Pros: The hotel was in a great position on the waterfront. There were many restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk. The station was about a ten minute walk. The room was very large with an Onsen bath on the balcony. The Onsen water was very hot, but you could add cold water. The staff were very helpful and welcoming,
Cons: Nothing everyone was great.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The room we had was excellent (we went for one with a private onsen) and I could not recommend it more. Amazing facilities and lots of free amenities provided by the hotel! The staff were very friendly and nice too!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing place to stay in the middle of Beppu. It is retro but yet stylish; it is nostalgic but yet characteristic. Staff was very welcoming and attentive. The room is large and has lovely decorations. The outdoor hot spring for private use is really a nice touch for maximising my enjoyment at this place. Strongly recommend to opt in for the breakfast - very tasty indeed! I would love to visit them again soon - worth every penny!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful Onsen. Great place!
Cons: Nothing. Perfect.
7,5 Good
Pros: The interior was very cute and staff were very lovely and helpful! They had even hired an English speaking staff for foreign visitors!
Cons: The bathroom and floors were a bit dirty and walls very thin (you could constantly hear staff and guests stomping around the wooden boards outside) the price was kind of steep for the offering. Would have also been nice if dinner was available as an add on
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The private onsen was amazing and the staff are very attentive and nice! We loved the historical element to this traditional Ryokan.
7,0 Good
Pros: Having read the reviews, I knew this was going to be a rather dated ryokan in need of updates, but, it is still a good value for money if you are looking for a traditional Japanese experience. The building is old and creaky and that is part of the charm, however, that shouldn't stop them brightening up the inside onsen a bit, which was so dark and murky that I didn't even use it. Fortunately, the outdoor onsen made up for that. The staff were lovely and even dropped what they were doing to drive me to the train station upon departure.
Cons: A few updates to the soft furnishings could be done to update the place. My en suite bathroom had an unpleasant sour odor if I did not run the exhaust fan and air constantly. Could not SEE the bottom of the inside onsen and I'm not sure if that meant the bottom needed scrubbing, so I did not use it at all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice family run Ryokan, hosts were exceptional. Very welcoming, a lot of details to the that make you feel at home. Good facilities, everything clean. Nice onsen and very beautiful privat rotemburo for free.
Cons: Water in the Rotemburo was a bit hot for my taste, nothing else

Pros: Consistently outstanding food, breakfast and dinner were out of this world. Truly charming service and excellent premises, clean, warm, friendly, efficient- Ryokan perfection with lovely in-house onsens literally a few steps away from the station, and with excellent parking. Absolutely perfect.
Cons: Nothing- it couldn't be better. I just hope that the unique and wonderful features of this Ryokan are there forever.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Everything else
Cons: It was a bit pricey
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was close to Beppu station and the staff were super friendly, especially the older ladies. We had a room with our own private bath but the common baths were also easy to use: just see which of the three is not being used, change the mark to occupied and enjoy! The breakfast was traditional Japanese food and filled nicely.
Cons: I found one black hair from my bath towel, but other than that I don't have any complaints.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful Ryokan with a nice garden and atmosphere. An amazing experience with super service. The room was just perfect. The onsens were free at anytime we wanted to use them. Nice breakfast.
Cons: Everything was great
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Authentic Japanese experience. The room was large and well appointed. The bonus was the private hot spring bath. Allowed us to experience the reason Beppu is so well known in Japan.
3,0 Mediocre
Pros: Convenient location
Cons: Customer service is below standard.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staffs , the traditional Japanese cottage is beautiful , tatami very comfort , they provided free private onsen , that’s amazing .
Cons: The bathroom shower is weak to supply hot water , luckily we use onsen bathroom , that’s better than bathroom in room ,
7,9 Good
Pros: Location and how they did the garden landscapes with combination of surrounding nature.
Cons: Bathroom shower wasn’t working properly (in house one) and no heating system apart from rooms wilhich made rest of the spaces rather cold and chilly. Outside bath, changing area had no heating system also the shower adjustment was very difficult and was never adjustable to the right temperature.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The onsen is excellent with great privacy. The staff service is attentive. The room is clean and comfortable also with good size.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Service, food, ambience, and everything is excellent at Beppu Showaen. There's nothing bad about this ryokan; staff go all out to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as it can be!
Cons: Nothing at all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very warm and friendly staff, being very kind to my 6-year old daughter. The hotel is well situated being at the mountain, if you want to spend some days in calm and relaxing atmosphere, this hotel is definitely much better than others you can find at seaside Beppu (plenty of tourists). Also the first day we waked up and find many monkeys on the top of the roof and they jumped from one tree to another, fantastic scene! The meals are great, authentic Japanese traditional meals!
Cons: Nothing, everything perfect!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location was most inspiring! It was clean, garden immaculate, the air is fresh.
Cons: The toilet is cold.

Pros: Good location for local bars and restaurants. 10 minute easy walk to station through undercover shopping arcade!
Cons: Breakfast was a bit average for my western tatses! A few funky things I wasn’t game to try first thing in the morning!

Pros: The location was a short walk from the main station along a colonnade of shops and restaurants. Location was therefore great. Room was Japan small but reflected in the price. The room was spotless as I got used to expecting in Japan. Staff also very helpful with advise on getting round etc
Cons: Small buffet for a small hotel. Cant expect an extensive range of food out when the hotel is a smaller hotel so breakfast reflected that.

5,0 Okay
Cons: Needs a refurb, looking tired
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location - not far at all from the train station and right around the corner from the Oita Prefectural Art Museum (OPAM). Great service from the Front Office Staff.
Cons: Would have been nice to have an Onsen in the hotel given it is located in one of the best Onsen areas in Japan. The room decor was a little tired.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Position was really good as close to station but just enough removed. Local covered eating/shopping areas useful too.
Cons: Nothing really although there was not something that really stood out either. Good handy functional place to stay.
7,1 Good
Pros: Location,clean and friendly staff
Cons: Charged for room Coffee , unnecessary.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Nice big room. Very good location 10-15 mins from main train station and a covered arcade full of restaurants, bars and shops starts just over the road from the entrance to the hotel and goes all the way into the centre of Oita. Lobby bar closes a little bit early at 11.00pm with last orders for drinks 10.30pm
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Good location
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in this hotel for one night during the Rugby World Cup. From the photos when booking, I was expecting a fairly standard hotel, and wasn't prepared for the luxurious foyer with marble and chandeliers, and the more than standard room. Rooms were small, but we were able to book three rooms next to each other for our family. We didn't spend much time in the hotel but all the staff we dealt with were very helpful and friendly. Great location right in the centre of Oita, near restaurants, shops and only 5 mins walk to the train station.
7,5 Good
Pros: The room was comfortable e.g bed, shower and the internet worked well.
Cons: When I checked in I gave my credit card for payment but for some reason the hotel never charged me so after I left the hotel and went to Tokyo they chased me up for payment for nearly a month. Instead of just charging the credit card they said I had to pay by bank transfer!!! Finally when they did by some form of magic charge my card the rate was around $30 more then what I had booked for on booking.com I would caution anyone thinking of booking to stay here.
7,0 Good
Cons: There was a problem with payment as we shared the cost across two different room types. A staff member cancelled the payment on my card to charge me a lower payment but did not ask to do so. The original debit took some days to be cancelled hence I had limited access to funds.

Cons: Not that quiet, it’s near the train tracks.

Pros: The location is good and easy to access to JR train. There is one Japanese staff who knows how to speak Mandarin and she is quite helpful.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Single room was reasonably large by Japanese standards, bathroom was small but never needed to use the bath / shower as always used the excellent in-house onsen instead. Check-in and check-out were speedy despite the hotel being very busy (Rugby World Cup quarter-final weekend). Free car parking was a bonus. Hotel was also easy to find, located on the main highway that runs along the beachfront, opposite the side street leading to Beppu train station. So very good for bars and restaurants, but room was quiet enough for sleeping.
Cons: The onsen was closed from roughly 09:30 to 13:00 each day, which meant that lazy late-morning spa time was not an option.

Cons: Room was a little small
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Close to the beach, parks and a nice outdoor onsen ! You can open the window, sorta of a rare things in Japan. At least for most multiple floor type of hotel. Would recommend it !

10,0 Excellent
Pros: All the experiences are great
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good location, next to the sea, they have outdoor and indoor onsen. And the water in your room also come from onsen as well.

Pros: For busy travelers who only want to stay one night in Beppu in close proximity to the JR train station, this place is perfect. Close to various public baths and restaurants and easy to find. It would be a bit of a walk though if you prefer staying at the coastal area. But as we had a daytime train to catch, this location was perfect for us. Cons: Set Dinner not good .. don’t expect no beef !!! Can’t imagine no coffee provide at breakfast !! No one can communicate in English at Reception !! Too bad Swimming pool too dirty and too small !! Price Overcharging
8,0 Excellent
Pros: An excellent hotel on the outskirts of Beppu. The staff were very helpful and we made good use of the onsens (separate ones for male and female). Breakfast is Japanese style, so was a surprise on the first morning, but we enjoyed it. We used the yukatas quite a bit around the hotel and even wore them to breakfast.
Cons: It is quite a long way out of town, so you'll need a car or to use taxis if you want to get anywhere. The centre of Beppu does not have a lot going for it, but at least had some rugby fans around when we were there.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The room is clean and new, and the view is awesome. Location is good for driving.
Cons: The public bath is a bit small.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The staff were fantastic and worked very hard to accomodate our family including getting an extra room at short notice.
Cons: Very little English at all. Difficult to order in the restaurant, understand the staff, understand the tours etc. Room was small, beds and pillows hard (like many Japanese properties) and there really was no wherte to sit or work.
7,1 Good
Pros: 1. A very, very spacious hotel room with a wide sea view of Beppu Bay. 2. Very close (10 mins) away from the the Kintetsu Beppu Ropeway, a popular tourist destination in the area.
Cons: 1. Called the receptionist from the room and they said they couldn't speak English. 2. They charge JPY100 for the bottled water in the fridge. Not a lot, but didn't expect that.
7,5 Good
Pros: The service overall was good.
Cons: The hotel a bit too old and the room has smell when I go in. The breakfast and dinner were not expect like that. I expect more grand and nice.

Pros: perfect location as it is in the station complex, so, really good if you travel by train. the view is also amazing.. we can see the whole city and the harbour... also the lighted castle in the evening. The hotel is fairly new, so amenities and the rooms are great. As we had rented a car, we found that you can park in the JR mall complex and go up to the top level, which has a direct lift to the hotel.
Cons: better instruction to get to the parking lot with direct lift access to hotel.
7,9 Good
Pros: Outdoor onsens are awesome!
Cons: Staff could be more welcoming. First impression is important for a traveller first time checking in to a new hotel.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location is convenient and the room is clean and tidy.
Cons: Parking lot is difficult to find and it costs more than 5000 yen for one night instead of $1000 yen as told by the hotel. I wonder if they forgot to give us the parking coupon.
