Staff were incredibly helpful and nice
The room was not very clean. It could have been worse but there was mildew in the shower. A used k-cup in the Kuerig. The toilet and visible dust and debris all along the bottom edges and along the tank lid. Overall it wasn’t bad for the price especially being in Manhattan. I would stay here again but would definitely bring some Lysol wipes.
I will start off by saying the bed was big and for our personal taste, comfortable. Another thing we appreciated, especially as we stayed during very high temperatures at the end of July, was the fact that they had lemon water at reception available for guests. That is the end of my positive comments about this hotel. I was left absolutely disgusted with the rest of our experience. Growing up in New York, but now living overseas, I was excited to show my hubby and 19 month old son the city. They had never been in to NY, so I wanted to give them a true NY experience. I did a lot of research and the Bentley hotel came up on a lot of websites about hotels with the best views in the city. The pictures were nice and the views of the bridge wonderful. Judging by photos, I booked the junior suite. Boy, was I fooled. There is one particular photo of the junior suite that comes up online that is very far from what you really get. While you do get the side view of the Queensborough Bridge, they did a nice photoshop job of the city view (buildings right in the front) because what we got was something else completely different - an old block building that actually made us keep the blinds closed so no one would see us, because we could sure see people! The room itself also left much to be desired. I expected it to be bigger, once again, judging by photos. It was also unclean, unkept, the carpet was stained, and it had a musty smell to it. The blinds needed fixing, and the bathtub was rusty (see photos).
Our first night there, we barely slept. The AC was extremely loud, and so was the outside noise. I swear the hotel "shook" at times. Because of the location, I guess there's not much that could be done because of the FDR and Queensborough Bridge, but they could perhaps soundproof the rooms. We left the hotel early to go sightseeing only to return late in the evening to find our room undone. Not sure if it was a mean joke by another guest or the cleaning staff simply didn´t feel like working that day, but a "do not disturb" sign was mysteriously placed on our door. We were informed by the front desk that no cleaning service was available at that time, and were given towels and sheets so we could make our own bed. Because that's really what you want to do at a hotel. The next morning, I stepped out for a few minutes and left my husband and son in the room. I came back to find my husband horrified. He had went to the bathroom to brush his teeth, only to turn around and find our 19 month old son playing with lose open cables coming from underneath the AC. Luckily, he caught him on time and no harm was done. I went down to reception basically demanding some type of compensation for all our troubles, and was met with rudeness. I even told them I would call inspection, and was pretty much given a "I'd like to see you try" attitude. Coincidentally, I was not able to make any calls from my room, which leads me to believe the hotel blocked my room's line. A few minutes later, a hotel repairman of sorts showed up at our door. He took the box and cables that were hanging claiming it was hotel orders, when I especifically told him not to, saying I was contacting outside inspection. I have this all on video. On checkout, I was told by reception a hotel manager would contact me, it's been 2 weeks, and no word.
Staff polite and courteous, very good location for patients of Sloan Kettering! Clean! Would recommend to family and friends!
Great price for the stay. Very friendly staff and the room was spectacular.
