9,2 Excellent
Pros: People is very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is supper good. Hot spring also good.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Good Mountain View Delicious breakfast
7,1 Good
Pros: Great view, bar had a terras.
Cons: Location
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Onsen was good. Teppanyki restaurant excellent. Free shuttle to and from train station.
7,5 Good
Pros: Great Hot Spring with great view to the volcano. Great Food.
Cons: Should have more English speaking staff for no Japanese customers. Hotel is very big so a long walk to room should be expected. Room quality is moderate, one can get a better room for the same price. The hot spring view is really depends on the weather therefore good view of the volcano is not guarantee. The hotel is about 15 mins from city center even with car.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great view from the hotel and the room, very spacious, staff are very helpful and attentive, most speak good English. There are shuttle bus to the city and station, very convenient. A lot of parking spaces and free. Good facilities and beautifully furnished. There are food store, family mart and a lot of dining options. One of the best hotel we stayed.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great onsen and breakfast. Rooms are a little dated but nicely appointed. The view from the room was good. shuttle bus service was convenient. The hotel Onsen and lobby have a wonderful view of the whole city and Sakura-jima.
Cons: The property could stand a freshening up. I could not find the shuttle bus at the train station when I first arrived so I had to take a taxi to the property. Once I rode the shuttle bus and marked the stops, it was fine. I went to the onsen twice per day and they charged me 300JPY for each "extra" use.
3,1 Mediocre
Pros: The restaurants that we tried, Tempura Keiten and Sushitei Sakura, as well as Bakery Shiroyama were all excellent. The staff in all were great and the food was outstanding. The tempura was some of the best we had in Japan and the sushi was actually the best meal we had while in Japan. We liked the sushi place so much we went twice. The bakery has some really delicious breads, particularly the maple flavoured loaves, that we actually ended up getting every day for breakfast so that we could avoid going to the repulsive breakfast buffet. The shuttle bus makes it reasonable to stay here because the hotel is located on top of a hill that would make it difficult to get to without the shuttle bus. The shuttle bus makes several stops around Kagoshima allowing you to get to the main tourist and shopping areas pretty easily. Though it does take about 30 minutes to get from the hotel to the last stop by the ferry terminal.
Cons: The hotel is sorely in need of a major refurbishment and cleaning. Our room had a very uncomfortable bed that was lumpy and kept me awake more than asleep. The bathroom was actually dirty with hard water deposits and long term grunginess in the shower. The rug was similarly unpleasantly in need of a cleaning, as well. I was actually surprised by how unclean and run down the room was after reading some of the other reviews. The breakfast buffet was horrible, with Western food consisting of nothing but cold egg dishes (and not purposely cold). Sadly, even the Japanese items on the buffet were not well prepared. It all looked like leftovers from the night before. We ended up trying it twice and gave up in disgust and just started getting items from the bakery for breakfast every day.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room, service and location. Even though it is not located in the city, the shuttle was very efficient. Staff was great- they spoke English and were very helpful. Breakfast is AMAZING- and I am super into food.
Cons: The bus driver for the shuttle broke my luggage. Management responded appropriately.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen is very big and well-equipped.
Cons: If not driving, rather inconvenient location.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing extensive breakfast. Amazing extensive breakfast. So good I had to say it twice. 80% Japanese food, 20% western food. Rooms are huge by Japanese standards. Lovely onsen with a sheltered “outdoor” pool facing Sakurajima. Shuttle bus to city centre.
Cons: The only small thing is the distance from the city centre, but I guess that’s part of the attraction of the hotel too. There is a regular shuttle bus though.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: The self laundry service
Cons: Food items at breakfast were exactly the same every morning. They could consider to have alternative items on a different day.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: direct access via airport limousine, about 5min walk to chuo station and taxi stand. a good choice for ferry transit (about 10mins by taxi)
Cons: room a bit small, hard to find space for luggages
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location is excellent for access to JR train, airport bus ANZ street car.
Cons: The space of room was really small, and was competely occupied by our luggages.
6,7 Good
Pros: The location and food are good. But the service is a little disappointing. We’ve asked whether can see the firework from the room, the check-in guy answered yes, twice. BUT, in fact, there is nothing can see, and that’s also why we missed the fire work event. very frustrating and hard to accept.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely comfortable bed, great amenities, right beside the JR station and in the same building as the stop for the direct bus to the airport.
Cons: Some of the concierge staff did not speak English at all which could be frustrating
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location, staff, breakfast, decoration were all top class. Well thought out bathroom.
Cons: Much as the room was clean and well decorated in contemporary style, it still kept a Japanese hotel room characteristic, it was cramped. For someone with large suitcase, there was no room for it in the room. Well thought out room with all the necessary amenities, but nowhere to fully open my suitcase.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: clean room, well equipped bathroom, good breakfast with both Japanese and western, staff were nice and helpful, a convenient location where u could all shopping malls, bus and train stations, local markets within 5-10 mins. walking distance, efficient check-in and out.
Cons: The room size was very limited, smaller than the size of a standard room.
7,1 Good
Cons: The fact that the staff were not accomadating with the check in time. We have stayed here several times in the past few years and it's the same every time. After 2 flights totalling 16 hours, a train ride of 3 hours we were told that we could not check in until the regular time of 3pm. So we had to wait a further 4 hours to get our rooms. Thank you for nothing Solaria!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Good location I like the mountain view room
Cons: Room is small
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great location right at Kagoshima-Chuo (Shinkansen) station. City View bus near hotel. Walking distance from city center. Nice delicious breakfast buffet with lots of choice. Small room but large bathroom with both shower and bath. Comfortable beds. Some rooms have great view of Sakurajima volcano and sunrise. (Other rooms have view of station-square and sunset.)
9,7 Excellent
Pros: Directly in front of the shinkansen station. The room is super modern and appointed beautifully. The bathroom is huge. Everything about the building and room is clean, modern, sophisticated.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location
7,9 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Hotel room- too small
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Superb location, Just right above the train station. We were given a room on the high floor in the north wing, so the window looks out to the ferries wheel, which is really pretty at night. Room was clean, comfortable and well equipped.
Cons: Nothing! :)
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Best location for getting trains. Took us 2 minutes from us leaving our room to being in the station. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff
Cons: Breakfast needs more options. We stayed 4 nights and it didn’t change throughout. The hotel will change bed sheets unless you put a label on your bed to ask them not to. We forgot to do this a couple of times but didn’t need the sheets changing. Reversing this policy so you can request for sheets to be changed would be better for the environment.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is inside the station across from where you exit from the Shinkansen tracks. That was wonderful when our train arrived late at night. Check-in and check-out was done on a touch screen monitor that you could change to any language which was nice. The hotel was clean and the rooms were exactly as the pictures presented them. There is also a shuttle to the Kagoshima Airport. Exit the station at the bus terminal, across the street and to the right of the Lawson’s is the shuttle bus. There is an underground walkway that helps get you across.
Cons: Nothing. It was perfect for our stay.

Pros: The location is very very convenient for my further journey

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location is just a short tram ride from train station and from boat to visit Sakurajima volcano. Both are also within easy walking distance. The area has lots of restaurants all around so really convenient. We had an very nice tonkatsu meal in a place called ichi-ni-san. Other bus routes are also convenient (eg we got the bus to Chiran from posited the hotel. Hotel room standard but had a nicer bathroom than most of the hotels in this price range.
Cons: Maybe we were unlucky that there was a tour group there on our first night but the breakfast room was too small to cope. They offer the alternative of breakfast at a cafe on the ground floor just by the hotel entrance. Since you can get breakfast sets here cheaper than ¥1000 I advise not taking the breakfast option and just get it outside the hotel as you wish.
6,7 Good
Pros: The staff were very helpful. All my emailed were answered clearly and promptly.
Cons: The bed layout was extremely poorly designed. It is very difficult for one guest to get off the bed! It is a bed for two persons but they can get off the bed from only one side.

7,9 Good
Pros: The Location is right in front of the shopping street. Very convenient for eat and shop. The hotel offer special rate car park nearby. The staff are nice and helpful.
Cons: The Smoking room and floor were really a nightmare. We have to stay coz there is no choice left to have. Cannot blame the hotel actually. The price is considered high comparing to all the hotels we have in this trip, this is double price for us during the golden week.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Right at the shopping Street and have parking place
Cons: Nothing
7,5 Good
Pros: Location is nice and room was clean.
Cons: It was very noisy outside late at night and made it hard to sleep. Also the bathroom had a weird smell to it.

Kagoshima Sun Royal Hotel - Kagoshima - Building

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient hotel with excellent SPA (Onsen) and with free parking included (the cheapest place I've stayed in, one month in Japan). Very good location for the seaview of the volcano.
Cons: A bit old US style hotel, a refresh of the rooms will make it perfect.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: All staff are so friendly and professional
6,7 Good
Pros: The location was good with a great view of the volcano. The water pressure was great and the Toto toilets are fantastic. The housekeeping services are excellent with nice amenities but no hand lotion. Easy walk to the bay, convenience store, grocery store, 100 yen store. Geoffrey was fantastic and most helpful. Wine and beer are included in the evening dinner buffet.
Cons: Only 1 - 2 people on staff were able to communicate in English. The first day I arrived late in the evening and was told that I would not be able to have the two dinners for which I had paid and I would not be able to have them during any of the next 8 days I was at the hotel. The meals were just forfeited. There is NO swimming pool as it appears to be in the pictures. There is no fitness center or equipment. You MUST pay a 500 yen fee per person every day for the mineral spa whether or not you use it. I was not told about that until day 5. You MUST be nude to use the mineral spa - there are separate spas for the men and women. The food choices were very challenging for me with no ability to customize anything such as having an egg white omeltte. Very confusing when they talk about single and double rooms, which seems to be connected to the size of the room rather than the bed but still not sure. In my first room there were many stains on the rug.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Onsen, price
Cons: Location a bit far but with shuttle bus
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel has excellent views of Sakurajima on one side. There are good bus connections to the major tourist sites, even though Google won't list them in a search.
Cons: Very few staff spoke more than a couple of words of English. All bus info, for example, was in Japanese only. I like hard beds, but these were exceptionally hard. The hotel is a little down at the heal, but clean.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The view from the Onsen is magnificent, i recommend to go as soon as it open it the morning (6am) to enjoy the sunset over Sakurajima volcano ! My room was small but comfortable, unfortunately i didn't have mountain view from my room, but they installed a lounge accessible on the 12th floor to enjoy the wonderful view as much as you want ! Finally the staff was amazing with me, they made me feel very welcomed and they are always ready to help you at anytime. :) Oh and thank you Geoffroy, even if some of the staff can speak very good english, it was nice to have someone who was speaking french to take care of me ! :D
Cons: The only down point of this hotel is his location because it's a bit far away from the city center, but they provide a free bus shuttle to the main area, you just need to check the schedule before and you're all good ! :)
4,2 Okay
Pros: The staff was very attentive and they had an on site English speaking staff. For send-off two employees rolled out a banner thanking us for being a customer. While far from Kagoshima JR station, a hotel bus from Kagoshima station is available.
Cons: Being an older hotel, the orange color carpeting and neutral patterned wall paper has seen it's better days. Breakfast in the (typically used as a wedding hall) banquet room (with no windows) felt extremely claustrophobic. The hotel uses a picture of two women looking at Mt Sakurajima from the ofuro grabbed my attention as a place to stay. With little remodeling/updating the entire hotel felt like upgrades were few. The ofuro has mold and musty smell. The picture of Mt. Sakurajima from ofuro grabbed my attention as the reason to stay at this hotel. Be mindful of of older hotel that don't mention any recent renovations -- because an old hotel feels just like that --old. If they dropped their price -- then I wouldn't complain about the price. But for the value, the "run down" feel didn't seem like a fair price. The entrance/check-in feels grand. The rest of the hotel (probably 30 years old) showed any lack of recent upgrades. The ofuro picture with the two ladies viewing Mt Sakurajima is false advertising. Lowering the price would be fair -- since it's an older hotel. Not mentioning it's an older hotel with a need for renovation is misleading and unfair. This ofuro picture made the hotel seem like a Ryokan type hotel that continues to maintain upkeep, while reality is -- Kagoshima Sun Royal Hotel clearly is in the business of false advertising and good at hiding years of wear/tear.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent view of sakurajima Good breakfast Excellent staffs Jeffery's warm welcome is most impressed Nearby shopping mall
Cons: the top floor onsen does not have enough ventilation (feel a bit stuff)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Near by seaside
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The onsen with hot spring water at the top floor with the view to the volcano is great thing! Open in the very morning and in the afternoon until midnight! Great! Very helpful and nice staff especially the guy from France who wellcomed us. The shuttle bus from the bus station to the hotel. Next to the hotel there is a airport bus stop.
Cons: The price for the breakfast was very high so we didn't decide to get it there. Its quite far from the city center but there is a free shuttle bus and the volcano view. I just hate sleeping under the sheet.

7,9 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Bed
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Two nights is not enough for me to say something
Cons: Everything was good
8,8 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It’s an old-fashioned hotel with a very grand atrium. There is a public bath (not free) that I didn’t try. Laundry machines are also available. The room was spacious according to japanese standards, clean and comfy. The price was very decent for this type of room and hotel. The location in tenmonkan is very good, with good access to the shopping district, Harbour park and ferry to Sakurajima in walking distance. It’s near a tram station where you can go to Kagoshima-Chuo Station (also not far by walk).
Cons: There was a little problem at the check in. I was on time but the room wasn’t ready, and I had to wait for 30 minutes.
7,5 Good
Pros: Close to main shopping area within 15 min walking.
Cons: Nearby restaurants a bit noisy at nightime.
7,9 Good
Pros: Somewhat old-fashioned hotel, but in central location with good access to the shopping district. Harbour park and ferry to Sakurajima in walking distance, good recommendations for restaurants from the hotel staff, small but suitable public bath.
Cons: Overall everything okay.
6,3 Good
Pros: There were many kind of plate at breakfast. They were good taste and satisfied me .
Cons: Location is good. But Kagoshima is my native place, I know better place than here. Maybe I won't stay here again.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location very close to the city centre. There was a lovely French guy who obviously spoke fluent Japanese as well working here, he was just super polite & interesting to watch someone who obviously has completely embraced Japan as his home or working life. This is a great town on the whole great shopping & spectacular harbour side with views of a live volcano which was pumping out a little smoke. We could see the Volcano from our room. The hotel has a very grand atrium & the room was big enough, clean & tidy there is a public bath on level two or four. Night time outside, down the road was an eye opener lots of very young people revelling at restaurants & bars but the hotel is just enough away to be considered quiet.
4,6 Okay
Pros: Free Ganban-yoku
Cons: There was no public bath for women, only free ganban-yoku was opened but the shower was just the same as the one in our ordinary room. couldn't feel as special as it can be.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast
7,9 Good
Pros: I had to cut my trip short in really short notice which I mentioned in passing when checking-in. I wasn't expecting a refund or discount or anything like that since I thought it was too late and unreasonable to request. However, they went out their way to make sure I got my money back for the days I wasn't using. It was highly appreciated! The room was nice but nothing spectacular but it was well kept and comfortable overall. They even included wifi which is always welcome! The location was in a decent area and relatively close to one of the tram stops which made it easy to get it. Also, it isn't a massive walk from Kagoshima-Chuo Station if you want to see some of the city. There is also plenty of restaurants nearby but they seemed to be opened mainly in the evening.
Cons: The walls in the rooms could've been better since I could hear the room next door sometimes when they were quite loud. It wasn't extremely distracting but is more a negative towards that particular guest more than the hotel itself. I wish they provided a larger fridge in the room with some food/drink provided (for additional cost) Other than that it was a pleasant short stay!
