9,4 Excellent (381 reviews)
R1 061+
Overview Reviews
Boasting wonderful views of Burg Katz castle, this non-smoking hotel in St. Goar is located on the River Rhine, directly opposite boat jetties and near scenic bicycle routes. Just a 5-minute walk from the railway station, the Rheinhotel St. Goar provides a convenient base from which to explore the attractions of the UNESCO-listed Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Look forward to brightly furnished rooms, some of which also come with a private balcony. Help yourself to the Rheinhotel St. Goar’s tasty breakfast in the morning. Tour the Rhine with one of the sightseeing boats that stop opposite the hotel, or explore the extensive hiking routes and bicycle trails in the vicinity. Alternatively, stroll through St. Goar’s old quarter, where highlights including the Evangelische Stiftskirche church and German Doll and Teddy Bear Museum await you.

Pros: Gil is awesome! He goes out of his way to ensure you have a great stay. He helped with things to do and places to eat. We had a room with a balcony for our 3 night stay and sat there each night drinking wine with an amazing view of the Rhein river and Katz castle. Beds were comfortable and despite no ac we got nice breezes from the river. My wife rates Gil's coffee the best she has ever had. In fact she wishes she had ask for the brand. The 3 nights here was the start of our two weeks vacation and it was our favorite part of our trip in no small part due to Gil and the Rhein Hotel.
Cons: The only minor complaint is the hotel is on a busy road. We really didn't hear much of the train noise but due to the unusually high temperatures we had our windows open and consequently heard much of the street traffic noise. Gotta say though it didn't bother my wife one bit as she sleeps with ear plugs and I am a light sleeper.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location - our room looked out over the Rhine. Friendly, helpful staff. Safe storage for bicycle. Breakfast room light & so pleasant looking out over Rhine.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Cozy and pretty hotel. Location good and breakfast great.

Pros: The Manager was very helpful and friendly. His attention to detail was impeccable - highly recommended!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Such a great location. Right by the RD Rhine cruises. Lovely room overlooking the Rhine. Fantastic breakfast, and we liked and used the honesty bar for a bottle wine. Thanks Gil. We will return.
Cons: Nothing
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The owner was extremely helpful from the moment we arrived. His recommendations for places to visit and restaurants was spot on. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Cons: Nothing. It fully met our requirements.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good service and breakfast! Help full stuff. Thank you!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Hotel is close to resturants.
Cons: The little town in which the hotel is situated is on the decline, quite a few shops and hotels are closed and stand vacant. Our room was at the back of the hotel and you can hear everything going on in the neighbours apartment and they are very loud and carry on until past midnight. The other room where our children slept, faced the alley next to the hotel and it was very noisy also until well after midnight. The hotel is situated accross the road from the Rhine river so the front rooms have a great river view but the road in front of the hotel is a main road along the Rhine valley and is quite busy and noisy, even at night.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location right on the river and close to all amenities. Parking also very close.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Clean, nice breakfast, perfect view.
Cons: There is no one to help for the luggages and since the rooms are on the first or second floor and no lift, this is a problem that should be considered.

Pros: Food was exceptionally good. We tried most of the menu. Beer was great as was the wine. The staff were lovely and friendly and made us feel very welcome. We would recommend staying here. Great base to visit the beautiful area.
Cons: Nothing. Only slight niggle was the restaurant and bar were closed on the Wednesday evening we stayed. Whilst this was mentioned on a reception note it wasn't clear.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, helpful staff and superb food.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: From A-Z all very excellent. Parking next to the hotel, very friendly and fast check-in, superior dinner and breakfast. Very clean hotel, freshly renovated rooms. A unique price-value proportion. Hopefully we can pass again. If you have not been to the Eisener Ritter in Boppard you definitely missed something.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and I can recommend to anyone who is coeliac as every effort was made to produce a gluten free meal for dinner (very delicious) and wonderful bread for breakfast. There is a lovely walk through farmland to a viewing point overlooking the Rhine - it's not far and well worth it.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant very good. Staff very friendly and multilingual. Quiet location. Comfortable bed. Good internet. Plenty parking.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: A family run establishment with exceptional personalities. Stefan has culinary skills that would rival large city, high Michelin rated restaurants. A real unexpected experience that is not on the beaten path.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great food and restaurant facility for evening meal and breakfast (although note the food standard is high so it is fairly expensive). Food and drink reflected the local region. Nice quiet location and plenty of car parking. Well located for anyone with a car for visiting the central Rhineland, Hunsruck and Eifel areas and in a village away from the main tourist areas.
Cons: Nothing for me; but people with mobility issues might need to know that there are plenty of steps up and down from the car parking.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great food. Excellent welcome. Great view up the river after a buccolic walk.

Pros: The room is clean and has a very good size. The beds are confortable. There is a small fan, that was very useful because the day was uncommonly hot when we got there. The breakfast is tasty, with fresh food, but the replacement is a little bit slow. If you go by car, there are parking lots nearby.

Pros: Friendly and helpful managager, excellent breakfast (as nearly always in German hotels). Room spotlessly clean (again: as nearly always in German hotels).

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Able to keep my touring bike - my only means of transport in a secure garage. Option of sitting out on the roof terrace. Shops and restaurants ate within walking distance.
Cons: On a bike it's up a bit of a hill but manageable.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Very kind host. Clean appartement, good breakfast.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: We loved the upstairs patio that was available for guests and enjoyed eating a picnic dinner out there. The hotel was in a quiet but accessible part of town. Service was outstanding. Breakfast was very delicious. At the end, we were given a jar of delicious jam to take home - yum!
Cons: It was very hot the evening that we were in Boppard and we were on the top floor. We appreciated the hotel providing us a fan, but it was not strong enough to make much of a difference. Perhaps a larger standfan for hot nights?

7,0 Good
Pros: This is an older updated hotel in primelocation by the river Rhein. We had a room with Rhineview and balcony and that was special. The hotel itself is nothing fancy, rooms really small, but with the balconyt it was okay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location! Updated rooms with comfortable beds and plenty of outlets. The restaurant served excellent food.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: What a find! A lovely welcome on checking in and they had managed to give us a high floor room (5th) which was requested. The room exceed my expectations from the website photos and with a balcony gave us fabulous view of the Rhine. Tea and coffee in the room with a small fridge was an extra bonus. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and enough to fill you up for the day.
Cons: Not the hotel's fault but parking is a bit hit and miss in Boppard - just remember to renew the parking ticket when due!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, nice staff, everything clean and nice.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good and staff are very friendly.
Cons: We thought the room comes with a balcony facing the river but it didn’t.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, good breakfast, easy parking opposite hotel
Cons: Nothing
7,5 Good
Pros: The proximity to the Rhine and restaurants.
Cons: It was noisy with the trains and the decor was modern and not conducive to a relaxed environment .
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great. We had a room with a river view. We had the small room but it wasn't too small. Another time I think I would opt for a room with a balcony as well. The weather wasn't too hot which was good as the ferry might be a little noisy for some with the window open but it wouldn't have bothered me. Couldn't hear our neighbors which was good. Breakfast was fine. Lots of choice. Staff were always cheerful, friendly and helpful and worked really hard. Parking might be difficult in high season. We were there in June and always found somewhere to park along the river front.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly, and the rooms are spasious and clean. Beautiful view over the river from our balcony❤ They served a very good breakfast. Perfect location, we loved the hotel and the town, er will be back!
Cons: The only thing was parking, but we found one in the end outside the hotel.

Pros: Lovely boutique style hotel with lovely balconies overlooking the Rhine.

Pros: Everything was fine overall: -clean as far as I cared to inspect. -decent shower -when wifi worked it worked well. -breakfast was good (not great)
Cons: Wifi a bit too unreliable. Small room for a double room. Balcony is great, but needs some maintenance. Noisy for outside noise with windows open, which after a hot day is needed, but acceptable. For the price I expected a more up to date hotel.

6,8 Good
Pros: Nice food at a friendly hotel with the owner/chef and staff eager to please.
Cons: It was a bit tired and in need of a revamp, small room with a very small bathroom. However, we did have a lovely view of the Rhine. Also, the hotel isn’t in Boppard it’s a couple of miles outside.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The landlord was very helpful and so the landlady and the staff. You really can see they love what they do.
Cons: We don't mind the little spider in the room but some people do. So if they could keep an eye on spiderwebs around lamps and corners .
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The couple who own the hotel were extremely helpful and informative. They even gave us ‘’tasters’’ to help us choose a local wine which we then ordered! Very convivial.

Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Lovely room with balcony overlooking the Rhine. Really enjoyed it. Just sitting on the balcony in the cool of the evening was wonderful. A super place. Staff were happy to reserve parking in hotel's own garage and this was excellent - this was booked in advance.
Cons: What we had for dinner was excellent. However the menu was a little pedestrian and maybe geared to coach parties. In fairness, we were able to chose something which we enjoyed. Great wine list. Staff couldn't have been better.
6,3 Good
Pros: Location in the city Good service from some of the staff Rooms were nice Possible to get massage (had to be ordered from someone external that came to the hotel)

Pros: Break feast excellent
Cons: Parking a little difficult
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Cons: There is no Air Condition in the hotel. During this very hot weather when temperature exceeded 30 degrees, there is only a desk fan in the room which makes sleeping very uncomfortable. We had to leave the windows open and were waking up by the noise from street.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel was situated right on the Rhine. The view of the river was amazing
Cons: WiFi was not reliable.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: We upgraded to the apartment which was quite expensive. Breakfast was superb and the dining room was stylish. The sitting area was spacious with comfortable chairs.
Cons: No air conditioning. Plates and cutlery should have been provided in the apartment.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a beautiful property in a heritage structure but with all the modern amenities. The new wing blends beautifully with the old. The interiors are so elegant in all the common areas. The location is wonderful. It's fantastic to be sitting in the balcony and watching the Rhine river flow. The Le Jardin garden restaurant is also right on the banks with the colourful flowers. Food was superb and breakfast too. The highlight of our trip was that I celebrated my birthday there and was gifted a bottle of wine right in the morning. It was so nice of them to do this. I was really touched by the gesture.
Cons: Everything perfect. Only suggestion is to add a few more vegetarian items in the restaurant fine dining menu.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A grand old hotel, beautifully refurbished in a perfect location on the Rhine River offering extras such as a wine tasting and a fine dining room as well as the regional restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times especially at breakfast.

Pros: So we stayed here as a couple and also took a separate smaller room for my mother. Our mini-apartment was really fantastic, separate from the main area, we had lovely facilities, even a living room! We had a very good nights sleep. The smaller room for my mother was perfect for her needs and clean and neat. We also enjoyed being able to look at the fantastic view up to the nearby Schloss (Castle). Although we didn't venture on a walk, there was a very nice looking one that coincided with the property. The breakfast we had included with our room was also great, lots of delectable choices :)
Cons: My Mother was unfortunate in that the other guests in her part of the GasteHaus had a bit of a party together out on the porch and didn't think of other guests being affected by their slamming doors etc, but thankfully that ended eventually. And that isn't the fault of the GasteHaus itself!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place, nice room good clean bathroom.excellent breakfast. The owners could not be nicer
Cons: WiFi is to be honest very poor, slow and intermittent.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Hosts. Facilities.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome and friendly hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was furnished to a high standard, spacious and very clean. We had a comfortable stay that exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was plenty, tasty and always came with a little chat about the plans for the day with little suggestions from the hosts. The location is quiet with stunning views and just a short walk from St Goar. We will definitely come back!
Cons: Nothing.

7,0 Good
Pros: Very good breakfast. Lovely sights on the riversde.
Cons: Our balcony was above the kitchen and looked into another buliding. A small fridge is the room should be a necessesity. Coffee/tea making facilities in the room are not availible.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location! Parking was easy and cheap. Breakfast buffet was great. We had a room with a balcony Overlooking the Rhine which was well worth the extra $.
Cons: FYI: Even though the view of the ships navigating the bend in the river is great in its own right, there are no castles visible from this spot if that is what you’re after.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast with local products (cheeses, jam, cold cuts), good coffee. The rooms with a balcony have an incredible view on the Rhine. Good wine produced by the hotel. Owners are very helpful.
Cons: nothing
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast and the location were wonderful! Because it's right on the Rhine, there is a noise issue between the trains and the boats but as long as that's ok with you, you can't beat it. Also, you get a guest card now that lets you use those trains in a large part of the area for free! Awesome!
Cons: We weren't a fan of the pillows! And the cash-only policy is a bit odd, so be prepared! Frankly, I don't see why credit card fees can't be worked into the room price.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent array of breakfast foods and beautiful view of the Rhine as we ate. Location was close from the train station for us to walk with our luggage. We always breathe a sigh of relief when there is a lift. Genuinely German.

7,5 Good
Pros: The locations was great, I loved the patio outside our room and the food was very good.
Cons: There was no air conditioning and I did not find a gym. One waitress in the dining room was not friendly until we wanted to pay for the bill and she realized we were not just dining there, but staying at the hotel. Suddenly, her attitude changed demonstrably.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful castle, fantastic views, very friendly staff
Cons: Our room got very hot in the afternoon and didn’t cool down at nighttime. A fan would have been nice... other than that everything was perfect!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location!!
Cons: Nothing
5,5 Okay
Pros: Great location looking over the Rhine.
Cons: Staff were extremely rude. In particular the woman who greeted us at the Restaurant. We asked her if there was any availability for a table for two. She yelled at us ‘no!no! Not tonight we are fully booked’. Never before have I been spoken to like I was a child. After I explained we were staying there she aggressively said she had a table at 8pm. That hardly means you are fully booked. while I accept we could have booked earlier I fail to understand why check in staff didn’t not inform us of the restaurant reservation situation. There are no other places to eat at within a practical walking distance so I am not sure where these ‘thinkers’ thought we were going to eat. After being screamed at we decided we would dine elsewhere. A professional establishment would typically have handle this situation by saying politely ‘ I am sorry but we are full booked right now but if you would like to sit at the bar or come back at 8 we can provide a table for you’. In addition to the rudeness the pillows were in short supply and too soft. The rooms were not air conditioned. This isn’t acceptable for a room in that price range.
7,0 Good
Pros: The food was great. Dinner and the breakfast was in great quality.
Cons: The quality of the restaurant is very good. However I would not suggest visiting here in the high season. The kitchen was extremely busy and could get plates in reasonable time. We needed to wait an hour to get our desert after the main dishes.
7,0 Good
Pros: The best things about this hotel were the location, the amazing views, the food was excellent and the staff were very professional and so friendly.
Cons: I understand not having air conditioning in an old castle, but in 40 degree heat without even ceiling fans or electric plug in fans it was unbearable. We were not able to finish our anniversary meal because I felt so faint from heat exhaustion, instead we took the champagne bucket to the room and used the iced water with cloths to try to cool down. Unfortunately our room was full of spiders and as I have a fear of spiders this made for an extra uncomfortable night in the castle. I waited years for the opportunity to stay in this castle, but sadly was disappointed and left early the next day.

Pros: The Africa connection. Respect for hunting. Hunting and golfing are my sports. Next time I will try to combine these in Jakobsberg. And the golf course, although extremely dry, is challenging and full of surprises. I'll be back soon.
Cons: leaving after too short a stay.

Cons: Could have promoted local attractions a little better, needs a fitness centre for this size of hotel

Pros: The location and the facilities.

7,5 Good
Pros: Wonderful, helpful staff. Breakfast was good, location a bit noisy.
Cons: No lift, spiders in room from the eves, no bread at breakfast.
7,5 Good
Pros: Breakfast buffet. Fabulous. Big private car park. Keys to use the door at night and early morning. Small, but neat bathroom. Everything in it. Bottle of water in the room, and pod coffee machine. A dyson room cooler! Crikey! Thats expensive!
Cons: Single occupancy room; a very large bed in small room, left it feeling cramped. I would not like to take it if my husband had been with me. River view? Poetic licence on words. Yes, you do see the river, after the immediate and full viee of a construction of buildings, then over the camp site and to the side. I think its fair "River view" gives a client an expectation of a front facing room. The little mat was stained and appears shoddy. Spoilt the newness of the furniture. The large bottles of hand and hair & body wash werent just empty, but were completely dry. That's just poor house keeping. The loo seat needs tightening, as its very loose.
