Excellent costumer service, nice, friendly and helpful. Mike and his team are great. They did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. Genuine hospitality!
Well, the day after our arrival there was some maintenance happening. At night the shower was cold and the temperature that day was 16°C. In the morning we woke up and had the same issue, only freezing water. I know that sometimes it's not easy to monitor everything, but the guests left the kitchen always dirty. 3 times a day the staff cleans it all, but between those it's a mess. I recommend reinforcing a mandatory clean up after the use of the kitchen.
The staff was so friendly and the room was big and clean. Love the bar. Opportunity of free park at the back!
The staff were welcoming and accommodating (excuse the pun!) The food was excellent (free breakfast was simple; the bar menu was pretty good and the food even better), and they had a good selection at the bar. The Prince is also popular with families. It was common to see families with their kids enjoying meals there. They also have a quiz night that was well supported by the locals. In fact there appeared to be a lot of locals supporting the Prince which says something about the place and the people who own it. Plus the locals are really friendly and hospitable. Location, location, location. It's five mins walk from town, and 20mins to the centre of NZ memorial, plus there are other gardens and attractions in walking distance from the Prince Albert. Being outside of the main part of town you get to escape the bustle of the city (if there's such a thing for Nelson). The Fish Stop is near (really nice fish n chips despite the reviews on Google) and a host of other eateries. Fresh Choice is 10mins walk away.
The room was dank and offered little privacy. Because you're sharing the facilities with others, including backpackers, you could hear their comings and goings through the walls as if they're in the room with you. Our shower, in the ensuite had a patch on the shower floor as a fixer upper (probably to a bigger problem) and kept going cold. The shared kitchen facilities were always paru despite the best efforts of someone to keep it clean (I blame it on the number of young backpackers staying there).
I liked everything except the discomfort of being in the upper bunk bed of a predominantly male room. I liked the fact that the B&B was also a pub, the first time I've experienced anything like that in my life. It was also quite close to the center of the city.
The ladder to go up to the upper bunk was not completely secure, and I thus had difficulty going up and down. The lock of the bathroom/toilet didn't work so I ran into an occupied toilet twice during my one night stay there.
Helpful and welcoming staff. Food and drinks at a reasonable price in the bar. Comfortable beds.
