
Cons: TV didn’t work, but didn’t need it.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The setting, with beautiful gardens and fantastic rooms- made even better by the lovely staff.
Cons: Nothing
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and professional. The gardens were lovely with iguanas, howling monkeys and capuchins. There were even tame agoutis. The cabins were secure and comfortable. The frequent local bus stopped near the hotel entrance which made getting to the Nature Reserve cheap and easy. The breakfast was good and the evening meals excellent.
Cons: I've given them a high score on most things. There is nothing that they can do about the location but the ease of bus access compensates for this.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: -Friendly helpful staff who speak English & Spanish very well -Delicious breakfast included -Large rooms, with fan and AC, safe, hairdryer -short walk to restaurants -right next to the bus stop for the bus that takes you to/from the beach -very quiet during the evening and morning hours -bonus: lots of wildlife on the property! We saw monkeys, agoutis, a sloth, and iguanas!

Pros: Very nice hotel. I traveled with my elder parents. Staff was specially kind with them. I was concerned about the size of the swimming pool, but even in a peak season, it was never crowded.

Pros: Staff were amazing especially luis. Thanks for you loving kindness guys
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were only there for 1 night. The room was large and comfortable. Our room faced the road, but it did not bother us at night
Cons: Breakfast service could have been quicker, we were in a hurry and it took a while for them to take our order.

Pros: loved this hotel. staff were super friendly, food excellent but the highlight was the close up views of monkeys, iguanas and agouti, better than being in the National Park
Cons: only criticism was the lack of sunbeds in the shade around the pool areas
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Offers everything you need to enjoy Manuel Antonio.
6,2 Good
Pros: Staff Location View Comfort
Cons: Run down old style deco low value for money given the price Lots of few defective things in the room needs a serious refit
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Si Como No is the perfect hotel! The views from the rooms are spectacular, and we looked forward to sunrise and sunset on the balcony each day. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a very cozy bed. The breakfast is delicious - que rico! The staff at the hotel are incredibly welcoming and helpful. An issue arose with one of the tours that we had booked through a third party, but they were able to help us resolve it and get the shuttle to the hotel promptly. The hotel grounds and pools are quite nice, but it was difficult to find the time to spend enjoying them due to the convenient beach shuttle that was available until sundown. The hotel is located right on the main road within walking distance (no sidewalks) to various restaurants and shops. We had an ideal stay from start to finish, and I know I will be back in the future.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Nice view, accommodations were good. Food was great. Staff were super friendly.
Cons: No beach access.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The spacious room great view, nice pool and wildlife. Very helpful staff.
Cons: Lay out a bit confusing especially in dark Parking awkward. The cheaper of the 2 restaurants wasn't good value for the mediocre food, and the chairs were very uncomfortable
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel is really nice, the view is excellent. All people that work there are super friendly. The Interieur in the room is a little bit old fashion, but it was in a really good condition. We loved the breakfast, and the swimming pool :) extra plus!
Cons: It’s not about the hotel but in general about the place. There are a lot of Americans. Therefore, a lot of restaurants and other touristic places, are exactly made for their needs. It’s less about the feeling to be in Costa Rica, and more about the feeling to be somewhere at the West Coast.

We did the kayak trip which was great and she cooked us fresh breakfast even tho we returned after it finished. Great breakfast. Rooms are very big and clean. Comfy beds, AC, Good hot showers. Nice pool. Need a car as it’s a few km from the town, setting is very cool tho as it’s quite but near the mangroves.

Pros: Great Staff! Room are big and Clean. Breakfast is good
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Don Bernard and Doña Marlene are fantastic and all accommodating. The rooms are clean and the food is fresh and good. AC works goof but you have to reset it each time you get back in the room.
Cons: You've got to have a car. We depended on taxis, but they hooked us up with Michael who took us everywhere we wanted to go. With that said, we couldn't walk anywhere, there's absolutely nothing near the place other the mangrove right next door. The air conditioning goes out when the door is open and you have to turn it back on when you get back in the room.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet and peaceful place to avoid the crowds of Manuel Antonio. Nice breakfast with lots of fruits. Marlen and Beandon are very kind persons and gave us good recommendation for dinner and taught me spanish. I should have prolonged our stay approx by 2 weeks to be fluent
5,0 Okay
Pros: Staff was super freindly
Cons: Needs improvements on cleanliness, comfort, noise level, facilities such as safe box, AC, clean pool, etc
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The Kayak Lodge is about 10‘ Car Drive from Quepos and 15‘ from Manuel Antonio. Its located right next to a beautiful Mangrove Forest and you can do a fantastic Kayak Tour there. for us it was even better than the National Park Manuel Antonio. Guide Maurillio is very experienced and know a lot about nature. we saw monkeys, birds and crabs!
Cons: the rooms are a bit dark
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The swimming pool and the personal attention from the owners. We could watch a movie on the big screen in the reception area!
Cons: Small sand flies in the area besides the mangrove.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Kayak Lodge is a little off the beaten path, which I like. It is a family-run business, the best kind. When I checked in at 5pm on Tuesday, Marlene, the proprietress, was there to show the room. I asked about where to get a quick bite around Damas before heading for SJO to pick up my sister-in-law, Linda, and she offered to accompany me to a soda a couple miles away on the Coastal Highway. She is such a doll! Her nephew Juan Carlos helps with breakfast, was in San Jose but on his way back out to the lodge. Marlene got him on the phone, and he offered to pick up Linda at the airport and only charge me for the gas. I nearly said yes, but I had promised Linda that I would meet her in the airport when her plane landed. As it turns out, I got lost, and Linda had to wait for an hour before I got there. I really should have taken Carlos up on his offer! Oh, well . . . If you have a working GPS, Kayak Lodge is not hard to find at all. It will be one your most enjoyable experiences in visiting Costa Rica. I love the Ticos!
Cons: Having to leave after only a single night's stay. What, I need to say something negative to bolster my credibility? OK, the humidity was too high! Deal with it. (Like, turn on the room A/C.)
5,4 Okay
Pros: The room was pretty big and the breakfast was nice
Cons: We stayed many hours without internet neither TV because there was a problem with the connection. In Costa Rica the hotels have more or less all the same problems, we slept here two night and one night of them the hotel was completely empty there was no one. Said this you think that when hotels are empty they decrease the price (being low/winter season) and give you bargains but is not like this. Even if all the hotel in the area were free and there is plenty of hotels in more touristic areas like Manuel Antonio that were empty too they ask anyway for the full price so for what we got we felt we spent a lot of money and probably is better for look cheaper accommodations which at the end are not so different from hotels that cost 2 or 3 times more. Generally in Costa Rica (but especially in the case of this hotel) the prices of hotels are way over expensive, they ask you for European / USA prices but they didn't provide not even close the same level of service / comfort.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable rooms, equipped with AC, fans, TV and towels. The pool was awesome and the place to have breakfast is really lovely, felt like home.
Cons: If you don’t have a car it’s quite hard to get by public transport. Besides that, it’s just perfect.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: The Kayak Lodge was a very pleasant surprise. We had to cancel our reservation at a VERY expensive resort in Manuel Antonio for logistical reasons and booked the further away Kayak Lodge for a greatly reduced cost ($150/night vs. $400/night). The room, grounds, facilities, common areas, and pool were immaculate. My daughter said that it was the first place we had stayed during the trip (and we stayed at some very fine places) where she felt comfortable walking barefoot in the room. The owner (Marlene) and her staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. When we needed a late check out, we got it. The Manuel Antonio guide Marlene arranged for us (Millia (sp?)) was the best guide we had in Costa Rica! (Millia suggested & arranged a catamaran trip for the next day that was also a LOT of fun). Although the taxi to and from Quepos was about $10 one way (and a little more for Manuel Antonio) it was readily available and what we spent on taxis was more than made up for by what we saved on the room! Breakfast is included (indeed I think Kayak is deemed to be a B&B) and Marlene and her assistants prepared a delicious spread - complete with homemade guava jam! Also included gallo pinto, watermelon, pineapple, fried plantain, eggs, toast, etc. Mangrove tour was also fun. Highly recommend the Kayak Lodge.
Cons: It was a little far from the "action" but we had dinner in Quepos at the marina both nights and don't feel like we missed much by being a little farther out!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly people, big and clean rooms. Very good breakfast and good wifi

Pros: Nice place and service for the room. Only the shower has a little problem, but the reception quickly solved our problem.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic surrundings, the gartners are the sweetest (especially the eldest, who waves and say hi every time you see him - we are gonna miss him and his good spirit!!), and the garden is so beautiful! Good advice from the reception to the trip to the national park - and you can get a breakfast to go Lots of leguanas and butterflys, and the most luxury room I’ve ever stayed in :)
Cons: Pool and the area around could be cleaner The restaurant closed 2 hours before it should, so we didn’t get to eat the first evening The sandwich in the breakfast to go was very very dry and boring
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and attentive to every detail. The resort offers a wide range of trails at the property. Free shuttle to MA NP.
Cons: Nothing major... Slightly far from Quepos but very convenient to join Highway 34.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazingly clean. Staff are exceptional and obviously well trained. The room we were assigned was spacious, the bed was firm and the selection of pillows satisfied our preferences. The property, the gardens and on site trails are marvellous.
Cons: Likely everyone will comment on the road noise. It is evident but is easily overcome when you consider the amenities La Fortuna offers. Frankly I can’t imagine a place CR that will provide a completely soundproof experience.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The grounds of the resort are absolutely beautiful and we loved walking on the rainforest trails of the property. The pool is clean and just the right temperature. Short drive to get to Manuel Antonio. We had a rental car to get around, but the resort has a shuttle if needed. We would definitely recommend this resort for both couples and families with children.
Cons: The breakfast is decent and you can have as much as you want, but the options are fairly limited.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: nice pool area, good size of the rooms, beautiful gardens, a jungle in the backyard where you can do your own walking tours with a lot of animals, great and fresh breakfast, friendly and good service who helped with organising trips (they sell tickets for the nationalpark)

Pros: Lovely hotel and staff.
Cons: More vegan options on the menu

Cons: Nice hotel in a great location. However, to unlock the door from the inside of the room, one must use a key (which can be a little tricky to use) which could be a fire or health hazard if someone has to exit the room immediately due to a fire or medical need and they either can't find the key or their spouse or roommate is out somewhere with the key. Other than that it's a nice place.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast, dinner etc. were beyond fantastic! Breakfast was a full meal with your own choice of the main dish . There were a lot of fruits and the kitchen staff was super friendly. Please try their Tres-leches - very yummy! The Wifi in the room was great. The room was also very clean. There was ample parking. It was also super close to the Manuel Antonio park - about 300 yards - so one could leave the car behind and walk. It is also possible to book tours from the hotel. We booked the boat tour to the mangrove/Damas island and it was a really good choice. They also have night tours from the hotel - a tad expensive- but one should do it if not raining.
Cons: The only thing was in my room there was no desk or chairs, so we had to bring in a couple from the patio. Also, there was no separate bolt on the door - you had to use the key every time and it was a bit inconvenient. The other thing was there was only coffee - no teabag in the room . We had to get that from the front desk. I understand all of CR are mainly coffee drinkers - but many international travelers do need their tea.
7,5 Good
Pros: Within 5 mins walk of Manuel Antonio National Park. Room was comfortable, bed was nice, bathroom a little dated but clean. Breakfast was nice. Staff were quite friendly, except for when I had laundry done and asked if it could be brought to the room and a girl of reception just said “No”.
Cons: Drinks are listed without the 23% tax so watch out for that. Pool is a lot smaller than it looks on the photos, but it’s well maintained and we had it to ourselves so didn’t mind. Area is really tacky and touristy, didn’t have a good meal whilst we were there and tried several places. Better options are up the hill in Manuel Antonio proper. This was meant to be a bit of a treat hotel, but we left feeling quite nonplussed about it.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful New Year party! Restaurant in the harden was really nice and food was great. The cocktails were also really good, especially during Hyde three hour happy hour
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was absolutely amazing, especially in the restaurant and bar area. Ronnie graciously helped us with several special requests, including arranging “to go” lunches for us to take fishing, and preparing our catch for dinner afterwards. He also helped us store our fish until time to leave. The hotel’s location is also excellent. The pool, restaurant and bar areas are really nice.
Cons: A bit expensive for the age of the rooms. They are beginning to renovate the rooms.

Pros: The location is perfect, right by the park entrance and a 2 minute walk to the beach outside of the park and restaurants/shops. The hotel is really nice, clean and amenities were great, especially the pool with the big slide which was a big hit with the kids. Breakfast was very nice too and had a wide variety of items. The staff were all extremely nice and accommodating.
Cons: The bed was hard and sheets were awful. My daughter slept on a little bed they provided which was more of a cot with no real mattress, so quite uncomfortable. The dinner buffet had little variety although everything was really fresh.
7,5 Good
Pros: Great views, rooms with lots of space.
Cons: Run like an old big hotel, with no focus on the customer nor service details. Expensive for what you get. Breakfast was poor. An average hotel. No expresó machine. No frigobar. No shop for water, candy etc. Hot in common areas, no AC nor ceiling fans (!).
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel, with a superb location directly adjacent to the entrance to the Manuel Antonio national park, and within wlaking distance from the beach. Very good buffet breakfast, excellent roof top bar.
Cons: It would be nice if the pool opened earlier in the morning.
7,0 Good
Pros: Terrible wifi, i had to stand beside the door to have any access to wifi
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a deluxe room with a king bed and jacuzzi bath. It was outstanding. We could see the ocean from our balcony and the rainforest is quite literaly right next to the property. I can't say enough about how good the experience was. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else if I went back. Christian, one of the hotel's concierge staff members, was especially helpful. I went on an excursion and accidentally left my credit card back at the hotel, except I needed it for the excursion. Christian exceeded my expectations by helping with the logistics by finding a workaround to avoid what would have otherwise been a big problem. As a result, I had an amazing experience. Everything else was incredible - from the swim up bar in the pool to the roof deck. I really can't say enough about it.
Cons: Everything about the property and staff consistently exceeded my expectations. I have no complaints.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is right next to the rain forest and is pretty amazing! You can see monkeys from your room. It's walking distance to the beach as well. Staff was very good as well.
Cons: The hotel did not have my reservation when I checked in. But it wasn't an issue they got me checked in.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved staying here!! The hotel was absolutely gorgeous and the staff was so, so friendly. The staff members greeted us by name and we always felt welcome. The location of the hotel is superb and so close to the beach. I would definitely stay here again!
Cons: No beach view from our room, but the proximity to the beach and other key attractions more than made up for it.

Pros: We enjoyed our first class stay from the moment we arrived on this lovely property. The front desk person greeted us warmly and we felt like family right away. They upgraded us without even asking and our room with the beach view was immaculate, adorable and had an amazing view. The breakfasts every morning were truly delicious, I am a vegetarian, a bit on the fussier side and the breakfast was a 10 and the portions fed me for both lunch and dinner. My husband and I would stay there next time as well.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: There were a small group of hosts welcoming us and providing us with information. As everyone else says, the scenery is absolutely fantastic. I live in Costa Rica for 15 years and have been to many hotels in Manuel Antonio. THIS IS THE BEST ONE I HAVE BEEN TO
Cons: no jacuzi? not sure

Pros: The location has a wonderful view. Breakfast is included and there are many places nearby to eat. There are nearby beaches of white sand and lush vegetation. The design of the hotel is beautiful, but the parking is very small.
Cons: I did not like that we were not given extra time for departure, since we were late for half an hour. In other places they have not given a margin.

Pros: We LOVED our stay at Villa Mymosa. Our unit was huge, with a kitchen with all the utensils needed to cook meals & a full-sized fridge/freezer so we could even have ice cream. The pool was the perfect temperature & with only 10 units, it was never crowded. The staff were all friendly & helpful, but our favorite was the owner's dog, Meg. So nice to have a furry head to pet when missing our own! Villa Mymosa is set a little above town, so you feel separated from the hustle of Quepos. And the monkeys! We saw tons of capuchins, partly because the owner directed us to where they would be during breakfast. How can you complain about a place that has a morning monkey travel report? Great stay, highly recommend.
Cons: No complaints!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed four days and everything was top notch. Big kitchen, the rooms are huge and the staff are very nice. Ron and Letty take great care of you. Would definitely stay every time in Manuel Antonio. Close to restaurants and the park.
Cons: Liked everything
6,0 Good
Pros: I liked how friendly the people who worked here were, very helpful. Close to the beach.
Cons: The price was good but there were a few issues like if you flush the toilet, the shower didn't work for about 10 minutes, the toilet wasnt working properly the whole time, we had to hold the flushing part down for at least 10 seconds for it to flush properly. Out of all the electrical outlets maybe 3 plugs worked. There were lots of gaps In the window and door frames for mosquitoes, ants and other flying insects to come in. I was told I would have an oven but didnt. The blender and microwave were clearly supposed to be white but where a yellow color. If your looking for luxury this isn't the place
6,0 Good
Pros: Our room was very spacious with a full kitchen and fridge. Staff were warm and welcoming. Location was central to other hotels and restaurants.
Cons: Cleanliness needs improvement as there were ants on the countertops and dust covered the tops of the closet. Some electrical outlets also didn't work along with the one of the night lights by the bed.
7,1 Good
Pros: Good breakfast, great location and terrace.
Cons: Humidity in the room.

Pros: Breakfast with Chip was excellent conversation and his knowledge was amazing! So were the banana pancakes and the whole breakfast. Grounds were nice, rooms were big and spacious.
Cons: Everything was a tad dated but clean and tidy. Was expecting more of a resort setting, more people and staff. In the end, the quiet low key setting was great. Shower temperature was hard to control.

Pros: Great location to stay with superb breakfast and people that are dedicated to help the wildlife.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: You really feel in middle of nowhere at the BBI - exactly as we expected ! The room was huge, the views nice. It was a pleasure to have long discussions with the owner during our breakfasts.
Cons: maybe a bit remote - but we knew in advance and you have to be ready !
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The perfect combination of an amazing mission (Kids Saving The Rainforest) a caring staff, and a wide variety of rainforest animals. The landscape is spectacular. Adjacent to the KSTR animal rehabilitation center and sanctuary, the Blue Banyan property consists of villas surrounding a community area with a lobby and restaurant. The pool was serene and uncrowded. We saw wild toucans and a wild sloth. The KSTR rescue center has many animals and taking the tour is definitely worthwhile. We had the honor of volunteering for two days, and the staff made sure that the experience was memorable. Our time with Chip, Jennifer, and their staff was the highlight of our Costa Rican adventure. Note: The location is secluded; 15 minutes from the highway. 4WD isn’t needed.
