The ambiance of the bar, restaurant etc .
The room was small bed not that comfortable. I have stayed there before and the room then was excellent.
The location was really good, fronting onto the High Street; a little noisy, but that didn't bother me. The room was really nice, very clean, the staff excellent, and a very nice bar. The breakfast was served early (7am) which I like, and of a very good standard. What really made the experience was the excellent, friendly staff.
Previously we have stayed in the four poster room, which is rather squeaky but with great charm. This time, as the main building was closed due to it being New Year, we were allocated room 6, in the courtyard. Perfectly serviceable, although the floor upstairs was very noisy (it’s a very old building), but lacking any real charm. Plenty of hot water and spare heaters, which was really useful. However, the tv being almost on the ceiling and behind a wall light, in addition to being very small, made it fairly difficult to use; but worse was the oversize, green emergency light in the ceiling which was on all night and made it like sleeping with the light on. Breakfast is pleasant but would be nice to have fresh fruit. This is a lovely hotel/pub/restaurant which we have used three times and would definitely use again, but would not stay in this room
The staff were excellent and very accommodating to our needs. Can't praise anthem enough!
